My favorite fact about Deftones is White Pony took so much longer to record than anticipated because the band spent way too much time playing the new PlayStation in the Studios Foyer and they sometimes had to be physically wrenched off the thing to get any takes done

Oldhead Deftones fan here just to say it doesn't really matter how people get into them, who cares, the gate is wide open and everyone is welcome. I think the main appeal is actually due to how timeless some of their stuff feels, and also due to the fact that the sound Deftones pioneered has made a huge comeback in recent years which has led young people to go back to check out the source. When I was a kid we did the same thing with bands like Misfits and Joy Division because we wanted to know what bands influence the big hits of our time (like Deftones but also early 2000s bands The Strokes, White Stripes, etc.)

For me, I was introduced to them very recently. What struck me about them that I hadn’t heard before is the atmosphere of their music. They have this dirty, grimy, moody, murky atmosphere combined with very sensual and almost “high” emotions and lyrics and soundscapes. I instantly feel in love with the dreamy, vibey and high feel combined with the angry, murky, muddy tone. It made me think of gutter life. Living in poverty, addicted to drugs and alcohol and miserable with the lifestyle, but holding on to relationships or sensuality that gave some pleasure to life. Deftones taught me to pay attention to atmosphere which in turn made me look back at TOOL and it suddenly clicked how good tool was cause they had a similar atmosphere. Tool’s atmosphere however went in a more primal, philosophical, contemplative direction. These two bands I tie together and love so much now.

I just don't get it, I love the band and want to see them succeed as much as possible, so seeing a lot of younger people getting into Deftones is awesome in my opinion. -Ufomammut
-Mixed genres (like, for example, Self vs Self from Pendulum feat. In Flames. Wonder if there are more of those. Of course, Igorrr. Hey you should cover Igorrr too. You did mention them in a breakcore video if I remember correctly. But I'd like to see more on that frankenstein jumble of genres). Maybe you know/can find more stuff like that. I really love that stuff. In my own production I like to collide various genres to see what comes out too ^^.
-If you into this side of music: Acid, Hardtrance, Tekno, Psytrance (Ikikik, you're mainly metal. But, genres are overrated. Only two really count: Good music, bad music. 🤷‍♂
-Oh, baroque classical, during summer and winter, vivaldi's four seasons have some pretty shredder moments with those violinists 🤣

So basically deftones is for women and and some men because the music expresses more sappy feelings rather than the beautiful melody of angry men screaming

I’ve been listening to deftones since I was a toddler because of my dad so it’s almost insane to see nu metal and especially deftones skyrocket to the front of egirl and mainstream culture. If someone told me 5 years ago that deftones would be relevant I wouldn’t have believed them.

I mean im happy for them and gives me a degree of validation - yet i still dont get it, where was the hype when i had to carefully ween my friends onto them with very mixed success throughout 99.9% of my 20's.

We can probably rule out *Gore* being responsible for their popularity with art hoes. I've been a fan since ATF dropped and I figured they would always stay around the cult level. They were even on one of the Matrix soundtracks and still barely got recognition.

There’s a lot of these opinion pieces about the Deftones from people who weren’t alive at the time. It’s interesting. Always coming at it with a new world, social media perspective. Ego mindset, like ‘style of clothing, emotions, the way someone looks, a sea of personal opinions having self validation.
They are widely popular because the music is just fundamentally good. Good music stands the test of time. Some people have good taste; others do not.

I've been a closet fan for 3 years now and I'm slowly phasing into wanting some merch, I actually started shopping for a saturday night wrist shirt today before finding this video in my feed.
