Yes, the greatest group. However I don’t think they really cared about being in the Hall of Fame. This is an American thing and the rest of the world does not care.
Always use to think this was *_"Knights in White Satin"_* you know a noble quest borne of love committed to protecting love, worth enduring & never reaching the end....
My dad bought this album he was 42 at the time I was 16 I stole his That was the specific outcome they went for. Mercury wanted to make a Stereophonic album as opposed to our regular Mono These LPs would be priced MUCH higher so they needed a "gimmick" for want of a better word, to be able to 1. Show the difference to justify cost 2. Appeal to a broad range with 1 LP 3. Utilize rock &roll with a symphony They invited Justin to put a few pieces together with some of his "mates". Original MBs had the hit Go Now but struggled for a way to use the meletron, electric flute, harp which the members played but did not have Justins writing chops He wrote this song that evolved into Tuesday Afternoon then the idea for a day in the life. I believe they almost lost it all because the symphony only had a short window But it happened and if I dare say we all are better for it Btw My dad bought a master which was $40 In late 1960s that was a small fortune. A Master was a first run direct studio recording The master was where the other albums were cast Sorry for the verbosity. I am almost 70 and my heart still leaps thru hoops for the Moody Blues
Empress, this song is more than 50 years old and it is still phenomenal. If you get a chance please listen to the studio version and you will hear just how close this more recent live performance was to the original...these guys have been great for a long time.
If you like that you have got to listen to the original version of that song with your headphones on and turn it up it's going to take you to another galaxy.
Not just that song, but the whole album. Each of their first 7 albums takes you on a journey. IMO, the best way to listen to any of their first 7 albums is uninterrupted, and with headphones, you won't regret it. I've seen 3 of their concerts (live, of course) and have been a fan for over 50 years.
I always cry when I hear that song...it's a piece of art and the sound of a soul crying in the night. It cannot be covered by another band because it's perfect as it is. No one but Justin Heyward can sing that song. I'm soo glad you liked it!

The record label didn't want to do the album because they felt, "you can't dance to it". The lead singer replied, "but you can make love to it." Then suddenly they had a record deal.

Justin Hayward is so talented- songwriting, singing, a completely underrated guitarist and yes he is still singing and playing. The Moody Blues were such a phenomenal group, so underrated and in the late sixties and early seventies had seven incredible albums. “Days of Future Past” was released the same year as Sgt. Pepper and though a forever Beatle lover, I would take “Days” over “Pepper”. To Our Children’s Children’s Children “ dedicated to the moon landing in 1969, a true space album. John Lodge an incredible bass player and songwriter who would never appear on anyone’s list as a great player. This is my number one favorite song. Perfect love song he wrote this at 19 when his girlfriend gave him satin bed sheets as a gift. This song is a love that never lasted because of the long distance. And his love for her never stopped.
Nights in White Satin was in a class by itself… otherworldly, evocative. When I first heard it, my brain said I was listening to “Knights In White Satin” .
I have loved this band for several years. They are very, very good. A moving band. Several years ago I got to see them in Raleigh NC. One of the best concerts I have been to. Powerful. Hauntingly beautiful. EPIC!
It's called a symphony orchestra the full version of this has a poem at the end. Moody Blues was known for the orchestra within their performance it was a real pleasure to watch and feel during a performance.
He wrote this young, a girlfriend gave him satin sheets. It later became the best song of the Moody Blues...You have to see them in concert, the feelings, the vibes. They were voted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame recently. Nights in White Satin, Ride my See Saw, Tuesday Afternoon, I'm just a singer in a rock and roll band. to name a few.
Someone I knew was a drummer in a band going nowhere so he left and got an apprenticeship in a local factory. Eight months later that band were at no.1 with “Go now” yes, the Moody Blues, true story.
according to my mother i came out the womb singing this song and i cant help myself fans will understand cold hearted orb that rules the night removing color from all sight ............ miss empress i must also say i find an amazing beauty aesthetically you are a gorgeous woman
Like you, everyone l hear this song l have tears and lm a 65 yr old male. I remember when the song first came out. Soo beautiful and looks of memories.
An angelic song that is almost 60 years old…very emotional for me getting to see this live in Atlanta, Georgia twice with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. You have a great heart,my dear…keep it up.You will break 100k soon.
You have such a beautiful face. Your reactions are so natural and honest. I really enjoy watching your reactions. Thank you! I remember when The Moody Blues were playing in the city I lived in. I was working at the theater at the time and had the opportunity to work the show. I helped unload the trucks and set up the stage and instruments. The stage manager knew that I was a fan and asked me if I wanted to stay back to watch the show. 😂 It didn't take a hot second for me to say, "Yes!!"! LOL! They sounded just as good as they did when they first became famous. Age may have mellowed their voices, but the power and the messages still rang strong. That will be a treasured memory that I will never forget. (that was such a cool job!) 😊 Thank you so much, Empress, for bringing that memory forward for me. (p.s., this song has often brought tears to my eyes... very emotional.) Cheers, from Saskatchewan, Canada.
I really like your reaction; I'm over 70 and every time I react like you do: for me, this song is eternal: when I listen to it, I really feel like I'm somewhere else: yes, it's wonderful and you wish it would never end.
Hi thx for the moody blues , I’m nearly 63 years old danish Viking , you brought back some memories from my school days , where each one of us , got to show the rest of the class , what music we loved , among them was Bee Gees , Doors , Beatles , Bob Dylan and my choice was Moody Blues , I admit I felt a little tear or two whit you , thx a lot for bringing up some good old memories from my childhood , your a beautiful lady who listen and feel whit your heart , keep up the good work dear and take good care of yourself.
the moody blues are STILL touring in the states. i saw them live in Adelaide South Australia, what was surprising was the audience ranged from children to octogenarian. all loving the music.even though 2 of the old band members have retired. the sound is still the same.
I have always connected this song with Whiter Shade of Pale too! Ever since I was a kid. It's like the songs are spiritually connected somehow. The British Invasion!!!
There is another song that is sung by the lead singer, Justin Hayward, as a solo artist that is an absolute, genuine must listen called Forever Autumn. It was written specifically for him because of this songfor a multi-artist concept musical album called Jeff Wayne's Musical Version Of The War Of The Worlds. I can guarantee you'll love it xxx
This guy, Justin Hayward, wrote this song and recorded it with the Moody Blues in the same yeaesr as Procol Harum recorded a Wither Shade of Pale. And yes he is still singing and his voice is still amazing.
The Moody blues from 1967 from the Days of Future past album "nights at White satin".. The Moody blues an amazing band that arrived during the British invasion era their first hit from 1964" go now".. other hits by The Moody blues include" ride my seesaw" Tuesday afternoon" nights in White satin" I'm just a singer in a rock and roll band"..
talent can never be replaced and i think that is why so many so called performers have to put on such a big show........thankyou for reacting to this song...much love and godbless.
Thats was ecstatic. As you say truly, a MASTERPIECE, and so you know how we felt about the Moody Blues in the 60s. There was really nothing to compare it to. Music was so changed by the British influence from the Beatles and beyond. There was a lot of drugs like pot and acid and so on that helped break down the barriers of the old music and we poured forth with the best 30 years of musical art fusion in history. 70s were crowning. Theres still some flashes of brilliance today but nothing like the Romance that blazed out of the baby boomers. The return of WW2 soldiers after so long time away from wives and lovers caused the baby boomers to appear over the next 10 years. By 1960 the youth had begun to enter into their teens and by 70 the older ones were young adults and in their PRIME. We are still following the trails that were blazed back in those dayz...Lovely reaction Empress
I heard this growing up and hadn’t heard it for years until it was on the Givenchy ad - when I listened to it for that first time in years I cried. Such a beautiful haunting song 😢
I remember my first dance with a classmate at a private party. To this song (and others, of course). God we were so young and in love all the time. First kiss during the dance.
I’m 66 and this has been my favorite band all my life. This is their best song and it’s known all over the world. The radio stations at first said it was too long to play but they forgot you can make love to it! 🥰
The Moody Blues were my favorite group when I was in college back in the day. I would lay on the floor in my dorm room, with speakers on either side of my head and get an emotional high from listening to their music. Welcome to Moody Blues music.
Hello Empress Joy-Jean, when a song enters your soul and brings you to tears, you connected to what the writer is saying. Never ever worry about your emotions about it, you never need to apologies to me or anyone. Because your tears are what is called RAW Emotion.
Justin indeed still sings. He sang this with passion. The string laden music evokes a great deal of emotion. It was a fantastic score. This was the beginning of progressive rock. Originally released in 1967.I think you were right about the comparison to Procol Harum. There is a feeling one gets…
Timeless!!! My wife and I fell in love with each other listening to Moody Blues songs like this over 50 years ago. True music speaks to your heart and soul - if you take the time to listen!
One of the greatest, yet often underrated bands of all time. Took decades, but they were finally admitted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
@Luuk Hulsman Agreed!!!!
Yes, the greatest group.
However I don’t think they really cared about being in the Hall of Fame.
This is an American thing and the rest of the world does not care.
@@BP-kx2ig Maybe so, but I cared.
@@cherylsyoutubies Cheryl - great that you did care. I am pleased that there are other Moody Blues fans out there
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is a joke, and they don't deserve to have a group of this quality in it.
Don't ever be sorry when you have a pure reaction to music. Crying means that the music has touched you.
But sneezing? lol
That's for sure. I've found myself crying almost every time I've heard it in concert and that's a lot.
This song busts me up when I haven't heard it for a while.
So glad I was born when I was, in '57.
I got to listen to the very best as they were coming out, brand new.
It was a magical time...
Same here!
When musicians sang about love and not hooking up. They did it with talent not gimmicks too.
incisive comment..
Been listening to this for over 30 yrs and I still get goose bumps. 🤩
Always use to think this was *_"Knights in White Satin"_* you know a noble quest borne of love committed to protecting love, worth enduring & never reaching the end....

Just one of the best songs ever written and performed. A timeless classic.

This version is shit compared to the recorded version.
The studio version is magic.
This is just ok.
Actually, should listen to the whole album, since all the songs go together!
i was 18 in 1975 and heard this song on the radio, no video no internet, was a hit then, and still a hit in 2023
If you like that you have got to listen to the original version of that song with your headphones on and turn it up it's going to take you to another galaxy.

I remember my first dance with a classmate at a private party. To this song (and others, of course). God we were so young and in love all the time. First kiss during the dance.
There are very few songs that make me cry, and this is one of them.
A timeless emotional classic.
I’m 66 and this has been my favorite band all my life. This is their best song and it’s known all over the world. The radio stations at first said it was too long to play but they forgot you can make love to it! 🥰
One of the most Epic love songs of mankind!!! Bravo to your emotional reactions
Hey girl don`t cry!!! It just means you really feel the music.......stunning band the moody blues from my home town....

You are a great emotional woman, you're just great.
Empress Joy-Jean You are beautiful with this song .
Justin Hayward is in a class all by himself, truly one of Rocks greatest performers.
Even later in their years. They sound great. Enjoy them. They many other amazing songs
He is still performing this solo in concert, 50 years later.
THIS IS the magic of the Moody Blues
The Moody Blues were my favorite group when I was in college back in the day. I would lay on the floor in my dorm room, with speakers on either side of my head and get an emotional high from listening to their music. Welcome to Moody Blues music.
I'm with you. This song and band asking with the orchestra, brought tears to my eyes. It touches you.
My favorite group when in college, 71-75. Days of Future Past is one of my favorite albums ever.
Amazing. I heard this song vocals and melody sampled for a dubstep song. Never imagined the original to be quite so beautiful as this.
One of the legends of Prog Rock. Tuesday Afternoon is another great song, just one of many.
Thank you for reacting and sharing yourself to an amazing band and bringing a song back from the past.
Beautiful song. The orchestra was amazing.
John Lennon described this as the greatest love song ever written.
