We can all learn so much from Andy Timmons - tone - phrasing - melody - gaps, speed - slow passages - it's the mixture of texture that makes his playing so memorable.
I sat next to Andy a few years ago in an airplane. Chatted with him for a few hours throughout the journey. Very friendly person indeed. He gave me his tiny black pick and his brand new CD.
Andy Timmons is great, I'm a HUGE John Petrucci fan and I've seen live people like Steve Vai and Paul Gilbert live, and so far the guitarist I think has played in a more soulful way really feeling his music is Andy Timmons. Eyes closed lots of the time and moving his body flowing with the music, simply great, and he seems to be a very down to earth and nice guy instead of a guitar playing diva like others...
I have been playing for quite a few years now, and thus I have been researching guitarists for a long time. Andy Timmons is by far one of my favorites. He has the best tone I have ever heard, and I don't care what anyone says, he is one of the most amazing players around. He can shred when he wants to.
He's such an amazing player, it's impossible to say how much he has influenced me. Even his soloing on the danger danger stuff is so incredible. And he's such a great guy too.
@TouchingYou A true guitarist loves the way a guitar looks without having to add to it. I LOVE the way my GUITAR looks, not a bunch of shit I put on it. You show your CREATIVITY in your playing, not what your guitar looks like.
He used to be in a band called Danger Danger. It's a late 80's early 90's glam metal band. Very good songs. I suggest you listen to some of their stuff.
ibanez rx series.... i have one, my first guitar... i love it alot... i saw andy in fort dodge guitar clinic in 1996, he made me a better player... i was 12 at the time, and he changed my fuckin life!
dimarzio Cruiser is a single coil voiced humbucker. I think that is what he meant by that. Also i think i heard that he originally recorded Resolution CD with either Marshall JVM or JMP. Now he gets his tone through Mesa Lonestar and Stiletto
This is a great video, unfortunately it 'jumps' at some point in the middle...does anybody know when it came to be and in which edition of the mag was it featured?
@ShadowLancer128 Mate, i'm pretty sure the AT-100 was the original; The 200 and 300 came a few years after. And the trem on this guitar is a Wilkinson, He hasn't used an edge type bridge since his days in Danger Danger and early solo career.
The guitar isn't a Strat - it's an Ibanez (strat style but with all hum-buckers). Also, the amps he used to record the album were Marshalls. You can see it in one of his RUclips videos.
@yobhsiFehT I hear you man and I think I agree about 50% because he does the melodic stuff incredibly well. But I do have to admit it's fun to hear him just rip it up sometimes too
I thought the same way you did when he said that. I don't think he meant 'silly' in a mean way though. By 'silly ' he may have meant 'anything that came to my mind'.
Satriani SHOWED all these guys how to play! Joe EVEN helped Kirk with soloing ideas by steering him in the right direction to take with each song esp. on Master of Puppets. Kirk will openly admit this himself. Vai, is just a freak....that Satriani helped make
@SLee1337 nice point my man. but on this particular song I only hear hendrix style. And maybe 500 years later, hendrix will be inspiring just like every famous classical composer.
Anyone who says someone is better than another is not a real musician or knows nothing about guitarists. It's ok to have an opinion but its all just a matter of taste really. Satraini has written so many beautiful songs its kinda hard to say he's behind anyone.
This song could hardly be more beautiful. I wish more of his stuff was just kinda' straight and melodic like this instead of sounding like he's trying to catch up w/ Satriani or E.J.:\ Maybe that's not a fair assessment, but I think most of you out there know what I mean. Fantastic talent either way.
@vinnilband it was a joke in the context of the scene he was creating for us.. its kind of like watching a fat person walk down the street and then someone playing a tuba sound to mimick their walking.... andy is cool down to earth and most likely meant no offense to jobim... that been said i think the stuff IS "silly" but i can say that since i'm not a well known anybody and can say whatever the hell i want.. ;)
i didn't say satriani is better than him, all satch's student got better than him especially steve vai and kirk hammet or maybe even friedman, we must admit that great guitarists like timmons will reach this greatness without satiani's help watch their guitar showdown, satriani and timmons the mentor vs the student
well that isnt true, it isnt plagiarising, its borrowing elements from influences and building upon them, timmons is an amalgation of his own influences, and he has done fine in carving out his own sound and way of playing
andy timmons has a unique way of phrasing, one that is instantly recognisable and very emotive, so yes he is innovative in his own little way. i dont think the guy(andy timmons) cares about his look, just his music, and so it should be, its pretty amusing that you are disparaging a musician based on their equipment and look!
sorry if i can't make my point as clear as it should be, what i'm really saying is, yes maybe all of satriani's students is better than him now, but without satriani's help, maybe they won't play this good,, sorry bout my diction, i'm a filipino, i'm working on it
We can all learn so much from Andy Timmons - tone - phrasing - melody - gaps, speed - slow passages - it's the mixture of texture that makes his playing so memorable.
And hes such a good Kind man
I sat next to Andy a few years ago in an airplane. Chatted with him for a few hours throughout the journey. Very friendly person indeed. He gave me his tiny black pick and his brand new CD.
How does this only have 7000 plays?... should be like 7,000,000..
You are a guitar god andy!!
Damn that is still so good after all these years!
Andy Timmons is great, I'm a HUGE John Petrucci fan and I've seen live people like Steve Vai and Paul Gilbert live, and so far the guitarist I think has played in a more soulful way really feeling his music is Andy Timmons.

This stuff moves me! I love this style of playing because it reflects myself as well since I also write tunes that are similar to his style.
Simple is always made beautiful in the mind of a genius

Andy's a cool guy who just happens to be outstanding on guitar. He seems like such a mellow, laid back dude. Right on!
- Wulf

I SO love this tune, I discover it (and Andy) because it was the background music from Mesa Boogie website...
dang dude. you hit it on right on the mark

hey Andy, you have been talking about that CD for 3 years, its time to get a new one out!
That guy came from heaven
love this song. the main riff is very mike einziger-ish, especially when he plays it in fourths.
I love that song Andy you are a fantastic musician.
ibanez rx series.... i have one, my first guitar... i love it alot... i saw andy in fort dodge guitar clinic in 1996, he made me a better player... i was 12 at the time, and he changed my fuckin life!
i didn't know you could actually fit that many springs in a guitar. 0.o AWESOME GUITARIST BEST EVER

dimarzio Cruiser is a single coil voiced humbucker. I think that is what he meant by that. Also i think i heard that he originally recorded Resolution CD with either Marshall JVM or JMP. Now he gets his tone through Mesa Lonestar and Stiletto
wuaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa q grande
This is a great video, unfortunately it 'jumps' at some point in the middle...does anybody know when it came to be and in which edition of the mag was it featured?
The thing that starts at 3:43 is amazing
@SERLITZ Seriously, I've spent a lot of time trying to emulate his tone with my x3 live... so hard to do lol.
@ShadowLancer128 Mate, i'm pretty sure the AT-100 was the original; The 200 and 300 came a few years after. And the trem on this guitar is a Wilkinson, He hasn't used an edge type bridge since his days in Danger Danger and early solo career.

Wow.
Does anybody know where can I find the sheet of this and of Falling Down? Maybe in PDF
bring back the members only jacket!
@yobhsiFehT I hear you man and I think I agree about 50% because he does the melodic stuff incredibly well. But I do have to admit it's fun to hear him just rip it up sometimes too
2:05 girl from ipanema
I thought the same way you did when he said that. I don't think he meant 'silly' in a mean way though. By 'silly ' he may have meant 'anything that came to my mind'.
the tone of his guitar is like the tone of Erick Johnson's guitar.. :D
Satriani SHOWED all these guys how to play!
Joe EVEN helped Kirk with soloing ideas by steering him in the right direction to take with each song esp. on Master of Puppets.
Kirk will openly admit this himself.
Vai, is just a freak....that Satriani helped make
@omeninoviajante Very true, lol.
It's his signature Ibanez model.
his mentor is satriani
Such a sweet tone considering they are humbucking pickups.
not an ibanez guy but what a beautiful tone hes got going..
ok
is there official tabs for this song?
@SLee1337 nice point my man. but on this particular song I only hear hendrix style. And maybe 500 years later, hendrix will be inspiring just like every famous classical composer.
i didnt say that,
wait? are you talkin about timmons, or the guy below you?
Garota de ipanema, Tom Jobim. Mininao ein! Time 2:00
you can tell it's kirk hammett when he's playing with mettallica.
after hearing him talk for two and a half minutes i went to next video, would be nice to actually hear some guitar playing : )
@mathiasm12 if you could wait through your attention deficiency disorder, you'd have found something really beautiful and powerful.
2:00 girl from ipanema?
yes
sounds like vai
he stops talking at 2:49

I'd say it sounds hendrix'ish. Reminds me of "waterfall". Simple ideas don't have to be stupid.
Andy timmons usa la eléctrica para hacer música, no ruido súper rápido.
Girls of ipanema...playing 'silly things' ?
He talks about how much he respects Jobim. The joke was just about the idea of that song arranged for rock guitar - get it?
@vinnilband it was a joke in the context of the scene he was creating for us.. its kind of like watching a fat person walk down the street and then someone playing a tuba sound to mimick their walking.... andy is cool down to earth and most likely meant no offense to jobim... that been said i think the stuff IS "silly" but i can say that since i'm not a well known anybody and can say whatever the hell i want.. ;)
This song is really great. beautiful tones and sound. You might like my music if you check it out.

The girl from ipanema is not silly dude!
oh yeah i dont know what the hells with that guy
