What a fantastic and articulate job he does explaining and demonstrating his setup. A great watch, even for the non musician like myself..fascinating stuff...
I love how every single square inch of his fret board is worn. Usually with most guitarists, you'll see the wear marks on a few "favorite" locations, but not Andy. He uses EVERYTHING.
I have his pickup config in my American Strat Deluxe FSR Aztec Gold with Goncalo Alves Custom Shop Neck. The pickups are amazing! I use a Tech 21 Fy Rig RK5 for the clean sound, which emulates the Mesa Lonestar Clean channel relatively close, and I use the Visual Sound Open Road and Son Of Hyde for different Gain Box tones along with the OMG on the Fly Rig. For me it's the closest Ive gotten to Andy Timmons tone with a direct to house unit that is easy on the travel! Give the Tech 21 Fly Rig RK5 a try and you wont be disappointed! It's ANALOG!!! Andy Timmons has the tone of tones in my opinion! Love it!
Man...what can you say? Analyze his gear to get the exact tones he wants. His tone is so rich and not harsh in harmonics its like butter. Also add to that freedom of improvisations and awesome phrasing and note choices. Not being technical for the sake of technicality. In my opinion the best guitarist in the world.
I've never been into the who uses what thing. But Andy T is the god of tone. It's funny because he refers to the Hendrix and SRV sound; yet his own sound is in MY OPINION vastly superior.
I agree with Timmons I always was an analog delay and chorus man just the sound is more original and to me more of a richer liquid. sound .I started out on memory man effects when they first come out advertised in the back of a magazine .the small stone , memory man has been around before I drove a car that's old! still great pedals!
going out to ciscotronico and their question as to why there are 2 black sticks on the memory man delays???????? andy has said in other interviews that his guitar tech designed these for andy to be able to use while performing. they are long so andy can use his foot to tap them in either direction......... (hope this scratches ur itch?) lol
@locoboxspaceship I have the lonestar, I'm saving for that stiletto and possibly a mark V or rectifier, god love the mesa tone, especially in Andy's hands! ~ Sean
Love this guy. I don't love what JHS did with their Angry Charlie. I mean... he's using a BB Preamp here...gee i wonder what the JHS pedal is a clone of... it's either the BB or the MI Audio Effects Crunch Box...
I want a Lonestar. Can someone tell me if that two delays are set in line or in parallel? Sorry for my english. With one delay after other the last would reapeat the eco from the other one?
As an avid player, I like AT as a player better than EJ...just the attack and attidue is more in line than my own compositional perspective. Both world class players. Andy Timmons is the most underated great player in the world today
@locoboxspaceship Just got the stiletto, its worth it, by far, I think I actually prefer the stiletto to lonestar to be honest, but that could just be new amp honeymoon ;)
Does Andy use the reverb from the amps? I can't tell if thats just the decay from the delay or a combo of both? It sounds like there is a little reverb in there but he doesn't talk about it.
I met Andy Timmons about two years ago. He gave me some tips on how to replicate his tone. I've been able to do so, for the most part. Check out my channel to hear my tone.
That is not true. My ibanez gets the fattest warmest tone as well as telecaster twang. I also get more tone complements now that I've been using an S prestige, opposed to when I was playing a Les Paul. Most (not all) of the tone comes from the fingers anyways. So, Quit blaming your guitar for bad tone. I've hear some killer players get great tone out of squire bullet.
I'm surprised Andy and EJ use these Deluxe Memory Man. They are so noisy/hum... Andy he uses two! Haha They sound so good, but mask your sound with an awful hum. I can get away with it in the studio, but live it's too much of a pain in the ass.
What a fantastic and articulate job he does explaining and demonstrating his setup. A great watch, even for the non musician like myself..fascinating stuff...
That is one of the most incredible sounding tones I've ever heard coming from those chords and solo from 4:30 to 4:50!
I love how every single square inch of his fret board is worn. Usually with most guitarists, you'll see the wear marks on a few "favorite" locations, but not Andy. He uses EVERYTHING.

Fantastic musician and just simple man. Amazing
Awesome! This is THE modern guitar tone of the 21st century.
i bet this video sells amps like crazy for mesa,a clean tone to die for .sweeeeet!
his tone is sexy....the best tone i've ever heard
I've never been into the who uses what thing. But Andy T is the god of tone. It's funny because he refers to the Hendrix and SRV sound; yet his own sound is in MY OPINION vastly superior.
rarely do players go into such detail as to their 'secret' tone... thank you, andy for this.
The biggest takeaway I got from the interview was his setup of two memory mans in the effects loop set at roughly 500 and 350 ms...
The GCX switches multiple pedals at once. So you can turn them on or off by stepping on your midi board only once.
Greatest tone ever.
"It doesn't really crap out..." Hahahahahahahahaha!
yes Timmonsec yes man! I'm a fan of Andy Timmons ... Greetings
How many Mesa Boogie were sold with this video ? I'am the first lol... And i have no regret.
Andy has some of the greatest guitar sounds I've ever heard. My opinion of course.....
I agree with Timmons I always was an analog delay and chorus man just the sound is more original and to me more of a richer liquid. sound .I started out on memory man effects when they first come out advertised in the back of a magazine .the small stone , memory man has been around before I drove a car that's old! still great pedals!
His tone is godly!
Andy: just fucking give it a name. Don't worry about the Hound. He's a h8r m8r.
notice his overdrive pedal is like mine. missing knobs!! awesome!!
@emersonluizdossantos it's the "blend" knob, not "delay time"... It's so unusual!
going out to ciscotronico and their question as to why there are 2 black sticks on the memory man delays???????? andy has said in other interviews that his guitar tech designed these for andy to be able to use while performing. they are long so andy can use his foot to tap them in either direction......... After 4:31 I could never use a digital delay ever again.
if they ever need an advert for the bb pre amp it should be 6.22
from the moment he starts playing it just sounds like magic
He is very inspiring.
This is THE tone!!
@ciclosonico It´s some kind of " bar " to change the time with your feet ...
Love this guy.
I don't love what JHS did with their Angry Charlie. I mean... he's using a BB Preamp here...gee i wonder what the JHS pedal is a clone of... it's either the BB or the MI Audio Effects Crunch Box...
thnx so much for uploading this
fantastic
@meta1983 thats because Andy uses mesa and he uses it correctly he knows how to make that thing sond great and then he plays great..
I love mesa.
Can somebody please tell me what are the strange black "hooks" set on the BLEND knob of both MemoryMan? thx
does anyone know why there are these two handles on the delay knobs? I guess they are for setting BLEND by foot, am I right? they are on BLEND knobs
Interesting delat time choices. The ratio strikes me as reminiscent of The Edge.
@ciclosonico ahn ,, you´re right ,.. but it´s to change with his feet.. OK .
Nice Andy . . .
6:22 Yeeaaaahhhh toneeee.
Anyone notice that the thumbnail of this vid looks like one of those "look out, we've got badass over here" memes?
I want a Lonestar. Can someone tell me if that two delays are set in line or in parallel? Sorry for my english. With one delay after other the last would reapeat the eco from the other one?
8:25 is just glorious!
Andy, I've seen you use a AxeFx units but have you ever played with the new Kemper Profile Amp? If so, your Two Cents?
As an avid player, I like AT as a player better than EJ...just the attack and attidue is more in line than my own compositional perspective. Both world class players. Andy Timmons is the most underated great player in the world today
@mr4y I think some people find 'Clean' too sterile. Needs some character. But yea, I see where you're coming from.
seen eric johnson and andy play..have to say Andy's new tone w/ the lonestar was a little superior..both great though!
I think he meant how he was running his signal to the amp.
that is right man!!
@Gynormagantuan It's obviously a very different tone, unfair to compare them (but yeah, I agree, it is a whole lot better)
Does Andy use the Road King cabs with the 1/2 open back?
Does anyone knows what's the music he Andy plays at 7:00 ? Thanks!
is it normal if I get loud buzz when I set my lonestar to his lead channel settings?
@meta1983 erics style is so much more unique but andy is great aswel
Does anybody know if Andy sets his amp at:
6L6 or EL34?
Silicon or Rectifier?
Found on the back of the amp.
I think he must have gone all nuts... so there'd be plenty to go around, I suppose. ;)
Budda Wah is a great wahwah pedal. I tried it few months ago and I'll buy it soon or later, for now I have my Cry Baby that's not that bad..
agree 100%
tonegasm
I ave a DMM and I chain it with the wacky Ekko 616 more analog than DMM
@locoboxspaceship Just got the stiletto, its worth it, by far, I think I actually prefer the stiletto to lonestar to be honest, but that could just be new amp honeymoon ;)
Does Andy use reverb??? He never talked about it! Thank you.
SuperHotrod4 only delays
at is the man
@112358miau why would you want that? just buy a digital delay that has many timings and that's it
little EJ technique there at 5:40
Does Andy use the reverb from the amps? I can't tell if thats just the decay from the delay or a combo of both? It sounds like there is a little reverb in there but he doesn't talk about it.
SuperHotrod4 only delays
SuperHotrod4 he uses two together
There called Tru ore true temperment
problem?
that's called true temperament ;)
Anyone know what amp he used before mesa boogie?
Dalton Heitmann it was a Laney i think
Moltisanti thanks!
I see Tortex Jazz H3
el tono que saca, conchesumadre, se paso
A W S O M E
I met Andy Timmons about two years ago. He gave me some tips on how to replicate his tone. I've been able to do so, for the most part. Check out my channel to hear my tone.
That is false. I own a Ibanez JS 6000 ('94 I think) and it sounds amazing.
neck pick-up suond like fender!
I love Eric Johnson's tone... However I still think andy has better tone, well at least for me.
I See Tortex Jazz H3. O.O

240p video - "best tone ever". Huh...
I'm surprised Andy and EJ use these Deluxe Memory Man. They are so noisy/hum... Andy he uses two! Haha They sound so good, but mask your sound with an awful hum.
I can get away with it in the studio, but live it's too much of a pain in the ass.
and still no gear
maybe clean as in no pedal perhaps??? that's how i see it.....to me.....there's no such thing as a clean sound......dont know why.......
