As a retired police officer I've seen more suicides then the average person. One thing that I learned through it all was, they didn't want to die; they just wanted the pain to stop. The pain could be anything, illness, finances, fear, loneliness. The list is endless. RIP Robin Williams.
Dark Side Of The Menu I cannot thank you enough for the service you have provided the public. I cannot fathom how you keep your emotions apart from the sometimes very painful things you have to see. Thanks for your input and of course, your service.☺
....I once met Robin here in New York City outside of the Letterman Show. In those days there was no police barricade and a group of us politely said hi to him. I put my hand on his left shoulder. We were all telling him we were fans of and he seemed like a scared child. I could see it in his eyes. He couldn't even speak from the fright. It was just me in my 20s and other people in their 20s, 30, and 40s. Even a few old ladies were saying hi to him. You could see and feel he sensitivity and kindness. He seemed like a priest or something. LOL. It was so different from the confident guy who would curse on stage. I will never forget that moment we spent with the legend Robin Williams. RIP.
He Was Truly A Comic Genius Ahead Of His Time And Will Be Sadly Missed But Forever Lives On Our Hearts. R.I.P. Robin Williams (1951-2014)Gone, But Not Forgotten.
I just saw the episode "Dr Morkenstein" this morning on RewindTV. His Orson Report will break you....he created a robot and the robot dies in the end. Seeing Robin/Mork truly break down talking of his friend is heartbreaking. It sounds just how we feel about losing our beloved Robin.
Saw this episode for the first time a couple of months ago and was reminded of the summer day when I passed him on campus while he was filming Patch Adams. I wanted so much to meet him, and I'd waited for a while to do so, but a PA announced to the crowd that he was exhausted after so much filming, and the best way we could show appreciation was to let him go get some rest. It saddened me how many people still rushed up to him after the filming trying to talk to him, get his autograph, or in some other way as Mork says, get a piece of him. I've never really regretted walking away and doing my little part to make sure he got some peace.
1:20 The ending of that brilliant episode of Mork and Mindy was moving and powerful when Mork mentions the names of the deceased celebrities and breaks down when he mentions John Lennon.
I will love you Robin until my last breath. You were amazing, funny, kind, sweet, caring, loved and so much more. When I saw the clip of Robin and the gorilla I saw how precious he truly was. He looked at the gorilla the way the world looked at him. He was so much more than a comedian and he will be loved and truly missed. As long as we have his shows, movies and comedy shows he'll live forever 💕💕😃😘💕💕
I loved these ending bits at the end of the episodes, even as a kid. (Even if the show was before my time.) It was unique to see the main character reflect on the things they learned that episode, and offer some perspective, and depth, even when presented in a humorous way. The show was in some ways intelligent for that, and it kinda taught me to think, consider, and reflect on things I experienced too.
Years later & I still can't fathom how someone who gave me so many years of entertainment & laughter was himself in so much pain & sadness. RIP Robin. Thank You.
This just gave my chills and a lump in my throat. I myself have struggled with depression and I did eventually get help but not everyone is the same. R.I.P Roby. Your not in pain anymore
Phuckyutube Assasshoes Yes I did. Missed urs too. For someone who's obviously looking to stick up for someone else, u made a quick, spineless comment rather than a point. Even ur name is a contradiction...u hate RUclips so much yet here u are patronizing.
Soon after Robin Williams died I started watching this show, and when I saw this episode it really made sense how he was feeling. Even back then he was fighting depression, and in the end he failed.

I just wish that Robin would know the outpour of love the public had for him and the whole world was in shock at his passing. I was so lucky in 1985 to have shook his hand one night at the back of the Comedy Store. Brilliant human being, so missed by the world.
First time I heard of Robin Williams was when I listened to his record album in the late 1970's titled "Reality, what a concept" classic Robin Williams. Terrible the way he went out, quite a shock, RIP.
hey Dirk, you meet Clive Cussler? He sat down next to me in a bar in Spokane WA and ordered a Remy Martin. Introduced himself very humbly and showed me his new car. WOW!
And Robin Williams... R.I.P. Robin Williams. "Mork" was a start - which was done very well - which made SO many others! Thank You...I wished I could have talked to you...

I just watched this episode for the first time on PlutoTV; truth be told, when they meet Robin, you can see he's already in pain. I thought this was the episode when John Belushi possibly passed away recently. This episode aired Feb 1981, 2mo after Lennon was killed. And a little after a year, JB will pass away as well. 😔
I fail to see how it is ironic. The writers wrote a script about the price of fame to capitalize on the recent death of John Lennon. There is nothing to suggest that Robin William's fame had anything to do with his death.
He was already a major star by this time (this was from the third season of "Mork & Mindy"), but he had nothing to do with this speech. This episode was written in tribute to John Lennon, who had been murdered just a few weeks before.
MaskedMan66 a long time ago bakeries such as hostess started selling bread in grocery stores pre-sliced. It was super convenient for housewives and a fantastic idea. So whenever a great idea comes along the phrase goes, "that's the greatest thing to happen since sliced bread". I used it a lil differently to add humor like many other people who understand this phrase. but unfortunately your mind is taking the whole thing completely literally.. that's the best explanation I can give you.. sorry kid.. :(
And that is precisely where you've shown that you don't understand the phrase. Sliced bread was a wonderful innovation, therefore any innovation or wonderful thing gets called "the greatest thing since sliced bread." Your adaptation, however, falls flat because there is nothing intrinsically funny about sliced bread. You have taken something that has a specific meaning and rendered it meaningless.

And Freddie Prinze's tragic departure affected CoStar Jack Albertson profoundly as well. The very talented Character Actor understandably never really recovered from the demise of someone that he considered a son.😔📺B.W.
used to see him at this vegetarian asian spot off 9th ave in SF and we would leave him alone because he always seemed sad and looked like he wanted to eat in peace. he dressed so unique too.
Such a pitty for such a person that was loved by millions but apparenly only on the screen because in his private life he was so depressed sensitive and lonely in pain at the end ....
I'm not sure why so many people are suggesting that Robin himself should be added to the list of people he spoke of. I'm not aware that he was ever a victim of his own fame. As for his suicide, that had nothing to do with his fame. He was dealing with something that none of us can judge him for, and made the decision to leave the pain behind. As much as I feel the pain of losing such a treasure of a human being, I can't say I think he made a mistake. Only he could decide whether the potential in his future was worth the pain of his present.
MaskedMan66, why is suicide always "a bad move"? If one is suffering from, let's say incurable cancer; if one's future holds nothing but pain; if one's future holds no realistic hope for being a productive or contributing member of society; if one's continued living would be a financial and emotional burden on one's family; if all these are true, why would suicide be a bad move? Indeed, how would suicide not be the most rational, reasonable choice? NOT choosing death would be choosing pain with no benefit, suffering with no merit. How is that better than a reasoned, mature, philosophical acceptance of reality, guided by the emotional and psychological maturity to take control of the situation to minimize future pain and loss?
+ssppeellll *smh* Here we go, the old "Oh, but he's in paaaaaiiiiinnn" gambit. Some people can face up to pain. Some people live with pain all their lives, but still enjoy life. And news flash: you don't HAVE to be a "productive or contributing member of society"; an illness that debilitating absolves you of any such responsibility. I mean, let's face it, if death was the recommendation for not being a "productive or contributing member of society," more than half of Earth's population would be dead. And people are more important than money. If it was a case of someone not wanting to be kept alive by machines, that's one thing. But to deliberately KILL oneself is a different matter altogether.
MM, let's look at one point from your latest comment at a time. 1. "Here we go, the old 'Oh, but he's in paaaaaiiiiinnn' gambit. Some people can face up to pain. Some people live with pain all their lives, but still enjoy life." Everyone's pain is different, and everyone's circumstances are different. In some cases, the individual can find happiness and enjoyment that trumps their pain. Sometimes they can't. Bottom line: No one is in a position to know another's pain. You are not omniscient, therefore you are not in a position to judge other people's decision to live or end their life. It's also none of your business. 2. "you don't HAVE to be a 'productive or contributing member of society'; an illness that debilitating absolves you of any such responsibility." Who said anything about responsibility? Not me! If one sees no value to continuing to live, to themselves or anyone else, and at the same time does see the pain, emotional and physical, that would result in continuing their lives, then ending their lives is not irrational--or a bad thing. This has nothing to do with responsibility. 3. "... if death was the recommendation for not being a 'productive or contributing member of society,' more than half of Earth's population would be dead." No one called it a recommendation. Except you. And if you really think half the world's population are not productive or contributing member of society, then you are woefully ignorant of how the rest of the world works. ("The rest of the world" = "not you") 4. "people are more important than money." Agreed. And also irrelevant. The point is that for some people, they may be in a situation in which a) They are suffering physical pain and mental anguish. b) Medical resources being devoted to keeping them in pain could be used for others who have a chance for a happy, satisfying, fulfilling, productive future. c) Money their family is spending to keep them in pain could be used for the well-being, education, quality of life, etc. of beloved children, spouses, etc. In other words, the two choices are: 1--Keep living. This is a lose-lose-lose situation. Everyone loses. 2--Stop living. This is a situation with multiple ... I won't say "winners," but multiple advantages: ending of suffering, supporting of lives. 5. "If it was a case of someone not wanting to be kept alive by machines, that's one thing. But to deliberately KILL oneself is a different matter altogether." Why? SUMMARY: 1. Stop making stuff up and pretending I said it. I didn't talk about responsibility; I didn't "recommend" suicide; I didn't suggest that money was more important than people. 2. If you are going to say anything more, please explain why the draining of medical and financial resources to extend a period of suffering is better than allowing a person the agency and control to bring their own pointless suffering to an end. The end loss is the same: a person dies. Explain how, if the only difference is the amount of suffering, more pain with no benefit is better than less pain.
Wow. This is the most Dramatic scene the Mork & Mindy ever shot. He named a lot of people who died! But, He DIDN'T NAME ROBIN WILLIAMS!!!R.I.P. Brother!🙏😢✝️✝️✝️

Dark Side Of The Menu thank you for your service sir.😉
Tom, actually Doctors and Dentists have a higher suicide rate than cops. And you should really learn how to turn off the caps lock key...

Dark Side Of The Menu Thank you for your lifelong dedication to our country. All the best in your retirement.
His tone of voice when he said"and john lennon". Made me cry,he was feeling it.
Because it had only been a matter of weeks since Lennon was murdered.
That epilogue was filmed only a few days after John Lennon's death. The shock of his death was still very fresh and obviously so for robin williams.
MARV I remember watching that episode. How eery indeed. RIP Robin Williams and thanks for the laughs.
I figured that out by the way Robin paused...even though I missed that episode. Sad to loose John and Robin like that.
+OhYeah?: Well, Elvis didn't actually commit suicide as much as drug himself to death, and John Lennon was murdered.
I remember that epiode when I wasa kid. I had no idea who John Lennon was till after he died.
lennon became steve jobs
Strange how someone you've never mett before. Feels like a lifelong friend when they leave this mortal coil.
R.I.P. Robin.

Betty Veronica , yes how tragically true.

I was just going to say that! :'(
He was a very thoughtful and deep man, despite his outward persona. He helped me grow up. Taught me the importance of laughter.

Same here. Very sad lesson in life. Rest in peace, Robin. 💓
I grew up in a world with Robin Williams... It’s definitely not the same without him :(
Jeff's Fort agreed. He was amazing and he always made me laugh. Mork And Mindy was my childhood favorite. Nanoo nanoo!
he took his magic with him.

This was NOT Mork's last report to Orson. This was from Season three's "Mork Meets Robin Williams". The show ran for four seasons.
Larry Lee Moniz Thank u Dr. Know-it-all. Ur enlightening comment is noted. Did u miss the point???
CRlocoman1989 Dr know it all also had a point. Did u miss it???

Soon after Robin Williams died I started watching this show, and when I saw this episode it really made sense how he was feeling. Even back then he was fighting depression, and in the end he failed.
in an episode where Mork "met" Robin Williams kinda sad we didn't realize he was talking about himself.
You do know that he didn't write this speech, right?
For the show "most" of the dialog for Mork was left absolutely "blank" by the writers as Robin Williams always did everything off the cuff.
+Thomas Boese Unless there was a specific point they wanted him to make, and then he followed the script. Bottom line, the point made in this scene was the intent of the writers.
+ emma duncan No need for quotation marks; Mork did meet Robin Williams. In the show, they both exist.
I just wish that Robin would know the outpour of love the public had for him and the whole world was in shock at his passing. I was so lucky in 1985 to have shook his hand one night at the back of the Comedy Store. Brilliant human being, so missed by the world.
I miss Robin. Not just his comedy but the personal touch he put into every character he portrayed. He was the comedian I connected with growing up.
the expression he when mention john lennon....maybe he had a dream he will get the curse the rest had
And the most chillingly accurate line in this Scene is "When You're a Celebrity, You can't leave Your Face at The Office."😔🎭B.W.
First time I heard of Robin Williams was when I listened to his record album in the late 1970's titled "Reality, what a concept" classic Robin Williams. Terrible the way he went out, quite a shock, RIP.
I feel like Robin was talking straight from the heart here
He was, but not about himself; the writers were paying tribute to John Lennon, who had been murdered only weeks before.
He can add Robin Williams to that list. He was a brilliant talent. He is missed. Continue to rest in eternity.
I wish no human being was in pain. RIP Robin Williams
Wow. Just wow.
He is loved n missed by many, including me!!!Robin Williams forever.
Wow just wow - amazing - as another wise man once said
“The more things change, the more they stay the same...” - Snake
Robin once said that cocaine is God's way of telling you that you are making too much money.
Well, all his jokes can't be winners.
hey Dirk, you meet Clive Cussler? He sat down next to me in a bar in Spokane WA and ordered a Remy Martin. Introduced himself very humbly and showed me his new car. WOW!
Sorry we made your life difficult, Robin. We just loved you and wanted more. We feel like we know celebrities, and that is our mistake. R.I.P.
I see why he played the Genie in Aladdin now R.I.P. king
He was DEFINITELY trying to tell us something of his own fear and pain. So incredibly sad.
The writers were telling a story and focusing on the recent death of John Lennon. Robin was reading a script.
Robin was a treasure and a gift. He is missed every day.
His fame didn't kill him . His body betrayed him .
What is the good of the strongest heart
In a body that's falling apart?
Along with two women who vowed to be there for him through thick or thin.
"Everybody just wants a piece of you" he said...
And Robin Williams...
R.I.P. Robin Williams. "Mork" was a start - which was done very well - which made SO many others!
Thank You...I wished I could have talked to you...
He'd been on one or two other T.V. shows, but it was Mork-- appearing on an episode of "Happy Days"-- that caught the public's attention.
Happy birthday, Robin x
You ain't never... had a... friend like meeeeeee!!!
Gave such joy to others, but for himself...
Wow, that was heavy
all these years later, that still hits hard. His passing left a hole in the world that we haven't been able to fill.
And Robin Williams..Rest in Peace
Spoken from the Heart....
Robin Williams added to that list for you Mork 👍
Sent shiver's up my spine...God I miss him. RIP Robin Williams XXXXXXOOOOO
Oh man, this made me cry. :-(
And Robin Williams.
1:22 RIP Robin Williams 1951 - 2014.
I miss you Robin Williams. May you R.I.P. 💜
... No words. RIP Robin Williams. 😞
I know how he felt just before he took his life. I been that low. If not for a good friend I not be here today. RIP YOU WERE ONE ALL TIME best. God bless you.
God bless you, sir, for sticking with life! You made the right decision.

& Robin Williams. R.I.P.
Miss you buddy
This is in a sad way foreshadows Robin Williams own death and Robin Williams did suffer from depression!!👍
He made so much that makes sense like this..
Holy shit I almost cried at the end
This would be a good prologue to Iron Maiden's "Tears of a Clown."
Wow....so sad!
Mork's actual last report was the whole of the final episode of the series. The episode title was, appropriately enough, "The Mork Report."
It was the last episode to after the 3 Part story where they were running from the evil Kelnick (sp). They used Mork's time traveling shoes and it was rumored they would be lost in the time stream had the show continued. The Mork Report might have been their attempt at a positive series finale.
@@bull705 The villain's name was Kalnik. :-)
That episode was filmed before the Gotta Run three parter. So technically by film date, that was the finale. It just aired after Gotta Run. If they did pick it up for a fifth season, then they probably would had resolved the chase saga during that season.

Wow. Who knew he would be in that place... Where he was so loved by many but incapable of enjoying it.

Robin Williams always be my fav..❤😢
I had a mork egg radio when I was little I didn't understand how it was picking up real time radio stations, an egg with a doll inside
I miss him
Damn. His genius will never be forgotten. Terribly missed.
Thanks for posting. rEvolution
Chilling!!!!
Sad and deeply moving. RIP, Mr. Williams.
Maybe Mr. Williams should've watched this before he did what he did. It might've saved his life.
Trust me Megan he knew what was coming. We didn't.
true
when you're in a dark place and demons get the better of your mind yeah it can happen there is a saying i made up.. it takes a coward to try to take you're own life.. but it takes strength and courage to stop

What's funny about sliced bread?

I'm not sure why so many people are suggesting that Robin himself should be added to the list of people he spoke of. I'm not aware that he was ever a victim of his own fame. As for his suicide, that had nothing to do with his fame. He was dealing with something that none of us can judge him for, and made the decision to leave the pain behind. As much as I feel the pain of losing such a treasure of a human being, I can't say I think he made a mistake. Only he could decide whether the potential in his future was worth the pain of his present.
It was a bad move. Suicide always is.
Some people live with pain all their lives, but still enjoy life."
Everyone's pain is different, and everyone's circumstances are different. In some cases, the individual can find happiness and enjoyment that trumps their pain. Sometimes they can't.
Bottom line: No one is in a position to know another's pain. You are not omniscient, therefore you are not in a position to judge other people's decision to live or end their life. It's also none of your business.
2. "you don't HAVE to be a 'productive or contributing member of society'; an illness that debilitating absolves you of any such responsibility."
Who said anything about responsibility? Not me!
If one sees no value to continuing to live, to themselves or anyone else, and at the same time does see the pain, emotional and physical, that would result in continuing their lives, then ending their lives is not irrational--or a bad thing.
This has nothing to do with responsibility.
3. "... if death was the recommendation for not being a 'productive or contributing member of society,' more than half of Earth's population would be dead."
No one called it a recommendation. Except you.
And if you really think half the world's population are not productive or contributing member of society, then you are woefully ignorant of how the rest of the world works. ("The rest of the world" = "not you")
4. "people are more important than money."
Agreed. And also irrelevant.
The point is that for some people, they may be in a situation in which
a) They are suffering physical pain and mental anguish.
b) Medical resources being devoted to keeping them in pain could be used for others who have a chance for a happy, satisfying, fulfilling, productive future.
c) Money their family is spending to keep them in pain could be used for the well-being, education, quality of life, etc. of beloved children, spouses, etc.
In other words, the two choices are:
1--Keep living.
But to deliberately KILL oneself is a different matter altogether."
Why?
SUMMARY:
Survival of the fittest instinct missing?
Even eerier the guy who Voiced "Orson" was an Actor named Ralph James. He himself passed away awhile ago.😔B.W.
