My theory is that he didn't trust Jefferson and Madison since they were always enemies in office. As the 2nd definition of ''paranoia'' states: ''suspicion and mistrust of people or their actions without evidence or justification.'' He was afraid that Jefferson and Madison would tell everyone about the affair, he was paranoid. Over time, his paranoia must have kept growing until it eventually became a sin for him, so he decided to write The Reynolds Pamphlet in order for his paranoia to stop bugging him. That's only what I think.

Though it cause a great amount of grief for his family and he almost lost his marriage because of it, it's almost better to hear it from him rather than a third party.

Let's face it, would you rather hear about it from the man who cheated, or from someone who would probably sensationalise the entire thing to make Ham look even worse? I'd rather hear about it from the actual man myself.

Jefferson and Madison both say they won't say anything, mainly because they both know there's no legal action to take so they have no stake in this business, and Burr at the end is saying "Well shit you know about my affair and kept it secret I'll keep yours a secret too." WHY DOES HE FUCK IT ALL UP GOD DAMMIT
Aqua Allison My guess is to clear his conscience because he is his own worse enemy and noticed how guilty he looked when he heard confess. It's like his sin of cheating on his wife is crawling up his spine. He couldn't hold the secret anymore and feel the need to confess.
My theory is that he didn't trust Jefferson and Madison since they were always enemies in office. As the 2nd definition of ''paranoia'' states: ''suspicion and mistrust of people or their actions without evidence or justification.'' He was afraid that Jefferson and Madison would tell everyone about the affair, he was paranoid. Over time, his paranoia must have kept growing until it eventually became a sin for him, so he decided to write The Reynolds Pamphlet in order for his paranoia to stop bugging him.

Both said no, but against better judgment he did anyway due to his paranoid state. He would rather people hear it from his mouth rather than spread the rumors of the affair. Though it cause a great amount of grief for his family and he almost lost his marriage because of it, it's almost better to hear it from him rather than a third party.

In real life, half of the story was actually leaked by James Monroe *No Madison had nothing to do with it, there was no historical evidence to suggest he blackmailed someone*, so Hamil decides *Like any reasonable person* to come clean. Eliza actually knew about the affair long before it was published *She forgave him long before Phillip's death *. Let's face it, would you rather hear about it from the man who cheated, or from someone who would probably sensationalise the entire thing to make Ham look even worse? I'd rather hear about it from the actual man myself.
