I used to quickly make decisions about perfumes too without giving them proper wears. Lessons learned. I also have stopped judging performance too soon.
I agree with all your points. Many Middle Eastern fragrance have a musk that nauseates me. And I regret having redundant fragrances from buying all the reminds me of perfumes looking for something a little better smelling or performing when I already had a love. I’m so happy to see my two favorites collaborating together.😊
I blind bought a couple of middle eastern fragrances that i Immediately ejected out of my house due to the dirty Musk scent that just about knocked me down. So so regret the money i put into them even though they were less expensive than some designers. I have to get samples first or just go off of reviewers recommendations that more closely resemble my tastes/tolerances. Thank you for your honest opinions!
As a brand new baby to the fragrance community, this video and your channel in general is helping me keep my *obsession* with the hunt in check. And my fomo. It’s difficult to not get swept up in collecting and shopping. I appreciate your honesty and love your vibe! ❤
I think the diacovery of what damage aromachemicals like ambroxan, amberwood and iso e super can do to a perfectly nice fragrance was rhe biggest oh oh for me. That prompted a bit of a epiphany for me. It made me just slow down on blind buying and realise too that so many niche brands are just not ever going to please me. I guess perfume is a journey of discovery and we make mistakes and have regrets to learn from them.
Same for me! I can no longer blind buy. I can't try niche houses or Middle Eastern perfumes and now a few designers have also started adding them. Specially Dolce & Gabbana and Valentino 🙄
Hi Carmen! You made some great points! I definitely have a habit of trying fragrances that my favorite perfume friends love. Like you said, even if you don't have similar tastes. The back of my mind says if I like it then I'll be able to be more like them. It's ridiculous. And I love Julija, too! I'm so happy she's back! I felt like I had lost a close friend when she left.
Right! She left us hanging but I'm glad she's back! Glad you resonated with some of my points! I know that feeling of wanting to be more like our favorite influencers. I love to watch youtubers mention perfumes I already own. Lol
you NAILED IT! We get caught up in BUYING and HAVING fragrance more than ENJOYING it. It's the CHASE! I feel a great song for that (I feel a video idea brewing) would be "Thank you. NEXT!" I'm sure that's been done, but it would make a cool short to just, like, unbox fragrances, sniff them, put them on the shelf, throw the box to the side and then open the next one...on and on. That's kind of what we do. "Thought I'd end up with LaBelle, but she wasn't a match. Did some videos about Cassablanca, now I just sit back and gag!"
OK I have to go watch Julija's video right now.. so excited!! But first just want to say that I was nodding along as you were talking about so many things… I definitely get influenced by videos.. well not to buy perfumes, but to buy samples of them. But even the samples are quite pricey and most of the time I would never pay for the full bottle anyway so why do I just want to smell it so bad?! I just did a video of my over 1000 samples! I could've purchased a lot of high-end bottles for the price of all those samples, (there's another regret I can add to my regrets video)! But then again how would I even know which bottle to buy if I hadn't sampled? and I do still make videos like "my top vanillas", stuff like that, but I've been heading more towards just fun videos like my funny perfume news series I've been doing, but they don't do nearly as well 🤷🏻♀️ it's a weird journey as a content creator, some days it's fun other days I'm not so sure! 🤪 Sorry to subject you to this Tamble Ramble of a comment! Believe it or not I had like 50 other things to say but I tried to keep it short 😅😅😂 Great video Carmen!! ❤
Dear Miss Ramble Tamble, I'm always here for a long chat! Please feel free make your own Perfume Regrets video as well! So we can know yours in depth! I know exactly what you mean about our creative stuff not getting the same attention as the main stream stuff! I balance mine out because I'm here to share my creative side. I'm not going along with the cookie stuff because there's sooo many people already doing that! The fragrance community doesn't need another reviewer, specially not a mediocre one like me. So we just have to be ourselves! I love the fun stuff! I feel like we'll find our people that way! Our real people who will stick out around. Getting views and growing you your audience are not the same thing. I'd rather grow slowly and have my kind of people watch me because they are kind and sweet people. Instead getting randos watching and judging me. 🤷
I love my collection, but I also fear that I’ve become obsessed with getting MORE. My FOMO is unreal. Sometimes I miss just having a couple signature scents. I know it stems from coming from a place of being financially unable to get what I want. Now that I can have it, I’ve gone off the rails. I am trying to learn to appreciate and use the beautiful scents I already have. It is a struggle for me.
Your regrets are WAY better than mine. I think I just rambled and said weird stuff. Still, I'm so happy that we did this, even from afar. Your kind words have rendered me speechless, and I ASSURE you that has NEVER happened before! I feel like all of my comments could have gone thusly: same. Same. SaMe. SAME. SAME!!!!!!!!! Let's do this again, please?
Just discovered your channel via the link from scent siblings. Love both of your channels. You are both so genuine. My perfume regrets definitely align with yours especially with the dupes.
Hi, thank you for this honest & heartfelt video ! I really enjoyed it ! I can relate to the 'perfume chase' ! I ike what you said about slowing down and really enjoying gettng to know a perfume & one's own scent profile & seeing if the two match... and allowing the time it takes. I also really like how you differentiate between other people / perfume reviewer's recommendations & one's personal preferences ! and how easy it is to be 'influenced' yet how important it is to listen to oneself about what we like ! Thank you again !
There are a lot of reasons why dupes are a good idea, and using them to ascertain whether or not you want the OG is the best one I can think of. That's why I love oil perfumery. I think that continuing to dupe chase once you know you like the profile is natural and normal. I'll tell you a story about a sweater and a pair of pants one day.
Buenos dias Carmen, I share your regret with ordering samples. I had so many that I even forgot I ordered and had! I no longer do that. I may order an 8 mil of something and wear it. No more insane sampling in high numbers!
Carmen! Amazing video! I’m trying to think of some regrets right now and struggling. I think I’ve realized that my nose is snobbish too. I love a great steal/deal but I don’t like skimping on quality. So one regret would probably be to splurge on a lot of cheapies hoping to discover gems and then wondering what I’m going to do with all of them. The other issue is the climate I live in now isn’t the climate I’m originally from. So I spent money trying to find cheapies whose scent profiles would work and being frustrated. Going forward, I’ll probably have to invest in samples if the perfumes aren’t readily available to try in department stores. I’m no longer going to buy cheapies because I’m pretty sure I bought all the ones I was interested in. 🤷♀️
I literally bought cheap perfumes looking for gems like if it was NY job!! Lol. That's an excellent one! I can't believe I even did that! I kept thinking I would discover the next hidden gem 💎 Finally realized I'm not reviewer and I stopped.
@@CarmenScentrix I did the same thing. Thinking it’ll be a hidden gem or long lost/forgotten gem and that I’ll somehow be the one to find it and recommend it. Big fat NOPE! 😂 I’ve always had a fairly large collection of perfumes, but the new issue I face is from searching for hidden gems through cheapies, and buying so many perfumes, my nose now gets bored so quickly as a result. And I can’t possibly use up all the ones I have. But I can’t seem to part with them either, even though I gave a bunch away recently.
I feel like you have a pickier nose than mine. I like 99% of my blind buys. The only 1 I didn't test well enough was Carolina Herrera good girl the original. I actually like the supreme version way better because it's fruitier. Also that vetiver note in the original is A LOT for my nose and I love every perfume I come across. I'm not picky at all but that vetiver note did me in lol im going to try it again but I did that twice so far and I dont think it smells like all that on my skin, very sharp from the veriver. That's all I smell 😢 I like other perfumes with vetiver too but I'm just not sure about Carolina Herrera good girl. If anyone has any layering combos please leave them down below.
I have Perfume Regrets as a video idea in my big book of video ideas.. 😅 ..so I'm SO relating to all the things you are saying and reminiscing over all my own regrets .. like my TF decanter 🤦🏻♀️🥺
Please make the video! We all end up with similar ideas at point! Me and Julija always talk about that. Most of our ideas are going to be similar and that's okay!
I totally understand the trauma iso e super gave you. I had a juliette has a gun « not a perfume » sample that opened in my drawer and made everything smell like toxic waste from a nuclear war. I can’t stand that note in anything. Even glossier « you », or dyptique « eau papier » repulses me now.
Too many too fast for me for sure. Also, in the interest of “saving money” I bought almost exclusively blind bought cheapies and dupes frequently. So many were misses and I could have waited, bought one or two I knew I wanted and spent less probably. I just got caught up in the excitement and getting a deal and the thrill of blind guys.
"Saving money" has cost me sooo much money! I always blind bought on grey market sites! Always buy things when they are on a huge discount! I could've saved 100% by not buying anything in the first place! Lol
@@CarmenScentrix amen! Me too for sure. Nothing I buy is without a steep discount but I didn’t need it so it’s a waste of money. I actually even cut back on some of my couponing for food/etc because I realized how much money I was wasting on stuff we don’t even use because it was almost free (still pay tax and spend lots of my time gathering items).
