Reed Block Spacer to de-stuff the crankcase volume / Banshee style balance-tube / carbon fibre reeds / (power valve - but expensive!) pipes designed for midrange torque. All will help but perhaps less FUN!
What a great commentator taking the video. Great job dad! The bike sounds great, reminds me of my high school days smelling that bel rey oil on and off the dirt on 2 strokes.
That bike is one of the best examples of the old rd'S I have seen since the 70s. Fantastic video, those pipes are the only upgrade needed on that fine machine....BRAVO LAKRSBAL...
Nice Searched YT for RD400 cause I was sitting here remembering the one I owned in the Philippines when I was stationed at Subic Bay Hospital from 77-79 It was a good bike always dependable quick and maneuvered easily through congested traffic. I put air horns on it sounded like Victory Liner buses at that time it help when going through small Provence towns, used to travel Baguio every week end on it loved riding the Zig Zag brought her back in late 79 too bad it was stolen some months later
I feel lucky ....I've owned a 250 a 350 and a 400 all were really good bikes but none of em looked as good as your one ...... but they all went like stink when they were properly tuned ...... thankyou your bike brings back fond memories
I got into so much trouble with my RD400 - which can be a real hooligan of a bike; easy wheelies. My local little Yamaha dealer said that guys like me kept his parts dept. busy with all the Rd400's running past the limits of traction and rider ability (inability?). Mine was blue and has the long Bassani expansion chambers. Love the sound
loved that bike. I had one back in Australia. It was blue, same design. Very good machine it was described as the prince of commuters. Very tractable in fourth you could go from 25 to 100. Stop on a dime give a lot of superbikes a real hard time make them work to win the race. Enjoy.
Like tbe polished cylinder head .Mine was blue with alloy wheels .Saddle tail piece.Great power band .ahh i can still smell the 2 strike fumes ....Nice bike you have sir.
Hey I know this guy. He is one cool dude that I met about 22 years ago. At that time he had this turbo-Capri, that was a real sleeper. His first one got wrecked so he bought an older model that was lighter weight and looked like just a grocery getter. So he put his engine and suspension in it. One night we went and raced some rice-burners and really made them look silly. He also had a nice Honda 400-four w/ a header. At the time I had a Yamaha RD200 Electric.
Beautiful bike. I test rode one of these in the mid 70's . I was considering buying one of these to more enjoy the twisty turny country roads in the area where I lived about 30 miles west of Boston. On the test ride from the Yamaha dealer that was in Hudson Mass. at the time, basically, it scared me stiff, I couldn't keep the front wheel on the ground in any of first three gears, even in any kind of normal riding. I thought I would make a mistake, run it off a road and get intimately acquainted with a tree someplace. I stayed with my Kawasaki F7 trail bike.
My only problem with the RD400 was fouled plugs, but synthetic 2-cycle oil reduced the problem. With the up swept exhaust/expansion chambers it was a freaking beast. 52 inch wheelbase made turning easy.
Mine was a 77 with Daytona heads and a Daytona seat , rear sets, Bassanis (shortened). It had a Shoei fairing , 30 mill Mikunis , drilled discs, and port (2 mill)and polish . very fast
Yaya yaya yaya yaiii yaaaaaaaa ... So beautifully tuned and that sound is like a classical instrument 😍😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩🤩😎😎😎 Daddy Son.. preserve your toys at all costs 💗
I had a 1976 RD400 also in green, but those solid disc brakes caused me to wreck the bike on a rain wet road sharp turn. The bike would not slow down into it, went end over end. This led companies to holes being drilled into discs that shed out water to prevent hydroplaning of brake pads when you need them most!
I had this Bike in the 70s. The Sound, the smell .....great times.
I had the kaw 350 . 2stroke street bikes were everywhere in those days . I miss them so much i have 2stroke bicycles .

I had the orange rd350 back in the 70s .
I had a hard time keeping the front wheel on the ground. These things had a crazy powerful powerband
Reed Block Spacer to de-stuff the crankcase volume / Banshee style balance-tube / carbon fibre reeds / (power valve - but expensive!) pipes designed for midrange torque.
All will help but perhaps less FUN!

The mark of a well set-up bike.
Show, muito linda, está moto.
That bike is one of the best examples of the old rd'S I have seen since the 70s. Fantastic video, those pipes are the only upgrade needed on that fine machine....BRAVO LAKRSBAL...
