An 18 year old can join the Army, be issued a weapon capable of full auto fire, lay their life on the line for this country....but when they go home they are treated like a criminal for wanting to buy the same type of weapon they trained with except it's not full auto. I certainly understand that rationale, however, an 18-year-old joining the army is given quite a bit of firearm training and is most likely someone that has some rational 'adult' thinking given that they chose to join military ranks. I have known many 18-year-olds, and many much older than 18, that I would not fully trust with a handgun. Just because someone is 18 doesn't mean they have an ounce of common sense.
18 is the legal voting age and, you become a free adult in society. The entire constitution is that persons right as enumerated within it. Cannot go all “pre-crime” and pre-emptive on ANYBODY. Because of one’s feelings about trust in another. A person’s rights are not subject to scrutiny really. If no crime has been committed. “SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED”!

Got denied by an unconstitutional system 2 years ago. Fast Forward a couple of years. Applied for a CCWP. Got it 2 weeks later, submitted not one but TWO background checks to law enforcement for my packet to become an Armorer. Passed with flying colors. Yet I can get denied my 2nd amendment right to legally buy a firearm. Riddle me that fedboys.

Having to notify law enforcement wouldn't be an issue if law enforcement cared about our rights. But yet again , we should have never gave law enforcement/ government the reach and power they have.

But I guess it’s nothing new that the three branches of government fail to keep each other in check, but rather mostly march in lockstep. Here’s hoping the courts will make this right at some point.
I believe that 18 - 21 not being allowed to purchase rifles was ruled unconstitutional in California by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and ruled the same way in Texas as well.

Im 44, no criminal history and own many firearms. In September it took 33 days for my background check to be approved. The store policy I purchased the gun at was background checks can only be active for 29 days then they are canceled. I had to start all over thereby doubling the work for NICS and the store lost my business forever. I really feel like my 2nd Amendment Rights were taken from me on that one. How many other people is this happening to?
I owned a gun shop in Ohio for 25 years, if no response from NICS in 72 hours were were free to release the gun to the customer. Your state may be different.

I remember in 2021 I was buying a rifle at 18 and done a background check and got it I got a call from my local police, department of treasury and the fbi as they think I was prohibited as they think I done a terrorist threat (I did not put it) on Twitter as I told them that someone hack my account and later haven’t heard from them

We need background checks for buying a car or running for any political office. No under the age of 21 should be allowed to join the military either. Why should you be killed in action before you can even legally own a firearm.

Local law enforcement will do nothing with the denied notices. Being denied is not proof of a crime being committed. Even if the police come to your house, you’re not obligated to talk to the police.
I can see denials being reported because on the background check form you have a series of yes or no questions that answering yes to any of them would mean you're not allowed to own a firearm at a federal so if you get denied chances are you lied on a federal form which is a felony either that or its a state specific law stopping stopping you, an error in the system, or you answered yes to a question but the FFL ran the background check anyway. But no matter the reason, there's no reason for law enforcement to have to contact you unless you lied on the form and at that point get an attorney and stfu. Now it's completely and total bullshit that someone is report just for being delayed. Me and two other people in my group of "range friends" are delayed every single time but it always comes back approved in the end and it's all because we have the same names as our dads who are prohibited persons. Now, thanks to crimes committed by someone else, and before some of us were even born, every time we buy a firearm it's report to the local police. It's like that for 3 out of the 12 people in my "range friends" group so I imagine it's going to be like that for hundreds of thousands if not (and more than likely) millions of people.
I live in MA and I'm waiting for my LTC to come in the mail. I had a couple 10 year old things on my record from RI both non violent which I had expunged back in early March. I have confirmed record was erased on the RI state level at attorney general office and they relay to other federal agencies. I was ok'd and passed all checks through MA but im concerned when I get my check at a dealer it will be a no go.

Your address will automatically be submitted to NICS so they have it available to them in case you are denied. IF you are denied, your address will then be sent to local LE. Otherwise, it is deleted from their record with the rest of your information after the form expiration date. At least, that is what we are told...

I’m in MS & we have the same thing. We’re constitutional carry but you can get a permit that allows you to carry in otherwise restricted areas & to just fill out the 4473 & go. Wonderful system that I fully support. My county is also a 2A sanctuary.
South Dakota also has that if you have a pistol permit you can skip the nics check. You don’t need it to own or carry but I thought that was pretty cool
Same for NC. But as far as I recall, no concealed permits issued to anyone under 21. I somehow bought a Smith model 28 when I was 18. Perhaps the laws were better then. I don't remember. I do remember the big gun did not fit in the console, in the glove box, nor under the seat of my 1978 Z-28!

I can't understand why there isn't an online NICS that sends back a blanket approval code for any gun/guns of any kind at any dealership within a specific period of time. Then the buyer can just take the code to the dealership, sign off on the NO/YES form, and buy the gun/guns. All the dealer would then do is enter the code, verify the Drivers License, and enter the gun and serial number. It would totally eliminate the need for the call and reentry of information, and get rid of some of the red tape for the dealer. It would also get rid of that "I wonder if they'll approve" feeling that everyone has when they go in the gun store. i am 19. i had a gun (long barrel rifle) shipped to my local ffl and i was waiting on it for 2 weeks. It finally gets there and i was super excited to go pick it up. Mind you i’ve done this a few times before this. When i get there they ask me for my license and my permit. I was confused as i do not have a permit, nor need one to by long barreled guns. They told me they had to call it in to the FBI and they did so. The FBI said i’m delayed for another week until they call my ffl and told them my background is good. My ffl told me they could call and even extend the delay. I was really confused because ive never ever ever had to do that and i thought they just didn’t want to give me the gun because they didn’t know their laws. I guess i’m the one who didn’t know the law because what kind of absolute bullshit is this. Another week+ i’ll be waiting for a gun a couldve walked out with right there and then.
I mean... these are the Canadian laws i've lived with since my first firearm purchase at 18. Firearm owners literally get vetted daily here, especially restricted firearms owners which also require different courses and vetting to own/operate. Hey I have a UPIN. And I had never had a delay in several years, until today. Do I have to renew my UPIN?
We need background checks for buying a car or running for any political office. No under the age of 21 should be allowed to join the military either. Why should you be killed in action before you can even legally own a firearm.

The ATF already has a registry... You're naïve if you think they don't.
Local law enforcement will do nothing with the denied notices. Being denied is not proof of a crime being committed. Even if the police come to your house, you’re not obligated to talk to the police.
I can see denials being reported because on the background check form you have a series of yes or no questions that answering yes to any of them would mean you're not allowed to own a firearm at a federal so if you get denied chances are you lied on a federal form which is a felony either that or its a state specific law stopping stopping you, an error in the system, or you answered yes to a question but the FFL ran the background check anyway. But no matter the reason, there's no reason for law enforcement to have to contact you unless you lied on the form and at that point get an attorney and stfu.
Now it's completely and total bullshit that someone is report just for being delayed. Me and two other people in my group of "range friends" are delayed every single time but it always comes back approved in the end and it's all because we have the same names as our dads who are prohibited persons. Now, thanks to crimes committed by someone else, and before some of us were even born, every time we buy a firearm it's report to the local police. It's like that for 3 out of the 12 people in my "range friends" group so I imagine it's going to be like that for hundreds of thousands if not (and more than likely) millions of people.
I live in MA and I'm waiting for my LTC to come in the mail. I had a couple 10 year old things on my record from RI both non violent which I had expunged back in early March. I have confirmed record was erased on the RI state level at attorney general office and they relay to other federal agencies. I was ok'd and passed all checks through MA but im concerned when I get my check at a dealer it will be a no go.
I’m in the army I have purchased many firearms but now I have to wait 10 days. I just paid 90% for a shotgun at a store and it is the 10th day and my gun store is still yet to hear anything regarding my back ground check
You know I enlisted in the US ARMY at 17 years old. I attended Basic and AIT at 17 years old. As a Grunt (LRSU) do you have any idea what weapon systems were at our disposal? ALL of them in the US inventory with the exception of nukes………. At the age of 17, if I could wear the uniform I could drink alcohol on base…………..

My last NICS check took 5 minutes, and I'm out the door, in 2019. No way would I do one now, for any reason. Denied, they contact your police department. Never again.

What if you already have a U Pin and you get a delay!? That just happened to me. I have a upin. And when I go to buy a gun or rifle, they usually take like 1 hour to sell me the weapon. But today I got a delay! Do I need to renew my UPIN!??????

Your address will automatically be submitted to NICS so they have it available to them in case you are denied. IF you are denied, your address will then be sent to local LE. Otherwise, it is deleted from their record with the rest of your information after the form expiration date. At least, that is what we are told...

Just buying one, and doing the paperwork, basically entitles them to come in your house and check your stuff whenever they want. And if you want to take it to another state, you have to tell your state, the other state you're going to, and any you might be going through as well. Might even have to get permission, but idk about that part.

I’m in MS & we have the same thing. We’re constitutional carry but you can get a permit that allows you to carry in otherwise restricted areas & to just fill out the 4473 & go. Wonderful system that I fully support. My county is also a 2A sanctuary.
South Dakota also has that if you have a pistol permit you can skip the nics check. You don’t need it to own or carry but I thought that was pretty cool

I somehow bought a Smith model 28 when I was 18. Perhaps the laws were better then. I don't remember. I do remember the big gun did not fit in the console, in the glove box, nor under the seat of my 1978 Z-28!

Hi went to buy a gun, and filled out a 4473 electronic form (not paper) but I apparently made a mistake or mis understood the question, and they told me that I hace to wait 30 days to retake the form, should I be worried about it, I have clean record.

Went to pick up my first gun today, background got delayed and they said the Brady date is 5 business days from now…no idea why it’s delayed…I’m a vet so idk why. Kind of has me worried but idk why
So now all they need to do is add one line of computer code to NICS to create a federal firearms registry: all submissions are delayed. Under current law, that requires FFLs to submit addresses, and NICS becomes NIRS.

I purchased on Black Friday from a local shop and I was instantly delayed. Was told to come in on the December 1st if I didn’t hear anything before then. I came in and they told me background check was delayed till the tenth! I just wanna shoot skeet..

I can't understand why there isn't an online NICS that sends back a blanket approval code for any gun/guns of any kind at any dealership within a specific period of time. Then the buyer can just take the code to the dealership, sign off on the NO/YES form, and buy the gun/guns. All the dealer would then do is enter the code, verify the Drivers License, and enter the gun and serial number. It would totally eliminate the need for the call and reentry of information, and get rid of some of the red tape for the dealer. It would also get rid of that "I wonder if they'll approve" feeling that everyone has when they go in the gun store.

i am 19. i had a gun (long barrel rifle) shipped to my local ffl and i was waiting on it for 2 weeks. It finally gets there and i was super excited to go pick it up. Mind you i’ve done this a few times before this. When i get there they ask me for my license and my permit. I was confused as i do not have a permit, nor need one to by long barreled guns. They told me they had to call it in to the FBI and they did so. The FBI said i’m delayed for another week until they call my ffl and told them my background is good. My ffl told me they could call and even extend the delay. I was really confused because ive never ever ever had to do that and i thought they just didn’t want to give me the gun because they didn’t know their laws. I guess i’m the one who didn’t know the law because what kind of absolute bullshit is this. Another week+ i’ll be waiting for a gun a couldve walked out with right there and then.

I mean... these are the Canadian laws i've lived with since my first firearm purchase at 18. Firearm owners literally get vetted daily here, especially restricted firearms owners which also require different courses and vetting to own/operate.
Its stupid... i know... as criminals don't follow rules.. but the US is seriously following suit for our Canadian gun regulations and its stupid because it's not like Canadian criminals follow rules either.
An 18 year old can join the military and have access to much deadlier weapons and training to use them, but the government can void their 2d amendment rights.

Get that every single time now. I don’t have the license and won’t get one because it is unconstitutional and just down right wrong. I always have to wait 3 days now and I literally expect nothing less at this point.

There is legal precedence that felons can not be prosecuted for lying that they are a felon on the 4473 because of the Fifth Amendment.
They are slowly doing away with the 18 for long gun, 21 for pistol. It’s just a matter of time before you’ll have to be 21 to purchase any type of firearm.
The only problem I have with that is twenty-one should be the legal age for everything then. Booze, smokes, voting and even Military service.

The 4473 is, in theory, not supposed to be sent to the FBI or ATF unless the FFL is audited
