Text book display of a skilled rider - applying just the right amount of power/throttle through every bend and getting it spot-on every time. I really enjoyed this video because you know how to handle a motorcycle - I wish I could do it half as good! My brother had an RD400 and I rode pillion a few times and it could easily spit you off the back when the power came in - intoxicating 2 stroke power!
I owned and rode lots of RD400's and can tell this one is running very nicely. Even good standard ones weren't overly keen to pull much into the red no matter what. Thanks for posting and sharing!
Wow, thanks 862057... This video truly takes me back to what it looked and sounded like to where it reminds me of what it felt like when riding my '77, but like many commentors, your bike revs higher and pulls harder than my filtered and chambered stocker, and I never modded beyond that. I was just curious what mods your RD has? Anyone who monitors temp on each head surely has wisdom that anyone who's commented could learn from and appreciate.. ?? I would have appreciated having someone like you to ride with... Thanks for sharing that video. It really took me back. Ride on!.
This bike is really fast! I had a tuned 350 ypvs for many years and I have to this day not knowing there was a 400 in the seventies. My 350 was the most fun bike to drive even if i have tried much faster bikes, the 350 is pure entertainment. I regret I sold it, today the are rare and expensive.
Ha ha .nice one .Brings back memories of my 77 400 dx.great powerband .Your smarter than me .I had my house key on the ignition keyring and done in the markings .Soft ignition switch too on these .The bastards used to turn it with a screwdriver to nick your bike..Well done .Riding it like it's meant to be ridden.
I wish I could get mine to run this well. I have 28 flat slides with Y-boot K&N and boost bottle. I have gone from 170 to 260 in main and it just falls flat on it's face when wide open. Hard to do plug chops near where I live. I just noticed you have temp gauges for each bank. That is slick and where did you get those?
@@chrostopheragius4516 It's the amount of grinding work done to modify the ports. This was done by a professional machinist/tuner. The combustion chamber of heads have been reshaped. Chambers are old Pipeline pipes.
@@862057 i wish my bike runs as good. i would love to build mine some where similar i have added reeds, cages, cross overs and cone filter but wount run as strong as this. You have the best rd vidoes on you tube.
They are TTO temperature gauges (e bay). Lots of mods, porting and head work, large reeds and 34mm carbs, cdi ignition with timing curve, expansion chambers.
Had an orange 76 and it would pull the front wheel off the ground so easily over 60 mph really had to be careful, other than eating spark plugs and it would only run like this with yamalube oil, and ngk spark plugs, it was so much fun, hard to put into words.
So what you running DOT 5 ? Must be fresh,There is no color at all. Oh , I didn't notice before , you'r kill switch seems to be off . LOL Anyway congrats, the bike seems to runs well ,sounds good, have you had it long? Have you named it ?
It's clear DOT4 fluid. I have a HPI cdi ignition that shuts off by grounding out so I rewired the kill switch so now a closed switch grounds out to shut off. I bought my bike in 1976 brand new, $1230

How an RD400 should be ridden, brings back memories of my '76 model. Good Vid thanks
That is running suprbly, look at it take off when it hits the power band. Well done indeed!

Brilliant video, that’s exactly how the RD’s should be ridden
Had lots bikes, but I can honestly say my RD with out a doubt
Was the most fun to ride 😊
"whoa, easy girl." said that many times to my rd too
That bike has some power. I have few rd400 and rd350, mostly stock with pipe and air filters, none will pull like this!
Stop telling lies lad

Great times 46 years ago now I had 6 rds
Old but still gold..restpect brother!!
Sounds and runs great ,

Love the setup. Does anyone sell those trail tech temp gauge mounting plates, or did you just fabricate them yourself?

Damn dude went from 5-80mph in like 3.5 seconds 💨💨

The motor has has lots of porting work done on it. TTO Trail Tech temperature gauges that fit under the spark plug where the crush washer is.
Please pardon me. I should have looked at your other uploads before posting my comment (below)... lol. Stage II makes that big a difference? Wow!
Donde tenés puestos los sensores de temperatura?
Gotta been Ported" revs thru the redline ,,
I had a stock 76 RD 400. It never pulled that hard. Wow!

Bro, amazing! What is that two displays near ignition key?
Cylinder head temperature gauges
That‘s awesome! Where did you get them? I head one of the piston crowns in my R5 melting. Rebuilding currently, but I‘ like to prevent in future :)
We're did you get the EGT gauge from?
Your jetting sounds spot on. Love the sound!
I think they're trail tech TTO meters. I believe these are take temp from the spark plug.
What modification so you have ?? Looks like a really healthy engine
Stage II, 34mm carbs, big reeds, HPI dynamic ignition
@@862057 what do you mean exactly with stage 2. ?
What chambers are you running and are you using stock heads. It really pulls i love it

Is it mph or kmph?
What's the proper temperature that you don't want to go over, I have a 1976 rd400 and it's constantly putting a hole in the top of the piston!
320 and it's at max temp. 340 and it's too hot. You may have the timing advanced too much if it makes a hole in the piston.
Running to lean , that's the cause
Hola, ese velocímetro es km/h (kilometros por hora) o mph (millas por hora) ??. Saludos desde Ecuador...
What sprockets you running, > i cant hit the red line,
16/38 sprockets. This motor has been modified, a stock motor won't rev up past red line.
What kind of modifications? Also, where did you get the temp sensors for the cylinders?! I like that idea!

Search TTO, temp sensor on ebay, plug sensor, mind your spark plug size, [ ie -14mm etc]
Crazy to run mine like that!!!! 😁✌
😍😍😍
