I much preferred the set up in the original Alien movies before the retcon. I loved the idea that humanity was taking it's first steps into space and finding something like a desolated galaxy, the sides involved dead by the weapons they resorted to, Great Filter-style. I liked the xenomorph as being like a metaphor for landmines on a cosmic/lovecraftian scale, as human's explored who knew what we might trigger in the dark corners of a post-apocalypic galaxy. So much potential in that idea now gone...
The engineer that killed weyland was disgusted at him begging for more life and silencing the scientist shaw who was asking the right questions but was silenced with a muzzle to her c section. The engineers face was so understanding of shaws questions, that I’m convinced he understood her.
Yes he seemed both interested in Dr Shaw and had a sense of Pity for David, but he looked at Weyland actions and he indeed knew that Mankind was still a Rotten Apple
The first of the movies gave you more of a sense of “awe” and “curiosity” toward this potential human origins story. The second didn’t have that for me. It was more of a look into the bio weaponry David harnessed and him becoming a “god”. “In order to create, one must first destroy”

After a belly full of chest busters, Xenomorphs and androids, the Engineers have been the best thing to reboot the franchise giving the whole story purpose. I find them far more sinister, scary and interesting than any chest buster. It's just sad Ridley gave into pressure and instead of making Promethues 2 and leaving Shaw alive. He created Alien Convenant making David the centre piece. I want answers to Shaws questions and Engineers to be explored in depth, not more of what we've already had over and over.
I agree we all expected that Dr Shaw would get us our Answers. But looking at David and Weyland and their Relationship and reason for Davids Creation and also why David wanted to Create is likely the same as why the Engineers created us.. which likely was because they could/test how Great they are. And/or to serve some Function
There was a scene in one of the original Alien films with a gigantic deceased Space Jockey in the pilot seat, with a huge hole cavity in his chest, that insinuates that he had gotten contaminated when either landing on a desolate planet and a distress message was sent out to the other neighboring space voyagers and Engineers, that is where that part of the prequel picks up at with Space Marines taking the SOS distress message from dead Space Jockey.
@@toastpuppy3491 Stfu, shiteater. And yes, Frieza also had a Xenomorph like form. Toriyama likes the Alien movie franchise ever since seeing the first movie.
Of course he didn't create the Xenomorphs. It was plainly said about the Alien film that the original idea was for the Xenos to have a complete, high functioning civilization, with the Queens and the male drones having elaborate mating rituals (involving a third party in some way) in huge temple-like structures. They were supposed to be this huge thing but R.S. was convinced to dumb it down because he was told that the average film-going audience was too stupid to understand/care about the super in-depth backstory they had. So yeah, "David" didn't create dick. He just killed loads of people because he was a psychotic robot that got out of control.
David may have figured out how to bio engineer his own xenomorph but the Engineer already did that ages ago..it's apparent when Shaw and them discover the ship. Their are massive murals of a queen xenomorph and other form of "the alien" as we know carved all over the walls. So David is just rediscovering something that knew bout ages ago

It’s probably highly unlikely for us to out smart them but in a rare occasion we could and they make mistakes just like us
DarkestEye there’s been lore throughout the AVP and colonial marines video game franchises that shows a potential civil war between engineers... those that wanted to make weapons and those that wanted to end the practice of species creation. The lore is that all this is really about a war between two engineer factions..
I feel like some of the horror of Alien was not knowing anything about where the Xenomorphs or Face-Huggers had come from. The more Alien (or Alien related) movies we get, the further away from horror it becomes. Kinda makes me worried for the future of the franchise.
In one of the films, Prometheus (I think), I remember the engineers sent someone to earth about 2000 years ago to teach them about peace and stop the violence...but humans killed him. After that they decided to wipe out their creation. I actually thought that was a good plot device which is why I remembered it.
Well, it's a long story. The Yautja were originally known as the Hish, but were augmented by the Amengi race of alien insectoids and after their creations overpowered them, the Yautja took over their technology.
I have my phases of things that I'm super into from time to time. Sometimes it will be Greek Spartans, sometimes it will be samurais, etc. Thanks to you, that phase is now aliens.... On a side note, you think you'll cover some things in the Stargate TV series?? Things like the Ancients and Asguards??
I have come to believe there are 6 types of engineers. Each shaped by their cast Elder. The black goo in the vials is hostile as when properly armed the canisters explode open, causing the goo to become agitated/hostile. At some point one or more of the factions had a disagreement on how to deal with the human population and they were sabotaged
the engineers held the xenomorph in high esteem because they used its blood to save their species, and thats why their pressure suits look like the xenomorph. but they ran out of its actuall blood a loooong time ago and theyve been simulating it with a techno-organic substitute. the big engineer head in prometheus was a tribute to the first engineer to have been facehugged. this is all stuff you can find out from the original script.
What if that engineer that we think sacrifice him self for the creation of the human race, was actually sentenced to death and he created us by accident.
I had heard somewhere (I feel that it was by Ridley Scott himself) that the Engineers in the Prometheus movie are actually a splinter faction of Engineers that were disgusted by the creations of the other factions of the species and this why in Covenant we see such different Engineers and they seem sorta happy to see a ship of theirs coming back because to them it means that their brethren are returning home and accepting their pacifist way of life.
Man I can't stress enough how fucking good Prometheus is, never have I ever had such a will to know the lore of a film like this. The exploration and pacing was excellent, the discovery just so satisfying, and the mysteries behind it all perfect. The film is also creepy as fuck, and so is the set design
Ridley destroyed the xenomorph mythos by forcing David into the role or creator. What made them so scary were the things that were unknown about them. Aliens introducing the Queen and Warrior class made it clear that they could come in any form, and further emphasized the threat they posed. Having them now be nothing more then a cyborgs pet project has made them as lame and pathetic as an experiment gone awry.
Except David did not create them. He was doing his on experiments on them but considering in Prometheus they go into the room with the canisters and there is a relief etched into the wall clearly showing a Xenomorph they obviously already existed.
Ridley's own words, were that he wanted to have David be the creator of the original Alien xenomorph. As the xenos carry over various physical characteristics from host to host, it could be surmised that it took generations of different host species to look the way they did in the original movies. Yet, even tho Prometheus clearly showed a distinctive looking xeno at the end. David somehow managed to create a strain that looked a lot like the original xenos even tho they were using the same species of host as the one from Prometheus.
Yet after the original film that unknown element was ruined by having about 50 Xenos in the movie. The thing that made them so scary was that you barely saw it, knew nothing about it etc. Only after Aliens do we learn more about them. They haven't been scary since Aliens lol.
@@soul_vicex So to you, its plausible that a ship containing hundreds of eggs would only ever infect 1 host? Alien was a claustrophobic horror. Aliens was a run and gun action movie. Despite the difference in genera, the menacing effect of the xenomorph was not lost. The only difference was that instead of a solitary game of hide and heel, we got to see the effect of a plant wide infestation. We still knew little to nothing about them. Yes we saw were the original eggs would have come from, but that was it. It took the cowardly more stealthy xeno from alien, and introduced us to its more aggressive and confrontational warrior cousin. Again, nothing else was reveal, questions were left answered. All we knew is that xenos were more of a threat then initially thought.
If we consider the AVP and alien timelines, which I know Ridley didnt direct besides first alien, then it shows the predators visiting earth sometime in the past. Now engineers and predators are rival civilizations and our ancestors began to worship the predators while the engineers were away. Engineers might not have liked this and maybe thats why in Prometheus the ships current target was Earth before the outbreak happened on the ship. Now I havent read much of the comics, so this is based mainly on cinematic observations.
00:09 Ever notice the Engineers body suit looks like its made of Xenomorph skins? Like a Gothic futuristic Xenomorph leather body armor suit thing, would make sense to make armor out of their hides, since its acid proof....js
Pretty sure the Xeno's were made before David, it just has so many genome editing abilities for adaptation. Davids just playing with a weapon he doesn't understand. To me it seems there is more then one version of the goo, or at least it can be edited to be volatile. One version to create life, another to destroy.
I always thought the engineers that David destroyed in Covenant were the same as the ones in Prometheus, and the reason they looked more like us was because the filmmakers didn't want to go to the effort and expense of all the make-up that was necessary for hundreds of people. So have I been wrong all this time? They were supposed to look less like the engineers from Prometheus?
Here's an important weakness in the plot of Prometheus that needs explanation: the cave paintings on Earth all give the location of the "military installation" planet, and not the Engineer homeworld or some other place. Why is this? Did military installation planet really have a different purpose somehow? Why would the Engineers direct humanity there?
@@gijane2cantwaittoseeyou203 Engineers: dont visit us here's a map of where we live! Jokes aside I think it was a warning that engineers will come down to earth from that planet to kill the humans if they misbehave
I'm hoping it turns out xenos are older and more mysterious and are the source of the black goo and David just came full circle with an inferior strain and we get our proto/xeno Dule.

I'm sure that xenomorphs wasn't made by David since that they have existed long ago. In the Alien Covenant, they mention something about all the information of the Engineers stored in a library. Maybe David used it to recreate the known being the Xenomorph so he can feel like a higher being than humans with his own creations.

9:14 there are extended scenes of the engineer speaking to Welan. He says in that monologue that they wanted to destroy humans because they had raised a child in paradise and sent him to earth to lead them in their advancement and the humans killed him. 2 thousand years ago.....it was Jesus Christ. The engineers culture is to sacrifice themselves to create.
For the 1st Alien movie event to happen, I see only 2 ways that can happen: 1. Covenant is captured by the Engineers, they force David to work with them, and either they go off to test it or David somehow tricks them. 2. Engineers come to Argai 6 to either populate/investigate it and find the xenomorphs, they then take some eggs, head to the planet but are killed off by the xenomorphs (facehuggers injecting them) and end up on the planet, and the inhabitants are wiped out. I personally don't see David working with them willingly, he'll either try to destroy externally or internally. But it will cut kinda close since if 2 is true, then David will have about 10 years to make the finishing touch; the Queen. Note that according to Walter, it would take 7.5 years to reach Argai 6. But if 1 is true, then I could see David having ample enough time as well as resources to finish his masterpiece well before that event. I do like origin movies, but I wish that Ridley had started Prometheus at an earlier date along with Covenant - It is a fictional universe and he isn't bound by "realistic tech development in time", even closer to our own time irl wouldn't be so crazy. The Gap between Covenant & 1st Alien timelines should've been wider, like 20-30 years wider, then it would allow David to R&D his creation more thoroughly. With the current gap, 10 to 18 years in my opinion is not really enough time for David to perfect it and somehow get the Engineers to transport it. Maybe theres a 3rd? David manages to make himself a God like figure to the Engineers for making the Xenomorphs, for all we know he ends up causing their extinction. Still, not a lot of time to tie in events. Still would make me wonder why Weyland decided on a such a tiny crew for such an extremely large ship, the one Ripley's team is on - just considering a Colony ship had way more crew. Compared to the ship Ripley's crew is on, Covenant for a Colony ship is SUPER TINY when you think about it.
It's funny how I'm more interested in the lore of these films than the films themselves. Bags of potential wasted in both.

I too think like he got pissed that Shaw was silenced brutally by greedy men contending to be as superior as engineers.

I love the backstory of the engineers, it is fascinating and leads to us asking our own existential questions,
I have come to believe there are 6 types of engineers. Each shaped by their cast Elder. The black goo in the vials is hostile as when properly armed the canisters explode open, causing the goo to become agitated/hostile. At some point one or more of the factions had a disagreement on how to deal with the human population and they were sabotaged
I hope after all this time your a bit smarter
We want more Engineers. The Prometheus story and start was great.
the engineers held the xenomorph in high esteem because they used its blood to save their species, and thats why their pressure suits look like the xenomorph. but they ran out of its actuall blood a loooong time ago and theyve been simulating it with a techno-organic substitute. the big engineer head in prometheus was a tribute to the first engineer to have been facehugged. this is all stuff you can find out from the original script.
What if that engineer that we think sacrifice him self for the creation of the human race, was actually sentenced to death and he created us by accident.
Now,that's a good question.

Alien Covenant is one of my biggest Disappointment.

Mathew Poole in other words Scott had no idea what he was doing
Yet after the original film that unknown element was ruined by having about 50 Xenos in the movie. The thing that made them so scary was that you barely saw it, knew nothing about it etc. Only after Aliens do we learn more about them. They haven't been scary since Aliens lol.
@@soul_vicex
So to you, its plausible that a ship containing hundreds of eggs would only ever infect 1 host?
Keep up the awesome work my friend :) And could you cover the robot from Wall- e?
This is my all time favorite night time channel. This dude helped me realize it’s ok to like hokey movies. Not to mention he’s got a relaxing voice.
Yes I think David found their designs and adjusted them.
They were the same it was confirmed by Ridley.

They told them not to go there. May be some engineers didn't agree with killing all humanity

He says in that monologue that they wanted to destroy humans because they had raised a child in paradise and sent him to earth to lead them in their advancement and the humans killed him. 2 thousand years ago.....it was Jesus Christ. The engineers culture is to sacrifice themselves to create.
Sooo... The engineers is just some mad scientist who wreck their own planet?
Pretty much. Doesn't matter how advanced you can get failure will always happen
Aaron Rodriguez failure is always bound to happen when a species becomes very advanced
2:40 thank you mortal man for telling them my tale of engineer hunting
For the 1st Alien movie event to happen, I see only 2 ways that can happen:
I loved both prequel films and I am looking forward to the next one. Let Ridley Scott finish what he started.
