Firstly a few stubborn facts about Australia that this walking talking gun junkie either overlooked of straight out lied about
      1. Australia did not have it's firearms banned, there was a buy back of specific firearm types ( crowd killers) in fact there are more firearms in Australia now than pre buy back.
      2. Australia did have a repetitive history of mass shootings prior to Port Arthur, and have had one in the following 27 years - must be a coincidence right ?
      3. The decline in the murder rate actually accelerated post Port Arthur.
4, The current annual murder rate in the US is 9 times that of Australia.
In the U.S. according to a Harvard University analysis of figures from the National Crime Victimization Survey, people defended themselves with a gun in only 0.9 percent of crimes.
and a few more stubborn facts
Owning a gun has been linked to higher risks of homicide, suicide, and accidental death by gun.
For every time a gun is used in self defence in the home, there are 7 assaults or murders, 11 suicide attempts, and 4 accidents involving guns in or around a home.
43 percent of homes with guns and kids have at least one unlocked firearm
According to to FBI data, nearly eight times more people were shot and killed in arguments than by civilians trying to stop a crime.
In one survey, nearly 1 percent of Americans reported using guns to defend themselves or their property. However, a closer look at these claims found that more than half involved using guns in an aggressive manner, such as escalating an argument.
A study in Philadelphia found that the odds of an assault victim being shot were 4.5 times greater if he carried a gun. His odds of being killed were 4.2 times greater.
Unfortunately the rest of your rant doesn't seem to gel with the math either
If guns are the answer to crime then you must be the safest country on the planet !!!
      Unfortunately not.
in the last 50 years you have killed more Americans by the gun than in every war the US has fought in since the Revolution and your gun murder rate is more than the entire OECD combined.
In fact your gun homicide rate is close to 500% higher than almost every other modern industrialised democratic capitalist country on earth.
Coupled with becoming ground zero for mass and school shootings to a point where it has almost become an international spectator sport.
Gun Control is not universal gun confiscation, and the circumstances and laws that you base your ' theories' have had the exact opposite effect to what you claim in countries across the globe.
Funnily enough your poll figures go up and down depending how far out you are from your latest atrocity…..that in itself says everything about the US as a nation.
Guns aren't tools in the US - they are a religion.
As for "freedumb' - go look where the US is placed on the World Freedom Index.
And as for the Second Amendment - most of the modern free world countries would in fact rather see an Ebola outbreak than suffer this slow motion , politically endorsed national suicide pact on their turf.
It truly is a case of the cure being deadlier than the disease.

"In the U.S. according to a Harvard University analysis of figures from the National Crime Victimization Survey, people defended themselves with a gun in only 0.9 percent of crimes. and a few more stubborn facts"
Or in other words, the other 99.1% of the times a gun was used defensively, a crime was not committed. Sure is neat what you can do with statistics and half a brain, ain't it?
I could dismantle the rest of your arguments too, but frankly I value my time, and it would obviously be a waste, considering the level of ignorance in your comment is well beyond willful, I mean for crying out loud, you speak of lies and conveniently omitted statistics and then proceed to type out a whole book of them.

I was in High School in the late 1980's and we had a gun range in the basement of our school that was ran by the JROTC instructors. We had a school rifle team that met after school and shot 22 caliber match rifles provided by the government. Had rifles and shot guns in our cars in the parking lot. No school shootings, half the kids, both boys and girls carried pocket knives and there were no stabbings. Deer season opened the first Monday after Thanksgiving and half the kids were gone for 3 days.

The right to bear arms is not just for hunting and protecting yourself and loved ones, its to protect against a government that tries to usurp your rights, take them away, and to deal with that governmental body with force. Registering gun owners and their specific firearm(s) is a violation of our rights. There are too many gun owners new and old to keep track of, and if we registered everyone with anything they had that is dangerous, then we'd have to register ourselves because we can be dangerous with our words and our physical power as humanity. I agree completely with Nick. The way I look at it though is this: I spent 20 years, 6 months, 18 days in service to this country. I joined simply to keep America free. I like 4th of July BBQ's, I like the freedoms I was born with, freedoms that I have seen others in other countries wish they had. I have been to some real crap holes, and I understand how those cultures work. A vast majority of Americans are completely clueless how the rest of the world operates. Now that i'm retired and older, I will not relinquish my weapons; no matter how much they try, or pass laws, or even send people to my door; I will not relinquish my God-given rights. I will gladly die for this, so my children can grow up in a world without government oppression.

I hear that, but often people say this when surrounded by like minded others. How far would you defend someone's right to say freedom of speech or expression if their views differed say on politics or policy and possibly threatened your interests? People often talk about such freedoms, but few subscribe to the sacrifice and discipline that it truly requires. Although the United States has broadly similar values to mine across the pond we have developed differently and sometimes each of our nations have been found wanting in this regard. In theory and I hope in your heart to subscribe to what you have said on occasions the notion of disagreeing with what someone says, but defending to the death their right to say it would have to ring true.

Most gun violence in this country has nothing to do with mental health. I saw a statistic a while ago. US is in the top 10 in gun violence in the world. Take Philly, las Angeles, and four or five other cities, mostly blue, out of that metric and the US goes down to 104 th . What that tells me is gun violence in this country is a result of certain areas with terrible policies, weak enforcement and local governments more interested in optics than solutions. And a minority of cities being responsible for a majority of shootings mirrors the data that continues to show that the black minority in this country are responsible for the abundance of these crimes. Data also shows a correlation between fatherless homes and crime, much of it involving firearms. Want to get the gun violence under control, get rid of the poor governance, get serious about sentencing and bring back stop and frisk

The training is the part that is so important. Every time I touch my CCW , I always check the safety first . Carrying , fire arm & ownership in general has awesome amount of responsibility with it.

Your best defense is first and always ,
Situational Awareness. ( Who is around you and what are they doing. )
Secondly, don’t go places armed if you wouldn’t go there unarmed. That’s just dumb ! Thirdly , avoid arguments. Let the other win , go first, whatever. The best fight is the one you avoided completely.

Firearms have been a part of my life, my entire life. I remember times when I was a kid, seeing my grandpa's shotguns behind his front door. My dad would always tell me, "don't touch em, without my say so." He taught me to respect what they were capable of, if misused. He taught me the value of safety... and most importantly, both my parents taught me the value of human life. I have since taught my 3 sons those same values. It begins in the home folks!!! It's not the gun, not in any sense... it's poor values, poor judgement and a lack of caring. Legislators don't care about this though. They want to take, take and take some more. It's our job to make sure they hear and understand us. It's our job to make sure they all know that we cherish our civil liberties... especially our 2nd Amendment rights. It sure does suck for places like Australia and Canada..., but we aren't those places. Never will be. We are a free nation, and a nation that is full of people willing to bleed for that freedom. Folks need to wake up and realize this. Make your voices heard...stand up for what you believe in!!

What a pleasant surprise for the Shepherdess to address this issue. She could safely continue putting out content on her main focus, and side step potentially controversial subjects. Considering that I just heard my parents tell me about the coyote running off with a kid (baby goat) in it's mouth, and the lab chasing it down, until it dropped the kid and ran away, and remembering my mom shooting a coyote in front of the chicken coop, I see how this issue is a natural offshoot of shepherding. But, perhaps more than this, I can see this issue being connected to her foundational reasons for jumping feet first into shepherding, and making this channel. Shepherdess, keep being who God made you to be.

Hello. I'm from Australia. We have more firearms now than back in 1996, albeit not the same types. 2:40 sums it up: "...severely restrict or make it incredibly difficult for law abiding citizens to get one..." this is where we are at. It starts with licensing, then eroding existing rights by making those same rights an offence unless it's under a state-sanctioned privilege, and then over time the regulations governing those privileges are made harsher or harder to comply with. Western Australia is now introducing a 5-gun limit on recreational shooters. This is how it goes. My wife and I are both licensed in another state for some longarms and handguns. Compliance is on-going and must be addressed, lest the police come and take all firearms in your possession.

The second amendment in the US constitution is so the people can rise up if their government becomes Tyrannical(which it has BTW). To do that you need the same guns your government has, semiautomatic rifles and fully automatic, these are the guns they took from Australians for exactly that purpose.

Firearms are like a slingshot compared to what the government would use if citizens decided to actually fight the tyranny that exists. Obviously it's not futile to want to keep the second amendment intact. However, please don't kid yourself into believing that even a fully automatic weapon would matter at all against the American government.

For those wanting the data to back Nick's point on Australia, it's available from the Australian beauro of statistics (ABS). It shows the trend of declining gun deaths from the 1950's. The reality is that from the time the gun buy back started in 1996, the decline actually reduced. As in the lowering trend was not as low as prior. Also, there are currently more firearms in Australia now than prior to 1996. Gun violence isn't a gun problem, it's a social problem.
