Great tip ! Going to do that on my skid plate and will install 1/4-20 nut rivets so I can mount that plate back after I change the filter. So it looks factory.
Got to do my first oil change without removing skid pan. Hole doesn't line up perfectly but no matter. You can still easily remove filters with one hand. I place a rag on pan under filter to catch oil dribble.

I’m totally doing that, I absolutely dread oil changes on my 4runner every time because of that damn plate.
Same here. I can't believe Toyota didn't think to make an access cover or hole. Looks stock n clean when you put the skid plate on for the last time.
