Thanks for the advice. On a sidenote: Our legal system needs a massive overhaul; we cannot allow the state to punish us like this anymore. Self defense and home defense should be perfectly legal; I understand if they need to investigate to "make sure" that it was indeed real defense and not an excuse for you to shoot someone, such as murdering an invited guest then lying that they invaded the property; but even when it is true self defense the state sometimes criminalizes you and puts you behind bars. It's absolutely atrocious, like we are supposed to be self-hating and let people kill us in our own homes. America is really eroding. This needs to stop.

And just because i shot someone and claim it was self defense dosent mean im telling the truth. The police are following the law, and its against the law to kill someone, with a few exceptions. And what rights are the police gonna violate? Your right to go home after shooting someone, when they still havent figured out if it was legal or not. There are no guarantees so if you go 10 years without using it, that $4k was spent with no direct return. It was At least 14 officers on the scene, they arrived Around 9am while everyone was asleep and we're shouting for the person they were looking for but everyone was asleep and they wasted no time breaking the door down and invading the apartment. And It was just extremely intense cause nobody in the house knew what was going on and who they came to look for was not there. They were commanding us and shouting, they cuffed us all and sat us down, even a 4 year old child who was in this house was put into handcuffs. It was 4 of us in the house and we all had to comply with their directions. I honestly wont ever forget it cause it was a shock the way it happened unexpectedly with full force. But the main rule everyone in the house knew was to not say anything to them and if they ask for your basic information of who you are is the only time you say something to avoid having anything you said used against you or the people you have friendships with.

If all else fails and you can’t safely disengage from the threat then pull and shoot abs don’t stop till threat is completely over. Immediately call 911 and say that you need police and ambulance to the scene. That you are the victim of a crime. Describe yourself and the clothing your wearing. Hang up the call and wait for police/ambulance arrival. Let police know you will cooperate with there questions but you need to have your attorney present first. Police are not your friends. I discovered 2 friends after a homicide suicide via a gun. We didn't know there wasn't a third person involved until about a week later. I vaguely remember the detective interviewing me, and i felt like a robot. No emotion, but my heart was hammering away. I knew I wasn't guilty of anything, but I also hadn't absorbed that my friends were dead. I was still convinced that help could be given and my thoughts were all over the place. The detective was patient and helped me calm down as much as I could, then offered to call a crisis team out because I wasn't okay. I had to retrace the events from the last few days and was really confused because my thoughts weren't on what he was asking. My thoughts were on how this could have happened, why was no one helping them, what would happen to the dogs....
It's been a few years, and I still have problems remembering certain things.
My brain split into 2 that night. Part of me became a robot that went with the flow. The other part of me froze, and it feels like I'm still standing there waiting for my friends to get up.
If I ever am in a position to have to use lethal force to defend myself, I already know that I'm not going to be in any right state to give a statement. It's so important to not only seek a lawyer, but to follow up with mental health resources after. These situations are never easy, for the person defending themselves or the family of the attacker.
My worry is that, if I do have to use lethal force one day, I won't be able able forgive myself for taking someone else's life. That in and of itself is horrifying.
So for those who find themselves in this situation, seek a lawyer. Absolutely. But also don't be afraid to find a therapist or other mental health resources.

You get to go to the ER and... if you ask the doctor nicely, probably get admitted for a heart evaluation. Doctors don't have to give a diagnosis to the police, nor do we have to comply with them (barring a warrant.). At the end of the day, a doctor was doing their due diligence in ensuring the health of their patient.

The police have one thing in mind when they first arrive. Get control and negate the threat. YOU don't want to be the threat. That could end in a bad way for you.

What you laid out specifically shows the flaws in our system. The Rittenhouse case showed us how dirty, to the point of criminality, both police and prosecutors are willing to go. Sad. I’ll still choose to defend myself and my family.

This is brilliant@ 7:22 it's fact that humans are horrible and unreliable witnesses , at any time, especially under stress. I saw a video of a group of people that were taken to a park, with little situations set up, beforehand. The people were told to stroll through the park, along a walkway. At random, people jumped out of bushes, ran past, stopped to talk to them, etc, and at the end of the test, they were asked a serious of questions about what happened along the way, people they spoke to, what they wore, how tall, etc. And it was shocking how very little people were able to accurately recall, even in a low stress situation, even though they knew prior that they would be tested. Many of the people were entirely oblivious to normal visual clues.

I'm curious if police will confiscate ALL of your firearms or just the one that is used in a self defense situation if it happens at our home. The reason I ask is that if I'm in a self defense shooting, depending on the situation, retaliation (from friends, other gang members etc) could be a real concern and I don't want to be left without any firearms if I can help it. I'd be VERY hesitant telling police I had other firearms if asked!

Only takes that a cop is prejudice or don't like you and boom you have tons of charges, that can be all lied, and afterwards dropped but again where is the protection?

Step 1. Call 911 and tell them you we're the victim of a violent crime and the bad guy is down and needs an ambulance.
    2. When cops arrive have gun on the ground unloaded 10ft away from you.
    3. Statement to cops: I was in fear for my life and i defended myself and I wish to speak to an attorney.

    • @Joe_Not_A_Fed

My conceal and carry teacher gave us business cards(about remaining silent to police) to hand to police if we ever get in a self defense shooting, and he told us to call and extra ambulance for yourself, claim you’re hard of breathing and your chest hurts. Legally they have to get you medical help before they start interrogating you or anything else

"For awhile" means forever unless you hire an attorney who is extremely annoying to the PD involved. "Not taking sides" means they'll treat everyone like a villain. You called them, but they'll still treat tou like garbage. They don't care, they want credit for the arrest, and most of them want to go home without further incident.
Also, as soon a they show up, tell them you need to speak to your attorney. It wouldn't hurt to tell the dispatcher that either. GET AN ATTORNEY!!

There is a good reason why the Nazis and Stalin's Secret Police would pound on someone's door at 2:00 or 3:00 am. Sleep deprivation, fear, and disorientation lends itself very well, to unintentional false statements, confused statements, or incriminating statements, and this happens almost every time that something happens at night, or in the early morning hours.

What happens in a self defense situation where your child/children are at the scene? I am a single father and a product of divorce, I don't ever want this scenario to play out but understand it could. I want to be prepared in all situations because the last thing I need is to amplify the fear my child has if I am taken away due to us being caught up in a self defense situation.

Consulting with an attorney during or even immediately after a situation is difficult to think about doing and is going to be impossible to do using USCCA. Their hotline rings directly to a call center... that call center will tell you that they will compile a list of their program attorneys in 24 to 48 hours. Then you'll have to choose which attorney to call and hope that they take your case. You won't have that issue with a US LawShield membership. Their emergency line rings directly to a contracted attorney in your area based on where you are calling from. No need to wait to talk to an attorney and evoke your rights. Not to mention they are ALOT cheaper. www.uslawshield.com/member-sign-up/?promo=nfti

If a criminal does a home invasion while you, your wife and kids are home, and they charge you, it is 100% legal to shoot them, as you are in fear for your life, and the lives of your loved ones.
In that scenario, you will never be convicted of any crime.
There are scenarios that will get you in very serious trouble. Such as shooting the criminal in the back as they retreat.
You just need to be very smart and aware of the law in your state.
    Stay safe.
