"I did not notice the weight of the chains till they're cut from me How'd I drag them for so long?" is an actual crazy lyric. Homme was cooking with this one.

everything about this track is immaculate, the catharsis is palpable. the end of this song feels like you've finally triumphed over something insurmountable, crawling out of that pit that 'i appear missing' depicted so well. it's freeing, uplifting, inspiring, in a way that only josh and the crew can do. the defiance of "if i followed you, i would be lost too, that can never be!" - wow. the whole album is incredible, but this song will age like the finest of wine.
i listened to so much i appear missing in a dark period of my life. this song and "like clockwork" accompanied me in these moments. I triumphed and today made to parade is my favorite on the new album. your analysis is perfect
From 3:08 to the end of the song is the best work on the whole album. Not trying to take away from the rest of the song or album, but the controlled chaos during that two minutes and eleven seconds is perfection.
And then there's TOOL. I love them both. Simply cannot choose. This album... game changer for Q, I think. Or perhaps not. Too many sheeple around to fully appreciate it and raise it to its level of deserved fame. [IDGAF if folx think I'm condescending.]
Goddamn, 3:09 the song goes from great to transcendent. What an incredible 2 minutes. I'm in love with the album after the first listen, so glad they're back.
Transcendent is also the word I would use, looooove the switch to major key in this part of the song. Honestly I wish this song was more towards the end. Maybe even the album closer! You want to leave the listener on a high note at the end of the album, plus the fade out and Josh's "wooo"s here and there make it seem like he's moved on from the pain and despair he's lived through leading up to this album. Would have been interesting to if Emotion Sickness were the opener, given how both of these songs have a fade out. Maybe Emotion Sickness represents how well his life was going before COVID (healthy body, healthy marriage, healthy friendships), the middle of the album drags him down due to cancer, the divorce, so many friends dying, then Made to Parade to close showing how such is life and we can't wallow in despair forever. We need to move on to live a better life, and that's what everyone would want at the end of the day
That 2nd half hits hard. So far I'm noticing I love the 2nd half of all these songs more than the first half. Not that I don't like the first half it's just that they sure finish strong which will make me come back for more. Definitely not repetitive
It's like the first half is the premise, the set-up. And then they proceed to elaborate and continue the intricate story now that we've heard the introduction
I don't like the second part much, it feels like.there is an optimistic twist, like teenagers and the end school getting into summer. Teenagers better dead
@steve rainingagain I can appreciate that. I'm such a guitar guy that I think harmonies were building up pretty smooth towards the end. I'm hearing new things over the whole album with each listen.
My favourite song on the entire album. They are really good at producing songs like this. Previously it was I Appear Missing or Un-Reborn Again. In the second half I get a strong vibe of I Appear Missing, especially live version of that song, where they extended the outro. I'm sure Homme will have some fun with that solo at the end when playing it live.
This might have finally topped In The Fade as my favorite QOTSA song. The first half that builds the whole song up is great and the 2nd half is just immaculate.
This is by far my favorite song of the entire album (and has already entered my QOTSA Top 3) . Truly mesmerizing stuff in the second half. Just one thing: In the lyrics provided there are a few mistakes in the last verse. It should be: So you’re made to parade with the mess you made? Well by all means If I followed you I’d be lost too That can never be So you’re made to parade with the mess you made? Well float away If I followed you I’d be lost too That can never be
Queens of the Stone Age has been and always will be my favourite band by a mile, point and case: this song. true Queens fans know what i mean when i say there's always a little secret ingredient in each and every song that makes it truly Queens. in this song it undoubtedly is that super cheeky guitar lead at 1:05 . It's so perfect and infectious I've been humming it to myself daily since the album came out. God damnit I love Queens
What a bloody lyric So deep in message, singing, whole band performance. Sound mix, just huge. Definitely a massive poetry, with the pleasure of a loud song.
This song caught my attention from just reading the title for the first time, as a parade is mentioned in Kalopsia and I just felt it would be one of my favorites. The lyrics are so direct and well done, despite the theme it touches the song refuses to sound like a downer and instead is very groovy, with the dance-e synth and a happy sounding guitar solo at the end which fades like if Josh was walking away, exiting victorious, or perhaps just accepting, understanding the world where we stand. It's so good and somewhat reminiscing of Villains.
The song’s title is a phrase commonly used in association with Them Crooked Vultures, a ‘super’ group comprised of Josh Homme (their current frontman), Dave Grohl (their former drummer, also Nirvana drummer & Foo Fighter frontman), and John Paul Jones (bassist/keyboardist led zeppelin). ‘Made to Parade’ was found printed on the t-shirts made for the group, poking fun at the definition of a parade, which is typically a procession in a public place in order to “show off” or be seen.
for anyone who hasn't seen them live, do yourself a favor and go see them! they might be at their best right now. Saw them inQueens NY last weekend. FUCKING UNBELIEVABLE!

Hands down, my favorite track. If "I Appear Missing" and "Unreborn Again" had a love child, this would be it.
spot on
Both songs are fantastic! And this adds appropriately...
Unreborn again sucks out loud. This, on the other hand, is solid gold..
Absolutely! For me, both of those of those tracks really take off in the latter half and I feel this does the same
I was thinking the same thing. Those are my 2 favorite songs by them and this song definitely feels like those 2 mixed
"I did not notice the weight of the chains till they're cut from me

"Made To Parade"
Climb that ladder
You gotta hold your tongue
You better turn a blind eye 'fore they take your other one
Kneel and bow
Take your licks
You gotta swallow your pride, hope success comes quick
Back that up
Run like a rabbit, as fast as you can
'Cause we all trade for what we want
Is what you get worth you gave up?
If you're alright
Then you're made to parade
After years at the company winning
From the high horse you will ride
You will look down at the peasantry
Kill themselves to make you smile
Slake your thirst, bitches
Come get what you deserve
Kill the very last whale aboard a yacht of fur
Binge and purge
I did not notice the weight of the chains till they're cut from me
How'd I drag them for so long?
Drain the ocean
All I am is what you mean to me
How I love you above all
What you worship is your god
You're sure to be a winner, babe
Give your best years away
To a bloated corporation
Who'll work you like a slave
Best think twice
Oh, I don't know what time it was
I just felt so young with a brand new page in the morning sun
So you're made to parade with the mess you made?

Me as well. Hearing Bowie eeriness here. Now that I'm turning into the old man Bowie's music meens more than before. Good work Queens !
3:09 when I first listened I immediately thought of My God Is The Sun when I heard “oh I don’t know what time it was” such an incredible song
Amazing. Old ideas that melts with new intuitions. The mid section chorus is kind of a reprise of the TCV "Reptiles" chorus.
