The Rise of the Crisis Actor Conspiracy Movement

- Over the past 10 years, a growing online community of conspiracy theorists and hoaxers known as “truthers” has come to question the official narratives behind every mass shooting that is heavily covered by the media. A common thread in these theories is the government’s role in staging the tragedy with the help of mainstream news, in order to manipulate the general population. In this continuously recycled narrative, the death and destruction of the tragic event is faked, and victims and their families are “crisis actors,” who are performing a role in order to elicit sympathy that can then be used to advocate for new gun laws, or anti-terror surveillance that restricts Americans’ freedom. The commitment to these narratives has escalated to the point where victims are frequently harassed, mocked, and even threatened in retaliation for their supposed deception.
We meet some of the proponents of false flag theories, including Side Thorn, a conspiracy theorist in Texas who has been confronting survivors of the Sutherland Springs mass shooting, as well as Tony Mead, administrator of the largest Facebook community dedicated to False Flag narratives, and Wolfgang Halbig, a former school administrator who made a name for himself with the claim that no one died at the Sandy Hook shooting. We also talk to people targeted by hoax theories, like Lenny Pozner whose son Noah was killed in the Sandy Hook shooting, David Hogg, who was accused of being a “crisis actor” for his calls for gun control after the mass shooting at his high school in Parkland, Florida, and Frank Pomeroy, whose daughter was killed in the Sutherland Springs shooting.

Aqualistic I think you misinterpreted what he said. I think it was a general statement about the current situation the USA is in and the direction it is going right now. Not just about those conspiracy theorists. I mean hell, the US-president itself spurts out conspiracy theories. Sure, there are quite alot of good people in the US, but there are so many horrible people and so much is going wrong. It's quite sad and I hope the USA as a nation will finally get to its senses after/while Trump. Although I got little hope for that.
Every country on this planet has a certain percentage of the population that is bat shit crazy. We are a country of 300 million people and you are judging us on the .0000001% that are the loudest, craziest, and unfortunately get the most attention from media. I would never assume anything about a western country if I saw a video online of someone insane from there. All conspiracy theorists are riding a thin line. They are sane enough to have a job and pay the bill, but they are still bat shit crazy. The UK is the size of Minnesota, but its population is extremely dense compared and most people live in suburban type areas heavily populated. WE have 50 states and the UK is only the size of a mid size state. We have a very large rural population in the states they still grow up in a rural area. We grow up respecting and owning guns for hunting. At the age of 5 my father started teaching me safety for firearms and how to clean and maintain them. He then started taking me with him when he went hunting to let me observe how to carry the firearm safely, how to climb and bring it up safely after, and then finally several months of actually how to fire the gun safely and where to point and not point. I respect everyone's right to do what they want, be with who them want and not have to worry about things in their life changing because of the views and beliefs of others. Live and let live. I personally do not care much about or own a pistol or tactical style semi auto weapons. I do think people have the right to own them though. I own a semi auto hunting rifle that will shoot just as fast as the kind in the news people want to ban. I think most people that are not gun owners do not even know this. This is why we laugh at gun laws aimed at those types of weapons. There would still be semi auto rifles the only difference would be they have a wood stock and do not look like a military weapon. Gun laws would only affect people who follow the law. This is the reason why people get so mad that own guns. Mentally ill people and psychopaths do not follow the law. Even if you banned guns outright and magically collected them all it would not change anything, but the weapon used to do mass killings. They would get in a truck and run a crowd down, build a bomb, use a knife, or any other way they could to kill someone. I used to be a lefty and somewhat lib in the Bush years, but I never understood their take on guns. That is until I finally had so many tell me their true feelings. They know gun laws will not stop mass killing. At least most of them do. Their goal is to get the ball rolling to get more and more gun laws until they are completely banned. They hate the right and they can not stand gun owners and gun culture. Also, they want to demoralize gun owners because Trump was elected now. You can not tell half the country they are going to be treated like children and have their rights taken away because of things that can not be controlled. We should be crying for better mental health care. It is none existent in our country now and every mass shooter has shown countless red flags for years before they killed anyone. The majority of the time the police were notified the person was unstable and nothing was done. IN Florida the cops were called in the kid over 40 times and he told everyone what he was going to do. Elliott Rodgers made video after video showing he was very sick and wanted to kill people. The police went to his house after being told he was dangerous and talked to him for a few mins and then left. The best example of our none existent health care system is Charlie Zelenoff. He was hundreds of videos on him on RUclips right now. He is mentally unstable and attacks people in gyms everyday. This person should be in a mental home or watched 24/7 because he could become a mass shooter. Instead he is ignored and laughed at as just some weird guy. Chicago is a very strict gun area and because of the criminals know the people that follow the law mostly don't have guns because this makes this city one of the worst. THey kill as many people or more in one year compared to every mass shooter ever in the history of our country there. If that isn't a giant red flag I dunno what is. Using kids as a token to get gun laws is very low too.

These people couldn't make it through really basic public education. They don't have the tools for self-reflection and logic, they literally just repeat the things they read on troll sites and echo chambers. They use projection constantly to hide behind their insecurities about their mental deficiencies and loser lifestyle. They don't want to listen to reason or truth, they want to live in a delusional fantasyland becasue it's the only place they feel some control over.
There is no helping these people other than removing them from society (no job, no federal security/assistance, no friends, no family). If you know anyone like this, cut them out of your life permanently.

Update for anyone watching now: Wolfgang Halbig, 73, was arrested Monday on a charge that he was in unlawful possession of another person’s identification, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
He was calling and harassing families all night and in person.

Mr. & Mrs Smith Purely by chance, I happened to be at the Twin Towers site late at night/early in the morning before the 9/11 attacks. All of the activity that would have been necessitated by the conspiracy theory scenarios was simply not there. It was absolutely silent, dark, peaceful...and totally, utterly deserted. No workmen, no vans, no nothing.
The only reason I can think of for why anyone would or could claim that there must have been workers there preparing, is that it usually WAS so deserted there at night that there’s only a very few people who can truthfully say what they saw, and any possible security footage proving that I or anyone else was there was destroyed along with everything else.
But maybe the most striking thing for me is the cruelty. Even if I were 97% sure that some horrific tragedy was a hoax, the mere knowledge that there was still even a 3% chance that my “speaking the truth” would mean I was deliberately causing such cruel anguish and agony to victims and survivors...I don’t think I could go through with it. Heck, even if the ratio was 99%:1%, I would still shy away. (Not to mention, of course, that if I DID ever find myself absolutely convinced that I was seeing “evidence” of some unspeakably huge, expensive, nefarious, insidious, conspiracy, while the vast majority of the public and anyone who had anything to do with the subject claims I’m nuts for thinking it exists...one of my very first instincts would probably be to get myself a full psychiatric and neurological evaluation, in case I might actually be crazy! The hubris and chutzpah of one person, or a few people, with no actual connection to an event or subject matter, insisting that only THEY have the smarts and ability to discern what nobody else has suspected? I can’t wrap my head around it.)
Mr. & Mrs Smith Exactly! That gets to me, as well: I mean, I like to think of myself as intelligent, reasonably perceptive and decently educated. But, in spite of (or maybe, because of) that, if I ever found myself thinking that literally every expert and scholar and professional in a given field was wrong, and I somehow managed to be the only one to see The Truth...well, then I’d probably figure that I had missed something important and go back to the drawing board or just defer to those others. For this reason, I think that “crank magnetism” (the willingness to believe multiple, complex and even contradictory conspiracy theories) almost by necessity requires a pathological level of malignant narcissism, in addition to the more obvious delusional and psychotic tendencies.
I totally agree that there’s a big step between knowing a truth, or “The Truth,” and wanting to share that knowledge, whistleblower-style, with elected officials, the media, etc. in an effort to enact positive change or seek justice...and deciding that only you have been blessed with this special knowledge, which is so unimaginably important that the fate of the very world rests upon you convincing humanity that you’re right, and therefore no possible evidence could ever sway you from absolute devotion to that Truth, or even lead you to question aspects of it or reevaluate it if new evidence should appear. The former might even be noble, depending on the circumstance...but the latter is the definition of dangerously fanatical zealotry. And if history has shown us anything, it’s that zealots value their “truth” above any and everything; above kindness, compassion, common decency, and humanity. Zealots live in a narcissistic solipsism, in which all that matters is them: their truth, their beliefs, their feelings and emotions, their lives...nobody else matters to them, since in their reality we’re all just basically person-shaped cardboard cutouts, to be grouped by them into categories such as, “gullible sheeple,” “evil elites,” “sleeper agents,” “useful idiots,” “crisis actors,” “fake victims,” etc. They don’t feel any need to treat other humans humanely, because in essence they don’t see anyone else besides themselves (and sometimes other conspiracy nuts) as truly being “real.”
Eric Bowman I have no doubt whatsoever that there are conspiracy theories based in fact. But I also have no doubt that plenty of them are misinformation, disinformation and/or the products of disordered minds. The problem is telling the difference while it still matters.

If my daughter was lost in something as horrible as a mass shooting and some wack job yelled at me that I’m lying I don’t think I would have the ability to not completely end that person. Props to that pastor for remaining cool, although he’s a pastor so probably would be a bigger surprise if he wasn’t cool about it.

Anyone can arrest anyone. They just want to be sure of what they're doing because they could open themselves up to a whole lot of litigation. Someone can arrest a cop if they see them doing something wrong; the cop being off-duty would be the most typical scenario where that would happen. On-duty could invite a whole lot of trouble. Better in that situation to try and record what the cop is doing and forward the footage it to the appropriate agency.

My 17 year old daughter passed away in December of 2021. Let anyone stand in my face and say “what daughter?
