- Matthew Heimbach insists he's not a racist. This comes as a surprise to his fellow students at Towson University, in the suburbs of Baltimore, where Matthew has formed a group called the White Student Union that advocates for "persons of European heritage"-what most of us call "white people." It also comes as a surprise to the African American students who feel targeted by the night patrols the senior history major began conducting in March. The patrols target supposed "black predators," Matthew wrote on the WSU's website, citing (among others) a case in which an African American man pulled out a knife and his penis, and wagged both at a co-ed couple who were copulating in a parking garage. "White Southern men," he wrote, "have long been called to defend their communities when law enforcement and the State seem unwilling to protect our people."
We recently went to Towson to meet Matthew and his cronies, as well as the students who want him off campus... or at least muzzled. White Student Union is a documentary about race, class, and self-righteous college students yelling at each other.

Hi, update for anyone that’s just now seeing this documentary like I am: I’m a current Towson University student and am happy to say that I’ve never heard of this man, his friends, or any impact they’ve had on the school whatsoever. There’s been no continuation of a WSU on campus, and crime on campus is still very rare.

I now live in a very multicultural neighborhood and still don't feel that way. If a white person feels their race is being attacked in some way, that person is the problem. What I do see plenty of is people of color being attacked just for wanting to exist.

the civil war ended up just being the north crushing the south so that they could get some more economic power later. They made it about slavery so that European militaries wouldn't try to help the south, making the northern victory easier on northern industry and economy. The union was strongly against a secession because they relied on an economically unified USA to eventually become the #1 nation on Earth.

+The Dude There's a few ways of thinking about that, and I'm not going to say anybody of any race shouldn't have some level of advocacy. The thing is with something like black student union, the concept is navigating school when you are not like most people. This guy didn't make the white student union as a support mechanism for people who might feel like outsiders, he did it because he has a white nationalist agenda (hence the remainder of his days).
If you are the majority of the school, then forming a club based on being different doesn't necessarily work. I would go with any other division by which you are a minority in the school, such as interests or religion or ideology. All of these have similar clubs in schools.
Also, most people don't realize that black student union (same goes with other races as well) isn't exclusive. There have been members of other races in the club.
Here's an example to maybe make it more clear. Say you were studying overseas in Japan. There might be an English speaker's club, but you wouldn't expect a club towards Japanese speakers, because you don't have to advocate for the majority of students (that happens naturally as you tend to the student body).
At least, that's my opinion. My post was more on the person than the action.

I did already spell out my main reasons. When you are the majority, you already have advocacy. Look, I say we agree to disagree then, right? You seem to strongly have your stance, and my opinion is different, and at the end they are both opinions.
The Dude what are you not understanding from what he is saying? When you are the majority you are already being carted to...having advocacy for the majority does little to nothing. It’s minorities that need advocacy since they are the few and they might get overlooked. For example, If any race is the minority at a certain college, be it white, black, Asian, Latinas, or whatever it is fair for them have an advocacy to make sure they don’t get overlooked when rules/policies are being made. It’s about having representation for the few, not the many since the many are already represented by the simple fact of being the many.

Arab isn't a race, it's a culture; and besides, those countries use Islam as proxy for everything else and it holds dominion over all people who live there.
