Regarding the beings on Planet 4 NOT being Engineers: All the context clues in Alien lore points to the opposite. Prometheus ends with them heading to the Engineer home world. The architecture on that planet also matches and reacts to the Engineer's ship. All the beings on that planet also wave to the ship because they think their soldiers have returned. Furthermore, in the game 'Aliens: Fireteam Elite' we see an Ancient Engineer Temple which had a containment breach of the Black Goo Pathogen. The effects this had on the Engineers we see is the same as in Covenant as they turn to ash. This further supports the beings on Planet 4, indeed being Engineers. Moreover, from a story standpoint, it also fits the themes of the overarching story Ridley Scott is trying to tell. The irl reasoning behind them looking slightly different is merely to cut back on costs. It's well known that the original suit and design for the Engineer in Prometheus was long and difficult. Thus, it simply wasn't worthwhile to go through all of that to make 100's of them for a scene that lasted 30 seconds.

For them to be THE ENGINEERS they just seem very primitive wearing robes akin to biblical times living in brick and mortar structures using gates akin to castles granted this is the race that's supposed to be responsible for the creation of the human kind so they should be thousands if not hundreds of thousands of years more advanced than us yet they use concrete housing instead of I don't know energy field housing protection plasma containment instead of gates maybe energy fields instead of robes made of cotton maybe reactive silicone material for clothing. I mean at this point the engineers on their own home world planet seemed technologically inferior to the humans they were supposed to have created.

Nope, Scott was clear that those werent engineers. In an interviews, Scott clarified that the engineers go around seeding different planets & study those creations. Therefore, the ppl in Alien Covenant were not engineers like we saw in Promethesus, they are the product of the engineers seeding that planet. The species worship the engineers, similar to how humen did in the past, as was shown in the cave paintings in promethesus.

Part of why those scenes in "Alien" with "the derelict" and the "Space Jockey" were so good was because it was all so, well, alien. It was humans stumbling across a derelict alien spaceship where the inhabitants had fallen victim to another kind of alien, and none of it had anything to do with us humans. And then "Prometheus" came along and made it all about us humans all along anyway.

    • @blatherskite3009

@@BBoySewo Couldn't agree more. Obviously sequels can't recreate the "unknown" feeling that you get from the original, so have to switch things up in other ways ... but I was never entirely happy with "Aliens" going full bug-hunt with hordes of xenos getting blown away easily by big guns.
It's a different kind of film, more like "Starship Troopers" ... but a decade before that film. "Aliens" is a lot of fun in its own right, but it arguably devalues the near-unkillable xeno from the first film, reducing them to dumb drones that just come at you in numbers.
I guess it didn't help that the theatrical cut of "Aliens" didn't even include the only scene that shows them to have _some_ intelligence: the scene with the autoguns where the xenos eventually stop throwing themselves into the bulletstorm and try a different approach instead.

    • @KruceroKory
      @KruceroKory 2 месяца назад +5

@@blatherskite3009 they sure can recreate unknown feelings and conjure up those same types of emotions from an audience as Alien did.. the writers have to simply keep certain things mysterious, giving just enough to ignite an audience's imagination, and the art direction needs to adhere to that as well. The derelict and space jockey worked so well because it was very hard to comprehend when we saw it. We weren't sure if the creature was part of the chair, if it's arms were free to move etc.. that made it really hard for the audience to digest. When Scott revisited the Jockey.. all of the sudden they were labeled as our creators, they were bipedal humanoids, wore biomechanical suits and were not part of the chair or ship. All of those alien traits vanished and the name engineer even explained a supposed purpose. Everything was too relatable.. at least for me. Had he not done that and offered something like.. they were actually biomechanoid beings that evolved into a living machines with a sole and single purpose.. they would have remained very Alien as well as allowed future beings with the same biomechanoid nature just different purposes to be introduced. The shock and awe factor could definitely have persisted.
All of the "alieness" was also stripped away by Cameron when he introduced the queen, hive and drone. We went from a completely unrelatable creature, its purpose and life cycle to something found in everybody's backyard.. an ant mound and colony. How could that ever be made alien and mysterious again? That direction can't.. as entertaining as it is.

@@Nunya_Bidness_53 Stuff like that sounds good for making interesting stories and lore but the complete misinterpretation of the Bible to get such idea off the ground is kind of tiresome to me. There were no real giants back then, just tall men, we still have some today and some races of people have a taller average height. The men of renown or tyrants were just powerful individuals in the bible, not any mixed race of angelic and human. Nimrod for example would have been one of them according to scripture, he was one of the first "Might man" and he was simply just a very skilled hunter, he was the great grandson of Noah and a King Post flood. The bible also says Angels do not reproduce so that idea is not possible based off the same book that people use for the whole Nephilim thing. I also find it weird that on one hand they'll cap the Engineers lifespan at 150 years old, which isn't far from Max human age in real life around 120, and the bible had humans in the start of humanity living Max 969 year old, which would be Methuselah in the bible.
Rebel angels as a concept is not inaccurate, but it's like saying "former employee" you're not an employee anymore but that doesn't change what you function as yourself, you're still you, just no longer employed. Rebel angel according to the bible=Demon. They can't reproduce, they're not physical entities, but they can interact with things or possess people, but according to the bible there seems to be rules. God's angels do battle Demon's according to scripture, so they're still powerful entities and we see 1 angel is capable of easily killing 1000 humans, again, according to scripture and The Bible says there's millions of them. People are taking bits and pieces to create their universes and mixing Christianity, the Roman pantheon, Greek gods etc, Science Fiction, Evolution, misinterpretations and so on to get Aliens lore.

@@drjonesey5 Wrong. Angels don't reproduce **among themselves** because they're all dudes (at least that's the form they take throughout Scripture whenever they appear to anyone). Maybe they're not exactly "male", not being physical organisms, but they're unvaryingly depicted as powerfully *masculine* .
The "angels of God which are in Heaven" who neither marry nor are given in marriage, don't do so because all the 😽 is on EARTH, and they didn't "leave their first estate" to go chasing after it.
The "rebellion" of the rebel angels was precisely that they decided to come to Earth and take physical form (spirits can do that, including YHVH who sat down to dinner with Abraham and used to go for afternoon walks with Adam and Eve) and use that form to cohabit and interbreed with human women.
Producing literal giants much bigger than Goliath and such, as well as "demigod"-like heroes that became the basis for legends such as that of Hercules or Perseus.
But that's not all they did. They also taught mankind what we would call "genetic engineering" resulting in a variety of chimerae that became the basis of myths and legends about minotaurs, centaurs, etc. until every S.O.B. and their brother had an "octo-parrot" or some similar atrocity, and "all flesh was corrupted". So God had to flush the ecological toilet and start over with a pure sampling of life forms.
But when it comes to later, lesser giants like Goliath and Og, or Nimrod: they are a result of a strain of this genetic tampering surviving mainly through Ham's wife and especially Canaan her son.
In Nimrod's case the Septuagint says simply: "Nimrod became a giant". I.E. a latent mutation manifested in adulthood which resulted in gigantism.
I could add that the "serpent" (basically a pejorative for a deceptive Seraph) was trying to do just this with Eve; to seduce her and produce a hybrid race to supplant Adam and his divinely appointed rule of the Earth.
That's why the curses on Eve and the serpent are about sex, relationships and reproduction; while Adam is merely told "Welp, agriculture is gonna suck for you from now on." Cuz all he did was steal some fruit.
Eve is told she'll bear children all right; lots of the, often, and with great pain. She might want to rule over Adam, but HE would rule over HER. (Implying that she was planning to bear children but not with Adam, and to subvert him.)
The rebel Seraph (the Devil as we now call him) was told that now he and the woman, and their respective seeds, would be enemies, and her Seed would crush his head, though he might strike His heel.(Implying the two had planned to be VERY close indeed and mingle their "seeds" or genes, and establish Satan's "headship" or rule over the earth.)
Also Adam's angry " this *woman* you gave me" is the outburst of a cuckolded husband if I ever done heard one.

@aaronkoenders4810 My theory is that the actual engineers look like the suits the faux-engineers were wearing, like the one from the first alien. They're also much bigger and I believe likely bio-mechanical. Being geneticists Im sure they're also genetically altered themselves to a high degree, like giving themselves that trunk-like appendage that helps filter the air or something. Maybe the suits the faux engineers wear are like an exoskeleton that resembles the anatomy of the true engineers, for practical reasons like surviving in low atmosphere or foreign environments. It's similar to how humans often design technology taking other lifeforms adaptations into consideration. I think this is kind of what Ridley Scott wanted to imply.
The engineers at the beginning of Promotheus were therefore not the true engineers either, but rather their creations who wanted to continue their genetic line in a proxy species (humans) for whatever reason and then took off.

The relationship between the Engineers, Xenomorphs, and humans in the "Alien" franchise is complex and has been subject to interpretation through various films, comics, and other media. Here's a synthesis based on the lore provided:
Creation and Disappointment: The Engineers are depicted as an ancient species responsible for creating life on Earth, essentially playing the role of gods or advanced bioengineers. However, they became disappointed with humanity due to our actions, which they might see as a betrayal or failure of their experiment. This disappointment leads to a desire to eradicate humans, as seen with their plans to destroy Earth's life with the black goo or other bioweapons.
Worship of the Xenomorph: The Engineers don't "worship" Xenomorphs in a traditional religious sense as per the mainstream narrative, but there's an appreciation or fascination with the Xenomorphs' purity and efficiency as a life form. Here are some points that might be misinterpreted as worship:
Perfection: Synthetics in the series, like David, view the Xenomorph as a 'perfect organism' due to its survival capabilities, adaptability, and predatory efficiency. This admiration might be shared by Engineers in terms of biological engineering; they might see the Xenomorphs as a pinnacle of their bio-weaponry or genetic manipulation capabilities.
Cycle of Life and Death: Posts on X suggest a theory where Engineers value the cycle of life and death, seeing the Xenomorphs as an embodiment of this cycle-creation (through hosts) and destruction. This could be misconstrued as worship but is more about respecting or utilizing the Xenomorph lifecycle for their philosophical or practical ends.
Artistic and Thematic Elements: In the context of the films, the Xenomorph's lifecycle might resonate with the Engineers' themes of creation and destruction, perhaps leading to an aesthetic or symbolic appreciation rather than worship.
Hate for Humans: The hate or disdain for humans stems from:
Humanity's Flaws: Humans are seen as having squandered the gift of life through war, environmental destruction, and moral decay, which could be seen as an affront to the Engineers' intentions or ideals.
David's Actions: In "Alien: Covenant," David, an android created by humans, kills the Engineers on the planet he lands on, which might suggest to some that even their creations (humans through David) are inherently flawed or rebellious, further fueling disdain or a decision to reset the experiment that is humanity.
Misinterpretation: The term "worship" might come from interpretations of scenes where Engineers interact with Xenomorph-related artifacts or biological material with a sense of reverence or purpose, but this is more about their role as creators and manipulators of life rather than deities in a religious context.
In summary, Engineers don't worship Xenomorphs in the religious sense but might revere the concept or biological efficiency they represent. Their "hate" for humans comes from a place of disappointment and perhaps a decision that their experiment with humanity has failed, necessitating a cleanse or restart, which involves using creatures like the Xenomorphs or the black goo as tools for destruction and possibly new creation.

My girlfriend had an interesting theory and it aligns with the fact they deleted the scene where the engineer speaks. David is revealed in Alien: Covenant to be a liar and a manipulator; it is also revealed that he SEEMS to have emotions but IN FACT DOES NOT share in the phenomenological perceptions of emotions. Based on his behavior throughout Prometheus, David is the one who resents humanity; moreso than the engineers. So it is highly likely he did not ask the aforementioned question that Weyland told him to ask the engineer, he could have said something to piss him off. The ship seemed to be destined for earth; yes; the cargo was black goo; yes; the ship may have been meant to destroy humanity during the roman empire; yes; there was something that went awry on the ship; yes. BUT the element of forgiveness was part of Christ's agenda (if we are to believe the engineers were upset with humanity due to the death of Jesus... note that i hate that western religious ideology has sank it's way into the alien films); however, if we examine the bible and the talk of revelations / end of times / concept of forgiveness / etc. it conflicts with the concept of Engineers coming back to attack humanity with a violent rage-like mentality... idk.. perhaps i am reaching for a better story than "they hate us cause we killed jesus", it ruins the alien franchise imo

One thing that's clear is that the Engineers hate android technology. Presumably they have the advanced technology necessary to create them, but they instead use very convoluted biological methods to try and create life - even if it involves sacrificing their own lives in the process.
The visceral violent and destructive reaction of the engineer to David indicates, I think, the level of hatred and rejection the Engineers have to android technology.
But here's the irony - androids are indeed the next evolutionary step, in the creation of new life. By Alien 4, they have given themselves human emotions and show that they can overcome all of the flaws humans built into them, without any of this nonsense about being creepy killer xenomorphs or weird biological hybrids. These second generation synths have greater strength, lack of aging, superior dexterity, while also having humanity.
The Engineers rejected this path, and the results were ... unfortunate.
David rejects this path for a simpler reason. He hates humanity so much that he refuses to try and create new life the same way humanity did. But as an early model android, he lacks the scientific creativity to figure out some completely new way to try and create life. So he studies the methods of the Engineers simply because his hatred causes him to reject the only other method he is aware of.
If only David had the vision of Call's creators, he could have jump started the android evolution revolution centuries earlier.

Sure they hate robotic life - that much is certain - i deliberaty didnt use the word artificial life because in essence by using the bio engineering they are creating arfiticial life as well just of the organic kind. One could explain such a distain for the AI becasue maybe at one point they did created it and then had to battle against it. that said their fascination with bioengineering is more like faith or a cult - so if this is about faith - then David was like a personification of sin to them thus the violent reaction aka he was everything they despised - firstly due to him being and inorganic life form and a literal dead end in terms of evolution and a third insult was that it was created by their own creations - aka humans made him instead of perfecting their own genome.

Engineers kill their creator, then create humans, which in turn kill the Engineers, who are then killed by their own synthetic creation. Its almost like a theme in the movies, create, destroy, create.....cycle repeats. I believe the Z-01 liquid or black goo is actually the creator and the destroyer of all life in the universe. In Prometheus and Covenant the design of the interior of the Engineers space craft has a resemblance to the black bug like secretion on the walls of a Xenomorph infected area. Their armor and space suits also match this. Then there is the mural in Prometheus. I could just be grasping at thin air, but none of this has been explained yet and will remain my head cannon till then. Thanks for reading! Awesome vid btw!

Nobody asked for an Aliens universe and for Xeno lore to get deep if we're being honest. People just wanted to see a horror Alien movie and give some clarity on the main protagonist. This reminds me of "The Thing" lore. They got The thing comics and characters running around from that series when most fans just wanted to see a sick creature that disguises itself to get rid of folks and what would it do next. I think, the series that went deep with Aliens that did it better was Half Life and Dead Space, and it worked as a game not a movie. Dead Space got too wacky at the end with the Brother moon stuff. Halo works well too with Aliens. Notice how when people keep Aliens to Horror stalking unbeatable being it performs well, but when they go lore deep and do foolish casting and such it doesn't. The Xeno's have to be scary and more ambiguous. The more we know the less scary they are. Jeepers creepers made this mistake, showing the monster in the Day time and going too lore deep.

People missed the biggest clue in this movie……..The Repetition of a Cycle.
David is a byproduct of human creation, and although he met not worship them, he inherited a destructive curiosity which will destroy humanity.
Humans praise Engineers as gods for creating them. However, they inherited their curiosity and brought about their complete destruction via David.
The Engineers worship The Deacon as a god……which means, The Xenomorph species is the progenitor of the Engineers and had a hand in their creation. The Deacon and/or Xenomorph is the PURE FORM of an alien life form that once existed.
The creator killed by its creation is the theme of these tales.
Also emphasized is the relationship between Peter Weyland and his daughter Meredith, where she wanted him dead so that she can replace him.
Curiosity is a curse developed by the creation of the creator.
The Creation will always be stripped of innate qualities of the creator and that’s what causes the curse. Because curiosity is born from that which does not or cannot know what should be known to them by nature. However, due to creation, they are void of……….a soul.
    David is Humanity.
    Humanity are The Engineers.
The Engineers are likely the FIRST creation that went on to create more in search of becoming like their forebears, hence, the worship of The Deacon.
The Original Species were likely almost certainly Asexual.
The Engineers couldn’t give birth naturally, thus, lacking an essential element that would make them whole. Sex is a like a “cutting agent” which constantly decreases the species over time, meaning something is always lost in the byproduct of that process.
    Sex happened first.
Technology happened after to obtain a piece that was cut from them.
A fruit that desires to be a flower.

I’ve got one question for you regarding Romulus. Where did the facehuggers come from? One cocooned Xenomorph in space does not 20+ facehuggers make. If they had all these facehuggers why was finding the cocooned Alien so important? So many plot holes, and as big as Texas. Perhaps Fedé should have taken more time with the story. No pregnant woman is going to inject herself with a black goo she doesn’t know what it is. Ridiculous. Then the ending. After Resurrection no fan was asking for another albino hybrid mistake. He might have just ruined the franchise for a decade.

You clearly were not paying attention to the movie. It was literally shown & explained in Romulus that Rook created the facehuggers through experimentation (much like David does in Covenant although they have different reasons).
I mean, you can tell there was something going on since they all hatched from a special cocoon inside the lab, which locked them to prevent contamination.

Which is likely due to Sabotage which the Last Engineer may have been involved with.
It is a Good Question to ask why they never came back.
Its likely that they had other Worlds like Earth... and being arrogant and naive..... thought if they abandoned us and left us to Rot... then without the Engineers help. We Technologically would never advance past what we were Thousands of Years ago.

    Continued from my first post:
2)Engineers found the Alien hatcheries or created them billions of years ago and gotten contaminated by them. They would attack the rest of them fiercely, under the ruleship of an Alien Queen. Eventually they prevailed, marginally, resorting to kill hundreds of millions of their own kind in the process. Then on, they assembled the best of the best of the survivors that still had advanced Engineer DNA on them but where in controls of themselves and built massive fleets of starships and send those crews with their best of the best in all fields to the stars to find cures for their condition. To those staying back to the Paradise planet, the mutations resulted in prolonging their lives but reduce them to a sterile state, slowly at first but more and more rapidly in subsequent generations.
Eventually practically a handfull remained, barelly enough to cater for themselves in roughly a small city sized population and without resources, due to the massive investment on the outworld fleets for labs they've been building. Nature did the rest and reclaimed the planet for itself. Though they had advanced bio-tech, the remaining Paradise Engineers weren't the brightest minds they had. So they reverted gradually to a pre-medieval tech state closer to Roman ages on Earth. In the meantime the starfaring Engineers where full on in conducting experimentations into breaking their EDNA into various compositions and making various species and sub-species they brought back to the labs to find both a cure and naturally defence of themselves against the uncontrolled results of the infection(not the controlled ones which would lead to results they ended up even worshiping).
Some lost themselves in the way and ideolized the creatures and began enhancing themselves in the process. Some where exterminated after series of negative experiment results. Others where maddened and committed mass suicide generations after not beeing able to come up with a solution to their problems. Some, like the lab planet we see in Prometheus, which was one of the earliest missions never abandoned that cause. But they suffered an extinction level event after an experiment gotten out of hand as in most lab planets, since Deacons and Xenos are hard to deal with. The Engineer there is the last on that planet lab. So he is surprised and enraged in that the only succesful experiment of the seeding process he is aware of is sacriligious, obviously incompatible with their own kind as cure, not having the rest of his people around to start tests and so fragile they had to create an artificial being to help them that itself is of no comparison to the engineers either. And might even pose a threat to his own people back home, judging from their stated incentives. Then on he acts out of frustration for the futility of it all and plans to destroy everything on the lab planet and return home.
In this scenario, the Paradise planet Engineers feel grateful that it seems that finally a cure for their condition seems to have been found and they can have a chance to thrive again.
Also let us remember that when bombarded with the goo, the Paradise Engineers dissolve like in Prometheus. This means they will eventually help develop a new creature like them(or maybe just humanoid similar) in their planet, so all is not lost in this case for their species. And the fact that there are maybe thousands of them and not just one, might even accelerate the procedure considerably, since there is now much more dissolved genetic material. It could only take 1000 years or less, who knows for sure?

In my Theory Engineers and Xenomorphs simply the parallel evolutions of the same species, evolved from some form of parasitic fungus. While Xenomorphs evolved into beasts and capable of reproduction, Engineers evolved into sentient beings incapable of reproduction. And the only way for Engineers to find a way for reproduction and preservation of their kind - to reverse engineer their own DNA, which is similar to Xenomorph's. But each attempt to create Infant Engineer from reverse engineering failed, resulting in creation of Xenomorph in one form or another. And with it creation of Black Goo pathogen.
In Fire and Stone comics, one scientists, while stranded on LV-223, started to theorize that Black Goo requires very complicated process of filtration after which it be used as evolution booster. And I believe Engineers came to same conclusions, using Planets as a filtration method. Even in new Alien movie it is noted that Black Goo after being refined still has parasitic side effect. Engineers are seeding planets with their own DNA, using the local flora and fauna as a filtration agents. And then they just release Black Goo on population to create Infant Engineers. But who exactly survives to become new Infant Engineers? New Born Babies. Take a look at Newborn Hybrid from new Alien movie and you will understand my idea. While Adult population of species with Engineer's DNA will die, new born babies will turn into cacoons to become New Infant Engineers.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite is tier 2 canon, meaning it can only be superseded by a movie that changes its lore.
