I discovered The Moody Blues in the 80s, but it was their core seven albums (from Days of Future past in 1967 through Seventh Sojourn in 1972) that touched my soul in ways you describe this song touched you. They've got great songs beyond these also, but these seven are my favorite. "Question" is powerful, as are "Dawning is the Day," "The Actor," "The Story in Your Eyes," and others. I hope you go at least a little way down this rabbit hole! Thank you for this!
When Justin Hayward played this for the guys in the group, they were rather "blah" about it, until the keyboard player, Mike Pinder, asked him to play it again. It was Pinder who added the melodic background that helped so much. My favorite Moody song will always be "The Actor." I hope that you will listen to it someday, Sarah.
There's a reason why the Blues need a full orchestra as their backup. Between them, they can play 35 different instruments. So when they were recording, they could make the full orchestra sound. These are some of the most talented musicians you will ever hear. And yes, you just listened to a masterpiece.
Yes Sarah, you have just heard one of the great MASTERPIECES of the last century, and one of the greatest love songs ever performed. As you also heard Whiter shade of pale, another Masterpiece.
I grew up listening to this group & they are one of my favorites from the 60's - 80's. They have had so many hit songs. Love their mix of rock with classical music. They have a sound like no other band. The Moody Blues' most successful singles include "Go Now", "Tuesday Afternoon", "Question", "Gemini Dream", "The Voice" & "Your Wildest Dreams". But all of their music is great.
This gave me chills. I was at a concert when they did this at the spectaciular Gorge in Washington state backed by the Spokane Symphony Orchestra who were amazed to be playing behind these men who took us on a quest for so many years with their powerfully themed albums.
From a time when musicians played instruments and voices really sound like you hear, a classic from my childhood. Of course you know that I love a combination of pop and classical. Thank you Sarah ❤️
One thing missing from the live recording was the poem 'Late Lament'...it was written by the drummer and read over the symphonic section at the end. Do yourself a favor and listen to the studio version...the poem will have you weeping yet again, and adds SO much to the song. Great video!
It's always great to see "kids" today enjoying a song that came out 50+ years ago. Granted, the addition of the philharmonic was much more recent, but still . . .
I loved watching your face during this. I feel the same way! One of the most beautiful songs ever. I get chills when he sings the part "And I love you... Oh how I love you". I feel it right in my soul, and I could tell you felt it too. Amazing reaction and song.
This song was originally part of a themed album, where each song was a different part of the day, album was named Days Of Future Passed. This song was for the 'night' as the title implies, another popular one from the album was Tuesday Afternoon.
This lady really knows how to listen to her music and the few reveiws of hers I have watched it's lovely to see a genuine reaction to music she has not heard before...Well done Sarah 🙂
The first song by the Moody Blues I heard was “The Voice”, but I haven’t heard anything like this until I got into the military and started looking for more of their music. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Sarah, the descriptions you emoted were magical in and of themselves. I couldn’t help but smile and nod my head as you searched for words to adequately express your feelings. The performers gave each of us a spiritual gift! I enjoyed your reaction! ♥️
I've said this for other videos of the Moody Blues- this video is 40+ years after their prime. Just imagine how great they were in that prime- I've seen them several times back then, and they were wonderful.
Loved, loved, loved your reaction to the Moody Blues! One of my favorite groups and song. I just subscribed to your channel and can’t wait for more reactions....
Sarah, that was such a beautiful reaction, straight from your heart as was the song written by the amazing Justin Hayward straight from his heart as a divine gift to the world. Like you, when I first heard it way back in 68' I fell immediately in love with it. 53 years later it only gets better each time I hear it. It fills me with joy to see young people discovering this immortal music and these extraordinary musicians and basking in the glory of their creativity. The concert DVD this was taken from "Live at the Royal Albert Hall" with the World Festival Orchestra is magnificent and is as close to perfection as you can get, extraordinary, for future listening from the same concert I recommend "Tuesday Afternoon" ruclips.net/video/07IxIiqvx80/видео.html , "Question" ruclips.net/video/tmOZFAYeurY/видео.html and "I know you're out there somewhere" ruclips.net/video/a97d5bUCFVQ/видео.html enjoy the journey!
What a beautiful soul you have, it was such a pleasure and so uplifting to see your reaction to this classic. These reactions channels are often so interesting to me. Not everyone is affected to your level, but most people react (particularly women in my opinion) in a wondrous way and it almost never fails to bring their inner beauty directly out to be displayed on their visage. I have not seen a woman that I can recall that was not at her most beautiful when engaging with a magnificent piece of music. If that makes any sense LOL I subscribed, I need to see you react to more music.
Recorded so long ago that they literally had to guess what the string section did the first time around, this epic closer to their 1967 album 'Days of Future Passed' has become a rock and pop standard. And whatever the situation, Justin Hayward still manages to unlock the 17 year old boy confronting love for the first time. A classic.
I'm so happy that you have joined us in that magical time, when we were 18-19 and the world seemed to be crashing down around us. We needed the music to touch our souls and now it has touched you, too. And as we watch you, and we listen with you, it becomes new for us again. Look for Justin Hayward's more recent videos, such as "The Actor." You'll be glad you did.
another great song from the 60's & one of those tunes that stay with you. This & "Whiter Shade Of Pale" by Procol Harum are among the epic tracks of that decade. Please check out the original album releases of both tunes, that is how we were introduced to the magic.
His voice is just as good now as it was back then and he's in his 70s now. Justin (the lead singer) wrote Nights in White Satin when he was 19 years old after a breakup with a girlfriend who had given him a set of white satin bed sheets. The song was released in 1967. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.
Hello Sarah wow great video seen it many times but just now pond your page this a Very Strong song it was one I would all ways send to my Aisha and she would send back she has passed 18months ago thanx for the meories all ways your friend Chad
While these guys were performing during the hard rock times of Led Zeppelin & such they were much appreciated for their classical sound. I liked them very much.
I had a feeling that you would react like this to this wonderful, beautiful, amazing masterpiece of a song and you did not disappoint! I have read that Justin Hayward (the singer) wrote this song while he was still in his late teens, if you can imagine that!! No matter how many or how few of their songs you choose to react to please be sure "Question" is on that list! And if you don't mind a few more suggestions (unless you have reacted to them already) please consider: "The Good The Bad and The Ugly" by Danish Symphony Orchestra, "My Immortal" by Evanescence, "Hi De Ho" by Blood Sweat and Tears and from a live version from the late 1970's, "Locomotive Breath" by Jethro Tull!
I love your reaction... I have loved this song since I was about 9 yrs old and I am not young!!!!! This band is so amazing in concert. I have seen them many times!!!!
Hi Ms. Sarah, A great, great song.. Flute played by Mr. Ray Thomas, R.I.P. Mr. Ray.. Mr. Justin has a most haunting voice.. Some versions have a poem near the end, "Late Lament", not sure why is was not included with this one.. ♠W.G.
I've heard this song performed live with the full rock band plus symphony orchestra (this video was filmed at the Royal Albert Hall in, I think, about 2002), just the rock band, and Justin on acoustic guitar with just one or two backing musicians. It's just as good any way he performs it. He's sung this song at every performance since, let's see, about 1967, and he sings it with just as much passion nowadays as he did all those years ago (and he usually gets about a 5-minute standing ovation). He is truly one of the greatest artists of the 20th (and now 21st) century.
Great reaction to a magical song. Days of Future Past in a concept lp, and should be listened to as a whole IMO. The Moody's drummer, Graeme Edge, just died last wk, after a long and very productive life...
I just sent this song as a voice te,text to my Baby Mom , And texted her the lyrics , I hope she impacted , we're separated , but I hope she gets on that plane . For me
