  • This film, intended for dealerships, shows the improvements made to a lightly face-lifted Mark III Ford Sierra towards the end of this model's life. The new version boasts such refinements as body-coloured bumpers and tinted glass as standard. The aim was for the car to "compete with the best the competition can offer". Only a year later the "jellymould" gave way to the Mondeo.

The final versions of the Sierra, especially with the clear or smoked lights, were actually smart looking cars. And by 1992, despite being a 10 year old design at its core, it didn’t look too outdated compared to its rivals.

MrMayonEgg It was definitely a massive improvement on the 1600 LX I had before! And the performance? OMG! Blip the throttle at 70 mph and it would surge up to 130 effortlessly.
Miss those days, hardly any speed cameras, no smart motorways, no sat-navs affordable insurance and petrol at 50 p a litre. What happened??

Ronald Reagan I was nearly 26 when I bought that car. I bought my semi-detached 3 bedroom house at 23, I went to the US on my holidays 6 times in 8 years.
I never went to university, left school with only 2 O levels.
I also bought another brand new car 16 months later and was still able to save £700 a month from my ‘average’ salary as it was then.
I doubt that today’s 25-year olds will ever be able to do those things.
      And politicians call it progress?
I consider myself bloody lucky to be born when I was. I feel very sad for today’s young generation 😢

@@X-Typewoes Well you might be right. Also mine was a somewhat basic trim level (it had the new DOHC carburated engine, a sunroof, power steering and 5 alloys wheels, but no tach for some reason) wich would explain why it had plastic bumpers and no spoiler on the trunk.
Too bad no one is making car like this anymore. Basic, reliable, spacious, affordable RWD sedan that where a tons of fun to drive like an idiot and pretty confortable on long journeys.

The white sapphire in this clip is in a ford magazine I'm reading and it's a preproduction car as its got the grill less bonnet from the hatchback. I got a 2 year old white 5 door 1.8LX in 1991 virtually at the same time as my dad ordered his metallic black 2.0 XR4X4 5 door brand new from Hartfords ford in banbury. Both of them were great cars then, both very fondly remembered, love to have them both now despite sadly my elderly dad giving up driving.

Yeah, this was good Sierra, but Sierra was good from at the beginning also. This new Sierra was in producing 1991-1993 february or something like that. It is interesting, it's like old 1982 Sierra in many things, but still not the same, many things are changed.
1983 year Ford Sierra was my first street car and i admire it still. It could be good hobby car, but i have enough money for second car. I had 6 Ford Sierras several 1983(2,0 and 2,3 gasoline, also ghia), one 1987, one 1989 both 2,3 diesels 49kw and one 1992 2,0 gasoline 85 kw GT.

I can imagine how cool it was to have these features in the MK3. Especially with the Sierra's evergreen design, it never gets old. However they wanted us to forget, but there were several extras that the MK1 had, and they took away from it, when the Scorpio came out. And MK1&2 had that classical Sierra design. But they wanted to look as a brand new car, so they changed the dashboard, to a more rounded type. For me it doesn't really fit with the original car design. The Sierra was a pioneer, when it came out. It didn't look like a typical angular 80s car. It was angular, but every shape was rounded, not like the others. But if you compare it to a 90s car (for example: Mondeo), you can clearly see the differences. And they tried to make the Sierra look like a Mondeo, with that new dash, steering wheels, switches, etc. I admit, it might look as a fresh design when it came out, but today, after more than 20 years since the last model left the factory, I say: f*ck the plastic, keep the classic. Just look at an MK1 Ghia. With that older type of steering wheel, and the original dash. What a look! Every little detail were designed all together. The inside to the outside, and vice versa. Those chrome lines in the windows, and in the bumpers. I'm melting. But if you look at the MK3, the exterior still looks like an MK2, but the inside feels like it comes from an other car. And yeah, most of these extras (or even more, than in an MK3) were avaliable too, maybe for a bigger price, but it was up to you to buy it, or not. The only thing we really needed was the DOHC, a great engine. Everything else was there before.

How could they try to make the Sierra look like a Mondeo, the Sierra was the Mondeo's predecessor, they didn't sell them at the same time.
