Had beautiful memories of the Savoy hotel stayed there a few times. You forgot to mention the most important fact; it has the only right lane drive in the whole United Kingdom what I thought was unique.
I worked at the Savoy from 1976 til 1979 most at the time at the Savoy Grill, it was a fantastic hotel at the time and the service delivery was out of this world. The Savoy Hotel London gave me the edge that opened many door world wide! Thanks Savoy Hotel ad Friends
I know a guy who makes retrofitted appliances a my God there is a reason why the stuff is awesome not only did it last long if you took care of it but the Styles we're honestly phenomenal not that I don't appreciate some of the more Sleek modern looks and he's able to combine that but there's something about the older fashion that has so much charm to it and because he's been able to work on these models using future technology he made them a lot more efficient because unfortunately some of these things had problems but it almost seems more rare in comparison to what we have to deal with a lot more simplistic depending on the appliance the same guy has a cousin who works on antique model cars and planes so in many ways it's a family business
Visited the Savoy last month: sumptuous, a bubble isolated from the real world. One curious observation, though: Adjacent to the elegant entrance to the exquisite WCs is a grand portrait of our late Queen. Why there? Is it a subtle joke, linking one throne with another, perhaps?
You'd think they would get top hats that didn't look like they were pulled out of an old trunk - what a bad first impression - that doorman's top hat was in horrible condition.
“Film stars, celebrity chefs, fraudsters, murderers, sex criminals” were the last three really necessary? I feel like they’re kinda implied in the first two items on the list. Heck, they probably could’ve just left it at “celebrities” and we would’ve filled in the blanks.
my late mother would say that in the most expensive hotels the chefs and cooks do NOT wear gloves on their hands and they are touching food-even decades before the COVID- isn't that unsanitary?
Washing hands is necessary, but not enough (test w/ blk light). Gloves are great if you frequently change them (eg. don't open the refer door, etc. without changing). Tongs, tweezers, etc. are good.
Why did Mariah Carey leave this hotel after arriving? Is this a racist hotel? I am Black my husband and I, and we want to come to London next Christmas, and I want to be treated well.
Best you stay in the US with that pathetic attention seeking attitude. Your colour had nothing to do with any of this. But you sure brought your dumb racist me me me BS into it!. Stay in the US as your attitude isn't welcome in the UK.
This is supposed to be a look into the history of the Savoy and there is no mention of Cesar Ritz ? Along with chef Auguste Escofier, these two friends made the Savoy world renowned and yet this fool ( Dr Mathew Sweet ) does not mention Ritz ? He also doesn't mention that both men were fired from the Savoy for embezzlement? In typical British snobbery and bigotry, Dr Sweet complains that the Savoy's new owners, mainly the major shareholder being a Saudi prince, are the reason that the Savoy is too far removed from what it once was and is now a lesser hotel. This is a piss poor history lesson.
He did mention Auguste Escofier and that he was fired for embezzlement but that it didn't come out unitl later that that was the reason, and you are right...how can he not metion Ritz.
I was a chef there in my early 20s for a couple of years, what an experience, the work was hard and the days were long... but, i loved it.
Greatest part of this feature, was them interviewing their legend bartender... what a national treasure he is! 😃
He's right. The martini was a gin cocktail. Hence 007 requesting a custom vodka martini - shaken, not stirred.
This is a terrific video! Superbly informative. Thanks so much!!

I don't understand the complaints about Mr. Wilde. In those days 2/6 was a hell of a tip for a bellboy, even at the Savoy.
6:08 putting your thumb onto the surface of the plate is bad form and not seen as sanitary. (retired corporate waiter)
Maunster! Good catch! Agree.
"Sorry Mr Hudson is this not what you ordered?" I saw what you meant there!

WOW "Sorry Mr. Hudson is it not what you ordered"
BRAVO !
Long before the Savoy, there were other great hotels in Switzerland and France.
Very true, but the Savoy was the first to have electric lights in all rooms and electric lifts.

The Savoy has been made by Cesar Ritz & Auguste Escofier.
Felix Niederhauser both of whom were sacked from the Savoy for embezzlement
@@ScottPothan :This is known, however, it does not change the fact that both of them made the Savoy.
I do prefer the Ritz when I stay in London.
I've never been to London
why is suite 41 no longer open ?

At 6:00 they both did spit the food
Top notch !!!!
Hitler's favourite filmmaker, Leni Riefenstahl, kept a catamite until the day she croaked in 2003. I believe his name was Horst.

LMAO!!
Savoy...a great hotel....
*I LOVE IT*
I worked at the Savoy for many years in the 1980s it had Style - Now only good for Football players
I thought this video was about the house of Savoy...
What I wouldn't give to stay there once.only dreaming
The Savoy is number two to Claridges for prestige. The Savoy was for the glitterati, Claridges is for royalty.
Savoy for me
But Savoy has the best Beds 😎
I MEAN CAN I BUY A DRINK FOR YOU SIR??
That's one very bad suit.
My second favourite London hotel after The Ritz.
We're going there
nice

Not if they washed their hands.
Not to mention they taste test soups and sauces

Mass production does not Float My Boat. I'll stick with Home Cooking.
Impressive 🌈
Maybe Claridges where Morgan Freeman stays!
The Savoy has been ruined by the company that took it over about a decade ago, shut it for 18 months and re-opened a mere shadow of its former self...
“The wine flowed like wine”. Really? Where are the copy editors?
Heretagey?
Scruffy as always...l
They havr a German chef because Brits cannot cook must be genetic
Then explain why Brits are some of the top world chef's. Or doesn't that fit into your bigoted generalisation of Brits.

@@STICKITINYOUREAR Oh do search about them. Savoy Beds initially made by James Edwards Limited. They’re now called Savoir Beds.
