Thanks for the vid . I still have the Daytona I bought new in '79 ! It sat for a long time in the garage before I got it resurrected a few years ago . It's still just under 6000 miles with original pipes .Always a fun ride .
Ive owned and ridden Many Two Stroke bikes. It's refreshing to see someone give the bike true Respect. That bike truly Scares You! I ca! hear it in your throttle hand. If you haven't already you should ride the H-1 and H-2 from Kawasaki... Enjoy...
nice bike. i took a ride on one in 1975. powerband was so crazy. the front end just floated up. my cb450 felt so big and slow compared to this bike. enjoy.
We rode with 'em back in the day, but they had to stay at the back of the pack if in a group. Like having a city bus in front of you . But that looks like fun.
I'm looking for an 400 engine to swap into a 01 - 06 Yammy R6 frame. It's gonna be a killer strong build with the HVVC heads (I think thats what they are called) Hottest porting I can run on the street, JL pipes, CDI ignition, 34 mm mikuni squarebores etc.. You can pick up R6s with blown engines for less than $1500 here all day. But I love my classic 2T's , but I know the standard frame has all the rigidity of a noodle, the suspension ain't great (gonna rebuild and Ohlins kit all the shocks on the R6, so why not address those shortcomings in one fell swoop and have a bike which sounds and smells wicked and goes around corners like a modern bike?
@@alanunruh7310 Make that four, after I stumbled across a rough 400E project a few months back. It will take some work but is matching numbers and means I can now do one in yellow as well as white.
That's one thing I have a hard to adjusting to on my ke 100 the way you gotta slip the clutch slightly on this old bikes they just do pull like newer ones I my first bike was built klx 125 for track use. I Rhode it on the trails and back a rodes the kid before I had it raced it.
I had a few of these back in the day. I reckon it sounds a bit lean on the needle. Also it sounds like it has a lot of piston slap on the overrun. It might need new pistons or maybe a rebore.
Joe Nevarez hey, there are plenty of paved roads in IOWA. We know how to ride on paved and unpaved roads and can run 4 strokes, 2 strokes and rotary’s to full potential. We can race anything ON anything and love to throw on turbo’s, superchargers and nitrous just for fun. We GOT THE BEST OF ALL WORLDS!!
Nice bike. Still has the oem pipes on it. I've been looking for one of those for 20 years. Found several, not a single one had the original pipes, and they are impossible to find. It is VERY easy to stall a 2 stroke taking off in second gear. 2 strokes make most of their power near redline, and have very little down low. Even if first you need to rev them a little to get going. That one sounds like it is not tuned quite right. I had a chance to buy a brand new Daytona Special back in 1980, instead I bought a Suzuki GS450L. I'm still kicking myself over that one
I used to own one of these and this video brings back so many memories. Sounds exactly like mine ! Looks like your front forks are a little tweeked. Thanks for sharing !!
Tony Reynolds..............I had one too back in 82 when I was 18. I put expansion chambers, jetted the carbs, K & N filters, dropped handle bars, rear sets and some Pirelli Phantoms. I took the indicators off and it was race ready. That bike flew! A nice cool day with the tires nice and warmed up and you GOLD baby. :) Cheers bud

Dragan M.............Hey bud, yes I ended up getting a 350lc as well. You had the 500! If I'm not mistaken those things are going for a fortune if you can find one. They were track ready out of the box pretty much. Unfortunately I'm not riding but it's not out of the question. Insurance is getting ridiculous though, they want a fortune.
I used to have an RD400 back in my college days, 1978, with 2 Bassani expansion chambers, and I used to ride it past the redline in every one of the 6 gears, how much fun and adrenaline.... I thought that I could relive some of those moments watching your video, Big Bummer, you my friend drive slower than my great grandmother. not fun. naaaah.
I see you trying to start this. Really exerting energy! (Seriously, put your foot on the kick starter, and let gravity take over.) Easiest engine to kick over. Well, the RZ 350 may be close. 140 main jets you only use the main jets when you have the throttle fully open. Try running it up to 7k rpm and understand the "power band" that characterises 2-strokes. I owned one of these, your handlebar mount is bent and you'll never "Get" this bike riding along straight roads. Find some mountains. Otherwise good vid, cool bike.
Bike looks nice nice but is there something tweaked or twisted in the front end? It looks as if the handlebars have a bit of a rightward bias, suggesting the forks aren't quite right. Or is that just an optical illusion?

Im not suprised for one Jeff looks like a pretty big boy.
