That stamped nut keeps the adapter from coming apart when you change the filter . The oil filter holds the adapter together .

If you go to a good hardware store (Our local Ace is the best) they sell what is called a half nut and I would bet you can order a half nut that size in Stainless to replace the cheap stamped nut. Also for me, I used a ratchet to tighten that big nut pretty good, it's much stronger than it looks. I am FEED UP with a leaking oil filter adapter and took no changes on nothing on my install of this 1024 adapter. I have a brand new Wix 51515 in my hand right now and as soon as the silicone sets up completely in about an hour or so, I will refill this new 327 with $60.00 MORE dollars of brake in oil again. This will be the 3ed time I blew out that stupid Mr. Gasket outer thin O ring! That Mr. Gasket adapter does not work at all with a 60 PSI oil pump. It caused me to put $120.00 worth of brake in oil ON THE GROUND ! Boy am I going to write a letter to Mr. Gasket customer service ! oh yeah.

Thanks so much. My newly rebuilt 327 is leaking like a sieve with the current nameless adapter. I have the Transdapt sitting on a shelf that I bought 20 years ago.

I have run my 283 on the run stand. Oil pressure is 55 psi and I don’t have any leaks. I think it’s a good adapter.

Just installed a second Transdapt on another 283. No leaks. Both are new engines with excellent oil pressure. I think it’s a good adapter.

I recommend a good quality silicone between the oil ring and the adapter and then another thin bead on the outside of the oil ring where it contacts the block. Mine ended up leaking where the oil ring goes over the adapter, in between the oil ring and adapter.

That nut they give you is junk.
I took a 3/4" fine thread jam-nut and machined it down to the thickness of the stamped nut and it works great. This way you have about 4 whole threads vs 1 thread on the stamped nut.

Before you toss out that flimsy stamped nut, make sure there's enough clearance for the nut you're going to make out of the filter thread. I guess there is, just a thought that came up when you mentioned that. There may be a reason they used that...

I also thought of that. New steel nut from another filter fits great. I did save the stamped nut just in case.

Question what kind of oil pump are you running high volume or standard volume

    • @Lugnutz65

Standard oil pump. I’ve put this on 2 separate 283 engines and no leaks in either one.

Ok will a wix oil filter work fine for high volume oil pump with no bypass valve
