I played a mark V and a lone star yesterday. The Lone Star's cleans were the perfect marriage of that vintage clean that doesn't get too piercing. For instance, my strat and tele's bridge pickups force me to change the clean settings on my Express 2:25. But these two amps together are obviously just awesome.
The funny thing is, I'm not a big fan of vintage Fender and Marshall amps (obviously there's nothing wrong with them, they just don't feel like "me"), but the Lone Star and Stiletto are obvious homages to them, and I would absolutely stand in front of both of them on stage with pride.
@Machine1 He uses two vintage Electro Harmonix Memory Man Deluxe pedals with one set at 350 ms delay and the other set at 500 ms delay along with the chorus on. I am pretty sure these are the settings.
I agree with ericprsse. The Lonestar has that nice clean tone while the Stiletto has a more immediate and aggressive distortion tone with lots of bite and edge. Mesa boogie needs to introduce yet another amp sharing both these attributes in one amp.
@hawg427 -- I personally own the Lonestar combo, they switch between 100, 50 and 10 watts. You can definitely hear a difference especially when you crank them up, the mids and treble shine at the 10 watts settings, very clear and articulate, the 100 watt is boomy, but punchy. 50 is kinda midsy and bassy but not really a halfway between the two.
I might be in the minority here but I prefer the lead tone of the Lone Star more than the Stiletto (I used to own a 2x12 Sti) because my ears always lean towards a liquid smooth lead tone without too much bite. Compare the tone at 2:25-2:33 to 2:47-2:55 for a clear difference.
wow man, such a amazing sound....these amps are priceless, before when you wanted such a sound, you had to spend a lot more for all kinds of effects with expensive amp...
I had read onn the Mesa website that the clean tone from the Stiletto was that Pristine clean. But your video sounded clean to me. I like the EL-34 sound better. Does the Lone Star have a switchable power like from 50 watts down to 5 like the Mesa Express 5:50 Combo? Also how much difference in tone will I get if I get a Mesa Combo than a Mesa Head? @hawg427 The head and combo arent that different if you get a lonestar cab for the head. Andy uses a rectifier cab with his head, definitely a fatter, warmer but tighter sound. I personally prefer the lonestar cab (my mix would be the lonestar 4x10 with the rectifier 2x12 if I had the head) . Hope this helps, I'll be glad to help in any way I can, best of luck ~ PilotSSW
Not that he needs a better tone, but his tone really improved when he went to Mesa from Laney (I think that was what he used before). The new amps make his notes sound more alive, the Mesas really have a quick attack I really like. Speaking of making amps with best of both, it will be difficult to get EL34 to sound very direct or 6L6 very thick. And if they do make it happen, it's like making your own amps obsolete. Unless ur very particular (or rich) Get a do-it-all like Mk V or something.
He uses 2 EH memory man pedals.he doesn't use chorus though; doing subtle vibrato while using delay (especially with 2 of varying time) will produce beautiful natural chorus sound. Try it :) Chech out his whole rig video to see him demonstrate it. I'm guessing that's where you got it.
LoneStar is the best 2-channel amp ever (for my taste). The most crystal cleans along with the fattest leads I've ever heard... and that's why I ended up buying this fella. :-) If Mesa released a 3-channel amp containing the 2 LoneStar channels, and adding a 3rd one with the tonal characteristics of a Marshall JTM-45 for instance (or a Mesa Electradyne if you prefer), then this would be the absolute "I can do it all by myself" amp. Till then, living with the 2 channels of the LS is still great!
@sebace MESA BOOGIE RULES!! Randall Smith, and the BOOGIE team are Artistic TONE engineers. Just look inside any Mesa, and you will see Quality, high end components, and "built like a Brick Shit House "workmanship" It is hard to find any Mesa amp that has a bad sound in them. There is an amp for any application, My setup is a MESA Quad running through a SIMUL Class 295 Power Amp. In that I have 50 years of Grammy winning tone! I love Mesa, and can see how some people are addicted to them!

Both sound awesome, but I like the Lone Star . It has the Fender Twin mojo sound . I am a believer. must get the lone star.

@rodrigozamo If you could build an amp with 6L6's and EL-34's, that would be possible, but due to size/weight limitations, it's not practical.
