There's also a bit of darker context with the Soul Train element. The conductor is supposed to be Don Cornelius- the creator and host of Soul Train. He lived a long life but eventually committed suicide in 2012 because he was unable to deal with his declining health. So Soul Train now being a literal train for souls with Don as the conductor is Tim's way of adding in both that reference and keeping in line with the idea of people who commit suicide ending up as civil servants.

If anything I could see her in a state of unresolved grief, having 'lost' Adam/Barbara when they eventually had to move on. And I'm with Winona - I want them together too. Lydia should never have had kids, she should've been the weird old spinster with a ghost bestie. Would've been a nice way to build in the cartoon as well.

Yep while the first one was a home-run, I'd describe 2 as a base-hit. For all the build up, Delores did zilch. Rory's death wasn't mourned, but was also harsh (he was a POS but did he deserve to be murdered?). And the crux of the movie IMHO, Jeremy, got resolved in a split-second. Something where Delores saves him, juices him up, and then they crash the wedding, (Jeremy still intending for Astrid to take his place) might have made it a little tighter.
I thought the movie was fun but like they should have chosen one plot line there was too much going on and they were barely connected. Also I have no idea ol what they should or could do in a third one but I think they are legally obligated to make it now

My only gripe with this movie is that it felt like it had 2 dueling main storylines and because there was 2 of them that neither really had a satisfying conclusion, nor at least satisfying in my perspective. I mean I can’t be the only one to think the ghost of a murderous teen trying to come back by swapping places with Lydia’s daughter couldn’t have been a good enough story to fill the movie right? And why couldn’t the soul sucking demon ex wife be the main antagonist character for the whole movie of the other?
Yeah, it could have been just the movie about the teenage/Astrid stuff and lydia asking to beetlejuice for help, promising to marry him when the danger is over but all the search for Astrid and the teenage ghost is difficult because he could ve like some sort of mastermind but the burocracy of the afterlife constantly screws his plans and eventualy beetlejuice and Lydia find them and the ending is just like the movie. Im not saying my version is a masterpice but i think it could make the plot less convoluted
This is my biggest issue. There are multiple plots battling it out for the spotlight, and some of them are wrapped up anticlimactically. I thought the movie was OK for what it was. I think the plot was all over the place because there were just so many. I hated that they killed Katherine O’Hara’s character. Her, Danny DeVito(he was so scary lol), and William Defoe were the best parts of this movie in my opinion. I thought the whole ex-wife thing didn’t tie into the movie Well at all and I agree I hated the way they changed Lydia‘s character I didn’t see her as the woman they portrayed her as.
How was Lydia any different as a character? I can't understand this criticism. A depressed, lonely, able to see ghosts teen grew up to be depressed, lonely, and obsessed with ghosts. What change are you speaking of?
I'm curious how some people were able to see all the Bob minions when they ran for the hills. That kinda threw a wrench into who could/couldn't see ghosts.
My only issue is that Deolores made no impact on the plot. She was cool, her scenes were cool, but you could remove her and nothing would change. I thought they were setting her up to be the true villain and reason for Beetlejuice and Lydia to team up.
Films like Beetlejuice don’t necessarily need a sequel. I went to go see it & there was this one scene that I liked through out the whole movie is when Beetlejuice does a monologue explaining how he met his ex-wife while speaking in Latin (I think it was Latin or some other language) that made me laugh & giggle but that’s it, most of the jokes/scenes were really corny & Edgy. The only reasons I can think of why the sequel was made was because of course nostalgia & Warner Bros needs money. P.S. those baby Beetlejuice scenes were horrifying!
I didn't enjoy the baby Beetlejuice scenes. They were pretty gross and unnecessary in my opinion. The movie was ok but it wasn't funny like the first one.
If you read the headlines in the newspaper Betelgeuse is reading, 1 says it's the 7th day Caseworkers are on Strike and another one says that People are being Incorrectly Marked as Suicides at Death. So, no, he didnt commit suicide.
I wish the sequel would’ve been a story where Charles had exorcised Adam and Barbara by Otho when Lydia went to college. They could’ve shown it in claymation. And Lydia has no idea were they went when she returns. That’s why Lydia becomes a ghost medium to try to contact them and to cope with her loss- little does she know that they are stuck in the lost souls room. And the whole movie could’ve been the adventure to try to get them out before Dolores gets to Beetlejuice. Astrid’s dead boy boyfriend could have been the key to the rescue- And the climax could’ve been a soul swapping trick, played on DeLores, where she and her soul warriors she has collected gets sent to the lost souls room in exchange for Adam and Barbara soul. And a comic two minutes to get them past the soul train dancers into the train before a otherworld timer runs out that would have sucked Adam and Barbara back into the lost souls room. This would’ve given, Lydia, Barbara and Adam opportunity to say goodbye

I feel like what they were trying to do is say that Astrid finally got the ability and Jeremy was the first one she saw.
@@AnneHathawayRules ohh maybe, but why didn’t the parents react to all the noise upstairs?? Why now is she getting her abilities and what set them off? Because she couldn’t see anyone BUT the love interest
@@user-ly2cm6zk5l She did see the parents. Why would they react to the noise upstairs they might not know they're dead yet. When Lydia came in they didn't seem to understand that they were dead yet. And remember Astrid was about the same age Lydia was in the first movie when she saw the Maitlands. That was the first time Lydia saw ghosts and it was because she was under the stress of moving and her dad remarrying. Astrid was under the stress of having her father and her grandfather dying recently. Maybe if you have that gift you have to reach a certain age and have stress in your life for it to unlock.
9:19 yeah thats weird they even just made Wolverine depressed. Lazy writing?
