In my 30 year career, I have yet to find a company that isn't garbage.
Have worked for 6 carriers, they are all BS. Its too bad they can't be even remotely reasonable.

Then you sound like the perfect candidate to start your own company and hire drivers and deal with the issues and expenses to run a trucking company.2 am phone calls I just hit a deer and steer tire blew out in the middle of nowhere or hey I'm in the shoulder of the road because what should be a 50.00 coolant line ends up being 200.00 because it's a kenworth and they know they have you by the balls, then ends up being a broken motor mount issue that ended up costing another 1500 in parts, because well its kenworth and they can. Most drivers don't take care of the trucks and the added expense of having to buy new mattresses and have trucks detailed after a driver quits, or the expenses of having to retrieve a truck and trailer because a driver decides he knows more than the owner and just abandons the equipment, yep you definitely sound like someone who should start up and build a trucking empire make sure you pay your driver 70 cpm or 75% of the load because well they just deserve it.
@cliffgarner76 Exactly, drivers quit these garbage companies because there is always an issue. Drivers get blamed for stuff that they didn't even do. These garbage trucking companies can put anything they feel like on a drivers DAC potentially blackballing a driver out of his career whether true or not. And why is it that every single pay day something is missing from my settlement? Sounds like you are an owner of a typical garbage trucking company.

Drove long haul for 4 years then got into construction over the last 10 years. hauling gravel and asphalt, Getting paid hourly and overtime pay after 50 hours. I make twice as much per year compared to long haul and go home every night.

Ya my company pays overtime after 50 also! Dryvan! I think it sucks! Hopefully the union renegotiates it at the next contract. We are still getting paid like it is pre pandemic/inflation! U got bs places paying as much as trucking companies!
@rafaelcolorado9437 agreed, it's a construction industry standard where I am unfortunately. Still significantly better then long haul with milage or percentage pay.
The first company that I work for about 5 years ago paid me $0.38 per mile starting. Absolutely horrendus. I could barely afford to eat.
32 years driving. Best way by far to get paid is per hour, period! The second best way is percentage of gross truck revenue.
I have made as much as 33% of the truck, running super B train flat deck and grossed about $10000 per month personal wage.
The best way is to know and agree to your fixed weekly salary + all the overtime extras if any.
Lol fixed gross. Companies either outright don't show you what customer pays or they run double accounting schemes.
Generally, you'd want to avoid any job vacancy that states "ASAP", "Urgent" or any other desperate message as such, IN ANY industry.
It's a red flag that these people have problems and most likely don't know what they are doing. There's nothing good for you in these places

I just started with Stevens roughly 1 1/2 month in. I'm getting .50 & still feel like I should be getting more even if I'm a rookie.
I did the same thing. Depending on the manager, if you try to quit, they will either threaten or try to process your termination on your DAC report. Watch your back!
In a text exchange with a recruiter, I asked the same question. "Percentage of the gross?....who's/which gross?" The recruiter replied with a "middle-finger" emoji and said, "Don't waste my time!"

@@timmellow1353 I reported them to FMCSA, with a screenshot of the middle-finger emoji. I got kicked around the administrative circles a bit being told it was NOT a "safety issue". Finally a department was interested and took my complaint.

I feel like a hourly pay would be better for drivers. And for the days the company can’t find a load should be a minimum per day pay for sitting. This why drivers won’t feel so rushed or get frustrated when a shipper takes 5 hours to load as long as I’m going to picking up or under a load it’s hourly for my 14 hour work clock. If the company can’t find a load I get paid X amount for sitting in the truck waiting for one.
My company when I drove paid me if I sat at pickups or deliveries for over 2 hours. Wasn’t as much as when I was moving, but it was something. I left because I didn’t get paid for down time/layovers, and it was starting to become every other load had me waiting until the next day, and my checks were reflecting it. Now I’m taking a break from the industry and seeing how it’s gonna go in a few years, and getting qualified in some other options that interest me.
I was being paid 28% and received the rate cons. There were weeks that I made over 3000. Usually averaged $2200. Gotta get the rate con!

@spoolinsvt6489 I just left in June. Had to move back home to take care of my mom. Got a different job now and make about $1900 a week. Unless you're a new driver, there's no reason to settle for 50k a year. Plenty of money out there still.
with 0.69$ i was doing just fine living in SOCAL but my company cut the rates recently to 0.65$ they also removed lay overs and detentions plus they removed “long time staying on road bonus”that they used to offer
I'm not as respectful as you. I'll name them, at TMC I was tired of making % at "$400-$500" loads.
Granted, they directly said we are lying to you. "We rate your load" (and we rate drivers). We pay you what we want is what it comes down to. I appreciate the honesty.

I worked for a shady food distribution company. Was supposed to get 50% of the back haul. That was the only percentage they did. The backhaul was in my scanner so i can see what it cost. It was more like 50% of 50% of 50%. Delivered in Baltimore on a Tuesday around 8am. They wanted me to wait til Thursday for a backhaul. It was always go run a route then come home. And they ripped me off on the backhauls. It was always only like 50 bucks. 50% of 5k is more than 50 bucks. I came back empty. Wasn't worth wasting my time for 50 bucks
i only look for companies that lets me going out for 3 week and take a week off

I got into this biz to be able to make a better living for my family but it ain't happening. I'm a year in and I am considering goin back to my old job and asking for a raise. I did roofing for 25 yrs with the same company and got underpaid but I was able to have a lot of time off to make money on other ventures. But I got really tired of the beating sun and the ice sheets on the roofs in winter. The first 20 yrs we always took atleast 2 months off in winter! Then boss man got a contract on new homes and it was steady work all year and I didn't like it! Too dangerous . Heat strokes and roofs u couldn't stand on due to ice. Greed kicked in and his son started hangin out, supposed to work but always bs around, and he had to make more money to give to his son so he could support his sons family. I should have started my own company as I was his best worker and knew all the procedures. Just couldn't figure out the paperwork.
My brother if you have driving experience find a local route company. A lot of roofing companies need drivers to deliver product on site. That’s where I’m at mon - Friday great pay home every night. I would never go Otr driving 🚛
Keep at it and get more experience. Always check your local market to get a feel for the pay and availability of driving jobs.

And he's a very brave and selfless man. Exposing corrupt Trucking companies is not like picking daisies. It takes a corrupt evil mindset to do what unsavory companies are doing.
In the United States I see many third-world drivers in companies that pay $0.56 a mile or less. Us companies like to advertise overseas and the result is you can pay them 8 to $0.10 less per mile all the while they think they're living a American dream.. you can see a lot of these new citizens struggling on the road due to their change in environment.
You should not be allowed in a truck.
When the 1st winds of winter started there were trucks all over the sides of the road in Nebraska, where it's straight and flat. I thought, yeah wait til you guys see your first snow! You know the owner just plugs in the gps and tells them to just set the cruise to 70 until it says stop. Then you see them using their phones to translate sign in sheets at shippers. Ali Baba muhammad swlong cum sum young guy never seen snow before and can't read signs.

I am not a trucker, (retired airline pilot) but watched this video, my neighbor is a lawyer who HATED sitting in an office and started OTR driving....but wanted to say this is.an excellent presentation...whoever helped you do the video is outstanding! I am a company, food grade tanker driver who currently receives 26% of the Line Haul. I’m currently on a run from Cincinnati, Ohio to Laredo, Texas. It’s 1,400 miles or 2,800 down and back. The LH is $7,623.00 x 26% = $1,981.98 (Gross Pay) / 2,800 miles = .70785 or .71 CPM. Percentage pay is OK, so long as the linehaul amount is adequate. LH = $7,623.00 / 2,800 miles = $2.7225 per mile!

I took my truck to a company that packs the trailer with the partials and supposedly u can make more gross. Well last trip they paid me for one of the partials 1300 which was okay. But when I got my trip report email they made an error and included the price they really got paid for that partial which was 2900..so they made more not doing anything off of that partial than I did hauling the load plus I still had to pay my dispatching fee on that 1300. They realized the mistake and sent me a new email with 1300 showing on it instead of the real price. Trucking companies ate shady and these people for most part treat me well, but this type of stuff is a huge red flag now I'm looking to take my truck somewhere else or best option open my own athourity and get my family member to learn dispatching because u can't compete with ppls gree who just looking for ways to fill their povkets
It may be also a mistake, you never know when the people manually introduce your load info in the statement😅
I work for percentage before, never again. Do not pay deadhead. No, detention, pay no Lay overpay. And you pay for the fuel. If the load pays 15 hundred, they take 600 of that for fuel. Then what's left over That's what your pay is based off of. Till this day, they start out 22% of the load. The highest you go 24%. Drop in hook. You pay them.
That company I work for before. They know how to scan the drivers.
Feel bad for the people getting taken advantage off… not all % of gross companies are bad tho…. Check with the company if they have dedicated runs and you will be more than happy… example: I’m getting 30% with 2.5 years exp and always get the rate con and can see with an app when my boss factors the load…. We have a route from WA to Orlando FL for $8,800 roughly 2900 miles, and a load coming from Miami back to Seattle for $8,000 and I’ll usually take something cheap from Orlando to Miami… usually about $17,500 for about 11 days of work and I’m off for 3 days at home.
$5,250 and when I check my miles for those miles it’s anywhere from .78 cents to .82 cents…
Guess just gotta find the right company…

@@nicureality1427 it’s reefer… -10 both ways but the load back from Miami has never been over 20k lbs which is nice for my boss since I’m getting 7+mpg on a 2014 cascadia 10 spd, but also nice for me to drive through places like WY.

Majority of companies I've looked at max out at 65 cpm. And start around 48 cpm for new drivers. For Flat Bed.
Not sure we’re you get your info. 4300 miles per week is easy to get. Especially if you do drop and hook and don’t sit around burning up your clock hanging at truck stops. Keep the door closed and make miles easily
IMO getting paid gross % is not a bad deal. But some companies will take out fuel surcharges,tolls,insurance,etc and call it the gross. Then pay u off that! Drivers,if u don't know what that truck is making u r likely getting cheated. Make sure u know before signing what u are getting paid
Wish ET had an IL terminal. Btw TMC has been on % pay since the 80’s. Getting ready to start to get back on road then go some where else also want to try both flatbed and reefer before I buy my truck
I see so many problems with those driver ads!!!!
1. 25% of the gross is bad enough, but that is only for loads you haul.
2. 28% of gross revenue, and who is paying the layover time? You are not home, and why should you give your personal time sitting at shipper, receiver, or any location such as a DOT check, and not be on the clock from the minute you get there until you leave, is bullshit.
3. Why are dry van and refers not billing detention time from the the driver arrives until tbey leave, especially when there is an appointment time?
4. Getting mileage pay or a percentage of the gross and not being guaranteed a minimum amount per week is WRONG!
A. All companies need to pay a basic amount to a driver everg week no matter what.
B. This would push companies to get good loads, cause shippers to pay better, have drivers receive original load sheets from companies and/or brokers, and reduce corruption in our industry.
5. Who is paying for the drivers meals, showers, motel/hotel if they are laying over for the night for a load?
6. Who is paying the driver for every mile he/she drives and not the miles the company feels they should pay for?

Trucking is a weird industry thats why the pay and consistency is so bad. It used to be the wild west anything goes, the stories older drivers told me you would definitely get your cdl revoked today.
The issue is government officials who have no experience trucking and they wont consult people who do. They make regulations that are ridiculous and nonsensical. That burn companies and drivers.

I just got offered .48 cents per mile to run from Flint MI to Laredo TX. NOPE! I have 4 years experience but the company I applied to has a high turn over rate.
Cpm is bad too. There are companies that will have you run shorthaul dedicated/contract accts on mileage. Those positions should be an hourly/daily rate/salary.
Watched a video about a LP’er from RTI claiming the office workers wouldnt give them a copy of their 2290 to switch carriers after they fired them. Just a perfect example of how even one of your employees… make it too easily predatory.
Another reason LP unfairly favors the employer is because just like that “percentage pay” you are arguing about. Is exactly what you are doing with your LP’ers. You dont have the responsibility to worry about hourly/salary or fair cpm. So when your dispatcher’s run me on your short haul contract’s on cpm… you win more and when your dispatcher’s run your LP’ers on the coast to coast on percentage LP-pay (how fair you think it is or not) you WIN again.. how convenient
And because of how long litigation takes. The best thing for govt to do is say.. NO LP’ers only lessor’s who finance privately through paccar/daimler or similar loan agreements. No 1099 company drivers only w-2. Employers w/certain amount of employees subject to union if employees want. Employer subject to unemployment. If the state decides the termination wasnt due to misconduct.
My friend uses a payroll company that services a major us fastfood business for 4 employees @$40/mo. On w-2. They take out the whole amount and do all the math/withholding. Any lessor with employees or trucking company can afford the same if my friend who cleans condo’s can.
But then business owners would have to be ReSpOnSiBle and decide every first three months of every new hire if they think they were “fit for the position” we all know they dont want to take accountability if they “change their mind”

Orr gross is crazy, some dirt haulers do stuff like that but not Orr. I did it once but it was seasonal and payed a lot. Made sense payed gross because the loads were like 5 miles round trip. We got 10$ a load avg out to mid $20s to low $30s depends on luck

I had a lease op company approach me for a job, keep in mind I have 11 entries in my DAC, 2 moving violations, and a not at fault accident, nobody and I mean no one will hire me, and I thought I take a stab at this, but when I got drug testing paperwork, it was under a different company name and DOT #, I'm not sure what to tell them, but I feel super uneasy.
11 entries for what? The only thing that matters is accidents and drugs. Everything else is irrelevant.
@@pointnIaugh You'd be surprised how many big corporate companies only read the DAC Report, US Express, Roehl, Schneider, Titus Transport, all of them flagged me because of it, even though the violations and accidents didn't go over their publicly set rules.
@@pointnIaugh Also I've got nothing to hide the company that made all of those entries was Abilene Motor Express out of Richmond, VA a lot were dump shit like their body shop not properly attaching components after my powered unit had to drive through a blizzard and parts were damaged while chained up pushing through snow drifts to safely exist the interstate, they don't care any damage to their equipment even by their shop was counted against me, incidents where the police ticketed the other driver, my company paid their claims, the insanity of it, and that people believe all of it is authentic because it comes from a corporate office blows me away. I'm finally scraping the bottom of the barrel with Knight Transportation and CR England and I have doubts about them too.
@Bentfrombeyond I've been a driver since 1994 and believe me, the companies that are hiring could careless about the slander that your previous company has to say. They know that it's slander. Companies are looking for drivers that they are able to qualify. In order to qualify a driver they must verify the last 3 years of employee, verify that the driver hasn't tested positive for drugs, or alcohol, have an acceptable driving record, and background check stuff. If they can do this, they will hire you. Just because your previous company said that you were a jerk means nothing.
@@pointnIaugh I'm only saying this because I was sent emails pertaining to only the DAC report, citing specific the amount entries, I spoke on the phone with a small company yesterday, and the safety officer literally told me there was too many entries in the report.

I agree average mileage per week should be 2200 miles to 3200 miles per week I been driving 23 years seen ads for 3,000 dollars a week I lol on that average pay for truck driver after taxes around 1650 per week on a good week
If they're promising miles, then arrange a salary, so you won't have headaches with layovers, rates and all that, piece of mind for everyone.

I got into a local company get paid by the hour with overtime after 8 hours some of the routes pay for 8 hours even if you do the run under 8 hours
In my opinion trucking will need to be a gig based system where drivers put themselves on a board for jobs and provide their service to highest bidder when needed. Company provides equipment and fuel and job is within a certain radius of your town or city. Therefore we can see what the job will pay and if we are wiling to take it.
Company driving is just not a long-term carrier for anyone who wants a life outside work. And freedom to pursue other passions in life.
Long story short, avoid working for a 'company' that leads a hand-to-mouth existence, with the pay being a percentage of what the company can pick up for the load, and leaves the payroll admin to you by (mis)classifying you as a 1099 employee.
Any company worth serious consideration has to offer a host of long-term benefits, such as PTO, a decent health insurance package, achievable safety and performance benefits, and most of all, a 401k. If they don't, what they are looking for is a seat filler to throw in that cab, and nothing more.
Oh yeah, nice if the have a yearly boot allowance. That's how you can tell the wheat from the chaff.
I get 75c and 25 dollars each stop. Coast to coast, dryvan. 12 days out. Then rest as long as I want.
1999 i got 30 percent truck got 202.50 a load local 5 loads a day start at 6 done by 1 most times done by 11. Phoenix to fontana round trip 500 on 625 miles load pipe out and rebar back. 3 day a week. I also drove the brokers truck. My best month i did 10000 dollars net my average month was 6500 remember that was back in the late 90s . Let that sink in.

ive thought about driving trucks in the US. but the risks of that job are huge. I wouldnt take any trucking job that pays shit. i need general pay, and risk bonus. i would say $50k a month minimum as an O/D. and $15 - $20k a month as a company driver.
This channel specializes in dry van and refer, which explains why there is a dislike for percentage pay. For tanker, cattle, and even flatbed, depending on the route of the company, percentages may be better than mile pay. Personally, if I were running a tanker and getting paid per mile, I would quit from the beginning. We run short runs but the load pays well (Bayer). It all depends on the circumstances.

Well fuck, we're getting paid 46 cents a mile CAD in the Maritimes, 56 cents USD would be a blessing for me.
You missed a couple of things. Number one is that the company may not pay well or have good benefits. Number two could be that the company is having issues with dispatcher’s or maintenance. And the third option could be one that the company is restructuring or has been sold in drivers got scared.
38 yrs plus never work for percentage always get paid by the mile loaded and empty practical miles only

Well $1.80 is spot market rate there is above .70 c per mile difference in contract freight and spot I believe you can make really good at 28% if company is honest

That all depends on the work involved. At the job I'm currently at I haul new auto parts to assembly. I only touch the steering wheel and back door, swap trailers, and I'm loaded within 20 min of my arrival, so that's different pay from someone binding, tarping and scaling steeling in the elements that just started in the industry (like myself as a rookie) but I have 29 years in now.
I'd never take a job unless it was paid by the hour with ovetime. By the mile is bullshit unless you're paid by hub miles and not PC miler.
I pay 25% because my rate per mile is 5.00- 5.50 but the milage is around 200 a day so my driver makes more on percentage than milage
So, you keep 3/4 of the rate, I hope you pay ALL expenses including tags, ifta, fuel, maintenance, insurance, ect. Or you need to go on a diet, I'm sure you're getting fat setting on your ass.
It's still low pay for CDL driver ,250 a day

I didn't think so, if you think it's easy running a trucking company and juggling bills and expense you should start one and hire a bunch of drivers and pay them what you think they should be paid, I'll wait until I see your business in bankruptcy court and ask ya how it all went so good for you and your business,
What du you haul for that freight rate ?
@mattyp3860 I have a contract with a local food production farm. Due to proprietary infringement clauses I can not disclose the business name, or exactly what I haul for them. The rates are higher because they are shorter trips usually with multiple drops anywhere from 2-4 drops within a 100 mile radius, some trips are a bit longer but usually not much on average my 2 trucks run around 200 miles a day.
Brokers needs to be limited to ONLY taking 3% of what the shippers pay for the load. Progressive insurance is 2800.00 per truck. They're all robbing the truckers.
Don't haul anything for anyone unless you know what the true rate is. Let it sit.
It's funny how there is drivers out there that don't even agree with this, and think experienced drivers are wanting to much. There is plenty of local jobs here over 2,000 a week, why would someone want to go over the road and not make a substantial amount more for wasting their precious life away.. I was making .50 cpm 10 years ago. Everything has doubled tripled and more, but not our pay, so as the years go on, it's less and less worth driving over the road. If you really divide the hours we work, the hours we sit ect, or the hours we are gone and don't get to use our own toilet, hug our kids, enjoy our homes every day. We make less than minimum wage, for what? We only have 1 life, yes everyone's time is valuable. I've seen flatbed jobs as low as .37 you are out your mind. 50-55, and now they took perdiem from company drivers wtf? We work 2 full times jobs and get taxed twice as much for it, and government doesn't want to give us major tax breaks, that's dumb.
So glad I get paid by the hour and even get ot after 40hr 😊
Cent per mile is just one way. % of gross allows you to win when it’s up and lose as a team.
That system would never work. Unless you have access to the rate conformation. That's as sneaky and greedy as most brokers are. My fuel and maintenance ran on average 55%, so if you still have all the other cost to bear, you're broke.
And if it says fill out application today will drive tomorrow or says we treat you like family 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Bison pays me .45 cents a mile. Pay days aren’t the best

I am a driver who stays out and I can very easily run 4000 miles a week by running my 70 out and resetting 70 out and resetting consistently. I run hard but yet I have not found a company yet who will give me an average of 12,000 miles a month find me one and I’ll be happy

Is possible. I did but going to west when is long trips but you can't do every week you get very tired I did but after I was dead taking like 2 or 3 days after running 3 weeks doing that and that 4 or 4 days de not count the 36h reset. So on the end you will not do 4300. Is more like 3600

Ronan tell what you pay, I bet you are just like the other big carriers convincing other drivers. However when a trucking company pays me by the hour for every hour I am physically doing some work for it that will be a change. Farmer's pay more than companies by the hour...

The people that go OTR for anything less than .75 cents a mile blows my mind. Even then , that is not enough. You got people willing to spend 3 - 4 weeks away from their home, their family, their pets, their belongings and do it for 75-90k a year. YOU CAN GET THAT LOCALLY. Sorry but if im expected to be that long away from family I wouldnt consider it unless it was paying 150k. Not trying to disrespect anyone but damn, know your worth.
I started trucking in 2004 cpm was 32. Some guys were making 25. Cpm w.t.f 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
