I had an opportunity to stay at this landmark hotel when I visited England from Canada many years ago. I have always loved Art Deco so my partner at the time surprised me with booking us into Claridges. The history, architecture, afternoon tea with champagne lol. It was truly an amazing experience to have. It was my first time to have a lift (elevator) operator, and a beautifully plush fabric bench to sit on while you were whisked up 3 floors. Lol. And the doormen with top hats calling you “mam” everytime you went near the door......Over the top for me to do on any regular basis, but a truly amazing experience to have at least once in a lifetime.
Please boycott this hotel: it is owned by the dictatorial family from Qatar. Apart from all the classics (no freedom of speech, no free press, tortures…), LGBT people are persecuted and women are second class citizens. If all that is not enough, migrant workers from poor asian countries (Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, India…) work there in near-slavery conditions , specially during the construction of the infrastructures of the recent football cup. Give your money to someone else. Javi Caballero (Spain)

The restaurant looked SO MUCH better when it used to look like "this", with style and elegance with those pillars and those classic chandeliers that actually looked good.
Totally agree with you. I have been staying at Claridge's since I first went with my parents in the sixties. The restaurant was a treasure, but Gordon Ramsay ruined it.
i love to live in a hotel the rooms always clean bed is well prepared bathrooms are very clean. always u go out and return back you find your room as you found it when you checked in. good food always nice restaurants. hotel life is amazing.
Is it the same one I saw on PBS in the United States where they gave the keys to the hotel to this lady and her husband that was been going there for over 40 years
Oh . . I still do Seasons in New Orleans and am a Traveling Chef but based on my property now in California. I personally think that tight So So Rich Classic French Cuisine is excellent for training but very dated for these days . . 😃 🛀 😉 💂 👍
This video is a bit out of date. The art deco dining room has been completely restored and looks nothing like as shown here and Ramsay is no longer there.
I am not of the Royal class & not been to UK or anywhere near there so I’m happy the young man has a job & is working & choose not to “troll” & be rude on the internet! I had NO idea this place even existed! It would NOW be on my list to at least visit if not stay if I make it there one day!!
Some do, but Claridge's used to be known as the annex of Buckingham Palace. I've been going to Claridge's since the 1960s and have seen members of just about every European Royal Family there. The Queen Mother was a regular as was King Constantine, who had his London office in the next street. Once saw him, the Kings of Norway and Sweden and the Queen of Denmark lunching together. Crown Prince Alexander of Yugoslavia was born there and still stays in the same suite. There used to be a special royal rate of £25 a night.
I agree! People who say things like that don’t know anything about the royals. You only have to see any number of docos here on RUclips about what the monarch does day in day out to know how hard it can be.
I don't like the fact that he called the smokers "addicts". That's picking on them because they like to smoke. What about the guests that like to drink? Why aren't they being called "alcoholic"? What about the guests who like to eat at the buffet? Are they "bulimic"?
Oh, stop looking for something to be offended by. Honestly, with all the info given you hone in on something to be outraged by. People like you are ruining the world.
Good Grief!!!! Does Mr. Sweet believe that anyone in the RUclips universe really wants to see him standing in front of a urinal? ...And pretending to tinkle? (...He was pretending, wasn't he??) Even Donald Trump, the quintessence of self-absorbed vulgarity, would (probably) not stoop so low!

When I first visited London years ago, I stayed here and loved it...for years after I received a lovely Christmas card...pure class...

Thank you! I appreciate these insights about the great houses of London. I plan to dine there sometime this year.
Oh! May I come with you?!!
Fantastic hotel with great history… was here in 2011 for my cousin’s wedding. An unforgettable experience….. 🇳🇬

Agreed. From pillars, chandeliers and red velvet drapes to a conference room at a lampshade factory.
Somebody has to say no to some decorators.
Absolutly gorgeous,i love learning about the history of the hotel, makes it much better
Great video, thank you!
Ah, a nice old fashioned hotel , so rare these days~
I have been for afternoon tea. Historic!
BRAVO !
Great video!! 🧬🗝🖋🔭🍾🍿🥗🍯🥥🌶🥬💐🥧🍫☕🍍🍓🎂
Thank you for the Great video
Very nice....Very nice...
Very nice.
At 1:30 "a person may throw off his periwink in gay abandon", I have no idea what on earth that means but it sounds good and I will take two please!
I think he said ‘Periwig’, which is/was the type of wig still worn by solicitors in courts
I have been to Claridge's, a nice hotel, but the Ritz is in a class of its own
oh yes, but I wouldn't say no to either.
Claridges's is somewhat dowdy like much of the English aristocracy. The Ritz is more elegant.
vie stayed at 5*+ in Dubai and they still don't have the class of this one
ISlam has no class.
Costs as much for a week as 3 days at Disney's new Star-Wars themed hotel. Oddly, willing to bet it's a much nicer experience.
I love your opening, snarky, narrative. The best.
i love to live in a hotel the rooms always clean bed is well prepared bathrooms are very clean. always u go out and return back you find your room as you found it when you checked in. good food always nice restaurants. hotel life is amazing.
Love this hotel because of the Art Deco.
@Harold Amiss I also stay at the Ritz in Paris and London, also lovely hotels.
Of course I have to mention our favorite hotel in New York, The Carlyle.
Is it the same one I saw on PBS in the United States where they gave the keys to the hotel to this lady and her husband that was been going there for over 40 years
It’s been a year since you asked but the answer is ……drum roll …….yes 🎉😊
all fancy restaurants have a problem with the small portions the food is very little. i dont feel that i had enough of food to make me feel full.
Guessing this was from around 98? Saw that year on one of the flags, thought it could be later though.
The description says 2005.
What is the music at 00:37?
Minuets For Piano No. 2 In G Major, WoO. 10
(bit late, no?)
Do they have a RUclips channel
Really really grand guests. Wow 😯
The best place to stay
Sweet is so funny😁

Anyone notice the black and white checkered floors? Hmmm…
Imagine having to dust that lobby light fixture

cameronpaul 😏
Is it much better?
Memories of 2005
bvsg s Yes! It had been ruined.
Yeah, it's a hell of a lot better and very expensive - lol
I could have done without the urinal scene. At least we did not need the reinactment.
Yes. Totally high school-ish
I miss the Causerie. It was a lovely less formal restaurant where the bar is now.
😊 love his name / Matthew sweet 😅

$776 a night, currently.
😍😍😍
Beautiful classic.@12.03 Did the presenter just piss all over the floor😂😂😂😂😂. What an end to a career😅
His suit doesn’t fit him 👎🤪.
His is a bit too sarcastic, and no one pronounces the word "valet" correctly. The "t" is not silent!
will your suit fit you one day ?
Medusa on the wall and the freemasons checker floor says it all.
Would have been superb if not for your persistent insults and snide remarks about the royal family.
So very cheap and common of you...
...
I thought the Royals stay in the Goring?

Nice
No apostrophe in Claridges. Tut tut.
0:20 It's there, plain to see.
There is an apostrophe. It was originally owned by Mr and Mrs Claridge. Hence Claridge's. Education has taken a nose dive.
get a suit that fits you.......
Who cares about his suit!🤣
From a "royal adultery nest" to the most aristocrat hotel in the world👌👌👌 What a journey 🤭🤗
Aristrocratic...
His bad opening remark about the Royal Family gave the whole video a bad taste. It was unnecessary. Relevance?
Dont be so stiff :-)
I agree! People who say things like that don’t know anything about the royals. You only have to see any number of docos here on RUclips about what the monarch does day in day out to know how hard it can be.
Think he was being ‘sarcastic.’ Not serious.
It is telling you the story of George IV and how the hotel was established.
Don't be ridiculous. @@Akenaten1
..."throw off his periwig with gay abandon..." arf, arf!!!
Good joke: "How long are you staying?" "Until they ring my bank."
Did he just pee on the floor of that bathroom during filming??!!!
BT Trade Completely disgusting.
It's 'VALET' with the 'T'. i.e. wallet
No it isn't
In the best English circles
It's Valey pronounced it is a french derived word t no sounded
Yes. No t sound . French and English are intermixed languages.
Why would they put this host on camera with such a hideous and misfitting suit? His pants aren't even properly hemmed and his jacket is far too long.
Who cares!!!!🤣
Scruffy Sweet as always....
I loved the urinal bit xD
but its very expensive too. thats is the problem.

I think I saw in this hotel Mr. Stephen Hawking and his wife about two years ago.
I loved it. They are irrelevant. Oh, sorry, is this Harry or William?
A Tel-e-fone-ist? HA
I do not like that 21st century's gallery art. It looks like a bunch of worms.
Sonia Hamilton Looks dusty too
Chiluli's work looks better when he uses coloured glass

They don’t allow dogs😫
Why would they
They do.
Much of this, although interesting, is rather disrespectful. Also, the word "valet" does NOT have a silent t.
Your American aren’t you.
@@debbiesunlight7047 Certainly not. English born and bred.
the time of the pointless royals is over. Hello 21st century
OK, we get it, you don’t like royals and aristos. Tone down the snark.

Why is that oik presenter wearing his big brother's suit?
