As I have learned more information about the owner of “Scout Dixon West,” I no longer wish to support this brand.
For an alternative to “Incarnate,” I recommend Vaniglia by Laborattivo Olfattivo
You speak too fast, it's overwhelming but I loved being educated on making perfume last, thank you
@froufou100 you can just change the playback speed so it's more to your liking. Maybe try 75%. Setting icon --> Playback Speed
I’m a biochem major and I never even thought about how the BP of the oils can effect what you smell and how that even applies to the pyramid. I feel so stupid now cause that makes sm sense. I wanted to go into cosmetic chemistry, and the first 3 min made me even more interested in formulating perfumes
Now that you’ve done videos matching perfumes to books, and now mentioning books about perfumes… please give perfume book recs!!
I second this!!
Ooh this gave me flashbacks to Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins
Came to ask the same thing
yes my exact thoughts !!
Noteworthy just launched Priming Lotion, a product intended to help fragrances last. Can you review it please? Thanks
I learned more in this one video than what I’ve learned wearing perfume my whole life 😭
I could listen to you talk for hours tbh
Same!! I still appreciate timestamps for when I don't have time tho :)
Thank you, I’ve been wanting a 101 video! I’d next love to learn about terms like aldehydic, lactonic, anosmic, animalic, chypre, fougere, etc. that would be amazing. Thanks for sharing your tips and knowledge!
Love this idea.. and giving examples of perfumes that exhibit those terms 👍😊 that would be awesome.
my ex gf was anosmic, she couldn't smell anything and as far as I know it was congenital, she never complained about it. I was absolutely horrified she could eat plain pasta and be perfectly satisfied 😅
@@onerva.Wow that's so crazy
Ive described myself my whole life as having "smell colorblindness". Because i cannot recognise smells for the life of me. I can tell theyre there, but i cant tell what they are.
Theres nothing wrong with my nose... i feel like im just incapable to sort smells because i was never taught how to sort them. Kinda like how old texts describe the color of the sea as wine red? If you never learn orange exists, youre gonna call it yellow you know.
Channels like you help me discover a world of self expression i never knew existed. Thank you 🙏
My guess is that this is a long term memory problem (w only scents). Cause the way ur brain recognizes smells is through memory, if you’re unable to remember you won’t be able to tell
@@kyonaharris8239 interesting. Because I have the same "smell blindness" and I was wondering if it has something to do with it connecting smells to something and with kind of mindfulness/awareness.
I have the same problem with food. I can tell you if I like it or not, but I can't tell you if it's cherry or strawberry in the yogurt e.g. I was always told to just eat, don't question and just to do and just to follow what someone said. Now as a grownup I slowly start to explore and find out...also about fragrances 😊
Samee!! I can also never tell the different scents between flowers 😭😭 My mom will be like oh it smells like magnolia here and id just think what even is that, they all smell the same 🥲
You know you have to smell notes SEPERATELY first before you know to distinguish them out of a specific other substances/notes/scents because if you don’t even know what aldehyde smells like how would you know Chanel makes aldehydeic notes perfumes that how they are special 😂
@@shegoisateddy yes, im doing that...?
I love to spray to the small of my lower back. I feel like that’s an underrated heat point on the body.
Im 59 and when I was 19 I was into aromatics elixir it's very strong so I used to use a body lotion without perfume and spray the perfume onto the body lotion and apply the body lotion after a bath ,I used to get so many complements and that was just wearing it mixed with body lotion, it would last all night and my clothes would smell of it even when laundered I found it the best way to wear it for longevity, your video is great I've learned more thank you
Aromatics Elixir is so classy and sophisticated. I think of it as a Boss Lady fragrance and it's so amazing especially in the Winter season. Rich and powerful smelling ❤❤❤.
Thank you for teaching the technical term, "fragrance is incredibly beast mode"
This is EXACTLY the video I’ve been looking for. Fragrance are one of my greatest passions and understanding the science behind the scents is SO key!! Thank you!!
I had about 2 perfumes before I found your account. Now i have over 20. Send help
Send a new perfum 😁
Love how you spoke about "walk-through" fragrances like Mugler. Only the SAs really know this stuff and people who think Angel is unwearable should try the walk-through. Omg, you get such a heavenly experience that way - all of the deliciousness and none of the harsh patchouli overdose. Can't wait to try your other tips and especially your recommended lotions, Emma, thank you!
Thank you for such a kind comment! 3 years as a SA definitely helps!! I need to try wearing Angel like this!
Can you please explain the science behind what specifically causes the same fragrance to smell different on different people? Is it that their olfactory senses are different? Skin pheromone chemistry differences?
I paid attention to this video like I had an exam on it!! I didn’t even realise that until the video was over! Love it!!
Solid perfume would definitely be a lifesaver for me. I love the L’occitane Neroli & Orchidee perfume but it’s an eau de toilette and quite weak. I mix it with a body cream but it still doesn’t last as long as I’d like it. Having a better base for it to work with would literally be amazing. This is coming from someone who doesn’t like deep and overpowering scents btw!
Spray and walk-through technic is so helpful with a strong fragrance! I had a super strong fragrance that I liked but felt like I was choking every time I wore it. it was only when I used the walk-through method that it was more suitable for me and still lasted long!
I’m so glad it works for you!! I need to do it more tbh!!
Idea. Maybe say fragrance or add clogne to the description or title when you can. Some men definitely passed this video immediately thinking it's something for girls only. Not realizing perfume and calogne are the same thing so these tips help.
You are literally the perfume account of my dreams !! I feel like I get such good tips and recs
Thank you!!😫💗💗💗
Contrary to your recommendation (although you're correct), I sometimes spray on the front of my neck or the front of my upper body / décolleté - why? If I want to increase the enjoyment / perception of a scent for myself, but at the same time tone down how much people in my surrounding notice the fragrance, I find it convenient to do it this way.
But I have to admit, doing this with something like Cuir Beluga would send me on the shortest route to a shower.
You’re sooo well spoken and it’s obvious you’re very smart. Thanks for the video
I didnt know that about Mugler, always get a lot of compliments when wearing Angel or Alien. ✨️Angel✨️ is my favourite! I just spray it straight onto my wrists and neck.
It may depend on your tolerance level or chemistry. But the patchouli takes me out and I'm a patchouli fan.
Same! angel on me smells AMAZING! lots compliments ❤
@@CristinaM053 love it! 👼 🤍✨️
Hey!
I just wanted to tell you that English is not my first language and I generally find it difficult to comprehend native speakers without the help of subtitles.
However, I find it really easy to understand and intriguing when you speak!
You are a very good teacher. I learned quite a bit in a short amount of time! Thank you 😄
id listen to you talk about anything for hours
thank u
this is by far the best video I have seen that explains the underlying theory and/or concepts of perfumery. Please do more of such videos. thank you!
Hi Emma, I’ve always wondered what the difference between projection and sillage was. I learned a few more things about perfumes today. Thank you! 😊❤️🇨🇦
This is so nice thank you for the kind comment!❤
You're literally the best youtuber
You are so sweet!! Thank you sm!!!!
Omg. I think I found my signature scent because of you. I love Remember Me and hadn’t heard about it anywhere else. Thank you!
Very informative. Thanks. Maybe you can explain each notes and explain how each notes smells like, what mood they bring, suitability intensity according to activity, time of day, occasion etc.
This might be very specific but I really want a video about perfumes that smell like your hair smells when you get out of the shower. All the clean scents people talk about are always very green. I want to smell like Armani Prive Pivoine Suzhou, which smells like a shampoo a fairy would use. If that makes sense, clean but yummy, sweet, and fruity. Just want to know what other scents fall into this category. Also, I love your videos and have watched every single one. Since watching your videos I've really gotten into perfumery and the beauty of scents :)
Lattafa’s Bade’e Al Oud Sublime smells like a fruity shampoo to my nose. Giorgio Armani’s Si Passione smelled similar Sublime to my nose. I only tried Si in the store, so I can’t give you details about it.
I hope this helps.
@@tspencer661 Thank you so much, I’ll add them to my list :)
@@issybrown9340 You’re welcome.
I’m stuck in the inexperience Middle Eastern fragrance world. I mostly own Lattafa fragrances. The house has so many great fragrances. As far as I know, none of the fragrances I own are dupes.
If you like pineapple, I would recommend Lattafa’s Bade’e Al Oud Honor & Glory. It is an amazing fragrance. It is pineapple and spices.
It is a unisex scent that male and female fragrance reviewers love. I have received compliments when I’ve worn it.
If you decide to purchase it, let it macerate for at least a month. The first few sprays after it arrived were horrible. I couldn’t even tell that the scent was going to be wearable.🤢. After a month or more, I sprayed it and it was AMAZING!
Your voice is so soothing 😊
This is such a great compliment, thank you!
Love this! I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind covering a couple things in your next video: how do you know if you’ve sprayed too much, and what to do to reduce it? Also, I’ve seen people get called out in public for having overly strong perfume, what would you do in that case? Thanks for any info! I really want to smell good, but I’m always scared that I’m going to be annoying other people around me if it’s too strong 😢
Did you post the solid perfume name? I'm a little late to the game. Thanks for the longevity ideas. Now I understand more about why I get annoyed when they stop making lotions and shower gels of scents I like. I like layering. Great idea to use other lotions. ❤
The most important thing to know is that you should be considerate of other people. Just because you like a perfume doesn't mean that everyone wants to smell it from 10 miles away. People have allergies, scent triggered migraines, etc. You don't need to spray half the bottle on yourself.
Wow! I learned sm in only ten minutes 🤣 you explained everything do well, Ty for the tips! You are so gorgeous btw ❤️
Ooh this is great, thank you for the info! I would love a video on how to layer perfumes! I always hear people say they love layering their scents, and I have no idea what that means! Do I spray one spray of one perfume and then go in the same spot with another one? Do I spray one spray of one perfume and spray a spray of another perfume somewhere else? I'm just so confused haha.
You can do either! If you’re layering two alcohol based perfumes, you’re supposed to spray in different areas!
Thanks for the video! What's the vanilla perfume at 8:04? (a suggestion could be to list them in the description too if you want 😊)
Tihota
Interesting you describe Tihota as "beast mode" - I find it quite subtle! But I LOVE it.
Thanks Emma! I’m definitely trying the walkthrough with khamra ❤❤
So real!! Khamrah is INTENSE
I still love mugler it never lets me down the bottles are beautiful and refillable it lasts me ages and it's longevity is legendary in my book 😂 I'm low key worried they won't be making new ones tho.
Why wouldn’t they come out with new fragrances?
@@perfumerism I actually have no idea. But I think it's muglers death that makes me worried for the brand that lives on maybe losing a lot of the creative vision that used to be behind it. And I also read on this fragrantica site I love to stalk loreal got involved instead of clarins and they have been messing with the formula altho I have no way to verify if it's just gossip. But if it's true that sounds like a loss of creativity and uniqueness and quality and a huge embrace to overpriced mass marketed big target audience type stuff to me. This seems to correspond with the friendlier more crowd pleasing sweeter smelling concoctions they have released recently. Altho that could be the nose being the formulation changing too? Idk I'm thinking of alien goddess now that reminded me of posh Palmers coconut hair dress and sunscreen 😂 I'm actually curious if you know if this is actually a real thing you probably know so much about this stuff!
LOVED ❤😍your video, I have always applied my fragrances the way you explained since I was 12 ( I am 54 now 🤩) my mother taught me. Great info the the community on RUclips 🌺
Best perfume video I've ever seen. I'm not kidding. You taught so much better. I learned so much!!
THANK YOU!
You are explaining it so easily and understable! That is very interesting to know about perfum. Especcialy thank you for telling how to choose perfum as a healthcare worker! That are great advises!! Love this video ❤
Nobody ever taught me this thank you ❤
this was SO informative, i'll be on the lookout for good grabs this xmas and i'm definitely being more critical this year!!!!
I am not a total noob about perfumes, but this video sums up some great knowledge, I liked it, and also that you mentioned some perfumes (Incarnate was put into my I want it shelf immediately :) )
I love love powdery and top note heavy perfumes and it sucks that its chemically impossible for them to last long😂
But ill be sure to try your tricks for longevity👍
It’s really good to know how Mugler fragrances are supposed to be sprayed! I struggled with Angel because it was so strong that I found it almost pungent (although it’s still very fascinating, that’s why I kept it and still sniff it once in a while)
I'd love to know more about your favourite perfume books. I've heard lots about but not read Luca Turin or the Nez periodicals; Neil Chapman's In Search Of Your Signature Scent really helped me get to grips with the different notes.
I could listen to you talk for hours. Loved this!
you're so pretty!
Great video. Straight to the point, quick but clear. Thanks!
No rush......but where's the fall video girl I'm dying for it 😂
Sunday!
i'm commenting this a few times cuz i want you to see it... do a candle review video!! especially fragrance brands that have released candles, or just ones with interesting, nuanced, complex scents etc, and at different, esp affordable price points! pleasee!
Very informative video! How do you know if a fragrance is top heavy?
Wow I watch you on TikTok and was surprised to see you here! Honestly you got me interested in perfume just this year and enjoy and learn a lot from your videos! Thanks for making this 😊
THIS VIDEO IS SO GOOD OMG THANK YOU!
Thank you for this knowledge. Love the vlogger’s face and voice. Beautiful.
I spray on the top of the wrist and neck or walk through a stronger frag.
Thank you so much Emma I learned an insane amount in such a short time span! ☺️ Could you explain what you mean by boiling point on the skin?
Yes. Boiling point for water is 100C, so we have to heat water to that point for the water to evaporate. For many aromachemicals, your body heat is warm enough to cause the oils to evaporate.
LOVE this type of content 🤩 thank you so much for sharing some of your education with us ♥️
I wish there was more awareness of the physical effects wearing perfume has on the people around you. Person at a sports event was wearing SUCH a strong scent that I actually had to give up my (fantastic) seat and move back because it felt like my throat was bleeding each time I took a breath
I’m sorry that happened to you. Out of curiosity, what brings you to this video?
Oh your video is super cute and helpful ❤❤❤ I'll be very grateful for the recommendation of strong coffee ☕️ perfume, but not with vanilla base. I have Akro Awake, but it still very sweet 😅 tysm
i can't believe i finally found someone who doesn't overspray
I loved this video. It was very informative and makes a lot of sense. Would you do a video on perfumes that you feel would fit into these different categories. Strong projection Vs weak or moderate? Strong vs weak vs moderate sillage etc ?
Thank you I have always rubbed my wrist together after applying perfume. Do you recommend perfume oils to be similar to the perfume you're wearing?
Hi Emma, I have heard about Eccentric Molecules - M01 or M02, use one of these as a base to improve longevity of the perfume.
Wanted to ask your opinion about that ?
I use Molecule O1 with lighter fresher perfumes. Amazon has some cheaper alternatives of ISO E Super that works great. Oak City Beard Company has an extrait to parfum of ISO E Suoer for $27.
Love this informative content!! Maybe a video abt ur longest-lasting fragrances?
I would love hiur advice on how to layer oil based perfumes since you mentioned we arent supposed rub them together. Thank you in advance
You can rub oil based fragrances!!
Wonder if makeup primer would work well also before applying the perfume? 🤔 Thank you for your knowledge and explaining. Could you do a review on cheap vanilla type perfumes and oils please? I just got the la rive vanilla touch yesterday after shower just used an og Nivea moisturizer doesn't smell pretty just clean but I sprayed the vanilla touch on and woke up still smelling vanilla caramel cookie😊 9euro for 90ml in the store so why not! I want to add more of these type of gourmand scents to my collection as I got really sick of those expensive designer ones that I just let sit on my shelve for years lol. I use use them in my bathroom handsoup container though 🤣 buy cheap handsoap and put quite a few sprays in and boom. Always some use in a way instead of throwing out 😊
thank you for the info!! super helpful
So I've been a fraghead for quite a while now, and i know perfumes are not really meant to be sprayed in your armpits, but when i spray them in my armpits they last longer. And imo i think the perfume even smells more sweeter than what they're supposed to. Idk why but can anybody explain to me if the thing that im doing is correct
That was a great informative video and I almost didn’t watch it! I thought it was just going to be the typical longevity video - and you did cover that, but so much more. Thank you.
Loooooved this video, you’re literally the best!
You're so darling and this was very informative, thank you xx
How I did it? I switched to Middle Eastern perfumes.
And two, I use my perfume bottles as decants, and I have travel atomizers in 8 ml for each fragrance that are bottom filling, I then pump them with 2 pumps of Ambroxan EDP, fill the rest with perfume, and the top notes linger for hours and hours.
How many sprays do you do in one spot? My skin just eats most fragrances. Also, I can’t remember if you like Burberry Goddess? But the new Lattafa Angham is such a nice dupe of it that lasts longer
I love Burberry Goddess! Will 100% have to try Angham!
Thanks, that's really informative and all-in-one-place :)
I would like to know if applying on wrists change if I wear a watch? I guess that could iritate my skin underneath or cause more heat under the strap/bracelet, which changes how perfumes evaporate?
Emma, I would love to receive knowledge from you about what is the research today regarding the health safety of using perfumes? How can I know that I bought a quality perfume in terms of ingredients?❤
Do you have TikTok? I have a video up on this! www.tiktok.com/@perfumerism/video/7373327920065973510?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc&web_id=7380535072752944646
Not gonna lie I’m certain they’re ALL horrible for you & I’m a collector with a giant collection😅It does freak me out sometimes😬
This was SO helpful. You just gained a subscriber 🙏🏾
Is it fine to rub in perfume oil? I always do, but I wasn’t sure if doing so affected the performance of the perfume!
Absolutely!
the solid perfume isn't available in Europe yet :( What are your thoughts on mixing perfume/perfume oil in a small jar of vaseline?
Thank you for sharing this video. I have learned very nice and useful information. But I am still confused about using perfume. Sometimes, even when I apply perfumes with high silage and longevity for 5 applications, I cannot get any feedback from those around me about the spread of the perfume. It definitely depends on skin type and mine is very dry.
You look so pretty
What books do you recommend on perfumery?
Lots of great fragrance knowledge distilled into one video! Looking forward to more
love this content, queen 👑
so helpful thank you girl
Wow, nice! Love the tips on enhancing fragrance longevity! 💖
I also like spraying on the back of my neck, I feel like I get nose blind if I put it on the front and when applying from the back it kinda laced a scent trail
I'm getting algorithm'd into buying new perfumes
Amazing 🎉glad I stumbled across your page ! Love your videos & contents ❤🙌🏽👍🏽
Nice overview! Straight to the point
Now create content about maturation, maceration, aging, of fragrance. How about the fact that maturation to make fragrance more bold and more beastmode. And how relate about EXpirated date fragrance.bbecause maturation can be for 5 years next
Tihota Indult!❤❤❤ I’ve been wanting to try that forever! 💔
Hey Emma what is a date night perfume you would recommend for someone who doesn't like sweet scents?
Thank you for this!!
I love this video, thanks for this great info 🙏🏻
Will you do more purfume oil recommendations? I'm looking for good ones.
