Oh god you're so right. Thinking about how the Mario and Luigi remakes released late in the 3DS lifespan and how that worked out for AlphaDream- we gotta come with the numbers for these 2
Both of those remakes were released on the 3DS well after the Switch was already out. So they're not the same situation.
But even if it was, the sales of the remakes was not the reason the company closed down. One of the main criticisms/concerns for AlphaDream was their inability to make 3D graphics on their own. The reason they made those remakes, instead of transitioning to the Switch, was because they didn't have the ability or resources to make a Switch game. They were, unfortunately, a studio whose days were always numbered.

I hope Mario RPG and TTYD don't negatively affect each other's sales. Both are important in different ways, and it's pretty strange Nintendo is releasing them so close together (but you don't see me comparing) Thousand Year Door selling well is an essential requirement in order for the next Paper Mario not to have a super annoying and gimmicky battle system so I too need it to happen
what they could do is release Super Mario RPG and The Thousand Year Door long apart from eachother
ive heard Super Mario RPG is an easy game so releasing it first could get more people hooked by the time they release The Thousand Year Door
If TTYD remake was releasing this year along with Mario RPG then I could see where your coming from, but we essentially don't have an official date for TTYD yet. All we know is that it's coming in 2024, which imo is enough time for both games to shine and do well without affecting each others sales.
@@battlesofparadise TTYD was first released in July 2004, so they might release it on 20 year anniversary. So maybe July.

Absolutely agree! I have plans to buy both Mario RPG and TTYD for both myself and a friend. I NEED this to succeed, I've been missing classic Paper Mario for over 15 years now. This game is one of the best things that Nintendo has ever put out. The reception that this announcement has had is making me so hopeful. I hope Nintendo can gleam some information from the fact that the announcement left so many people shaking and in tears (In a very good way).
I'm not even a gamer these days and it's this important to me.

I hope they add stronger fighters in the Glitz Pit after you finish the game, as something to do when you completed the main story, besides pit of 100 trials
Half the reason I even bought a switch was for PM Origami. I don't even know how many times I have started to play it, get bored, and quit. This release will make up for it tenfold.

I’ve wanted to play TTYD for a little while now. after hearing several RUclipsrs I like talk so highly about it, I really hope I like it. It looks so GOOD! Definitely buying this.😃

I'm excited. I never played paper mario before, I've only seen gameplay on youtube. Sure there are the recent ones but like I want what people want. Looking at paper mario it just looks so fun and nostalgic. Definitely going to buy it when it comes out.
The game came out in July 22, 2004. Next year will be 2024 witch mean Thousand Year Door will turn 20 YEARS OLD. Coincidence?

I hope people buy this game not only because it would mean a bright future for new Paper Mario games, but also because I think this remake is a testament to Nintendo listening to their audience. Straight up, this remake wouldn't have even been considered by Nintendo if the fan outcry hadn't been as strong as it was. Just looking at the trailer, you can tell the game was made out of pure love to satisfy a very niche portion of their overall fanbase, and THAT is something that should absolutely be rewarded in this industry.
Buying this game to finally kill the Sticker Star era once and for all.
I'm preordering as soon as i can. I'm also currently trying to get my friends to buy a copy as well. Some won't listen, but I'll keep tugging on them to buy it. And if they don't, I'll save up enough money to buy it for them.
A silly idea if you ask me if you just want the sales to increase why not just buy multiple copies and keep them somewhere no use in buying copies for people who don't want to play it
I’m definitely gonna buy it! Whilst I played TTYD via an emulator (mainly due to it being pretty expensive to buy online) I got up to the 5th chapter and wasn’t able to finish the game as I ended up having issues with the emulator so I’m very tempted to just wait until this comes out so I can play it on the switch.
So, I'm in an interesting position. I grew up playing Super Paper Mario on the Wii. The weird middle child that has the stories we love with the modern gimmicks most dislike. I've been wanting to play TTYD SOOOO BAAAD, but never could thanks to scarcity and scalpers. I was beyond ecstatic when this was revealed, because now I can finally play what is debatably the best Mario game, Mario being my favorite series of well, anything. I'm definitely getting this day one (especially how much I've been enjoying PM64), and this will definitely be a go-to gift for friends and family that love video games as much as I do.
I desperately want this to do well because no joke, I once borrowed Oragami King from my cousin, played off and on until I got to the pencil fight, and I never bought it after that because I wasn't having any fun. Wrap your head around that. A Mario game that isn't fun (to me at least.).
This is the #1 remake i have been waiting for, i could cry!
I'll be getting two copies at least, that way I can keep a sealed copy.

I can’t believe some people actually say this game is not worth it. They whine and cry about the game being full price when it’s a REMAKE of one of the greatest rpgs of all time WITH ADDED CONTENT!
You just willed Paper Mario: Clay Calamity into existence! Haha I am definitely buying this release no matter what, the announcement got me to go set up an emulator on my Steam Deck as well, and the game still looks beautiful.
I think the only thing that could've made this better would be if there was a remake of the original paper mario included with this, but this is still amazing to see.
So this is the first game I'll ever buy for myself, and then also buy for everyone else I think should try it.
I'm gonna buy two copies, one digital, one cartridge, and I'll tell EVERYONE to buy a copy for themselves, AT LEAST! I also plan on making monthly tiktoks reminding people to buy the game. honestly agree with everything that was said, it would be bad if this is released after the Switch 2 is announced before hand as that would hurt it's potential sales but I believe that it'll sell great regardless. here's hoping.
This game had my money the instant it was revealed. As a kid I only played up until Hooktail and never got further.
When this releases it will break records left and right. What we really need is a ultimate paper edition

I'm buying it day 1. I plan to get both digital and physical once they both eventually get release dates. I've done that with Pikmin 1&2 and Metroid Prime: Remastered. Gotta support these GC remakes/ports so we can get more of them. Hoping for F-Zero GX or Windwaker next.

if you really want to vote with your wallet its better do convince other people to buy it. That way the community gets a louder voice and you won't be broke because the series just went through a "dark era"
I will be buying it. This game is my favorite game of all time! In fact, just last month I created portal/ttyd mashup designs for my first ever tattoos. My only hesitation recommending it to my nieces and nephews is the Vivian storyline. I will play it first before recommending it for children.
Notice that the trailer doesnt have a switch logo. It might not be on the switch but on its sequel system. Alternatively, it might be on both systems.

I saw the announcemenr and thought "cool, but i have the original, maybe if get on sale i buy" then i realized how important the sales number is for the franchise future. Going to use those voucher to get on day 1.
Altought the release date may be worrying, all franchises on Switch broke records. Even with Swicht 2 almost here I believe it will sell enough. At least more than the original release.
Plus, hopefully the next console will have retro-compatibility

I'm already playing through 64 in preparation, I just beat the weird grey shy guy in the tox box area.
I'm probably not going to buy it myself, although I do love TTYD. It's my favorite Mario RPG. Problem is... I still have it. I can fire up my old Gamecube disc whenever I want. 60 dollars is a big ask for what amounts to little more than a graphical improvement.
I'm planning to buy it for any of my friends who asks.
Going to get TTYD and SMRPG. Mario has booked the wishlist folks.

Paper Mario TTYD is my favorite mario game out of them all. I DO NOT buy games brand new. I always wait till they are out a while and pick up used ones. I will buy this one new. Hands down.

I was late to paper Mario which I am ashamed to admit, origami king was my first on switch. I really enjoyed it apart from the combat. So I went back to the first on n64 and was blown away. Finding out about TTYD being the best I really wanted to play it, so for it to be remade for the switch I cannot wait for it, it will be a day one purchase for me and I will be encouraging all my friends to buy it aswell!! Bring on 2024. Until then we have Mario RPG 💪🏻

You should buy ths game not just because it's good, but because you want to send Nintendo the right message. Hopefully they'll rectify the mario rpg's deviance there's been the last few years.

Honestly I now this game will sale well and I think I will be a launch title/cross-gen game form the switch and switch 2 just like they did for breath of the wild to get people to buy the new switch

The first one is likely the second one will only happen if Nintendo is willing to make mario and luigi games as it was alphadream who made those not nintendo

I believe the best case scenario is that if TTYD does well (and it needs to) the future games will be a perfect blend of Classic and Modern Paper Mario.
If it doesn't do well it means that all the complaints from old fans for the past 11 (16 if you don't like Super) will be for nothing and that they won't put their money where their mouths are.
I'm glad that at least someone else out there thinks Modern Paper Mario fans are valid, way too many times I've seen them be written off as dumb kids.
TTYD remake needs to sell 5 million plus, no excuses. If the next system is backwards compatible that's a huge W because it'll still give people a reason to buy it.

Untrue. Fans of the classic games wanted an actual new game in that style, not just the same game sold back to them again. Some of us don't like buying the same games over and over again, lol. If it underperforms, it'll just be another case of game execs not giving fans what they actually want.
@@xxProjectJxx I swear people were wanting a HD remaster or remake of TTYD. While I understand not everyone is on board with buying the same game again I think this is a special case, I'm absolutely certain this will effect the next game and the future of the series if it's very successful.
I hope this opens the door for N64 & super to be remade. 64 probably won't become it's on nso but super🤞🏻

I don’t see how trying to ensure that could be considered complaining in any way tho. It’s a video raving about my excitement and saying “I hope this does really well”.

I’m working on an AC video that’ll drop in the next week or two, but like I said my most recent one, I feel like complaining about NH is largely redundant for me at this point. ACNH’s content ending naturally meant less to talk about, which gave me a great opportunity to transition into more general content, which I wanted to do for a long time anyway.
I get that there’s still demand for Animal Crossing videos though, and I appreciate that! They’re still coming, just not as frequently as at New Horizons’ peak.

I have a feeling that the Switch 2 or whatever it's going to be will be backwards compatible... well, I'm hoping it is. That way, even if we are at the end of the switch's life, it won't matter because people can still play the Thousand Year Door on the new console, besides from the stuff that was shown in the Nintendo Direct it looks pretty finished I'm kind of hoping it comes out around April or May.
I would love to buy both Super Mario RPG and Thousand Year Door remakes but the biggest problem for me is that both cost like $60

I'm hoping that TTYD's ambiguous release time-frame is due to it being planned as a launch title for the Switch's successor. Of course, that means that we have to wait longer, but it would give the game the opportunity to shine that it looks like it will deserve.
