Honestly, I don't think it smells common, the problem is that it's been the most cloned fragrance in the last 3-5 years and this fact puts the typical BR540 DNA in this spot, but it's not a common DNA at all.
I wouldn’t personally want to buy a friends’ perfume no matter how good it smelled or whether she minded or not. Because I don’t want to be reminded of her each time I wear. I want it to be unique to me. Great video, came at the right time.
I personally use whatever my mom or grandmothers used. They were smells that I knew all my life so it’s comforting. I still have my mom and grandmother(on my dad’s side) but my other grandmother passed away. I know that might be weird to most ladies but it’s all a comfort thing. The strongest one I have is twilight woods. Others are Chanel.
something people tend to forget is how their clothes smell. ever since I started putting a bar soap in my wardrobe, all my clothes started smelling so clean, every time I wear something I feel so fresh
Clean clothes are also VERY important. The high-efficiency washing machines that are being practically forced on us these days do not use enough water to properly get laundry clean. That is, if you use the normal cycles. Fabrics also hold on to body odor, synthetic fabrics being worse than natural. They make additives that you can mix with your detergent and rinse agents that will help remove the residual sweat smells, etc... from your laundry
Piggy backing off this thought also your home affects the way you smell. Having a range that has a hood vent that actually vents outside when your cooking (which a lot don't) if yours doesn't open a window when cooking and use oil screens over your pans when cooking with oils, cleaning under you hood vents and the filters which can have a rancid oil smell stuck to them. Having carpets in your house smell stick more to all textiles old unclean area rugs, dusty curtains smell stick to them. an old couch you don't clean, an old mattress, pillows you can't wash etc. old grout and sealants in your shower and around your toilet can hold molds and smell, and anyway you can keep dust down affects the air quality and smell of a house. an old house or house with moisture problems tend to have more smells. using air purifiers and dehumidifiers to help balance the moisture level in your home. point being these contribute to how you smell the smell of your house sticks to you no matter what perfume your wearing
I wash with a soap. It's just fine! But I prefer to use enough soap (not a little bit) in a washing basin first. I use washing machine for washing the soap.
Get a Speed Queen Washer and Dryer. You will be able to press the “Deep Fill” water level on every load. Use 1/2 cup of borax along with your favorite laundry detergent. Put about a splash of vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser. Your clothes will be amazingly clean and fresh. Always dry your clothes throughly. Mold and mildew do not smell good. Use your dryer.
You don't have to go to Paris to "smell" high-end. Be clean, be kind, iron your clothes, sleep well, and don't overdo it on the garlic. The classiest woman I ever knew didn't even wear or buy perfume. She said it was covering up. She used a nice essential oil first thing in the morning, and rinsed her face with rose water. I think it's about taste, not spending.
as myself someone who is very picky about perfume .... I think most of classy rich people smell fresh natural and more organic and subtle in general.... they don't wear crazy sugary bomb perfume or too loud scent with crazy chemical low quality scent think it as makeup classy people don't wear cake makeup with crazy lashes 😂 they tend to wear natural subtle but very good quality makeup that shows or underline their natural beauty
Thank you for the video. People can argue about perfume vs no perfume, expensive perfume vs affordable perfume, etc.... But the point is that it's classy to smell clean and fresh. (Hair, body, mouth, clothes) And that scent above and beyond that is a very personal matter. Classy, honest and transparent presentation as always. Thank You!
Ladys..always remember Perfume is very personal....I know people that use very inexpensive perfumes...and They smell amazing!..... experiment....and find your scent!..great video. Thanks
The Avon ladies back in the 1960s used to teach this. Layer your scent perfumes, lotions, powder, and shampoo, all scented. That has been lost in the decades. Also, the ladies at the perfume counters are always so helpful.
Yes-- being clean from head to toe is extremely important. However, I’m surprised that Anna is pushing expensive fragrances. Some very expensive fragrances can smell common and even give headaches. Using and learning about pairing body oils with fragrances can change a fragrance and make it your own. You don’t have to spend expensive to smell expensive.
@@Gen-yh1jz that's what I want to say. I spray my hair brush with my perfume and I rub a bit of my scented moisturiser and run my fingers through my hair...that's gives me my signature scent.
I'm so glad Anna mentioned the point about body chemistry. I smelled a perfume on a coworker one time that was so beautiful I just had to try it. But sadly, on me it smelled like vinegar even though my hygiene is insanely meticulous. Body chemistry and hormones are real, and they can really affect how a perfume will smell on you. I've had to test many different perfumes over the years before finally finding a few gems that really work well on me that I love. ❤
I just purchased Chloe💐 yesterday, the Original one❤ Its BEAUTIFUL, classy & long lasting! My 5 year old son said "you smell beautiful" this morning. 3 sprays around 10am and its 8:30 ish and I can still smell it❤
@@lisajoybrown hi, where did you get the original Chloe? It's my favorite perfume and I haven't been able to find it anywhere in a very long time. Thank you.
When I was a young teenager my grandmother told me it was better to wear no perfume than a cheep one. she said make sure your clothes are freshly laundered and hair clean. Check your nails and teeth are clean. Grooming is the important factor here,
To be budget friendly, I'd recommended using regular hair/body care products (unless you have a skin condition that needs special products) and only splurging on one pefume you really love. NEVER blind buy a perfume, get a sample and spray it on yourself so you know how it "develops" on your skin throughout the day. I also recommend getting a scent that is a nice everyday fragrance that can be worn in any season of the year Taking a daily shower and using anti perspirant works fine for most ppl Use that extra money you would've spent on luxury items to invest intstead. Your future self will thank you
While I fully agree, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with what you are saying- it is sound advice for someone trying to stay frugal. The focus on what Anna is sharing is solely on the aura/smell and how to wholly achieve that. Me personally, i use unscented body care products since I work in the medical field. The exceptions are my antiperspirant and my hair products. I do buy high end hair products, but because my hair is very long and I do not want to lose my length by using cheap & damaging drug store products. I add in perfume for date night or a girls’ outing when I don’t have to be so careful about triggering someone’s allergic reactions or migraines.
Thanks Nattie for this budget strategy! It might be an option for some, absolutely! Like someone below mentioned, if one wants to go that extra mile to create a “scented aura” then those would be my tips ❤️
I definitely prefer using unscented body products because I don't want the fragrances to compete with my curated perfumes. LabMuffin has videos on the ingredient differences, or lack thereof, between high end and common bath and body products.
I tried niche perfumes but could never pick one i like, they all are too complicated with so many "notes" opening up when you wear them on skin, sometime the smell changes in a few minutes, it was so confusing that i decided i'd rather be a mainstream girlie instead with my givenchys, versaches and VS body sprays 🤗 Realizing i don't have to catch up with all that trending "niche perfume" madness and i can stick with old faves made me happier and more confident.
I recently went to an expensive department store in Germany and found all these niche, but very popular perfumes, like Jo Malone, Byredo, MFK, Tom Ford, Amouage etc. I tried a whole bunch of them and didn't like most to even put on my skin! on top of that some of these brands are now probably even more popular than the usual luxury brands. and I have watched enough perfume content to know that most of the times the difference comes from branding and packaging, not the contents of the bottle itself. Like you, I also prefer more linear and monotonous scents instead of the ones that smell completely differently 30 second, 30 minutes and 3 hours after I applied them
CHI shampoo/conditioner Dermalogica body lotion Day scent: Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt Nighttime scent: YSL Libre Guaranteed to smell heavenly and get compliments! I also spritz a Coco Chanel Mademoiselle EDP in my walk-in closet to leave a slight hint on my wardrobe.
It’s Herbal Essence that you’re smelling 😂 I live in the wealthiest suburb in the state of PA. There’s definitely a lot of women wearing mainstream everyday scents. 🤷🏼♀️
I live in PA too…my experience with our more wealthy suburbs is that flashing labels is valued more than individuality. The irony of our great state is that there are lots of very wealthy people who are sitting on lots of land and you would never know they are multi millionaires. As for perfumes, it will always come down to taste. There are lots of very expensive perfumes that smell awful and less expensive ones that are very nice. I really think it depends on how they are made. My motto is if it doesn’t make me have a sneezing fit, it’s worth trying.
The original Herbal Essence shampoo "💚" it was a green bottle from the 60s and 70s smelled so incredible.. it was like a Fresh Meadow. Wish I could smell that original formula again.
@ I actually like the smell of the yellow Herbal Essences shampoo…I wouldn’t use it everyday but it’s a clean scent that more expensive brands just don’t have. My favorite will always be Aveda’s Rosemary Mint.
I wish I had a real change at life in general, I'll turn 25 this month and still live with my mom I'm thankful about this but we also don't have hot water sinds the end of 2018, I am ashamed to admit that I haven't fully washed my self sinds 2021, and have been very depressed about my living situation. I try to keep up with everything but it's all so overwhelming. I want help but not professional help as this scares me and had a bad experience with this in the past when I asked for help. I just wish so badly I could elevate my life but I feel so stuck. Sorry for my grammar English is my 2nd language. To whomever reads this til here thank you. I just wanted to be heard I guess.
My Dear beautiful Girl Please be patient every thing changes in life nothing will stay the same, try to find a job no matter how much it pays you , ask one of your closest friends to allow you to use her shower if it is safe of course and she doesn't have a male relatives in the house, when you have a job you can help your mom & get hot water again or even rent a hotel room once a week and have a long relaxing bath, the most important thing is not to lose hope & let darkness and depression drown you, it's Not the end of the world & there's girls lives in more harsh situation than yours , you're more lucky than them so be patient and confident & try to find solutions for your problem & think positively and I assure you you will be able to find light in the end of the tunnel & you will manage to help yourself.. All love & respect & a big big hug
I want other people to buy my perfume, so it doesn’t get discontinued! It is Versace Dylan blue for women. It’s not groundbreaking, but I think it’s pretty.
My pain is that I have a favourite perfume which was on the market for around 20 years and Azzaro discontinued it. My favourite smell ever!!! It was something between washing conditioner, soap and spring. It was fresh, clean and not head aching. Promote your favourite perfume like a mad woman so you never feel my obsession with finding something similar! 😃
@@ivanadimitrova7916 the only thing worse than your favorite perfume being discontinued is when they bring it back 10years later, but they make subtle change to it! It's such a tease seeing it back in stores but knowing it's not the same anymore
I used to think Dylan Blue is too mainstream and not care about it then go into niche heavy scent cause I want to stand out. But after a few complain from my co workers about my perfumes are so heavy, I respect them so I switch to designer elegant scents, and I got so much compliments. I'm happy if I smell pleasant and people around like how I smell. One day a new girl come to my office, she smell so pretty and I asked her what's she wearing, she said Dylan Blue!
I am lucky enough to have a relative who is a flavour chemist who is also into perfume making. He made me my signature ‘after the rain’ scent of a wet country lane in summer time. It is glorious and I’ll never stop using it!
They’re lovely, but overpriced for the performance you get (like Diptyque and Jo Malone). Xerjoff is a much better bet if you want unique but luxe, though you *really* have to test them out on your skin.
You don't need to buy expensive, obscure perfumes to smell upscale. You can buy classic scents that have been around for decades as well. These will not smell so mainstream because they're not trendy. Jean Louis Scherrer, Tosca, L'Air du Temps, Boucheron, Quelques Fleurs, Shalimar, Mitsouko, L'Heure Bleue, Chanel No.5, Chanel No.19, Cristalle, Coco, Rive Gauche, Diorissimo, Givenchy III...
i have started to move away from highly perfumed hair and body products as i find myself getting allergic to "parfum"/fragrance. they smell really nice, but either i get nauseated or get itchy with highly perfumed hair products and body lotions. besides, most mainstream companies and even niche ones that are not conscious of their ingredient list would not indicate what is in "parfum" or fragrance. i'm looking more into organic/clean/eco friendly/cruelty free products for such
@@zilam98 same. Fragrance can be so irritating and terrible for health. I’d rather have healthy skin and smell less perfumey. Rashes and eczema are not worth smelling strong haha
Le Labo and 7 Virtues has parfums that are conscious about that, they use best quality ingredients as well as Chanel, the worst are cheap perfumes/brands because they are not transparent with ingredients. Those 2 brands are the only ones I know that has high standard and are recommended by Vogue as “clean” fragrances, even Jeremy Fragrance mentioned “Le Labo Santal 33” 4 years ago saying is the most worn in New York.
@@zilam98 Michelle Pfeiffer has a brand called Henry Rose. EWG approved. I bought the sample kit and there are several that I really love. The body butters smell great as well and help with layering the scent. For me...I don't think they are long lasting enough and my chemistry (probably a lot of venom..ha ha) needs something more "hefty". But I love that they are very safe!
I'd highly recommend clean (!) essential oils, the ones that can be used directly on the skin so they don't cause irritation. A co-worker of mine has incredibly sensitice skin and she's been using a jasmine essential oil on her wrists and a bit on her neck and always smells clean and put together. And because it's not a mainstream perfume that can be worn by so many other people, it becomes unique to you and your body chemistry.
Omg you are the first person to talk about someone else wearing a perfume that I like and wear but don’t like it anymore after someone else wears it! That’s been me forever and I can’t tell people this because they get upset but now it makes me feel normal. I don’t mean to be a mean person but now when someone compliments my perfume and asks what it is, I just say I don’t remember because I don’t want them to start wearing it.
That's so true, I used to wear more mainstream fragrances that I often smelled on others, then I found a lesser known Italian brand's perfume that I fell in love with, it's my signature scent now -- I wear it day or night, work or special occasions and all four seasons. I wanna be burried wearing that lol I'd never share it with others tho as it's so personal to me, some of my friends even told me it's so unique to me, they'd recognise it anywhere and be reminded of me. It's not at all a niche brand.
Anna, I know English is not your first language and you said you were still learning, so this advice is offered as part of that. In English it's not 'how you smell like' but 'how you smell' or 'what you smell like'.
@evaustupski6632 Have you not seen previous videos where Anna has said she wants to improve her English? Guess you aren't such an avid supporter of this channel.
@@bEverCurious Once again nothing that has anything to do with the other. 🤡 Hope you get the therapy you need rather than let your frustrations out by trolling social media.
Perfumes smell different on different people. You need to test them first. This also can change with age. When I was a young girl of 18, I once used a very expensive perfume and was asked by several friends why I smell like a mens toilet at the railway station. So watch out!
i used to wear fragrances labelled cherry blossoms or jasmine back in college, and now i absolutely hate anything that smells that overly sweet. i'm nearing 50, and i find myself gravitating toward musks, cedar, and sandalwood
Before I had the money to purchase high end perfumes, I used to get many compliments on a very inexpensive body spray called Windsong . You can literally get it in a body spray for $1-$3 at family dollar or Dollar General in the U.S.
Great video Anna. Growing up I find that older women had a particular scent that I didn't like and told myself that Im going to try my best to not be that person. At 52 yo I really appreciate your perspective. I cant afford anything expensive but I'm trying😊. I also believe the fabric you wear also contribute to your scent so we have to be mindful of that also.❤
I enjoy wearing perfumes but when I feel like I need a break, I just use non-scented body- and skincare, start washing my clothes with a sensitive laundry detergent and apply a few drops of essential oil (specifically to be used on skin so it doesn't irritate) on my wrists. These are really not expensive stuff and still give me the feeling and smell of cleanliness. I always look for the feeling of freshness and cleanliness and surprisingly, some fragrances make me feel the opposite.
There is a French perfumerie called Caron. They are a well kept secret and not available to buy in high street shops. Their fragrances are beautiful and high quality. They don't smell 'commercial', or have that awful synthetic/ethanol smell a lot of perfume has today. Even Chanels more modern perfumes have a certain smell about them. I found Caron in the Four Seasons in Megeve, France and it is truly something else. I wear Tabac Exquis, and people continually comment about how amazing I smell.
In England the word wealthy is not used by thcultuvated sophisticated peoples., we say rich we stay away from scents connected to pop stars etc these usually smell like fly killer
Here's my ten cents: Kevin Murphy shampoo and other hair products are amazing in performance and smell. They are expensive but total game changers for me. As mentioned below, what you wash your clothes with also matters; there are high end laundry products as well as some mainstream ones that smell "elevated." Think about what your deoderant smells like, too; some deoderants are overwhelming. To add to Anna's comments about common or mainstream perfumes, I'd describe many of these perfumes as smelling very sugary (Ariana Grande's Cloud smells like a toasted marshmallow to me), like a Jolly Rancher candy, or very harshly, overpoweringly floral (like the perfume composition is not balanced). Some also have a strong synthetic fruity smell, like a banana body spray or somesuch. Also, affluent people in general (in my part of the US at least) do not smoke cigarettes, and as we all know, cigarette smoke clings to you and doesn't smell good.
Thank you for adding regarding fabric softener, I forgot to include that part in the video! 🙏 and regarding cigarettes, unfortunately that’s a US thing. In Europe, many people smoke including some in the elite :(
I'm hesitant to go for scented shampoos and soaps because of what effect all of this has on esp women's hormones/fertility etc. but a good topic to think about for me :)... thanks for the video
I once heard it that if a company needs perfume in their products, it means some other ingredients smell bad so they need to cover it up with a stronger fragrance. I still use lightly scented products (except for facial skincare, only non-scented products for that area) but if people clean themselves thoroughly daily, they shouldn't smell bad just because they used non-perfumed products.
Growing up, I always bathed daily. Perfumes with a floral oil base and my clothes freshly laundered and pressed. This was typical for me. But as I speak to others, it is not. …. If my clothes don’t feel or smell fresh, I’m not happy! ❤
I use professional shampoo & conditioner, and surprisingly, you can *save* money using them while still smelling divine and having great hair. By buying in bulk (1 liter) and also since the professional one is stronger (more concentrated) It lasts for ages❤ My shampoo lasts a year
I love niche fragrances, but only own 12 full bottles. I buy samples instead, testing them on my skin at least three times to see how they evolve on my skin. Then I move to 5-10 mL decants and see if I will actually use them frequently enough to justify buying a full bottle. Decanters like Perfumed Court, Surrender to Chance, ScentSplit, Indigo Perfumery, etc are great.
When my husband bought me Juvenile Perfume, because the ladies told him I would like it. I was so upset, and had to teach him what I like. Ended up driving all over my city to buy YSL Libre Parfum. I also mix my parfum’s to create a unique scent. Thanks Anna ❤
This is cool however, I was expecting a bit more from this video such as; what makes a niche fragrance niche, what kind of smell is considered high end? Clean and spicy? Or floral and fresh?
@@saharkhursheed8261 although I agree that she could definitely do a video touching upon those points, but she did say in the video that she’s not a perfume expert. There are plenty of perfume channels on yt that can touch upon your particular questions. Just de Rose or The Perfume Guy come to mind. So check them out if you’d like.
@@saharkhursheed8261 i think it has to do with the choice and quality of ingredients and if the amounts they make are small and not widely available. It can also be unique combination of scents, or that it is a small family business, everything done by hand, long history and tradition… I kinda imagine it as a cool high end local restaurant that not many people know about, compared to McDonalds 😄. As for the scent profiles, I don’t feel (from personal smelling 😊) that anything too strong, or very sweet is not really classy, but that the “clean” smells are the goal. If there is spice, floral, citrucy smell, it should be a hint. But that’s all very difficult to say because a smell depends on the skin of the person wearing it. PH of the skin is very important, have moisturized skin is also very important, etc. An old perfumer once told me to always try a scent on my skin and then smell it throughout the day for as long as it lasts, and if I like it, go back to the store the next day and buy it. The smell changes with time, and also your skin and the quality of perfume affect how long a smell stays on you.
I think it does depend on the person. There are many smaller brands - go to a high end store and smell them all. As an example, what I do is look a lesser known brand that uses good ingredients - knowing what good ingredients are can take some work - eg for rose you want rose absolute or Bulgarian rose. I used to wear Jo Malone Vetiver (now discontinued) until she sold the company to Estée Lauder. Now she has started another brand called Jo Loves which is less well known and there are some good fragrances in that range - I now use vetiver from Jo Loves. But also I stopped someone in the supermarket whose scent smelled amazing. It was Santal 33 by Los Labo. It is insanely expensive but you can buy a 10ml bottle so I wear that on special occasions and ALWAYS get compliments.
Nowadays any fragrance that used to be considered exclusive, can become mainstream. Think of Chanel No 5 or Baccarat Rouge. They're not made with special ingredients anymore either because of mass consumerism. I had a very elegant, classy relative who was always put together, I couldn't really detect one specific thing, she always wore ironed, tailored clothes (she took all her clothes to the tailor's, even the really inexpensive ones, to have them fitted perfectly to her body), she used the same body and haircare all the time (mostly non-scented creams or the kind that didn't have a "chocolate" or "christmas cookie" or "strawberry" smell, they had that typical clean cream scent) and she focused on skincare over makeup, haircare over hair dye so she'd always look clean and healthy. And she wore a fresh, a bit creamy fragrance, not too heavy, spicy or resembling any fruit or food.
@@anamarkov3952 It's a good point, lots of really wealthy people have the privilege to have a bespoke perfume created specifically for them and only for them so really no one else smells like them. And it's a time saver, too, you know that you'll smell divine for the rest of the day when you put your hand-crafted scent on. And I also heard that some ladies actually only wear those clean, natural essential oils instead of a spray-on perfume so the scent is close to the skin but lingers on all day long.
I sooo agree Anna, fragrance plays a huge part in being classy! Perfume is very personal. When I was younger, I´m SURE I wore too much fragrance, but I my personal taste has become more refined as I´ve aged; I see the wisdom in ¨less is more¨ usually. . . Sophisticated ladies almost never wear too much fragrance. Like you, I never wanted to smell like everybody else - I wanted to be a little different.
I second that, I know a very elegant, middle-aged woman at my workplace who puts hygiene above all so she doesn't even have to lather perfume on. She only uses an essential oil that has become her signature scent.
For summer I like citrus scent; what I have is Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue and Moschino I Love Love. For winter months, I go between Thierry Mugler Alien and various other heavier scents. I get compliments every time 😃
I would also recommend boutique stores like Dior, Chanel, or Hermes. They have their higher end lines such as Chanel Exclusifs. Expensive yes, but they are more unique, and long lasting
I get migraines from certain perfumes also….this makes it so hard to chose a different signature perfume. I love Chanel Mademoiselle, although I have stopped purchasing it as the formula has changed. Jo Malone, pear and freesia is my go to until I find my forever scent.
kay, I’ve always scratched my head about the obsession around the *suluxy* book totes and their practicality, but this one is adorable!! Congratulations
If someone is not sure I'd recommend starting with Santa Maria Novella, you can't go wrong with a classic Italian brand like this and their prices are moderate so it's a reasonable choice when you're trying to find a scent you'll be comfortable with.
I am Eastern European currently living in Germany and i guess i am the only one person at my work wearing perfumes :D I dunno why Germans dont like fragrances considering the fact that in this country perfumes are on avarage much cheaper than in other EU countries and there are so many great onlines stores here with amazing discounts. Anyhow, what i dont understand in this world that it is socially acceptable to complain about other people's perfumes but not socially acceptable to complain about bad body odours! Here I am referring to the first part of Anna's video where she talks about personal grooming. I cannot count how many times per day I smell people with bad breath, oily hair, sweat or just unwashed dusty clothes. I am amazed how little people pay attention to these things! With the body hygiene it's better overdo than underdo. For me it's super important to wash my clothes regularly with fabric softeners and laundry perfumes, to always shower 2x per day, never skip deodorant, apply perfumes 2-3x per day, also hair perfume and always having chewing gum in my purse. Not even mentioning wipes and some other hygiene products that I try to have in my drawer at work and in my handbag. But as I see most of the people are too relaxed in this department. I remember living in students dormitory in my home country and seeing some girl frying smelly frozen fish in the kitchen with closed windows which almost made me vomit; but later I saw her leaving to the city wearing exactly same clothes she wore during cooking. Like wth??? Same goes to people who think that it's somehow okey to eat raw garlic and raw onion before meeting other people.
i am very sensitive to smells/scents, i would have no problem mentioning to a colleague, if they have an overpowering smell for whatever reason :D although i totally agree, i wish people put more effort into personal hygiene and grooming.
I also live in Germany, in Berlin ..so you can imagine. I am the only one who wears perfume.. I love it. I notice here in Berlin, people don't care about their hygiene, in fact the more dirty you look in Berlin the better it is.
Hey, Im from germany as well. And I would agree. People in the office would even tell you straight in the face that you shouldnt wear perfume, because it annoys them.
It probably depends on in which social circles one is in. I'm also from Germany, wear perfume on the daily and also my acquaintances wear beautiful fragrances. To say Germans in general smell bad or have poor hygiene is a very offensive statement and an unqualified one, too.
@@morro8785Sorry if you found my post offensive. What I talked about perfumes in Germany was just my personal experience. I work in academia/science and people are very much only-work oriented here. Not wearing perfumes doesn't mean bad hygiene. Very often those people who don't wear perfumes just don't smell like anything which is not a bad thing. I live in Munich which is very international and I can tell you that in streets/stores/public transport I mainly smell perfumes on people from Middle East, Eastern Europe, Russia or South America (judging by the language they speak). When it comes to personal hygiene I didn't mean Germans whatsoever. I meant overall population in where I live which is, as I mentioned, multicultural.
I personally love Arabian Oud perfume oils. Musk, Amber, Rose. They're intense, long-lasting, not too expensive and often come in an absolutely gorgeous re-fillable bottle.
Good on you Anna, for reminding everyone to use coffee to clear the nose palette in-between sniffs. A scent counter worth anything will have coffee beans in salt shakers for this purpose. If they don't, you're in the wrong place. 😅
Hi Anna, thanks for this video. I personally use 2 parfumes that a lot of people have been complimented on and I never told them what I was wearing. They are from Zara in collaboration with Jo Malone and they are Elegantly Tokio and Enerheticaly New York. They smell expensive, citrusy and leather.
Thank you Anna, here in Milan niche parfumes are a real trend . I love Frerick Malle , Jorum Studio or Annick Goutal , when you try niche parfumes you cannot turn back ❤Thank you for this useful topic ...high end groooming is the base, of course!
Interestingly, studies show that men tend to prefer vanilla scents on women. Also highly rated are other things we associate with comfort foods (i.e. cinnamon, nutmeg, etc.). In my experience, vanilla is far and away the scent that has always elicited the most positive reactions from men. Men tend to be very food focused, which is probably the origin of the old saying "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach".
I love Designer perfumes but i pick my own. My nose makes the choice. I always have 4 or 5 different ones to cycle around plus body lotion/shower gel to layer the scent. People always say i smell lovely. They usually can't afford to copy me. I invest in the right perfumes that not every second person has.
The chemistry between skin and perfume is so true! I have a colleague whose perfume is so strong i smell it even when I'm 2 meters away from her. I wouldn't mind if it smelled good or even just normal, but it smells like perfume+sweat and that's not so good. I feel like maybe this perfume smelled great when she was testing it but when the scent develops on her skin throughout the day it's a bit off. And i feel like there's no nice way to tell someone something like this without looking like the bad guy.
I have noticed that a scent that you wear may smell different on someone else. Also I am very sensitive to scents, so I stay with mostly fresh scents. Giorgio Armani has some very nice fresh scents that I can wear. Some of Dolce are good for me also. Heavy scents, although lovely, give me migraines. I think it’s all about what works for you, and you like.
Indeed smell is so important! My tip: wear no synthetic and hang your clothing nighttime outside and they smell fresh. Use a good deo, tong scraper, wash yourself every time with water after using the bathroom/toilet. I use already years the brand Keune for my hair. It's bit exspensive but you need very very little and really does wonders. Nice video Mrs Bey.
Here's a common MISCONCEPTION - smell the coffee beans to clear your nose. Please STOP doing this. This step will fill your sniffing cups even more. Better go out of the store for a while and breathe in the unscented air. Go back and continue trying more scents.
I am an absolute lover of perfumes and aromas and I loved this video. I am honest and my perfumes are mostly affordable perfumes that we can find in duty free. Thank you for inspiring me to increase my interest in trying niche essences. I will follow your advice. Thank you. Greetings from Argentina❤
I have a collection of about 60 bottles, so I don't have a signature scent. If someone complements my scent I will often make them a small decant to try. From my personal collection my most elegant would be Dama Bianca by Casamorati and Creation R from Roja. More of my collection is for everyday, but mostly niche. My current loves are Mosc Moschus by Rania J, Faces of Francis by Vilhelm, and Cappadocia by Memo Paris. I'm going to Fragrantica to check out your suggestions. You look gorgeous in that blue!
Musc Moschus is my fall addiction ever since last autumn, just stunning and girly ! If you haven't tried Musk Therapy (which I'm sure you have) it's gorgeous and I use it as my daytime counterpart to the Musc Moschus. My favorite from Roja is Nuwa, also undeniably classy. I do the same sending my friends home with decants (I think this is a sentiment shared by perfume lovers as we truly find delight in sharing the love of perfume-- because what is the point of loving something if you have no one to share it with !💗)
@@charlottecosentino139 Yes, tried Musk Therapy. Greta Beth on RUclips loves Nuwa. I need to try it. My Mom "shops" my collection and gets refills when she visits. Sharing is so much more fun than hoarding.
Wear what you love, it does not matter what is high end or mainline. Perfume smells slightly different on everyone. Over the years I have found a few I love and I stick with those.
I do still wear like "mainstream" type perfumes, just avoiding the most cheap and cliche types. I don't have a specific perfume that is my signature, but I do have a type of perfume that I feel is very me. Although I'm not sure about the right lingo. But basically it's "heavy" floral scents, with some musky and woodsy undertones. I seem to be drawn to many perfumes with viol in them. Also for haircare I use professional shampoo and conditioner, as well as more pricy skincare products for my face, but regular drugstore body soap. Don't wanna wash too much money literally down the drain lol. I do get a lot of compliments for how I smell (I shower daily and often use just 2 or 3 sprays of perfume) so I take that as a good sign. I'm unsure if I smell expensive though, probably more mid tier. Perhaps more elevated than the average woman, but unlikely anything like an actually rich woman. And I'm fine with that, since my aim is more so to be classy than giving the impression of having way more money than I actually do.
In a casual conversation with my friends, my male friends tend to think about rich woman when they use perfume and creams because they are coulees about clothes and hair, but creams and perfumes they immediately associate it with luxury. I believe layering fragrances are going to be a big deal next year because people are being more and more authentic. But definitely high quality perfumes came from expensive shops, so Anna you are completely accurate 👍
To be honest I have women friends that are High net worth and they don’t smell nice at all and even their mouths/breaths smell very bad when they talk. On the other side I know women that are working class and they smell so nice out of the world - it all depends on the woman herself.
I was mostly wearing mainstream perfumes until I discovered the “Merchant Of Venice” brand while on vacation in Istanbul. I was in the department store actually looking to purchase a handbag when a gentleman who was working there recommended to spray me with the “La Fenice” fragrance. Don’t know how to best describe this but this was the most beautiful scent i had ever smelled while at the same time it was “me”. As Anna said you will understand when you find YOUR perfume!
Online perfume quizzes are good fun and can actually be surprisingly accurate! I got good results with the Scentbird quizz but actually every quizz I take gives me pretty much the same results, so if you feel stuck, doing some quizzes and seeing what comes up the same in all of them can help narrow a profile down
Everyone always asks what I’m wearing and when I tell them it’s just dolce Gabbana light blue , they can’t believe it because it’s doesn’t smell like it when I’m wearing it. It’s important to find a perfume that suits your natural smell. Also if you can’t smell it on yourself, that’s a good sign.
I have heard from men on a number of occasions how important a woman’s smell is!!! I prefer natural oils. Zoha fragrances is inexpensive but smells expensive and has subtle scents like rose or Egyptian. 💖
Dahling I live in the Caribbean and the duty free store is what we have. I wear Dior and Channel Which is never "on sale" I hate that you said that. Some only have that.
Fun video & very informative. Jo Malone, Grapefruit was the last scent I purchased. It suited very well, was delightful but didn't last on my skin 😔. I discovered many of the fragrances are beautiful; others are too vanilla, powdery, musky and don't work with my chemistry... but I'm determined and will try again. Thanks, Anna.
We can all smell high-end if we really want to. Start with a scent of perfume that suits you, then go for a body lotion, use a bar soap that is lightly scented, & finally hair products that smell good and you will see you will always smell fresh, clean & great!
Thank you for this video. I try not to be over powerful with my perfume. Found that l had to change my perfume in my thirties because it started to smell wrong on me. But l do love it when a stranger or friends come up to me and tell me l smell nice. We do have to remember to keep total personal hygiene up. Being clean from the top of our head down to our feet is important.
We have a high population of Somalian’s in our area. And they always smell so good. I see them buying perfume at the counter but I know there’s something else that works there. I’m pretty sure they mix it with an Attar.
Love this video. My everyday perfume is also Miss Dior, but my most favourite perfume is Belle du jour from Fragagnard. I wear it for special occasions or just because it makes me sooo happy to wear it.
Everyone has a different body chemistry that totally changes a perfume! So having said that, I think cheap perfumes all smell the same, they have sweet, vanilla, musk, oud over notes etc. on me white flowers (gardenia, tube rose, etc.) smells best but the best one was from creed and now they have discontinued it! They have other “white flower” perfumes but it’s not the same! 😊❤
1. it also matters what you eat - the body emits smells of processing the food you eat... your body, your hair, your breath have a whiff of smell of what your body have been processing, no matter they have been washed... 2. how about your laundry detergent? it smells just enough to have that slight sent of fresh.3. They smell like peace and security. They do not stress. Pheromones of content. 4. Perfumes usually have chemicals added to them for "spreading" the smell. NOT healthy and not good for anything or anyone. I wear citrusy flavors, and particularly one that is sort of ecco - just perfume, no chemicals. Divine, light, fresh, uplifting, unassuming. 5. Wear natural fibers. They do not retain any previous wear smells. 6. but not last - there are garment sprays that people spray in their wardrobes. they can be very subtle, delicate and elegant. Once you spray your garments with them and you have taken shower, you do not have to wear perfume! I have my favorite one and always get compliments on how I smell even I have not used perfume... Just a hint.
Hi Anna! I’ve loved your content for years since I first subscribed. I hope this doesn’t come across the wrong way, but I really miss the elegant vibe of your older videos compared to the recent setup with the big microphone in front of you. It just had such a unique touch!
Thanks for sharing! Unfortunately, due to technical reasons, the new microphone set up is much more convenient and has minimal risk for error during recording. The previous set up had often times issues, example: I would record a video and then the sound is not good that results in my having to re-film everything. With my new set up this does not happen anymore. It might not he aesthetically pleasing, but I prefer it this way 🌸
@@AnnaBeyOfficialAnna, your elegance is embodied in your beautiful, eloquent, warm, and sophisticated self; a microphone nor setting of any sort can ever detract from that. ⭐️
I’ve been waiting years for this one Anna! You are one of the best coaches online and continue to be so year after year. If only the Facebook group was still going 😢
Fragrance is so very personal. This is a wonderful way to be unique. I dislike 99% of perfumes that I smell. I have found my forever personal scent from Lili Bermuda. A wonderful perfumery in Bermuda that uses classical French perfume making techniques. They have a variety of lovely scents and are high quality without the massive price tag. They even do workshops where you can make your own.
I absolutely agree about everything Anna is educating us on. I do agree on being unique but I also feel you must please yourself first! You are the one wearing the fragrance. You are the one alone with it and smelling it. If you love the fragrance (no matter the cost) and it makes you feel confident, sexy, professional, fresh etc. then wear it. Please yourself first! Please your mate second. Everyone else is last ( unless the fragrance is truly offensive).
Absolutely! I agree, which is why I Explained this over and over again in the video To make it extra clear that you have to prioritize yourself in this
I really enjoyed this video because you are suggesting that people go and find their own signature perfume. I remember watching a video of yours in the past where you were recommending certain perfumes and stating that other perfumes smelled bad and I remember thinking "well, that's very subjective" because it is, what you like might not be what I like. I have a perfume that was gifted to me as a wedding present from someone very close to me 14 years ago and the bottle is still only half-way through, but I consider that to be my signature smell now and it's not even a high end perfume, it's Victoria's Secret, but I love how it smells, one of my favourite scents. Unfortunately and fortunately it's been discontinued. Unfortunately because I can't buy it anymore, so I am planning on keeping at least a bit of it as a keepsake, but I'm also glad that it feels unique now and no one else has it.
There are companies that will replicate your perfume. You can give them the notes from.your fragrance. Unfortunately I don't remember anynames. But also there are people that have old perfumes you a buy.
I totally agree about not overloading your body with scent. I'll never forget an experience I had last year at a grocery store. There was a man stalking items throughout one of the sections and his cologne was so strong I could literally smell everywhere he had been. It lingered in the aisles long after he had left them. To me, when people wear a lot of perfume I either assume they have become so accustomed to their perfume that they are "nose blind" and might want to rotate in another scent, or that they are covering up body odor. Neither one is great. Like Anna, I'm fairly sensitive to some perfumes. Back in the day when Calvin Klein obsession perfume was all the rage it was awful because some component of it gives me a terrible headache! Even the knockoffs that were floating around at that time would give me the same closed up throat and horrible headache. I think we always need to be mindful when we wear perfume out in a public place where you're going to have assigned seats. An airplane, at a concert or symphony. If you've doused yourself in perfume and someone next to you either doesn't like your perfume or is allergic to it, they are stuck sitting next to you for the entirety of the performance. One Christmas we were at the symphony and two people near me were wearing such strong cologne I felt myself having an allergic reaction and having trouble breathing. I had to ask an usher to move me to an open seat when there was an intermission. It's always something good to remember when you're going to be in one place for a long time. I'd say use a lighter hand with your perfume choice on those occasions. I'm very intrigued by certain perfumes and I think I will take Anna's advice and visit a nice store to see if I can find a nice, signature sent that won't give me headaches. ❤️
Even expensive scents can smell common. Baccarat Rouge 540 is an example. Careful when you buy, price isn't always a good indicator.
I can smell it everywhere now and I'm tired of this.
EXACTLY
Honestly, I don't think it smells common, the problem is that it's been the most cloned fragrance in the last 3-5 years and this fact puts the typical BR540 DNA in this spot, but it's not a common DNA at all.
@@dawnsummerlangerak2242 omg then what's the rave about this perfume on the internet? Thank for saving my money.

THE WASHING MACHINES IN MY BUILDING WASH JUST FINE, TF! 🤔🙄😒
Excellent points! Thanks for adding them! 👍
I love blending a citrus with a floral. When I do this, I get compliments.
There are perfumes that are citrusy and floral and the same time. Freesia perfumes and tea perfumes, for example.
You don't have to go to Paris to "smell" high-end. Be clean, be kind, iron your clothes, sleep well, and don't overdo it on the garlic.
I also recommend getting a scent that is a nice everyday fragrance that can be worn in any season of the year
Taking a daily shower and using anti perspirant works fine for most ppl

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!!!!!!!!!

Oh my gosh, forgot the worst culprit! haha

@@galaxystones3400 I tried Amouage some years ago...nowadays I find it nothing special.
I don't like perfumes. I prefer a good body lotion. Most perfumes contain too much alcohol and the scent make us sickly.
@@smendes2004 any recs? I’m always trying to find exquisite body products.
Windsong is horrible! It's cheapo old lady perfume😮😅
@@anne-elizabethmcgeary1023 but I have got many compliments from men , and I’m 51 so I am probably older than you .
I’m 51 , so my taste is different than anyone much younger . I’ve been complimented when wearing the body spray multiple times.
Great video Anna. Growing up I find that older women had a particular scent that I didn't like and told myself that Im going to try my best to not be that person. At 52 yo I really appreciate your perspective. I cant afford anything expensive but I'm trying😊. I also believe the fabric you wear also contribute to your scent so we have to be mindful of that also.❤
that is so true. anything synthetic or with a huge percentage of synthetics do smell funky
@@zilam98 True. I can smell synthetic fabrics. They smell like a burnt chemical scent.
Caron is not a secret it’s a well known brand popular in the mood 20 century
In England the word wealthy is not used by thcultuvated sophisticated peoples., we say rich we stay away from scents connected to pop stars etc these usually smell like fly killer
Possibly a secret to some of us then. I've never seen it in my travels. @catherinenewman6516
@catherinenewman6516. 😂😂 fly killer. I agree.
In Europe, many people smoke including some in the elite :(
Thank you My husband always asks “ what did you learn from Anna Bey this week?” He loves the changes you made in me!
I'm hesitant to go for scented shampoos and soaps because of what effect all of this has on esp women's hormones/fertility etc. but a good topic to think about for me :)... thanks for the video
Very important point to make!❤ Just bc the products might be luxurious doesn't mean they're safe for your health
@@nattie911totally ! Most are super unhealthy.
@@Kayyy8585 and sometimes, the most luxurious and high end tend to be the ones with the most toxic ingredients
Anna, you are so classy in your way of teaching or directing ! Nothing as nice as smelling good! Thank you!!
It is not about buying high end products, it is about having knowledge and taste to find the smell that matches your personality.
Smelling clean and uniquely you makes the best SENSE 😉
I am a perfume collector. I appreciate your perspective. I think I will try the shampoo and body wash suggestions. Great idea.
I love Chanel Les Exclusifs but not all of them long lasting, the same goes with Hermes. Quality sometimes is poor and disappointing.
I get migraines from certain perfumes also….this makes it so hard to chose a different signature perfume. I love Chanel Mademoiselle, although I have stopped purchasing it as the formula has changed. Jo Malone, pear and freesia is my go to until I find my forever scent.
Meghan Markle wears those Jo Malone fragrances.
Guerlain is the best of them all 👌🏽
kay, I’ve always scratched my head about the obsession around the *suluxy* book totes and their practicality, but this one is adorable!! Congratulations
If someone is not sure I'd recommend starting with Santa Maria Novella, you can't go wrong with a classic Italian brand like this and their prices are moderate so it's a reasonable choice when you're trying to find a scent you'll be comfortable with.
I just posted about the wax tablets that I use in my closet! Great choice
I'm glad you mentioned to match your perfume to your activity. I always were something stronger at night than during the day
Hi Anna, thanks for this video.
I forgot about Annick Goutal. ❤
What is your favourite in Jorum Studio and Annick Goutal?
Love Penhaligon’s fragrances, expensive but beautiful and cruelty free
I hate the Vanilla scents. Yuck. I love it in pastries not on people.
Same
Interestingly, studies show that men tend to prefer vanilla scents on women.
True, it feels suffocating when I wear anything vanilla
I am currently obsessed with irresistible by givenchy. So clean but a little romantic. Definetly aligns with me
I have noticed that a scent that you wear may smell different on someone else. Also I am very sensitive to scents, so I stay with mostly fresh scents. Giorgio Armani has some very nice fresh scents that I can wear. Some of Dolce are good for me also. Heavy scents, although lovely, give me migraines. I think it’s all about what works for you, and you like.
My number one scent is, La vie est belle, by Lacome. It blends well with my chemistry. This is the only scent I get compliments on when I wear it.
I like that one too but I haven’t bought it in a few years. I think it would be classified as mainstream :(
Indeed smell is so important!
@@iva1876 I heard that, apparently, if you smell your clean, perfume-free skin, it has the same "resetting your nose" effect as smelling coffee.

I do the same sending my friends home with decants (I think this is a sentiment shared by perfume lovers as we truly find delight in sharing the love of perfume-- because what is the point of loving something if you have no one to share it with !💗)
What a fabulous friend you are!
I agree bought few perfumes that I smell on a person and don’t smell the same on me..
I got good results with the Scentbird quizz but actually every quizz I take gives me pretty much the same results, so if you feel stuck, doing some quizzes and seeing what comes up the same in all of them can help narrow a profile down
I just love you so much. Such a nice girl to help us!
Can you make a video about jewelry?
Yeah good one
I'm not able to wear pierced earrings as Anna cannot either and would like for her to tell us where she gets her clip on earrings.

Anna ? Why do you look different? Please stay Anna . Don’t try to change your face. Don’t mess with perfection. ❤
I use Oribe Gold Lust conditioner- not only is it a game changer for my hair, but I get compliments on my hair scent whenever I give a hug. ❤
I DEFINITELY LOVE floral: rose, lilac, lily of the valley, but I love fruity and different other scents! 🥰🤗💖
I wear Tiffany and Hermes. I love these 2 perfumes. And for essential oils frankincense and myrrh. These are my go to oils and pefumes.

Also, our seance of smell can often change with age.
I went out one day and a few people said I looked lovely and classy. I told them I have a style guru. It's you, Anna.
Absolutely! I agree, which is why I
Explained this over and over again in the video
To make it extra clear that you have to prioritize yourself in this
I really enjoyed this video because you are suggesting that people go and find their own signature perfume.
I totally agree. Scent can tell a lot about a person, and their life style.
I smell The Noir from Le Labo but in regards to the mainstream.. Pret a Porter is my housecoat. It costs a few pounds literally and I love it🤩
