I cannot stand the opinion that alien Romulus is a callback or is just a call back movie. Freddy was able to make a movie where you actually feel like you're in the world of Alien. Every set piece and scene created was specifically made to sink you into the story and world. The way the characters act, the way they speak, these are all things that are synonymous with Alien. That's why it feels so familiar.
Right. I loved it. I saw it in IMAX & my older sister who raised me on horror films - screamed 😂I laughed at her like “gotcha!” I forget what part. Either the humanoid reveal or a different jump scare scene. It really dove you inside the film. It was a joy of an experience as a lifetime fan!
Arw you knitting technicalities in a movie that is so bad it should be illegal? 😅🤷♂️. It feels more like a fanfilm and bootlegged, than an actual full studio production with actual top paid actors. Ot reeks of "I wannabe" and ruins the whole experience if you want it to be one of the actual alien movies. It's just wrong to put it out there under the Alien name. It's not a callback, a call back, it's a hoax.
I think Romulus handles the biblical symbolism integration into the alien lore the best out of all the recent alien movies. Prometheus had the right idea but it got way too lost in the more overt internal ramifications of the story, whereas Romulus took a more subtle and sparing approach to it. Specifically the parallels between the story of Romulus/Remus and the dynamics of the crew here is a lot more ambiguous and fascinating to really think about than the more overt parallels between the story of Prometheus and the engineers. But that’s just my opinion.
I don't get why people are mad at a movie using a movie tag line. It's cliche but fun and it's such a small thing compared to all the amazing shots and sequences and story this movie pulled off. live a little guys xD

12:35 “How could you do that?” - Rain “What? Leave someone behind?” - Andy I think that’s not only my favorite scene from the film but my favorite line as well. Andy forces Rain to acknowledge her own hypocrisy with just one short sentence. David Jonsson and Cailee Spaeny KILLED their roles.
The whole point was that she was facing a hard reality and learning synthetics are machines and not human, she had emotionally attached to a robot without feelings her whole life- then the end rescue part completely back tracked on that. Andy is just a chip with programming. He’s soulless. And she still cared more about him than any of the humans.
@@wp699Andy is also the only connection she has to her parents since her father was the one to reprogram him. Her and Andy both had to face a hard truth. Raine knew Andy would be taken when they got to yvaga. And Raine had to learn the truth about synthetics. But her saving him was reminiscent of Ripley saving Jones or Newt, but that’s the difference between humans and robots. A robot can’t appreciate life
Took my fiance who has never seen an alien movie before. She thought the get away from her line was funny and cute because he said it with a stutter. She now wants to watch all of the alien franchise. We started with Prometheus last night. Romulus is a good film. I personally liked all the call backs and homages because the plot was very different from the first alien film. You missed the Easter egg to raised by wolves btw. Remus and Romulus were twins raised by wolves. Ridley's HBO show that was killed off.
12:08, I was not expecting to care about any of the characters until Andy and his dynamic with Rain was introduced and then tested by her intending to abandon him since he's an "artificial person" and him growing distant from her as his "brother" programming is overtaken by Rook's "science officer" programming, prompting her to choose to fight through the Xenomorphs to get him back.
Honestly I understand why (in verse) they brought back Daniel(Ash/Rook) rather than Lance (Bishop) because remember in aliens, Ripley freaked out learning Bishop was a synthetic when they were all eating and bishop specifically states that the models before him with malfunctioning and they got rid of them. If this takes place years before aliens, this is probably why they went this route. They probably tried prosthetics but you know studios. Especially sense Disney is “proud” of the deepfakes. If Fede Alvarez used all prosthetics for the most part and doesn’t have a history of using CGI like that, this points to Disney being the culprit. And of course no one can say anything about it. Big Mickey requires your silence 🙄
After making this, Fede said it was easier to pay one man over multiple animators on top of an actor. Personally I’d love to see Rook more battered, looking like Bishop in alien 3, like a full on animatronic. Though I can see what they were going for
4:40 about the side note; ridley scott is referring to the engineers and the reason why in the movie Prometheus, they might have wanted to use the black goo for humanities extinction, it doesn't have anything to do with the xenomorphs.
That’s not needed we already know what happened and Isolation is a better experience as a game, but given Romulus’s time in the series (5 years after Isolation) i wouldn’t discount an Amanda Ripley appearance in a Romulus sequel,
an important note, the directors did ask ian holme’s widow for permission and her thoughts on it and she was very enthusiastic about holme’s post-mortem cameo. plus, i think at the very least the CGI as rough as it looks, adds to the creepiness of rook being a human-looking robot who is all torn up
Btw fun fact for Rooks actor, his wife said before he passed he wanted to come back and do it and had wanted to be in another film for years also Rooks model was used by weyland for special missions such as the whole of romulus
I kinda wish they'd gone for, say, "Get away from my sister" or something similar, it's one of the very few things that sits oddly for me, otherwise loved the movie
The issue with the alien franchise is besides Ripley, the Xenomorph is the most interesting character. These disposable casts that constantly cycle through fire franchises are difficult to root for. They feel like cannon fodder to progress the plot. I’ve never cared for any of them or rooted for their survival.
It was the Deacon in Prometheus. Prometheus and Covenant show David’s work and progression to the Xenomorph…well, just short of it. We dont see him finalize it. We see the Proetomorph in Covenant. But its implied David ends up creating the Xenomorph…in Alien content it literally goes from Covenant to Xenomorphs being everywhere. There is 1 comic that shows that another Advanced Alien species may have created the Xenomorphs earlier than David and separately. So my theory? The same as Dead Space. Or similar. A species evolves or is created by the Engineers. Eventually becoming space faring. Either they become a selfless species OR a selfish one ultimately creating Xenomorphs in some way. Kind of how in Dead Space, humans own hubris causes them to create red markers. If you didn’t know. I think its cannon or at least it was an idea that Jesus was an engineer. Essentially they didnt like how selfish humans got. Sent Jesus to save them. Humans killed Jesus. So they decided humans had to go, but crashed on the planet in Prometheus But the deacon seems to be the first stage. And they can grow to the size of mountains. Immovable though. Anyways, xenomorphs are the cleaner of a species hubris. If you want a full recap of the entire franchise, go to Movie Balls Deep. Has a 2.5 hour video of EVERYTHING. Great video to listen to while at work or doing chores Also Khroft Talks about movies. He does updates when new information or script leaks drop. I’ve become an Alien expert in like a week 😂
The adult Xenomorphs were the scariest they've ever been, thanks to the decision to use practical effects over CGI. The Offspring jumpscared me at the end, though because I was able to predict so much of it, that was the only jumpscare. But the most intense element of horror in the film was the way the facehugger _manumala noxhydria_ did Navarro once it choked her out, because it evoked such a sense of absolute _WRONGNESS._
I had no jump-scares. But that is probably due to my desensitization😂my older sister, introduced me to horror films in general, & she got jump scared 3 times lmao. It was a great watch. Super glad that they fixed the “black goo” element & how they were using it. Really saved the franchise!
"floating around like george clooney" at 2.28 is one of the funniest jokes I've heard all week but probably flew over a lot of heads if you didn't see Gravity
Or perhaps Prometheus 3, since it doesn't really go back to the original Alien Roots at all. It's just all the elements of Prometheus in an Alien setting which also features all the old memoirs and old lines, and additional nostalgic segments from the old Alien films. I wish I never saw this poor excuse of a film ever!

He was pretty annoying but remember Andy is just a machine and bjorn hated them because of what one did to his family and he has the knowledge and life experience to know that it’s just a soulless calculating thing made to look human. I don’t buy this whole robots have feelings too thing they were pushing in the movie. At first seemed like the mc was slowly realizing that her world view about synthetics was wrong and that Andy wasn’t actually her brother and was just a machine meant to make calculations and follow orders, but her rescuing him completely back tracked on it. Bjorn treated Andy that way cuz he knew what he actually was, while the mc was in fairy land and decided to stay in fairy land.

Saw it this week. As a lad of 16 bunking off college and queuing round the block in '79, this was the entertainment equivalent of chewing cardboard. Not an original bone in its body. How can you spoil an Alien movie? Haha. I personally hated the whole Prometheus spin. The Alien is obviously a bioweapons, probably used to clear out planets in a long forgotten war. I felt it more like the Berserker (Fred Saberhagen) series than this stupid progenitor idea. The fact that the corpos want to use the alien as an urban weapon fits this idea much better, and is much more relevant then the Prometheus spin. Quadrilogy for me, cause I’m adding isolation in my headcanon lol

I love this movie it was genuinely a good time and the ending is not what I was expecting & that thing fucking scared me
12:35
“How could you do that?” - Rain
“What? Leave someone behind?” - Andy
I think that’s not only my favorite scene from the film but my favorite line as well.

I actually loved david jonnson that played andy. I think he did fantastic portraiting him
12:08, I was not expecting to care about any of the characters until Andy and his dynamic with Rain was introduced and then tested by her intending to abandon him since he's an "artificial person" and him growing distant from her as his "brother" programming is overtaken by Rook's "science officer" programming, prompting her to choose to fight through the Xenomorphs to get him back.
Though I can see what they were going for
Was pretty cool to see the emergency phone booth (saving point) from Alien isolation.

4:40 about the side note; ridley scott is referring to the engineers and the reason why in the movie Prometheus, they might have wanted to use the black goo for humanities extinction, it doesn't have anything to do with the xenomorphs.
Thank you for mentioning Isolation. I thought Romulus was going to even bring up Isolation, what a great game and good movie!
I took the prequels shininess as a result of class. Considering who personally organized the mission and why.
That’s a great point!
That was extremely well put and make so much sense. A actor acting like a robot with human emotion is better then just most human acting.wild
They should make isolation into a movie
That’s not needed we already know what happened and Isolation is a better experience as a game, but given Romulus’s time in the series (5 years after Isolation) i wouldn’t discount an Amanda Ripley appearance in a Romulus sequel,
an important note, the directors did ask ian holme’s widow for permission and her thoughts on it and she was very enthusiastic about holme’s post-mortem cameo. plus, i think at the very least the CGI as rough as it looks, adds to the creepiness of rook being a human-looking robot who is all torn up
I agree ,him looking slightly off, blends perfectly with his current condition

So they decided humans had to go, but crashed on the planet in Prometheus
But the deacon seems to be the first stage. And they can grow to the size of mountains. Immovable though.
Anyways, xenomorphs are the cleaner of a species hubris.
