The next day, when Robin showed up on the set of Patch Adams, there was a surprise performance by the Glide Memorial choir. It was amazing. Robin so much deserved the highest honor of his profession, and I'll tell you how much he appreciated everyone who worked on his films. He wasnt like other actors in the biz, stand-offish or self-affected, he'd come up to a grip or a security guard, and ask, "How's it going Bob?" and know everyone by name and he made working on his films such an enjoyable and unforgettable experience. In fact, that day he showed up a little late after coming home to the bay area from the Oscars back to the set on the university of Cal-Berkeley, and at lunch he set his Oscar down in front of him. We were all overjoyed for him. I congratulated him and looked at the statue and said, "Can I hold it?" This was the fourth Robin Williams' film I had the pleasure of working on, so he just smiled and handed it to me. Wow! Talk about heavy. That thing weighed like 25 pounds. I handed it back to him and said, "Thanks Robin. Its about time they gave you one of these." He was on cloud nine that day. I think of him often and send Love to his amazing Soul. He was sui generis - absolutely one of a kind. The world needs more of his sense of humor and generosity (he was involved in numerous charities) and I hope he is at peace on the other side, because I know from conversations he certainly was bothered by the conditions and circumstances of the larger world around us. He gave his heart and soul to this world, and by the amount of appreciation his fans still give him, it was because he WASN'T 'acting' he truly enjoyed making people laugh. He was a magnificent example of charity and caring. I miss him.

That just left tears in my eyes. Robins emotion was so real but the loveliest moment was seeing billy crystal hug his old friend at the end. Thank u robin do so many wonderful memories
It's hard to believe he was suffering from depression for many years. You would never know, because of how great an actor he was. Rest in Peace, Robin Williams.
He had also been diagnosed with Parkinson’s, but *knew* something else was going on. He wanted to spare his family the journey of a diagnosis. As *heartbroken* as i was to hear he died, when i heard the autopsy results days later, i thought, “sh*t! I hope you are at peace.” Even now, i still think, “it’s just a bad dream. I’m going to wake up tomorrow, he’ll be alive and be fine.”
but he wasn't. he was suffering with depression very briefly as a symptom of a degenerating brain. along with dementia and other symptoms. this isn't a sad clown story and it is lazy to try and file him away under that archetype.
I remember the Oscars back when it wasn't an insult to watch but an opportunity to cheer for a favorite actor/actress in a great movie. Wow how hollyweird has changed.
I...think you've been watching Fox News instead of the Oscars. The Oscars happen once a year and it's the Academy's big wet kiss to itself and always has been. I think I know what has changed to you, but I'll leave that to you.
@@tomshea8382 I have no idea what you are trying to say but 20 years ago hollyweird definitely kissed itself and now the speeches criticize from on high. As for news I like the truth from my news if not I'd watch the brain washing CNN and its ilk.
@@robstan2668 You're an idiot either way, but ass-kissing and critical statements have both been happening at the Oscars for longer than you've been alive.
@@tomshea8382 I don't watch any corporate news, but I agree with what the guy is saying. The Oscars used to be about acting and movie production. It's now about social justice, which explains, perfectly, why nobody is watching the Oscars anymore. We used to turn on the Oscars to share in the joy of an actor winning an award. Now, it's not possible. Ergo, bye.
And then Jack Nickolson said to him, while holding his latest award, 'You know, Robbie, now I've got one for every decade'. True story, as told by Robin Williams.
After learning of Robin's death I remember how I watched this movie and how he was able to dig deep down into his soul and give such an unbelievable performance. It was then I realised that my initial thoughts about him in this movie were correct. When at times you see him poor it all out and really bare all for everyone to see. He wasn't acting. It was real life to him.
For Robin Williams to win this award and appreciate the significance of it, one has to see all the other performances of the actors he was up against. I absolutely loved all of their performances and was pleased Robin won, but boy howdy did Robert, Greg, Burt, and Anthony lay it out there! Billy is such a class act. I miss you Robin! Thank you for all the love, joy and laughter
Never seen this. So glad he won even years later. What a great guy.
In the years since, he said it was an interesting experience.
He said roughly three months later, folks were coming up to him, “Mork!”
This clip makes me cry . . .
I just tried NOT to cry. FAILED!
Me too Nita. I can honestly say that this is one celebrity that I miss having around. His genius made him, in my opinion, the funniest man I have ever seen. I had a personal interaction with him many, many years ago and he was genuine and just had a light to his eyes that made the room brighter. R.I.P, Robin.
Me too people......i enjoy the moment when he gets the oscar (very well deserved as outstandig professional actor) but i broke in tears when i saw the hug between him and Billy (the real friendship is like a wonderful brotherhood and never ends man!).....God bless his soul (r.i.p. great Robin) !! God bless Billy!! :)
Unforgettable. My favorite Robin Williams moment. So deserved.
Me too.
Robin Williams' performance in "Good Will Hunting" was what life is. People are precious, damaged and sustained by hope when the pain of life has almost conquered them. What a performance he gave.
you can see the passion radiating from him like a glow when he's giving his speech...amazing
I'm so happy that he won. Rest In Peace, Robin.
What a moment. And Billy Crystal just loved it for him. You can see everyone loved Robin. What a talent.
That just left tears in my eyes. Robins emotion was so real but the loveliest moment was seeing billy crystal hug his old friend at the end.
Thank u robin do so many wonderful memories
*This is a man who will ALWAYS be missed by those who loved and appreciated his amazing life and talents.*
Genuine love for each other and pride in each other's accomplishments. This is what we are missing in the world today.
Once in a lifetime actor, comedian and performer. There's only one Robin Williams. We miss and love you Robin.
We shall never see his like again in our lives.
We will always remember him - and miss him. He was a great actor and a great person. RIP.
SO WELL DESERVED...my youngest son still cries over this movie.....what an amazing performance!
This was a true beloved day. It will goes down in one of the Greatest performances ever.
I hope you are at peace.”
Even now, i still think, “it’s just a bad dream. I’m going to wake up tomorrow, he’ll be alive and be fine.”
but he wasn't. he was suffering with depression very briefly as a symptom of a degenerating brain. along with dementia and other symptoms. this isn't a sad clown story and it is lazy to try and file him away under that archetype.
my both fav Men Robin and billy u cant be more proud Miss u RW rip
I'd like to remember Robin Williams like this,, seemingly truly happy from the expression during his speech. The world is less bright without him.
I remember the Oscars back when it wasn't an insult to watch but an opportunity to cheer for a favorite actor/actress in a great movie. Wow how hollyweird has changed.
I miss those days.
Ergo, bye.
Miss him so very much 😔 and just love that happy & proud look on Billy's face seeing his buddy won 👍
And then Jack Nickolson said to him, while holding his latest award, 'You know, Robbie, now I've got one for every decade'. True story, as told by Robin Williams.
Robbo*
After learning of Robin's death I remember how I watched this movie and how he was able to dig deep down into his soul and give such an unbelievable performance. It was then I realised that my initial thoughts about him in this movie were correct. When at times you see him poor it all out and really bare all for everyone to see. He wasn't acting. It was real life to him.
I absolutely love how happy Anthony hopkins was when Robin williams won the Oscar, his reaction was great
You do realize Hopkins was not in the room, right? ^^'
Shhh. Don't ruin the illusion.
You could see and feel the genuine, heartfelt, gratitude from Robin.
One of his best performances no doubt. I really miss him ❤️
Loved Robin in all his acting roles. Good morning Viet Nam one of my favorites. WE LOVED YOU ROBIN. YOUR MISSED. GLO
It will be six years tomorrow and I still miss him. If there is a Heaven, and I’m lucky enough to go there, I can watch his stand up for eternity.
If heaven doesn't have Robin Williams stand-up, it's not worth going.
Gawd Mira is beautiful and talented. Epic clip. Thank you for sharing it.
He really did forget to thank his mother....... Gone but never forgotten - RIP Robin.
His opening line was the greatest omg 😂 😂 😂
You know all u good people around the world...…..Robin maybe gone and we all shed tears for that....BUT we are all so lucky to be around and lived with the greatest talent of our lives...TY robin for touching all of our Heart and Souls.....!!
I love how the Oscars showed actual clips from movies back then, rather than trailers. Was so happy to view Robin Williams again -- .always cracking jokes at 90 miles an hour! And I liked Billy Crystal talking about Comic Relief. Thanks for posting this!
RIP Mr. Williams, you were the best.
