This isn't even a good review. Love Dave2D's reviews, but this one was a big miss. He skipped or glossed over nearly EVERYTHING good and obsessed over the negatives like crazy. Plus, he overblew the trackpad issue, the design is better than what he thinks, the weight is necessary for proper cooling and power, and the price is better than he mentioned. Again, Dave seems to have become more biased recently since the ROG Zephyrus G15 review (has many speaker and screen QC issues despite Dave praising the hell out of if) and the ROG Strix Scar 2021 review (the keyboard is so much better than the Alienware MX keyboard imo and other than the lack of a MUX switch, I disagree with his negative portions of that review, plus the speakers in my Scar are insanely good with no QC issues). He's not perfect, nobody is, but it seems like his reviews are not as good as they were back in 2015 - 2020 or so. Which is a shame because Lenovo knocked this Legion series out of the park this year.
"Even the rtx 3060 model comes with the 300 watt adapter" me being like: rtx 3060 at 125 watts draws more power than rtx 3070 at 125 watts? (both can max out at 140 watts). This logic reminds me of 1 kg of steel is heavier than 1 kg of feathers.
@@geraldhng8774 CPU could be about 55W short term, +140W GPU, +25W display, +5W fans, +40W USB, +10W to everything else (Motherboard, RAM, SSD, LEDs, Wi-Fi/Ethernet, Sound etc.), +10W voltage change/regulation losses to all of those This totals to: ~285W
@@catalinart Actually my first numbers weren't that accurate. I did some research and here are more accurate ones for this model: +140W GPU (RTX 3070), +76W CPU (5800H measured), +12,5W display, +5W fans, +13,5W USB-A ports(3), +10W USB-A "always on", +15W USB-C, +15W USB-C "with PD", +16W Motherboard (including voltage change/regulation losses to components) +12W to everything else (RAMs, SSDs, LEDs, Wi-Fi/Ethernet, Sound etc.) This totals to: 315W But of course in typical use this kind of power draw doesn't happen. With no drain in USB ports the maximum power consumption is already below 260W. And I don't think the system allows quite that 260W simultaneously (without drain from USB). But the numbers are pretty accurate for maximum that could happen if not limited by the system. Still in heavy use something like a 240W PSU could be too strained at times.
Thank you for the review. I just bought the 32GB RAM version. For me the weight is not a problem I use my laptop as a desktop replacement. My first laptop (1997 Toshiba ) was 3,5 kg. That was heavy.
5:38 I have used this laptop for already a week and it is a beast. It’s performance, quality, and the aesthetics on the build design is amazing. I mainly use this laptop with a mouse and really the trackpad doesn’t really move the mouse when I’m using the W-A-S-D keys. Like when in this Video he said that it will cause the mouse to move with your palm or risk, it was completely cap because it doesn’t move at all when I am using these keys. Other than that great review of the laptop! Also happy New Years!
Can you talk about the reliability and durability of this thing? Cuz I have to buy and people told me that don't buy LENOVO because their laptops are more on wackier side and they would never buy lenovo laptop if I want something that can last like 4+ Years. Go for MSI and ASUS instead. Can you confirm if this is true? Or does this particular model can last 4+ years on normal use?
@@yashaswikulshreshtha1588 Well now I have had this laptop for around 4 months now and it is still perfectly fine. It runs well and the built of the laptop is still great. It runs really good with the majority of softwares and it runs well with even COD war zone, which in most pc’s take up a lot of storage. But this one is excellent with keeping up with the storage. And I am almost certain that this laptop and can last most likely more than 4 years. Like I have like 16 games that are pretty big files and my 16.0 GB of storage runs smoothly. I think that this is one of the top of the line laptops right now. And idk what your friends said about Lenovo devices are bad, but this thing is a BEAST.
@@yashaswikulshreshtha1588 and then durability of this devices is nice, it has a strong built that can stay intact. But like any laptop or computer, you have to be very careful with it. For example I have been pretty careful and it doesn’t have any pieces coming off or any scratches.
Multiple other reviewers have pointed out that the touchpad placement is not a problem at all, it's just that the touchpad size is a little larger than others, but it NEVER caused accidental touches while typing. People really depend on reviews provided by you and take your word for it. I hurts me to see when somebody who's as much admired as you are in the tech review industry, you're not giving a correct review. I respect that you share your opinions on the look and exterior too, and have no problem because it is subjective... But something like the touchpad issue is not acceptable from a reviewer of your stature. I'm so fired up, because the entire video, you primarily focused on 'experience' of the laptop and you had 3 issues to report; the bad touchpad placement, the derpy look, and the massive charging brick. Now out of those three, one is subjective (no problem with that), and one is incorrect (which was verified by multiple reviewers, citing it as not being a problem at all) Many people look at your reviews to make big purchase decisions and I'm sad to say I'm disappointed.
I agree with you bro..Own a L5P and its been absolutely worthwhile..!! The funny thing is he never mentioned a single advantage that comes with a gorgeous display, perfomance and cooling system L5PO comes along with
Weird, I've definitely had problems with it. Maybe it's just hand shape/size/positioning because I've even had clicks register while typing which can be quite inconvenient.
In fact in some contries or regions, this series of Laptops has been called the Y Series instead of Legion for over 10 years, so that could partially explain the Logo design.
Love your review mate. :) I think reviewers talk way to little about charger size/weight. I went from a 2kg gaming laptop to a 1.2kg ultrabook thinking that the weight difference would be substantial. But It wasn't really until I catered in the charger weight that I realized how massive the difference was. Going from a chunky 165W adapter to a tiny 45W adapter was really what made it shift seem like a gigantic step towards portability.
Each to their own but this review feels a bit negative and nitpicky for a video from Dave, normally he'll straight up admit when he's nitpicking. The lid logo is a bit wank (it can be turned off) but is much less flashy than the ROG he had a 2:04, its also a bit a niche issue, how many owners are actually using these in a situation where looks matter that much. The power adapter is big for sure but its the sort you'd only use at home when gaming, if you were taking this to work most would certainly use the USB-C charging, (interestingly some of the marketing guff says it comes with the smaller 230w adapter, supply issues?). As for the touch pad, I dont think he actually gamed with it, I haven't had any issues with palm rejection in any games that use the WASD keys, I haven't even felt the edge of the touchpad.
How is saying the power adapter being a bit large nitpicking? The whole point of buying a gaming laptop is so you can bring it places to game. If I wanted to game at home, I would use my gaming PC.
The joys of life without a table. Awkwardly holds arm under the other. Expresses more with hands. Has to constantly hold laptop or have it behind on wheeled draws.
Hey everyone ive got my 5 pro yesterday with the 3060. The thing i noticed straight from the box that yes it comes with bigger adapter its 300 watt yes its on the heavier side. The second one is the trackpad me personally i dont find problems with rubbing againts my palm as it wont move the cursor a bit and only my finger will do so thats not a problem, the third one is about the design, yes its kinda on the gamery side but i love the y logo to just turn off and nobody will notice it (fn+l key) its still looks sleek and professional when u turn that off. Overall the build quality is good, the metal is almost everywhere, the charging tho even tho its big, it support rapid charging i get full battery with only 1 hour and 10 minuter from 4-99% which is super fast and i appreaciate it. So if u wanna look for some price to performance device that's almost like a desktop this 5 pro is the one that'll get you thru the day. And ow yeah the screen is excellent.
Bought this laptop to replace my desktop gaming pc AND work laptop. It's an absolute beast. I use it with an external keyboard and mouse and external monitor. Can recommend.
@@zuu2051 Thermals are okay-ish; CPU and GPU run 85-90C under load and 40C when idle, which is what you can expect from a laptop. What I did notice tho, is that the fans get clogged with dust very easily. I have had this laptop for about 9 months now and I have to clean the inside of the laptop for the second time now. And the battery life deteriorates really rapid too. My battery lasts for about 2-3 hours, which is not that great.
I have been nothing but very much satisfied with legion series laptop. Bought mine back in 2019, and still after all this time packs a hefty punch, works the same way it worked on my first day, and be certain I used it a lot both for my work as well for heavy games.
I am coming in way late here, but wanted to say I enjoyed the review. I recently purchased one. The downsides: Weight? Who cares I can handle 7lbs, worst case it's a tiny workout. Trackpad? Who uses a trackpad on a gaming laptop? The logo?! I work in IT, if I ever use it for work I may find another gaming buddy. So ya, if those are the negatives? We're good.
@@niamhlynn5213 i mean just wait it out, if you really can deal the wait. Mine's delayed too but i will wait or rather save up for a better alternative at the time.
I love how Dave always gives his own personal perspective on these devices. Even if I or any other viewer doesn't always agree. For the record I don't think it's too "gamery" sure it has a rgb logo but it's kinda muted I mean its just three lines with a single dull color. It's not any more attention gathering than any company logos (simple without rgb) other companies put.
i know the video is old. I really like the more "gamer-look" with the lighting. If they want to market to people who are serious about gaming then lighting is just part of the mainstream culture.
A tip for anyone planning to use this for something like university or frequent travel; i wouldn't underestimate the weight factor when considering a laptop like this. As someone that went through uni with a similar chunky laptop/massive power brick, while you can get by with it you'll most definitely be wishing you went for something lighter after not too long. Sometimes those kind of small factors can make a huge difference to how pleasant your experience is with a device over a longer period of time.
@@lockhandel Depends; for most uni degrees you could get by with most things a cheap chromebook, but some will involve work that requires decent processing power. Also for either case program compatibility is an issue; like if you can't access software such as endnote on a chromebook thats a deal breaker, because there's no way in hell im gonna do referencing for assignments manually.

I had a Lenovo 5 from 2019 and loved it but a few weeks ago I decided to for a change and bought an Asus Tuff A15 which I quickly returned then bought the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro Gen 6. All is well now 🤗
Iiiiii don't care if it looks gamer-ish, it's well priced for the specs. I also like that logo aesthetically. But I'm also a 3d sculptor. I can see where taking this to a more formal office setting could look a bit more silly.
For me the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro is at the moment the best Performance Value Gaming notebook. The combination with the AMD Ryzen 7 5800h + RTX3070 140W and integrated MUX Switch!!! makes it better then any other and it's truly a beast. I'm still waiting for Intel's 11th Gen with RTX3000 Series, what I heard it should outperform Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 9.

1600$ isn't that expensive though, I bought my acer predator 5 years ago and paid little over 2000$, and I saved up money for a year and a half, worked, paid rent, bills, etc. These days however I'm having too big expenses to be save up money, because I was eyeing an alienware with a 3080, but that's over 5000$. And before people say something I earn about 700$ a month, and more than half go on bills and rent. Other half on food and other expenses, so yeah, not too easy to save up.

Its just less cost for making diff power adaptors
3060 has a tdp of 130w and 3070 has tdp of 140w on the legion 5 pros, but yeah they can be powered with just a 240w brick.
@@geraldhng8774 CPU could be about 55W short term,
+140W GPU,
+25W display,
+5W fans,
+40W USB,
+10W to everything else (Motherboard, RAM, SSD, LEDs, Wi-Fi/Ethernet, Sound etc.),
+10W voltage change/regulation losses to all of those
This totals to: ~285W
@@tkermi thanks for that info!
@@catalinart Actually my first numbers weren't that accurate. I did some research and here are more accurate ones for this model:
+140W GPU (RTX 3070),
+76W CPU (5800H measured),
+12,5W display,
+5W fans,
+13,5W USB-A ports(3),
+10W USB-A "always on",
+15W USB-C,
+15W USB-C "with PD",
+16W Motherboard (including voltage change/regulation losses to components)
+12W to everything else (RAMs, SSDs, LEDs, Wi-Fi/Ethernet, Sound etc.)
This totals to: 315W
But of course in typical use this kind of power draw doesn't happen. With no drain in USB ports the maximum power consumption is already below 260W.
And I don't think the system allows quite that 260W simultaneously (without drain from USB). But the numbers are pretty accurate for maximum that could happen if not limited by the system. Still in heavy use something like a 240W PSU could be too strained at times.
this studio really is so dave’s style, loving it!
by the way this desk to standing ratio is nice!
Didn't mentioned the 'Stingray White' version ?!?

First proper video in new studio
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
5:38 I have used this laptop for already a week and it is a beast. It’s performance, quality, and the aesthetics on the build design is amazing.
I mainly use this laptop with a mouse and really the trackpad doesn’t really move the mouse when I’m using the W-A-S-D keys. Like when in this Video he said that it will cause the mouse to move with your palm or risk, it was completely cap because it doesn’t move at all when I am using these keys. Other than that great review of the laptop! Also happy New Years!
Can confirm, palm rejection is *very* good
It doesn't do full RGB 4k 10bcp tho.
For example I have been pretty careful and it doesn’t have any pieces coming off or any scratches.
literally a gaming laptop
Dave : I'm going to keep the technical portion of this review short, lets talk about weight and logo...
Wow I can’t believe they pulled that move with the gamery aesthetics.
Ikr with the bulky chassis it's got it all
I thought that looked sleek, nice looking logo
@@skyhappy way too BIG, make it 10x times smaller and it would look really nice!
ikr, the previous y5 series looked soo much better they also gave option to change fan rpm with the y540 but later removed it for some reason
i think the best thing to do would to just cover it with a skin
Now out of those three, one is subjective (no problem with that), and one is incorrect (which was verified by multiple reviewers, citing it as not being a problem at all)
Many people look at your reviews to make big purchase decisions and I'm sad to say I'm disappointed.
Yes, it’s true. From my 3 month’s usage, I can guarantee that I have never accidentally touched the touchpad while typing and gaming. Never for once.
@@neole894 I'm thinking about getting one, are you impressed with yours so far?
@@pramay5116 absolutely. I used it on a daily basis and even play VR games on it. I highly recommend you buying this laptop
I agree with you bro..Own a L5P and its been absolutely worthwhile..!!
The funny thing is he never mentioned a single advantage that comes with a gorgeous display, perfomance and cooling system L5PO comes along with
Weird, I've definitely had problems with it. Maybe it's just hand shape/size/positioning because I've even had clicks register while typing which can be quite inconvenient.
can we talk about that amazing (and still ultra minimal) intro?
just awesome, and I don't even stan mortal wombat
I just imagined mortal combat but with wombats, thanks for that.
One other benefit to 16:10 displays is that it means there's space for a larger trackpad. Yes its a side-effect, but its still kind of awesome.
it might make the keyboard a bit far away from the front though sometimes, like what looks to be the case here.
Watching from my Legion 5 Pro. A BEAST!
Now all we need is battery technology to reach its peak and we would be in the golden age of laptop gaming
I ordered the Legion 5 for my birthday, based on your recommendation. I'm so excited 😊
I have the last gen and I think this machine is the best in terms of value and performance.
What has it been like ?
I'm thinking of getting one this week.
In fact in some contries or regions, this series of Laptops has been called the Y Series instead of Legion for over 10 years, so that could partially explain the Logo design.
Legion sounds wayyyy cooler.
3:47 Raising the lid that subtle is a nice touch to show it without saying it :D

Dave's intro animations are back. You love to see it.
the fact that this video didn’t start with an “okay” or “alright”
That logo is very nice. Not like dragons and some other crap. I think it is very minimalistic and sleak

Can recommend.
man please tell your experience about thermal
We're good.
I just love how grounded and relatable this guy is! You always picks the best topics.

Day1: This studio will be a no desk set up.
Day2: Reviews laptop on a desk XD
Oh wow. The new studio is sick. Loving the minimalism.
Sometimes those kind of small factors can make a huge difference to how pleasant your experience is with a device over a longer period of time.
thanks man
my opinion to everyone (u can disagree): get a cheap-ass chromebook for uni/school. Get a laptop/pc for home.

The combination with the AMD Ryzen 7 5800h + RTX3070 140W and integrated MUX Switch!!! makes it better then any other and it's truly a beast.
