I've been looking for this song for a few decades and went through countless "na na na " song lists. I was way off on the lyrics, and the nationality. I thought they might be Scottish, but was pleasantly surprised that they are from Quebec.
It was 1992. My roommate was a dj at a local pub in Las Vegas. His brother was a bigtime radio jock back then, and he would give him the demos of bands that he didn't play on air. My roomy would play songs off of The Pleasure and the Pain at the bar on Friday nights. He eventually gave me the cd and I would listen to it front to back many times. There's not a bad song it. That's rare for any band. Years later I gave it to my 20yo son who loved it. I still have a copy of it on my hard drive. I could never find a follow up album. I thought they disbanded.
@@billrea66 Men at Work from Australia were better known than Men Without Hats. I figure The Box should be at least as well known as the Australian band. That's how badly The Box were robbed.
I love this band. They should have gone far it's a crime they did not. I had the pleasure of seeing them in concert back in the day as the opening act for what was at the time a really big name band. The Box blew them out of the water, so much so that the headliners were booed off the stage. My favorite 80's band, period. Thanks for the upload.
Anyone, especially Canadians, who never experienced The Box live don't know what they're missing. The Box are a a Canadian gem. Ever heard "Safety Dance" ? Well that is really The Box...as a member of that band is related! All good.
"Good bye mon ami I will very much miss your love". A made in Quebec moment. I got my 14 year old humming the melody.... Beautiful landscape of sound not to mention the unique voice of Jean-Marc. As a musician in the Montreal mid-80's scene I add total respect for The Box and their music. Luv you guys.
My fav by them, it is played no less than 4xs a week, and I ALWAYS turn it up really loud at the beginning for the drum intro. The entire song is pure nostalgia to me.
Oh nostalgia!!! Great Canadian band and I love the frozen images of the musicians... Frozen in time when music was awesome! Thank you guys for bringing me back to 1988 😉
The Box is great, brings back good memories. Any of you 70’s-80’s Quebecois remember a band called De Kloxx? They had a song played on CKGM called “Lucie Lucie”. Even though it was sung in French it was my favorite song as a nine year old. Would love to hear it again.
Ahh... Memories of Tim Hortons' overnights, waiting on the local radio station to play this song on the All-Night Dance Party. This is my favourite Box song.
omg. cuts right through. this band was equally adored by my mum and brother and i.... truly one of my favourite nostalgia bands. I feel 9 years old right now
Crying Out Loud for Love The Box There s a long road by the coast There s an old tree standing tall There s a strayed house in the field And the tall weeds in the wind Feel, feel the wind again Make it your own, empty your soul Can t you see that you don t have to say Not even a word to get through to me? I see all around All the majesty of those simple things I know I felt for you I can feel your presence everywhere Oh feel, feel the wind again Make it your own, empty your soul Can t you see that you don t have to say Not even a word to get through to me? I grew up on the farm with my grandparents a lifetime ago,all grandpa ever did was to try and keep me on the farm ,all I wanted to do was get away,I remember watching this video on video hits with samantha after school, every time I hear this song it takes me back,my grandparents have long gone as well as the farm most of my aunt's and uncles as well,I should have listened and stayed.
You did what you had to do. Also for sure deep down inside, your family knew it too and that it's a normal and expected factor to occur. You have your life to live too. God bless
I was a fan then, and now, I owned that greatest hit cd and wore it out. They were a great 80's-90's band. I would love to see these guys in my hometowns annual retro concert.
I'm guessing that someone watched that movie ( which was very popular and even won an academy award that year ) and when writing this song 4-5 years later it just seemed vaguely familiar. The first four bars are exactly the same, even the space placed between the notes for the rest. That's a little more than coincidental. It's identical all except for the tempo. On paper, note-wise it's the same song. I watched the movie in the 90's and the theme song seemed familiar to me and then I found myself singing the words to this song which I'd heard years earlier.
I'm a viewer from Grand Rapids, MI.& I'm developing a like for Canadian music..!!!
Glad you like our music, this is another great song from them

The Ville-Marie highway AND the Jacques-Cartier bridge almost empty of vehicles? Yes kids, the 1980s were different times.

I had forgotten what a good band The Box were. It's a shame they never broke out of Canada, they deserved an international audience.
The Box was robbed. They deserved to be at least as well known as Men at Work.
You mean " Men without hats "? Made their fame in Belgium . Hence Unibroue .
Men At Work were not even that well known lol
If it makes you feel any better, I love them both the same.

Underrated Canadian classic!
Tenía este tema grabado en un cassette en 1987, pase como 25 años buscándolo, hasta que un veterano que sabía de música lo encontró. Es excelente!
And I’m back for this AGAIN!!!!
again and again... so true
This band should've gotten way more recognition. They put out songs that we could never get enough of. :-)
A band with great music, talented & never known.
Merci Jean-Marc pour tous I love the box

In the first minute, it shows passing an old homestead, I grew up next door to it, Young's Cove, NB Canada
An exquisite song with such passion in the lyrics. There is a lovely flow to the melodies, and the video matches it perfectly.

The box was ahead of it's time, they would have done much better around today, or even 10 years ago. Truly a great Canadian Band!

Crying Out Loud for Love
The Box
There s a long road by the coast
There s an old tree standing tall
There s a strayed house in the field
And the tall weeds in the wind
Feel, feel the wind again
Make it your own, empty your soul
Can t you see that you don t have to say
Not even a word to get through to me?
I see all around
All the majesty of those simple things
I know I felt for you
I can feel your presence everywhere
Oh feel, feel the wind again
Make it your own, empty your soul
Can t you see that you don t have to say
Not even a word to get through to me?
(CHORUS)
Cause I m crying out loud for love
(For love)
And there s a hundred different ways of crying out loud
Oh, I m crying out loud for love
(For love)
And the beauty of the land speaks for me
Speaks for me
Goodbye, mon ami
I will very much miss your love
And the cold colors of the land
When the sun has yet to die again
Oh feel, feel the wind again
Make it your own, empty your soul
Can t you see that you don t have to say
Not even a word to get through to me?
(CHORUS)
Cause I m crying out loud for love
(For love)
And there s a hundred different ways of crying out loud
Oh, I m crying out loud for love
(For love)

A Canadian Gem. I can't believe only 9500 people have had the fortune to view this video.
Top notch stuff.
I just realized the simple melody he hums at the beginning has a east coast, Nova Scotia or Newfoundland folk sound to it
Syd Barrett It's actually 'L'enfant' by Vangelis from 'The year of living dangerously'.
Do you know this for a fact? Or just what you think (which may be true, but there's a difference)
If you look closely at the video, you'll see two of the ferries that used to run between PEI and NB!
