We get a lot of questions about background checks during the buying process. To keep our customers and public in the loop with the changes, we decided to make this video. Thanks for watching!
They make it harder to get a gun then a job now
A few years back I started getting very slow approval times when buying a gun. Then one time I accidentally forgot to put down my SSN and got an immediate "proceed" (I have a very "unique" last name) I happened to have had a family member that was ALWAYS getting VERY slow "proceeds" on transfers, sometimes having to wait until the next day! (he had an extremely common last name) I told him my story and told him to try leaving off his SSN next time he did a transfer and sure enough, when he did that his slow approvals to proceed with the transfer went away and his FFL would get the "proceed" immediately? And on the three options for "sex" thing on the form now? Here's an idea, if it doesn't matter (which apparently it doesn't, just like the SSN) how about we just take the questions OFF OF THE FORM! They have adjusted the questions like they are just trying to "trick" somebody into answering one of them incorrectly? And the Race & Ethnicity questions on top of all that? Every freedom loving American regardless of "color" should be offended by that even being on there? The one and only bit of information that could possibly help them to determine if you could legally have a firearm is the SSN, and that isn't "required" ?? So what is the point of it?
So now they can have direct screenshots of your name and gun on one page. That’s not odd at all 🙄
Thank you, I bought a firearm yesterday. I can’t remember the last time I bought one. I get nervous when doing the paperwork I don’t know why but I just do.
I just recently filled out the same paper. It was on a tablet at Dunhams sporting goods. Unfortunately, the staff wasn’t as helpful as you said they would be be. They did nothing but stand there and antagonize me when I came to the question of 21 unfortunately, I made a mistake there and it put me in the spot of being denied. they told me I was going to have to come back in 30 days and they also refused to give me a copy of my paperwork. now I have to go back on February 5 and fill it out again..
Same bruh 😢
The ATF has been trampling over the second amendment, the modern day Gestap0 ,
Already they include misdemeanors, non-violent misdemeanors, and other pettiness in order to give non-approvals to people who should be given approval,
I did not need to put a SSN bcoz I have a CCW.
I just got a delay. Embarrassing…..however the FFL say it happens often. He said come pick it up in 3 days unless he calls me before. I’m thinking he won’t be calling and I’ll get it Saturday….
Same thing happened to me I think it was because I didn't add my social this time cus it was optional
@@dumbmonk8047 did you end up getting it?
Happened to me. 2024. While it's true that after 3 days ATF says you can go back to the store , the store will not sell you the gun . Liability issues .My experience and am still waiting for the delay to be lifted .
Hold up. I answered yes on 21a today and was told I messed up and have to wait 24 hours to do it again. Is this the most current 4473 form?
I was.told the same today i.think you say no.and leave the next box blank
One note, 21.a - you CAN legally gift a firearm WITHOUT having them do the 4473. If I went into a gun shop tomorrow with the ideals of purchasing my husband a firearm for a birthday gift, I can legally go through the paperwork, and select that I'm purchasing the firearm -- then, I could ultimately gift that firearm to him down the road. Don't let that confuse you! In most FFL situations, you'll get denied at the point of sale if you're handed money to purchase the firearm with. There's exceptions, such as.. it's a jointed account husband and wife, and the firearm is clearly for the husband as he filled out the paperwork but the wife handed the husband the card. However, just know, it could be mistaken as a straw purchase by plenty of FFL employees and you might get denied. It's a great idea to come in the shop with your own form of payment, fill out the paperwork on your behalf, and then purchase it on your behalf as well.
do they normally make you pay for the form and check when buying a firearm, even at let's say at even a large sporting goods store?
There's no law anywhere stating that you can't purchase a firearm for your husband or your wife or your son or your daughter or I believe your mother or father. Anybody else and that's a completely different story. It's that simple. Doesn't make it right or wrong that's just how it is.
@@NortheastSurvival911 I believe you can gift or sell a firearm to any person you wish so long as you have no reason to believe that person is prohibited from possessing one.
@@fredsasse9973 pretty sure it has to be somebody you know very well. The law varies from state to state. If it's a situation you ever in I would definitely look at federal and state law for wherever you're at before you just do it. Here in New hampshire.. it can be to a parent or a spouse or a child or a grandchild or it can be somebody that you've known very well and I believe it's for 5 or 10 year minimum. Unless it's changed recently. But that only pertains here I have no idea what the law is for the other 49
@@NortheastSurvival911 You're right about the law varying from state to state. In my state one simply has to be "reasonably assured" that the buyer is not prohibited from having a firearm. This is similar to the Federal requirements.
He shuttered a bit on the “non-binary” option lmao
Lol
I remember when I was pumped to finally pay off my lay way just to get his with a cannot be sold the fire arm due to me being put in a institution but they told me I can talk to a lawyer for that so that’s sum
New update to the ATF form*
Me: Screw em. I'll buy what I want and build what I want
Sounds pretty straight forward to me....
My gun shop said we cant help with anything and you messup twice i have to come back next day
I got denied lol how idk lol is there a way to check?
I am the only person (as far as I can tell) with my name, in the entire world. I still put down my SSN when filling out the form. My background checks are literally instant.
that's awesome. I have friends who have to wait 50+ minutes on average for the NICS check to approve them. It's always so random lol.
I do the same and on one rare occasion it took an hour all others 45min or less
@@TheMachineGunNest Overwhemingly vast majority of initial denials are false positives.
Great job explaining it thanks
Is it the same background check for a license and purchase in Florida?
Just in the gun store. They gave me a laminated pink form stating they couldn’t help with any questions. That made the transferee question difficult and they kicked me out. Mind you, I already have a firearm. I was just confused. So them helping you was false
Due to the Bruen Decision we should not continue to be required to fill out ATF 4473 forms when purchasing from a gun store dealer.
Yep,well since,these forms,they,been tracking,all purchase,through ffls
Hi, What would happen if you accidentally select yes on question 21 b.? When you are not intend to sell the firearm or give it away.
Just happened to me on accident and I didn’t mean to even put that. So what happened was I went into academy sports and was purchasing a pistol and when I was submitting the form, the guy stated that he could not sell me the gun due to 21 be being answered, yes. I was super upset and asked why I was not got it through the paperwork and they stated that I needed to read carefully. That was about three weeks ago and basically the way they explained to me is that I have to wait a month and I can come back and purchase the firearm. It made no sense and I called other gun stores and they stated that my name and account will be flagged so if I try to go anywhere else, it would make the process go longer. Hope that helped!
Some years ago there was a gun dealer in West Milwaukee Wisconsin that got sued and lost his gun dealer license for helping somebody out to fill this form out put it short he bought a firearm for a criminal which shot two police officers the criminal got caught and told the police that somebody bought the gun for him they caught the guy that bought the gun for him and he told the police that he would have never bought the gun if it wasn't for the dealer that helped him out filling out the form put it short the guy was not educated enough to understand the wording on the form
he probably gave the guy the answers. That's the only reason why he'd get in trouble.
Is the staff allowed to help you with the paperwork cause they are telling me no they can't help.
Why would being a Gov Employee or having a Security Clearance delay or slow your approval?
Thanks
what about when your birth country doesn’t show up on the online 4473?
Does the weight have to be exactly what it says on the drivers license??
No I put the weight I got last time I was at the doctor
I have question, if a person put a yes to one of those safety questions, would the computer realize it and stop it from continue?
does it show if i have been in a mental institution or not
Does it have to be the same address as your I.d?
Yes
21J have you ever announced your US Citizenship... what exactly does this mean?
so it says "renounced" not announced but I can totally understand how you heard it that way
@@TheMachineGunNest Thank you for the reply. Ive filled my share of 4473 in the past and just seemed odd
Do you have anything to sell other than that soft case on wall?
yes. this was filmed after hours when the guns were put away.
I purchased a shotgun from a gun show and I've been delayed on the background check. This is my first time buying a gun, I also have my HQL license and a government job so background checks were all clear. I don't have a common name either. Anyone know why I would be getting delayed?
Thanks !
My record was dismissed. Do I still put yes I’ve been convicted or no??
So to gift how old does the one receive The gift have to be
Would this form be exactly the same form in Arizona or is it different the reason I'm asking is he says you can purchase the gun for somebody but the person that's going to own the gun has to fill out the form and it would be perfectly legal.
the person who is buying the gun needs to fill the form out. Consult your local FFL or call ATF for clarification.
If I moved then got insurance papers sent to my new address since it's government issued can that work for change of residence
Next thing you know. They want to know when you take your dumps. Check (a) for in the afternoon.
I'm dying. ahhh, this is hilarious. lol
It's kinda tru tho
Non binary ? WTH ? Lmao !
Idiocracy !
Can i fill out the form on line print it and take it to the store?
We don't let people do that, but I'm not sure if that's company policy or ATF rules and regulations
From what ive found there is nothing illegal about pre filling it out but u have to use the information for the intended owner
Nope
How many times u could fill out tht form or how many chances u have
how about if the buyer is green card hold the 4473 can that apply to that preson buy a firearms?
Folks with green card can buy as wel.
Chk ur state.
Yes, you put the country of citizenship and you put your USCIS# there is a place on the first page above the first question
@@damirjalali thank you
@@rome4060 thank you
Welcome to America and enjoy your 2nd amendment right
"WHY WOULD ANY LAW ABIDING PERSON HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS?" I'll tell you why. If a criminal can steal someone's identity and open up credit cards and stuff, they for damn sure can make up a fake drivers license with your info on it and go make a purchase. Then go blow someone away with it and toss it right there on the crime scene. Guess who their gonna come lookin for? Pretty scary $hit huh? Especially if you know a SPECIFIC criminal that would have a SPECIFIC reason to target you like that.
can you please go throught question F more cuz im bipolar
Race ?
Ethnicity ?
More democrat racism !
Ok, so if someone killed one of your loved ones, you don't want the police to have more info on the owner to start the investigation if they find the gun?
@David Hernandez You didn't understood my answer but I don't care about you. 🤷♂️
@@raphaeld307 then why isn't your social security number mandatory? They also have the number off your license or ID which holds all that information. There's really no reason for them to ask any identifying questions. The only questions should be about your criminal background or anything that would prevent you from buying the gun.
I'm neither Republican or Democrat but I'm against government overreach and this seems like a perfect example of that.
@@samhyde6395 Because the SSN isn't mandatory for this branch of the gov, but any normal person that isn't against law enforcement will fill it and any other informations asked on the form to protect themselves. Just the people that doesn't want to follow the law will complain about filling a simple form with simple questions.
@@raphaeld307 I don't even know where to start with that. If that's what you believe then good for you.
Thx for the information.
I have a question 🤔 regarding 21.c
A)If someone been arrested for disorderly conduct which has been dismissed.
B) if someone had been on probation long time ago for 6 months which was nothing criminal nor felony
Under those circumstances what is the answer for 21.C please.
This is a question for one of my friend whom already has CCW permit.
03/25/21
Contact your local lawyer. Quick and easy.
Apparently according to you therefore they didn't know what they are doing.
Probation doesn't always due to those reasons.
Thx anyway
Thx
Maybe be in ur state.
I am a resident of of of the most Tyrant Dictator state which is Massachusetts, & I know so many people have their CCW license under these circumstances.
If all probation were due to felony, then none of those folks would get their CCW license especially in Mass.
Sorry. My mistake as usual 🙃.
Can I fill this out at home and take it in
my understanding is no. but not sure. you could call ATF and ask for clarification.
Male Female Non-Binary?
I have filed a lawsuit in federal court to nix the NICS (including that form 4473).
You are wrong about the gift.
If I am buying a gun for my wife as a gift - I fill out the 4473 and answer yes I am the buyer & transferee.
The person getting the gift is not the buyer - they don't fill out a 4473 - this has been the rule for decades --
If you are going to make videos you should maybe read the regulation.
I see you skipped 21.i, why is that?
that's our fault, I think Deryck just skipped it on accident.
Can you please message me I’m getting my ffl dealer lic and opening 3 months if you can help me would be greatly appreciated
Thanks man for the video I should buy a gun from you cuz you explained the form that’s why I get denied
can i apply this online ? if so, whats the name of the website?
No, you can't!
There's Infiniti genders though according to my leftist professor
Non- binary really?
Get to the point
