    Love your videos!! and I think you are on the cutting edge of helping people recover from insomnia. What you said was so simple and made me smile…hyper sleep IS an improvement and step towards restful sleep when previously being awake more hours then sleeping 👏🏼. I have invested thousands in a sleep program that created more fear in me, around diet, lifestyle and sleep hygiene. It’s unfortunate that some well meaning sleep coaches, programs, CBTi model intensify insomnia for some people. For me, it created more control while decreasing quality of life. I was barely eating any food I used to enjoy and wanted to keep a pretty ridged schedule and feared when I made plans outside of that which would cause hyperarousal. Anyway, thank you for all the free content and education. I find it really helpful. 🙏🏼

    Hey Daniel, for me hyper sleep has always been the problem. Its really the only form of insomnia ive had, and it just wears me out so much for the next day. Sometimes I feel better if i don't sleep at all than having hypersleep. I'm not afraid of not sleeping, I'm more afraid of this anxiety full half sleep that feels like a anxious knot while sleeping. This makes it kind of difficult to face... since I'm not aware that I'm so anxious. Thanks!

      Hi, and you know this comes up often. Hey Daniel, this video perfectly describes what I’ve been going through the past three months. I didn’t have “normal” insomnia initially but I became so obsessive over this bad sleep that it’s perpetuated through constant hyperarousal and anxiety surrounding my sleep. So far I haven’t made any progress unfortunately (no deep sleep in 3 months). Is there anyone in your school that has dealt with this specific issue or any success stories? I think, i have some hyper sleep, if someone is in same room/or i sleep somewhere else. From my experience this sort of hyper aurosal sleep (which i had very many years) is not very healthy and comparable with normal, deep sleep. For example: 5 nights of hyperaurosal sleep mixed with weakfulness causes some changes in my personality. i am highly depressed and i can't explain it, but i just can say: i am not normal in this state of lack of sleep. it feels like getting insane. You are the first person who speaks about this sort of sleep!! in this state of sleep it is really so: you are directly awake, if you hear something.

    Hi Daniel, I have a question about what you think about the connection between hyperarousal, hypersleep, and Restless Leg Syndrome. I've been working your programs(Immunity and Bedtyme) for 4 months now and really thought the end was finally in sight with normal sleep starting to become more normal. Than a couple of weeks ago I have started to experience Restless leg syndrome which is now keeping me hyperaroused and hypersleeping again. It's almost like my brain in a last ditch effort to keep me awake has thrown the restless leg syndrome at me. You touched on Restless Leg in a previous video and it's commonality to other Insomnia causing issues. Now I am flummoxed again with a whole new seeming challenge to steer through. I know NATTO is the answer but trying to keep calm and non-attached during the night is problem when your legs made it VERY hard to even stay still and peaceful at all. I'm sure there must be others that have faced this interesting type twist in getting past Insomnia. Thanks

    Most of my insomnia recently (so far, only this week and last weekend) has been caused by anxiety. A mix of anxiety and Restless Leg Syndrome (which I managed to half-sort with some cream)

    I definitely have experienced this quite a bit.. Sometimes it is very hard for me to control my anxiety when I can’t sleep. Do you have any advice for someone for when I’m anxious or just can’t sleep, I never feel like doing anything else. I know it’s important to do something I actually enjoy like read a book, podcast, tv, etc, but it’s hard for me to do this because i feel eventually I’ll fall asleep for a little and don’t want to screw that chance up? I’ve been dealing with this for so so long, this sleep anxiety for about 3 years. I’ve read set it and forget it, and do have a sleep coach since last September who has a similar approach to you. I just feel like I’ll never fully get over this.
    I can never really sleep in even if I don’t sleep much, my body almost doesn’t allow me, which makes me miss out on a lot.
    I would love some more guidance and courage from you as it would help me out so so much.
    Thank you for helping us all.

    • @thesleepcoachschool8192
      @thesleepcoachschool8192  11 месяцев назад +2

      Hi Brittany,
      I think what really helps is to see that none of us humans can control our emotions, we cannot manage our anxiety, for example. It is rather when we try to control anxiety that we struggle with it.
      And the same applies to sleep. None of us can control it but when we try, we become anxious.
      Also, it is really helpful to know that peaceful sleep and peace of mind has no requirements. We can think that is important that we do something we enjoy, but it isn’t at all. When we teach that we can do something we enjoy, it is just a little limitation to try less. But it is not important at all. Nothing is important, because what we want requires nothing.

    What happens when hyperarousal/hyper sleep happens automatically every single night? No matter what kind of day I had or if I feel anxious or not? And what if this concept is so terrifying that it perpetuates the hyper arousal? Befriending wakefulness does not work for me because I don’t genuinely feel safe not being able to sleep. I’m so exhausted and therefore cannot “accept” not being able to get real sleep. I’m stuck in this cycle, what else can I do besides telling myself I’m “okay” when I’m really not ok? Hyper sleep and having your brain awake all day every day for months in end is terrifying.

      Hi Audrina,
      This can be tricky to see and believe, but if we think about insomnia, how does it happen? Is it deliberate? No, it happens automatically when we aren’t understanding and we start struggling.
      And it’s the same with leaving the struggle… it’s also something automatic, it happens by itself when we learn and do some near work…
      The difficulty is to allow this automatic reversal without trying to intervene… but it happens to so many here, hang in there and let us know how things go

    @thesleepcoachschool this happened to me last night. When I can’t get back to sleep in my normal position and become frustrated, I’ll many times just “rest” in another position because if I “rest” in my normal position and sleep doesn’t come it leads to frustration. This happened last night, when I turned to my back to just “rest” because I wasn’t able to get back to sleep after waking up in the night. I was thinking this hyper sleep was because of sleep efforts. Many times I think resting becomes an effort for me, because I can’t seem to do it in my normal position so I will have to go to the couch or my back. Sometimes I can drift off in hyper sleep in these different positions but many times not. Do you have any thoughts on this?

      Hi Lisa,
      I think there’s some really helpful awareness here. Sleep efforts are like secrets. Once they are revealed that they no longer exist. When we understand that what we’re doing is intended to make ourselves to sleep, the effort automatically fades so this is really helpful.

      Hi Cat! And welcome 😊
      So glad you’ve learned from these experiences and you know, I do think the short answer is that it’s just fear when this happens to us. This said it can help to learn about this common experience of patterns.
      It is very very common to have a pattern of sleeping a lot one night and then nothing or very little the following.
      But other patterns are very common too like sleeping well for three nights and then not at all for two or sleeping very little for three nights and then good for one.
      There are all kinds of patterns that happen particularly when you’re starting to understand sleep and you’re starting a program like this one..
      Here is the thing, there’s absolutely no mystery when it comes to why these patterns happen!
      Sleep is simple. If we are sleepy and we are not worried about sleep or something else, we will sleep. If we are not sleepy and/or we are worried we sleep less or not at all.
      The night in the pattern where you sleep more, that happens because you were resisting being awake less, you were more okay with not sleeping. The night in the pattern where you sleep a little, that happened because you were resisting more, you wanted to sleep more/you were less willing to be awake.
      Weirdly, sleeping more can make you more pressured to sleep and then you sleep a little. And sleeping a little can make you feel less pressure to sleep and make you sleep more. This is one reason why these patterns are so common!
      There’s absolutely no clue or insight to be gained from these patterns except for the above!
      The pattern is no sign that something weird or unusual is going on!
      So what to do?
      Know that a big reason you find a pattern is that you’re looking for one! You’re paying attention to your sleep (which of course is expected, don’t be hard on yourself for this, the brain is often in problem solving mode when you’ve had trouble sleeping!) and this leads to finding patterns. When you’re not paying as much attention to sleep, you no longer will be aware of patterns.
      Also, recognize that when you sleep well it is because you are more OK with being awake at night. And when you continue going in that direction, when you become Ok with both a night of little sleep and one of much sleep, when you become unattached - the pattern will go away and you’ll sleep without struggles.

    1. Last night i was watching a movie on hbo max. Suddenly my wife came from the other room to tell me: stop SNORING! ( i sometimes snore when i am asleep)
    I was like what snoring? I'm watching jack nicholson. Today i barely remember the movie...weird
    2. A week ago she started poking me because my snoring was waking her up....i think...The sensation was odd because it felt like this happend for hours. Yet there she was in front of me in the morning, rested. And so was i... weird

      Yes I think you’re experiencing what we talk about here, time traveling - where we are sure we didn’t sleep but time just skips ahead… and the fragmentation as well that happens when we become aware of more awakenings then we would otherwise. It can be quite bizarre, but it helps to know it’s nothing strange or unusual 🙂

    Why is it that these vivid dreams are happening on hyper sleep ?

    • @thesleepcoachschool8192
      @thesleepcoachschool8192  5 месяцев назад

      Hi! Do you know if you take a random person that is sleeping and wake them up frequently by let’s say, just poking them and ask them if they remember their dreams, they will remember a lot of dreams just at that time and also after the fact. So sleep fragmentation in itself. Makes us have a lot of dreams and experience having a lot of dreams.

      Hang in there RW, it does show that nothing but ourselves can make sleep happen.. I know it can sound unbelievable but when we try to sleep taking medication, it’s an effort, and effort can keep us awake… but when we no longer try, it happens by itself

    Is this different from paradoxical insomnia?

    • @kimjane7172
      @kimjane7172 2 дня назад

      Yes it's different. With paradoxical insomnia you literally think you are not sleeping at all, but you are very much sleeping but because you have so much hyperarousal it just feels like you aren't sleeping because you are constantly aware of your surroundings. I had paradoxical insomnia after coming of sleeping pills and I didn't think I was sleeping night after night and this went on for months with me. But things are slowly improving as I don't have paradoxical insomnia much now instead I'm having hypersleep and very aware that that im actually sleeping now. It may not be good quality sleep I'm having but the way I see it my hyperarousal is slowly down and that's part of my recovery. Daniel has a couple of videos on paradoxical insomnia.
