So happy to see you addressing this again. I NEVER treat my own hair, but always have full highlights done. I am not happy with how much hair was foiled last month and am now wanting to do a root smudge, balayage, or lowlights on myself. Any advice? Thank you for being such a wealth of hair color knowledge and sharing with us❣️

Hey, Elle! Can you do a dedicated video on redheads? I’m a natural redhead, but have been experimenting over the last couple years with different tones, and I find there really isn’t a lot of info out there for natural redheads. For example, I have very cool toned skin, and although my hair is more of a strawberry blonde naturally, I find a deep burgundy shade is not only the most flattering on me, it tends to add some life to my face. Had I gone more of a copper shade, I don’t necessarily think it would have been as flattering.

I think my natural color is between a 6 and a 7. I had highlights that I hated, so I used a level 7 (wella tng) dye and it turned out extremely brassy, especially the roots where my natural color was. I was just trying to go for my natural color, or as close as I could get, but I think I made a mistake by using the volume 20.
So am I understanding the video right? Do I need to go down a level with a volume 10 developer? Any help would be very much appreciated 🙏

This is what happened to me yesterday I'm not colored my hair in over 11 years I'm starting to get some sporadic rays and The Roots
And my natural color overall is a mousy ash brown
I went yesterday to get my hands dusted and my hairdresser/friend talked me into covering my Gray's which I talked a lot about so I am not blaming her at all only found out today that she put a level 7 Na with 20 volume developer on my route and it lifted about two shades lighter than my natural hair color
My roots were Orange the worst part is when someone that is doing your hair knows what happened but they refuse to be forthright about it and pretend like it looks so great on you it makes me want to crawl out of my skin
I wanted to cry but I knew it was my own fault I should have left my darn hair alone
Today I go back for her to darken up my roots and she did darken up the root but there is still a very orange tone in my route and my hair overall
      😔

I use blondeme by Schwarzkopf instant blush spray in steel blue when my roots get brassy orange. I will leave it in for as many hours as possible. So far, that has been the best remedy I have found. Although the bottle says, you don't have to rinse it out, I don't feel right not washing it out. But I will leave it in as long as possible.

It IS a great product! I just wish it smelled better! I love the Kevin Murphy blonde angel for this reason...it IS slightly less pigmented than @Fanola No Yellow though! The most comparable purple shampoo I have found if you cant get Fanola or Kevin Murphy would be either Pulp Riot Barcelona (super pigmented) or the Schwarzkopf one (rich, nice formula that doesnt feel super drying like so many do). I have been dying to try the Fanola foam formulas I have seen on Tik Tok videos, those transformations are always so impressive!

Fanola is so incredibly drying and not hydrating at all.
Try Milkshake purple shampoo and conditioner, I've used it once and was able to (very very easily) get all knots out, whilst running the shampoo through the lengths of my hair if that says anything about how moisturising and nice it is. It was like magic. So pigmented, and smells a million times better than fanola.

I have the worst luck with stylists where I live. No matter who I go to something goes wrong. They don't listen.
I've tried 4 stylists in the last few months. Something went wrong everytime. Even when I let them "correct" it. 🤦‍♀️ I have nice long hair but I'm half fantasizing about shaving my head & starting over I am so frustrated. 😔💔
I just went back to an old stylist for a few highlights today. I remember why I quit going to her now. No matter how intensely I express hating brass-orange undeveloped highlights. She manages to give me orange every dang time. Uggg!!! Now I gotta go back & let her ATTEMPT to do something about her screw up. I am so sick of this!!!
I could have bought a $500 wig at this point.

Is that a redken toner? I went to my stylist to get my hair lightened during a balayage and it ended up orange in some places, blonde in others, but I am a natural very dark brown hair. I had my hair dyed with red henna before I bleached them. They are now orange at the bottom and blond where the henna already grew out 🤦🏼‍♀️and the straight out orange is now a brassy blond, wich is not what I wanted but I can live with it much better than the orange 😅 I applied 'sand' and 'ice' at the yellow blond roots and steel blue aon the orange parts and my hair color is a t least somewhat blond and socially acceptable 😅 could be better If a salon did it but the toners worked great 😊

I’m a level 5. I’ve been using 506NJ and 20 vol (Matrix) for gray coverage. Maybe 15% gray. I CANNOT get the orange toned. One thing I got from your video is, I’m trying to use way too light of a toner. So that’s one thing I can fix. Do you think the level 6 and 20vol is what’s doing it? Do you think I should go down to a level 5? I still work in a salon as a receptionist (I’m still licensed but not practicing) so I have access to Redken and could get help mixing it. But I’m not super familiar with it. Only Goldwell and Matrix. I’m desperate to get the orange out! Any tips? Thank you, this video was amazingly informative.

I have a question that I can't seem to find an answer to. I get blonde babylights all over my head, and just use my natural root color, nothing else. The past few times I have gotten my highlights done, with two different hair dressers, the toner washes out immediately, and I'm left with goldish yellow high lights instead of cool toned ones. I even wash my hair with expensive color shampoo AND have started washing it in cool water. Some highlights particularly on the crown portion of my hair have a yelllow/gold tint to them that will NOT go away, no matter how much they get highlighted and toned. Other parts of my hair have lifted to a nice icy blonde. It's only at the top portion of my hair and not even purple shampoo will get the yellow out. Is this from overlapping color? A little over a year ago, I had a root smudge to correct some highlights, and six months prior to that, I had a base bump on my hair, which I did not want. It turned the top of my hair orangey. I am not sure if those two things are causing the issue. I just want to get the yellow tint out of my highlights but don't know what to do. They do not lift or hold on to toner for long at all.

Ok so I am a level 4 and I want to go level 7. I should use a lightener (bleach) on the roots then 7N toner?

    • @sarabara29
      @sarabara29 3 года назад +1

I'm not Sylvia, but please go to a professional to get highlights to start, or you will thrash your hair! (TRUST ME, I have learned this the hard way!) If money is an issue, depending on your location, you may be able to go to a beauty school and at least have a student that is supervised do them for a very reasonable price! A professional hairdresser would be ideal, but I understand there are a lot of reasons we are all DIYIng things lately! Just don't want you to have to suffer through hating your hair on top of all the other crap we have gone through the past year! The theory is correct, but putting straight bleach on all your hair isn't necessary to get to a level 7, since you would achieve that same thing, with more dimension and less damage, with a full highlight service followed by a tone! You can definitely do toner yourself, but DIY all over bleach has always, always, always resulted in so much more agony than saving a little money is worth!! (Also, I'm not a professional hairdresser if it's not obvious, but I am an esthetician, hence the beauty school recommendation). Good luck!
Edited to add: to anyone following my advice to book their hair COLOR service at a beauty school, I recommend requesting a senior about to graduate if possible! If you're just getting a blowout or style or trim, then it's not so much of an issue, but with bleach especially, I would definitely recommend a senior. :)

I want my hair to be the late really blonde you know I guess bleached almost bleached but maybe a summer blonde and then on the front you know going from the root all the way down to the end of the hair and then the same on the other side and then the next part of the hair. I would like to be a dark brown and then the from the root all the way down. Then the next level be the blonde, the real real blonde. Maybe a caramel blonde looking thing. Maybe instead of the white bleach bond maybe say caramel okay on the next strip from the root all the way down. What is that called? That's what I've been wanting done to. My hair is so bad and nobody understands what I'm saying here and Gadsden Alabama

I am that brunette that wants to be dark blonde and I use Garnier Belle Color 4, Dark Ash Blonde, and after a few weeks it's warm indeed and I need to dye again. But I don't mind? Why? A baleage or baby light would be extremely expensive and also would not cover my first greys. They would have to dye my entire hair Brown and then do the baby lights which would take hours every 2-3 weeks. I don't have the money and the energy and honestly I don't like hair dresser, they never listen. So I just use my dark ash blonde, sometimes a light ash brown. I use soft water and the Fanola No Orange Shampoo you mentioned.

Please explain what I need to do and name the products. Please, I need help and spent so much on the extensions, I have to do the coloring myself.
