My english teacher gave my class some assignment on rap in poetry (or smth like that). It was based off of Hamilton and we had to answer some questions and do an analysis on the characters. So, she then played the musical for us during one of her lessons. It was all going well, the class laughed at the jokes, gaped at various lines, took notes down, sang along, you know, having a swell time.
But then comes this part of the act - 6:02 . During this part the whole class was quiet, we were actually trying to concentrate after calming down from a laughing fit. Anyways, this very scene shows and the class is intently watching, out of nowhere the guy sitting next to me blurted out - JUST KISS ALREADY 💀💀 lmao. Istg i have never died so much from laughing, prolly busted a lung too. The class legit went feral, our teacher tried to silence us but she was laughing too.

John Laurens’ death hurt Alexander Hamilton a lot. So much so that he never became the same.
After Laurens’ death Hamilton didn’t talk to anyone for two days, not even his wife.
After that he closed himself to everyone, couldn’t easily make friends.
He never talked about Laurens again since it hurted him so much to remember his death.
According to Ron Chernow, "Hamilton did not form friendships easily and never again revealed his interior life to another man as he had to Laurens", and after Laurens's death, "Hamilton shut off some compartment of his emotions and never reopened it."
Alexander became full on more workaholic after John's death. Most likely because his work distracted him from the loss of Laurens.
In October 1782, Alexander Hamilton wrote to General Nathanael Greene
of Laurens's death:
“I feel the deepest affliction at the news we have just received at the loss of our dear and inestimable friend Laurens. His career of virtue is at end. How strangely are human affairs conducted, that so many excellent qualities could not ensure a more happy fate! The world will feel the loss of a man who has left few like him behind; and America, of a citizen whose heart realized that patriotism of which others only talk. I feel the loss of a friend whom I truly and most tenderly loved, and one of a very small number.”
The letter was most like only one page long.
Alexander who wrote the 51 out of the 85 essays in The Fedaralist Papers,
Hamilton who wrote a 95 page pamphlet about his affair,
The person who wrote countless essays on, sometimes, literally nothing,
The man who writes about everything,
Alexander Hamilton;
who wrote like he was running out of time,
who wrote day and night like he was running out of time,
who wrote like it’s going out of style,
who wrote day and night like it’s going out of style,
who wrote like tomorrow wouldn’t arrive,
who wrote like he needed it to survive,
who wrote every second he was alive,
Could only muster a couple passages about his dear Laurens passing, in a letter!
Words could not describe how devastated and hurt Hamilton was so he didn’t write about it, he couldn’t write about it.
Alexander Hamilton who talked for 6 hours at constitutional convention couldn’t talk about his best friend/lover dying.
But still, I think the few sentences Alexander Hamilton could write about John Laurens’ death speaks volumes.

@@yesagreed8419 The worst part is the reason many can’t do as much research on Alexander and Laurens’ relationship is because of THOSE DAMN HISTORIANS WHO BURNED THE MAJORITY OF THEIR LETTERS.
The few letters that did survive are either heavily censored (they basically censored every word that was even slightly romantic) or have parts of it cut out and burned.
Knowing Alexander Hamilton, he most likely wrote pages about his love to John Laurens but THOSE HISTORIANS BURNED THEM.
But I guess we’re lucky to have the “Cold in my professions, warm in my friendships…” letter.
But we’ll never get to read Laurens’ response because it was BURNED.
