Jack Nicholson is a legend. Love him. And Billy Crystal the best Oscar host ever. Nobody has even come close to his performances as host. Those were the days
Fun fact: both times Nicholson won Best Actor, his co-lead won Best Actress for the same film - Louise Fletcher in One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and Helen Hunt in As Good as it Gets.
Gustavo Horn also his supporting actor win for Terms of Endearment (another Jim Brookes film) for which Shirley MacClaine also won best leading actress.

He's the best and helps get the best out of whoever works with him
Best Actor: Jack Nicholson Best Actress: Helen Hunt Best Supporting Actor: Robin Williams Best Supporting Actress: Kim Basinger ...what a year for acting. 🥰
@@Fee212 As much as I completely agree with you, Robin Williams' most perfect blend of drama and comedy in a really sensitive movie with such sensitive subject matter is what sealed the deal. I absolutely loved Greg Kinnear in AGAIG - another one of my favourite movies - and there is no denying how brilliant he was with his own sensitive material, especially while playing a gay character in the 90's and playing one with so much heart and empathy. But Robin Williams' Sean to Matt Damon's Will was perfection that year. I'm also sorry Matt Damon lost for playing Will Hunting because doing what he did as an actor (and writer! where he won his Oscar! woo hoo!) is veeery difficult for most people, artists or not. On another note, I believe GWH should have won Best Picture. We all knew Titanic was gonna get it, but I've seen all five nominated films from that year and GWH is easily the Best Picture winner in my heart.
What a performance by Jack Nicholson. Helen Hunt was amazing as well. Just a great film all around. Jim Brooks figured out a way to make a film about mental illness a very serious subject I say from experience enjoyable with tears and laughs great performances and wonderful music. And Jack again stole so many scenes!!! Thank you!
Just adored Jack Nicholson in "Terms of Endearment" He was such an Angel/scoundrel with Shirley McClane. He is the best! Just brillant and handsome, he has such charisma. That smile of confidence does it every time. Like he always says "I Love You Too Kid" Boy is he loved!❤ ❤❤❤❤
an actor was so excited to be in a movie with captain jack and was thanking him profusely. Jack stared him down raised his sunglasses and proclaimed, "I don't make movies, I make classics."
He doesn't make a bad movie. He is one of the greatest actors in cinema. I liked as good as it gets and the witches of Eastwick performances the most but all were great.
“As good as it gets” is the perfect case story description of obsessive compulsive disorder and it turns out that real really can be the perfect reference for making scripts…:):):)
Jack Nicholson is amazing. And I really enjoyed the way he didn’t step on any of the lines in the floor when he went up on stage. I wonder how many people understood.
Jack was at a party in Hollywood one night and a woman asked "Would you like to dance Jack?" Jack said "Wrong verb honey!" and they weren't seen for the rest of the evening. 😊
1. Duvall - transformative performance; 1997 critics' fave for Best Leading Actor 2. Fonda - echoes of father Henry; understated yet great 3. Hoffman - committed performance 4. Nicholson - can do this in his sleep; the role is interesting though 5. Damon - discovery of 1997 Hollywood film year despite having been acting for several years (including 1996's Courage Under Fire)
Maybe it's just the day, or not, but I'm in tears here reminicing when I used to watch these ((Real) Academy Award Shows in the living room and with my Parents. Those were the days when Actors had Class, and.. Unlike today, those were the days when the Best of the Best, were also.. the 'Most Humblest.' And I Don't care if it makes me Old today because I'm the luckiest girl in the world that I have lived in the Same time as them, and..do consider it an honor. But now most are gone, as are my parents. And that living Room no longer sets the stage for Any Actress or Actor that could Ever come anywhere close, to the ones before them.. Not in any way shape or form. ❣️ 💔
Three times Oscar winner Jack Nicholson dedicated his winning to Robert Mitchum, and the Academy never gave Mitchum an honorary Oscar, and didn't gave him an award for The Night of the Hunter in 1955. Shame on the Academy!
Jesus Christ when you remember the entire Fonda family ate literal acting Titans, my god watching Peter’s small clip made me realize I forgot just how great he was
An absolutely brilliant actor...beyond perfection!!! And then there's Jack...rough around the edges and doesn't give a damn about what anyone really thinks of him (a rarity in the egotistical world of Hollywood), and just as charismatic and mesmerising as himself as he is as an actor.
At least two masterpieces released in the same year-wow, what a tough choice! Nowadays, it feels like there aren’t any films at the Oscars truly worth watching.
It’s kinda ironic Jack won his three Oscars essentially playing himself. But I think his three Oscars should have been for The Missouri Breaks, The Shining and Hoffa.
I ❤ As Good As It Gets. It might be one of my favorite romcoms of all time. It's so New York City. Loved it. And it would nice if the Academy Awards can be as magical as it was in these days. Bring back Bill Conti's music (Oscar melodies). Make great movies again. Make Oscsrs Great Again.
Jack Nicholson is a legend. Love him. And Billy Crystal the best Oscar host ever. Nobody has even come close to his performances as host. Those were the days
Billy was the best, I love him!
Absolutely 😂🎉❤❤
Jack is a National Treasure ❤ We can never get enough of him 🎯
Das stimmt!👍👏👏👏❤️
Still the coolest guy in the room! Miss seeing Jack on the big screen, hope he shows up again soon.
👍👏👏👏❤️
Jack is loved so much
He's retired now 😢
There is NOBODY like Jack Nicholson. He’s a delight to watch whether on film or as himself. I have to smile every time he speaks.
me too
Totally agree!!!!!!!
No kidding, he’s himself and the only one. He doesn’t have a twin either do any other great actors and actresses.
I worry about him
Matt Damon, Robert Duvall, Jack Nicholson Dustin Hoffman, Peter Fonda. wow
That list in 1997 could also easily have included Al Pacino, Leonardo DiCaprio, Samuel L Jackson, and Michael Douglas. Good year!
Yes an absolutely amazing list of complete A listers.
Jack Nicholson is one of the few who can be called 'legend'
Fonda, Duvall and Hoffman are all legends. Intact Fonda gave Nicholson his big break in Easy Rider.
@@kevinoconnor4102Right.
But Nicholson is de King of Legends.
Yes, there are so few of us
Fun fact: both times Nicholson won Best Actor, his co-lead won Best Actress for the same film - Louise Fletcher in One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest, and Helen Hunt in As Good as it Gets.
Gustavo Horn also his supporting actor win for Terms of Endearment (another Jim Brookes film) for which Shirley MacClaine also won best leading actress.
He's the best and helps get the best out of whoever works with him
Fun fact..... he never mentioned Milos Forman in his speech , when he won first best actor. Not good.
Interesting fact.
Did he mention Helen Hunt?
Thank you Jack Nicholson for "As good as it gets".
You know he beats up women right? Don’t hero worship this loser.
Best Actor: Jack Nicholson
Best Actress: Helen Hunt
Best Supporting Actor: Robin Williams
Best Supporting Actress: Kim Basinger
...what a year for acting. 🥰
Greg Kinnear should have won Best Supporting Actor. 😮
@Fee212 Kinnear was great but Robin Williams deserved it

Life long Jack fan here and so glad he notched up this one. But I soooooooooo loved Bobby Duvall in 'The Apostle.' Great film, great performance!
There are few that are in his league, but Duvall and Gene Hackman are on that same starting team.
@@EgbertWilliams.Right on.
Love Jack Nicholson but Duvall deserves it this year.
His performance in the Apostle was revelatory
@@alexandrel.9083 yes The Apostle was very underrated. Incredible performance.
What a performance by Jack Nicholson. Helen Hunt was amazing as well. Just a great film all around. I have always loved Jack Nicholson. Always.
👍👏👏👏❤️
Jack Nicholson is also my FAVE
Same. I love his monologue in the church in witches of eastwick
Those were all really good actors and movies wish they made more like that today
Jack could read the back of a cereal box and have everyone's full attention
The same for Morgan Freeman
And he did it even with his speech!
an actor was so excited to be in a movie with captain jack and was thanking him profusely. Jack stared him down raised his sunglasses and proclaimed, "I don't make movies, I make classics."
Jack Nicholson is classic!
One of the greatest we love u Jack God bless u

God love Nicholson for mentioning JT Walsh--one of the greatest character actors of all time ✌🏼
They were good friends
Jack is a force of nature!
GO JACK!!! YOU'RE THE BEST!!! I LOVE YOU!!!
...R.Duvall was great in Apostle , ...Big Oscar goes to him...❤❤❤
Absolutely ❤
Oh to have actors and films of this caliber on the screen and at the Oscars again! I miss that feeling of watching greatness.
Love the clips, thank you, what a quintet of brilliant performances.
He could have given Helen Hunt a hug or a look as well!
She got warm rolls later.
It looked like she was indeed expecting a hug!
OMG kill his moment...you must be fun to know!!!!!!
Are you her mother?
@@davidblackburn3396no, are you his?
Absolute greatness...Won't see another like him
Jack Nicholson is amazing. And I really enjoyed the way he didn’t step on any of the lines in the floor when he went up on stage. I wonder how many people understood.
Jack is incredible.
Love Jack Nicholson. I wish he'd do more movies. But all these actors are great.
Jack is unofficially retired.
@@writerconsidered
So we never know then huh?
I believe he has dementia, so you're unlikely to ever see him in another movie 😢
@@Lspacehopper hmm
I miss Gene Hackman too, also retired.
They're not here anymore, but they're in my heart. Very classy.
Jack deserve's everything he get's!!! He is a wonderful actor!!!! Love him in everything he does!! 👍👍♥️♥️😁😁😁😁🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹........
Robert Duvall was amazing.
Remembering JT Walsh, that is class and a good friend
That was a LOADED field.
The way he danced on stage was priceless!
Didn't want to step in a crack. Lol😅 Loved it too.
This was an outstanding year for movies
Rest in peace, Peter Fonda...
1940-2019
SmailMix 😱😱😱😱
I think "Boondock Saints(2)"was his last movie....
All praise and thanks and no politics the way it should be

Frances McDormand looks so beautiful here
Blood orange velvet with that black lace 😍
That was a list of heavy hitters that year . Wow !
What a year!! Dustin Hoffman, Peter Fonda, Robert Duvall and Jack Nicholson, all running in the same category…
damn he even mentioned Skeet Ulrich, which only has like two scenes in that film, what a man, what a legend
The man, the legend, JACK NICHOLSON, yes!!!!!😊❤😊❤
I’m not a Jack Nicholson fan. But I love As Good as its gets.😉
Jack really liked this movie. So glad he won.
Jack was at a party in Hollywood one night and a woman asked "Would you like to dance Jack?"

"Some Fools Never Learn" - Steve Wariner.
I miss him so much in films, it's crazy.
Matt, Ben: I still want to see some ID.
- Robin Williams.
“Five Easy Pieces” is my favorite Jack Nicholson role.
Duval should have one. One of the best acting performances of all times
Jesus Christ when you remember the entire Fonda family ate literal acting Titans, my god watching Peter’s small clip made me realize I forgot just how great he was
Jack Nicholson would fit in the golden age of cinema with the greats

Spontaneity, sincerity, humor. Jack always comes out smelling like roses. What a guy.
As épocas desses atores acabaram uma pena não fazer mais atores como esses. Era difícil de Hollywood 😢
Luxury nominees, tough choice. Congratulations Mr. Nicohoson. Great performanc
Jack & Robin... 2 deserving Oscars.
Jack Nicholson has Retired.
The ONLY oscar speech that no one cared how long it went on for.
I want a recording of Jack reading a book.
Any book will do.
Very classy speech 😊
I believe Jack is sadly now suffering from dementia . Thanks ,Jack, for all the great memories!
Love this film watched it many times but Mr Nicholson that sweet little dog was the real star 🐶💖
Verdel!!!❤
One of my top 5 films😀
Jack one of the last Hollywood legends
Magic..lucky to see his career on Big Screens..

A MUST SEE IS: AS GOOD AS IT GETS.
His role in that movie was done so very well….
I was in the Academy Awards pressroom when he won. ❤🎉
The way he ignored Hellen Hunt when standing up
Jack is my No1 actor
Murderers' Row. And Matt Damon.
No disrespect, they got Screenplay and Robin's first Oscar.
But man. Duvall, Fonda, Dustin, Jack.
Matt Damon. Good Well Hunting. Robert Duvall. Peter Fonda. Dustin Huffman. Jack Nicholson. ......
Awesome actor
It’s kinda ironic Jack won his three Oscars essentially playing himself.

Majority of those were good movies in my opinion. I can't always say with the list of nominees.
Jack is my favorite actor
Großartiger Schauspieler!👍👏👏👏😍❤️💐
What a fantastic actor. They don’t make them like him anymore.
Jack winning 3 oscars. To be honest, he should have won about 10 !!!
This was when the Oscar’s was good. Billy Crystal was always the host
My favorite film brilliant
He won against some heavy hitters, but I'd expect no less from this incredible force, named Jack Nicholson.
Love that movie
The cool man alive!
He didn't thank Helen Hunt on his way up to the stage.
The last TRUE movie star.
The likes of which we’ll never see again.
