This video is brilliant and made me realise that Mad Max is just like the ancient accounts of warrior samurai in Japan. Some of the stories were written decades, if not centuries after the events and were incredibly fantastical. Not just by what happens in the stories but by the age of the heroes. Some stories make particular claims that a warrior lived for 200 years. Others will claim a particular warrior was involved in an event when they would have been in their 80s, but the description makes them seem like they were still young and sprightly. Miller was recently asked in an interview if Mel Gibson would ever reprise his role as Max, and he responded by saying that he never imagines Max as an old man. I now think I know what he meant by that.
I am so grateful for this video because I really liked the whole mad max vibe and theme. I just never got a chance to enjoy it because I only watched one movie, DID NOT understand what was going on after I watched a second movie so I ended up just playing the game.
@@michals5873Yes. I've heard this one as well and it makes sense. The feral boy, inspired by Max, takes on his persona and heads out into the wasteland. The one problem with this theory is however that at the end of The Road Warrior, the feral boy is portrayed as an older man narrating the story of Max and appears to be the leader of the people who lived in the refinery and escaped the Humongous and his men. I suppose it is possible however that he sets out as Max after these events. It's a good retcon to use because in that timeline the feral boy would be about Tom Hardy's age in Fury Road.

This needs to be updated to recall the events of the Video Game, as it has now been accepted by George Miller as Canon, and it updates Max's events surrounding Gas Town, Hope and Glory. Also, the Timeline works best if you go Mad Max, Furiosa's Capture and Dementus' rise to power in Gas Town, Furiosa loses her arm, Road Warrior, Furiosa 40 Day Wasteland War and Finale, Max Rebuilds the Interceptor, but it's a shell of it's former self, Mad Max: Video game, then Mad Max Fury Road, and finally Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. The timeline works if you understand that different parts of Australia would have divulged into chaos quicker than others and may, or may not have been closer to the areas of nuclear fallout.
i'm going to go with furiosa and fury road being someone just calling themselves max after the legend of max taking down toecutter spread through society and he dies at the hands of aunty, kinda how like there is always the phantom, but its never the same phantom. the game is way better than those two movies btw
you're completely wrong about the details . Thw guy they find at the car is not the girl's boyfriend , her boyfriend is the guy they see running through the field with no pants on , the guy at the car is johnny , one of the gang who drugged up so bad he couldn't ride when the gang left so he was just sitting there wasted out of his mind .
I never saw the original until I was older. I had seen Road Warrior and Beyond Thunderdome when I was young and always liked them, but seeing the original put it all together. At this time i have probably watched the original Mad Max nearly 100 times, it is by far my favorite of the series, and in my top 10 favorite movies of all time. So much is going on discreetly in the background and all around that you don't notice the first few times you watch. Everything in that movie is so raw and gritty, it almost has an unscripted feeling to it. The characters are perfect and the actors they cast fit the roles so well. It is loaded with symbolism and easter eggs all over. From an artistic standpoint it's a cinematic masterpiece in my opinion. And done on a super low budget and with no special effects makes it even more impressive. This was a very good summary of the series and I especially enjoyed how much time was spent in the original. I feel like the original is the most misunderstood of the films, and is underrated. A lot of casual fans don't even know it exists or don't like it. I didn't knowvit existed for a long time. A big reason is because in the United States, the second film was only called "The Road Warrior" and not "Mad Max 2 : The Road Warrior". It was marketed originally as a stand alone movie and not a sequel to another.
Yeah that’s the basic casual fan theory bouncing around for clicks, but if you look at the details it doesn’t line up. The feral kid is an old man telling us the story of max as the narrator of the movie. Summer Nix child we see at the end of Thunderdome learning about the legend of max and growing up with warrior mother. Heck if you watch thunderdome closely and read between the lines it might actually be Mad Maxs kid.

I like the idea of Tom Hardy's Max in Fury Road is actually the son of Gibson's Max from the first three movies. With Fury Road being set decades after Thunder Dome. After Thunder Dome, Max found a settlement, he meet a woman there and they both fall in love with them having a son. Max finally was at peace and could move on from the murder of his previous wife, son and the years of wondering the sands and the madness of the wasteland. He named his son after himself, Max... or the boy liked the name and just calls himself Max after his father. Would love for a movie with Gibson and Hardy together on screen. Just an idea 🤷🏻♂️ Call it, Mad Max: Wasteland.
The tie in comics made sure that Mel Gibson's Max is the same as Tom Hardy's Max. As Tom Hardy was 36 during Fury road and Max was supposed to be 40 in Thunderdome it all comes together nicely

Really? Not even close being great, to me what was the point of making the movie. Furious wasn't even the main character in the 4th instalment of Mad Max
Mel Gibson got the part of Max by accident if I remember rightly. He hadn't planned on auditioning, but had given his mate a lift there to do so. He'd had a bar fight the night before, and Miller noticed him with a black eye and thought he fit the part of Max quite nicely and so he asked him to audition and the rest is history.
It's like George Miller said himself, the first few have a somewhat timeline but Mad Max is like Bond, there is no real timeline it's just stories of the character of Max.
Okay I want to answer some of the questions about why do people think that it was nuclear warfare. In the first Mad Max movie one the original Creator wanted to actually use nukes. For the world's actual downfall but after doing some research it wouldn't be practical. As a storytelling tool if the world was like burned up and destroyed then how could there be a lot of green. And the radiation alone would make it much more complicated to tell the story not to saying that he couldn't pull it off. So he decided to go a different route add number two the second factor is a lot of movies were using nukes. as a post-apocalyptic story narrative so everyone else just assumed that it was just nuclear war. Because everyone else was doing the exact same storytelling narrative tool and Mad Max was just thrown into that category. So to basically sum it up movie companies and Studios were using nukes as a post-apocalyptic story narrative Max got lumped. into it the Creator wanted to actually use nukes but decided to go a different route as a storytelling tool. Hence why he chose resources like gas and water and Greenery very practical reasons.
The Nuclear War was never a thing until Thunderdome and was added for the American audience. Mad Max and Road Warrior are about resource depletion and running out of oil. Society collapses. Does need bombs for that. So it was retconned that the nukes dropped sometime after road warrior.
Ngl I hate that we waited so long for a new mad max and all we got is a spin off from a character that didn't mean much (Imo) (I wasn't blind sisded by this movie, I just want more badass max, no one else, just like the OG's)
I suppose, but 4 out of 5 of the movies feature Max, whilst only one stars Furiosa, so there's plenty of Max to go around, and if George Miller gets his wish, he wants to do one more movie with Max returning.
Shouldn't have really come as a surprise to anyone following the franchise even remotely closely in the years following Fury Road. I'm not sure why all these hardcore fans didn't know the next film was Furiosa. Everyone acting shocked like they had no idea when Miller talked about it publicly & plenty of information about it being in development hell for years.
There was a theory that the little boy from mad max 2 grew up and was the protagonist for fury road and would explain why he looks 30 instead of late 50s.
And it was proven wrong by Miller himself and you didnt need him to disprove it as the end Road Warrior tells you exactly what happened to the kid, through his own voice as the narrator. I have no idea how people come up with this stuff. They need to pay attention.
I never cared about theories or speculations. I just take the story how it is told, which is good enough for me. Whenever I read what type of Theories and Speculations they write, all I can do is chuckle. Nonetheless... some things better remain mysteries, never to be solved, unless the writers decide to do so.
You have to remember 95% of Australia is unoccupied, the only part of Australia is the complete coastal line pretty much wrapping around and everything else is almost unlivable, as you see in the movies. It's not a nuclear fallout wasteland or something, it's just a hardcore unlivable Mad Max like environment out there. I remember being mind blown when I heard its a baron. Imagine your country only use 5% of the land.
Canada has to be pretty close. A good portion of it is either frozen tundra or sits on the Canadian shield which has very poor ground for agriculture. People do still live in these areas but it is sparse. 90% of Canadians live within 100 miles of the United States.
Is Furiosa that great of a hero? She rescued the 6 most comfortable people in the citadel, some of them weren't even sure if they wanted to leave. She could've taken 20 of the starving people on the ground instead and Joe wouldn't have chased them. When she learned the green place was gone she tried to lead the women to their deaths until Max talked her out of it.
watched "Road Warrior" 1st on VHS, I was 12 then watched "Mad Max" the next week. Do yourself a favor and watch I and II...III was a cash grab but Tina Turner's in it and "blaster and master" so worth a watch.
Beyond Thunderdome is weird. It's like 2 different movies. After Max gets exiled from Bartertown it just gets really weird. But then it ends strong with the high speed chase and the train. Descent movie overall but the children cargo cult part is just bizarre.
I really like the fan theory that max from fury road is actually the feral child from road warrior. Backed up from "raging feral" tattooed on his back by organic mechanic during the initial capture scene. A feral when asked his name would absolutely just make or remember one.
The narration of the intro to the Road Warrior always made it clear that Mad Max 1 was long after the nuclear wars, the narration being pre-Mad Max 1. Mad Max 1 also implies radioactive areas via road signs. The Main Force Patrol is a shadow of society trying to hold things together LONG after the break down post “the mighty warrior tribes” that destroyed everything in the world. I don’t understand why modern day fans don’t understand what every kid in 1982 understood perfectly well. Even the TV guides in USA stated Mad Max 1 as “post apocalyptic” which only means one thing. Hence nothing strange when Thunderdome came out with radioactive fallout everywhere. I wish keyboard warrior comic book readers would stop messing up basic 80’s movies plots that are flawless. Fury Road et al, are what we GenXers know as REBOOTS since nobody seems to have any good ideas anymore (and worse the comic book made up stuff shown here suggests reboot overhaul negating even MM2 and Thunderdome stories, so total BS for me, or rather, a complete unrelated narrative). To be honest, Thunderdome was already “rebooting” ideas of the previous films. But for Christ sake they are LONG forward in time after Walker crashed his plane. Max would have been a child himself, as those kids were not all even born yet to be as feral as they were, barely speaking properly. The implication was always Walker and any other adults, after establishing the oasis and having children there, left the kids safe there and NEVER CAME BACK. The teen/adults there had vague memories and confusion, but had already been having children of their own, not having any adult to educate them. Jeez I just don’t get what is so hard to understand there.

17:09 The man, the myth; the power ranger villain himself. (Ransik's Vernon Wells) 😰❤
Max’s family getting ran over is one of the saddest moments in my movie watching history
If you have a young child, you might recognize a cartoon version of Max's dog. The Australian cartoon bluey lol.
Nice work, man 👏 👏
I love Mad Max. Fury Road is severely underrated imo. Haven't watched the new one yet though.
With 6 oscars and a 8.1 on IMDb its hardly underrated. Its sad to see Furiosa doing so bad though, it also is a great movie.
For me it's just the original trilogy. These new movies are just not seen as canon.
You don't need to make mad Max movies anymore... Walk away.. it was a great franchise, walk away. The bloodshed can end if you walk away.
So that explains why some of the bandits looked Middle Eastern
One title, "Old Man Max," now you can finish mad max with Mel.
"Mature Max"
I loved to watching these movies as a kid
It's actually very realistic that the world would completely go down the pooper if that hypothetical situation happened with the oil shortage
@@4tesq95 it should only be about max Imo, it's in the title
Why would you care about Max story continuing unless it was Mel Gibson?
@@jmz2144 I liked Tom hardy, to me it's fine as long as it's Max in some age. It's like making a God of war but it doesn't involve kratos
Toe cutter, arm breaker.... 😂😂😂 good one! ... lol
The story of max saving then loosing the family is also in the 2015 in the main story
How is there enough gas for cars but no oil?
there's places like gas town but the oil that are produced is still very few
wow, good content in this channel
Max was such a badass holy fuck. I never even knew
I only know of 3 Mad Max movies
Nothing ever "begs the question"
I subscribe to the headcanon that Hardy's Max is the feral kid and that "Mad Max" has become more of a title.
Impresionante esfuerzo. Gracias.
Mad Max is just like Lassie!
Could you do the pacific rim franchise and don’t forget the anime and graphic novels of pacific rim
Wouldn't really call it anime as much as animated series
I never cared about theories or speculations. I just take the story how it is told, which is good enough for me. Whenever I read what type of Theories and Speculations they write, all I can do is chuckle. Nonetheless... some things better remain mysteries, never to be solved, unless the writers decide to do so.
The shotgun didn't jam. That type of shotgun can't "jam". The round was a dud.
The story from the game being in between Furiosa and Fury Road would be a better alternative imo
Well done
Hardy’s the Feral Child, teach the controversy
Mel Gibson could still play the role!
Mad max , reservoir dogs, alien these movies started it all.
4:57 this is not the boyfriend, this is one of toe cutter's gang, the boyfriend is seen moments earlier running half naked through a field
Lack of resources led to people wearing leather pants and driving around in supercharged v8s and killing people
Is Furiosa that great of a hero? She rescued the 6 most comfortable people in the citadel, some of them weren't even sure if they wanted to leave. She could've taken 20 of the starving people on the ground instead and Joe wouldn't have chased them.
When she learned the green place was gone she tried to lead the women to their deaths until Max talked her out of it.
Can you imagine JOE ending up being max burned friend from the first movie OMG that would of been a crazy
watched "Road Warrior" 1st on VHS, I was 12 then watched "Mad Max" the next week.
World: has an oil crisis
Soviet Union: laughs in energy self sufficiency
Thats the real twist, all the global warming also made Siberia into a massive fertile territory i assume lmao.
@@Cotac_RasticIf global warming does turn out to be a real thing long term then that's pretty much what will happen. Instead of being uninhabitable near the poles, the earth will have temperate climates way north and south and be uninhabitable near the middle.
We owned one of the buggies from thunderdome definitely miss it was cool
The new Max is a different person to old Max.
I just f****** hate how the interceptor has never properly been able to shine
They should make a Mad Max movie with electric vehicles. Then they discover they can use coal, natural gas, solar power, etc.
There's only 2 Mad Max movies and that's it. Just like there's only 3 star wars movies.
So close! There are actually several Mad Max films and around a dozen Star Wars movies. Better luck next time, buddy!
We need a new Mad Max movie set after Fury Road. Max should have a new sidekick and a new love interest
Needs Mel Gibson.
@@kerriemccoy1647 He's too old now. Tom Hardy is a decent enough replacement
@@Nick-zp3ub BS, Liam Neeson is doing action movies & is roughly the same age as Mel
I hate fanboys like yourself who cry whenever an actor is recast. It’s one of the reasons the Star Wars sequel trilogy sucked so much. Better to have recast luke, han and leia with actors in their 20s and continued from where rotj left off. Tom hardy is a better max than mel gibson and chris pine is a better kirk than bill shatner
@@Nick-zp3ub B.S. Mel is a better Max & always will.
Tbh i like the fury road tie in game more than the comics
Only the Mel Gibson Movies count.
