This song sounds like it was recorded in first try, like they were just jamming and Someone said: lets see how far this groove takes us. Long live QOTSA!

Ok this makes sense about the album. I'm not sure what their official stance / word / statement is but many songs on this album sound like some from previous albums. I listen to this album in my work car over and over and over on repeat. I got in after an appointment, turned the CD player on, was finishing up work notes and thought I was listening to them crooked vultures. I've "heard" songs off this album from vulgaris and lullabies for sure.
@@torys8236 The album is a lot of perfecting historical QOTSA sounds and introducing some new ones or putting them in new contexts. It's a fantastic album! It's a great nod to die hard fans like me. They've pulled out old riffs before. They do it a decent amount. The Evil Has Landed was a riff Josh wrote early on in Rated R sessions. Couldn't find a way to make it work until Villains. @@chadgrovok so, I'm RIGHT at the end of cassettes and have tons of CDs including this album. I've never bought a record until this album (I scored a green one) and my brother keeps telling me to get a record player. What's so different about it? I think this album is better than the last one. The last one was pretty good, but it feels like they honed in on what makes their music so damn good. Killer riffs but also a killer groove. I've been a fan of them for over 20 years now.
Loving this one! Such a groove. I know people like Queens for their lyrical prowess or for all of the zigs rather than zags they take in their songs, but this one to me offers an underlying palette via the drums, bass, and guitar that the vocals and solo can mess around on. Very jam-y and offers a vibe more than a journey like a song might otherwise do, and that's ok
