I can't thank you enough for demonstrating this amp with a solid body (S-type no less ) electric guitar. It's precisely what I needed. Again..thank you!
I have a friend who played AERs for years. He now likes Henriksen Bud better. I bought one on his recommendation about 6 years ago. Has been on between 400 and 500 gigs, sounds great and is always consistent. So far, no problems. 9" cube cabinet, 6.5" speaker, 16 lbs. Around $1200.
Thanks. This amp doesn't take dirt too well. But with something like the Strymon iridium it would take dirt just fine. I'll do a part 2 with that. Thanks for the idea.
They get pretty loud. I've played it in a quartet with a trumpet player and it had no problem keeping up. That being said, if you turn the volume up in the preamp too much it doesn't break up well. The clipping sounds horrible in this amp. It's really just a great clean platform if you're planning on not using any kind of gain.
@@guitartris8455, right, I prefer no break up at all when cranked up to nearly the highest levels. I've yet to find an amp that doesn't lose it's tone or musicality as the volume rises. What do you mean by clipping? Thanks.
@@michaelleescott5360 the master will stay clean when cranked but the imput volume will start to clip of you push it too far. Clipping is just putting too much signal through. If the circuit can't handle it it will overload and clip. (In this case it sounds like crackling. In other cases it becomes distortion)
I've tried the AER 60 with both a spruce Parker fly and a carved top es335 style semihollow with much frustration and disappointment. But, using a line 6 Helix, I was finally able to find some decent clean jazz tones after a 3 or 4 year struggle. The settings are not obvious and were very difficult to find. I still have to use the lightest touch possible to avoid harsh ice pick tones on the high strings, struming barks and other tone artifacts the sophisticated Heilix tools can't resolve. For the es335 clone, I have always blamed the PAF style humbuckers and the fact that hardly any AMP designed since Leo Fenders black faces were voiced for hollowbodies or semi hollows. Not even the AER. Some post 60's jazz guitarists won't even touch an electric archtop possibly for that reason.
My old parker was the brightest guitar I've ever owned. That being said I always use my tone knob to roll back some of that harshness. I gave up on jazz boxes years ago because they just aren't versatile enough. I went to Berklee and we all thought it... " You can't play jazz with a strat man" But the style of music is played by the musician, not the instrument.
Lol, but how much jazz has been played on a Jazz chorus? I think more 80s stuff, just like the Jazzmaster is pretty much the shoegaze guitar. I love how things with the name Jazz don't get used for Jazz. But that amp does sound great.
That's a really good question. Off the top of my head I generally leave the three band eq untouched (it's an active eq). For jazz I tend to add a little reverb and press the color button ( a preset EQ that tends to cut some of the high mids and warm up the tone). And that's about it. It's pretty much a plug and play clean. Awesome little amp. It's definitely one that I've had for over a decade and will never get rid of. Hopefully that's helpful.
Hi! Great review, the amp just sounds amazing! Thank you for also sharing your beautiful playing 😃 I’m mostly a singer who plays acoustic guitar, but I ‘m mainly focused on the vocal performance. Would you still recommend me this one for small gigs/busking? Heard that some people don’t really recommend it for vocals, but I guess is also a subjective thing. Thank you ☺️
Martin Taylor use’s one it must be good, I use my mom’s. Yes my mom’s. She plays rhythm guitar using a hofner jazzica. It has jazz in the name it must be good.
Thank you for the sweet demo. For someone new to electric guitar (solid body), would you still recommend this as a first amp? I mostly want to play clean tone, jazz, don't need distortion. Really looking for an amp that won't color my sound too much. Basically, I'm looking for a good amp that I can grow with and eventually perform. Do you have any opinions about the headphone out (e.g. as good as the speaker tone) for night time practice?
It is. It is great as a Jazz Clean amp or acoustic amp but if you ever change your mind and want to add some grit it does not work well with gain at all. I love this amp and will never sell it but if I were to pick a killer jazz amp price wise I might go Polytone or Jazz Chorus. (better bang for your buck)
Roland Jazz Chorus 40 or 120 though I've heard mixed things on it taking pedals well. As for cleans though it's hard to beat. Crisper and cleaner then any fender amp. They're not too expensive especially used.👌
Most definitely NOT the "greatest jazz amp". This is BS hype. The greatest jazz guitarists of all time never used it. Back in that era they all played tube amps, mostly Fenders. There's a big difference. The amp is only part of the sound. The rest is the guitar, the strings, and most important of all---- what comes out of the guitarist's fingers. I prefer tube amps because there's a warmth and a depth that is missing from solid state, in my opinion.
Leo fender would argue that you were wrong as he was always in search of the cleanest tone not affected by tube amplification. But that's just his opinion and he wasn't a jazz guitar player. In fact, he wasn't a guitar player. He was just an engineer.
LoL Alan Holdsworth didn't have a headstock and played Carvin guitars. What was he? Scofield switched to a tele recently. So he can't play jazz anymore???

Beautiful amp, it’s light it’s loud, it’s rock solid, it sounds great! Not cheap, but you get decent quality. These do not break on gigs.

Nice I'll have to check them out!
Not bad at all!!
I did choose DV and Henriksen.
Thanks 4 your video.
Been looking into this amp since Hirofumi Asaba uses the 60/3, love his tone.
People.. what do you think about the "roland cube street ex"?
I like Roland stuff but this amp is next level.
What about the fishmann loudbox mini? Have you tried ? Any comparison ?
I've played one in a store. I'll have to pick one up for comparison.
The sound…it’s deep.
Great amp, and your playing is beautiful. Would love to see a part 2, where you get a little dirty. pedals and effects. ambient ? thanks.
Thanks. This amp doesn't take dirt too well. But with something like the Strymon iridium it would take dirt just fine. I'll do a part 2 with that. Thanks for the idea.
"How could you beat that? It has jazz in the name."
😂😂😂
Oh shit when the gain goes up... that's something else.
Great tone, before i saw uour guitar, thought yoi were playing a semi-acoustic
@@colinpadley1897 it's one of the only amps I will never ever get rid of and would replace immediately!
What kind of headroom do these have? Is the tonal quality still good at high volumes?

Very accurate point! LoL
Quite a lot of jazz was played in Jazz Chorus. Pat Martino, for starters, recorded some stuff with one.
Not actually a jazz guy but loved it man!beautiful playing ❤
Curious about what settings you are using on the amp?

It’s an acoustic amp? Right? U simply plugging electric guitar? Thnxx brother ❤
I think it was designed for acoustic, but it sounds incredible with electric
Is it also a good amp for singing??
You'd still want to run it out to a pa. But it's a good starting point for reverb and self monitoring.
Absolubtly
I have some jazz singers friends and they also say that i has the best tone in an amp for voice.
@@guitartris8455 Thank you. I will just fingerpick and sing in a bar with 20 people. Enough power????
@@jasper_north definitely.
@@guitartris8455 Thank you!!!! It’s not the cheapest but it will be worth it.
Henriksen 310 or 320

It sounds great on vocals. It's not the loudest amp on vox. Maybe I can do a review of it on vox next week.
@@guitartris8455 please do...I've had the same concerns
First class number one review. But wish you could’ve sung through it.
I'll have to do another one.
JC22 is compact and light
I have one of those too. I'll do a review on it soon. I wouldn't recommend it.
Play a Henriksen my man
I have not... but I will.

If you thing that’s great, get a Bugera AC60. The same amp for $250
Ok I'll check it out
Nice amp but I wanted to hear an archtop guitar. Trying to decide on a better jazz amp. Can't stand the Roland sound.
Yeah I'll have to get one and do a pt2 of this video.
