Over here in the States I have owned 3 Merkur Xr4Tis over 34 years. Fell in love with the XR4i when Car And Driver magazine had a sidebar article back in '84. I have an '87 model at this point in time.
There's an '84 2.0L Station Wagon in my collection. I bought it to teach my eldest grandson some mechanical skills and the car was so nice to drive, I've kept it. I had an '85 wagon as a company car when it was new and thought it was quite refined, back then...
That was the closest average folk could get to luxury, .... pretty, extremly spaceous, silent, comfy, rock solid engineering, briliant engines, even the 1,6L got decent punch and could last easily, 300, 400k km's without major repairs. Father got the late Mk1 (85/86) 2.3D, made in Belgium .... the most spaceous 3-door car you could imagine, tons of headroom even in back, massive trunk. It wasn't as silent as the petrol powered but I still loved the sound and vibrations :) I loved sleeping with such "background". Bought is at 212k km's, sold at almost 550k, it was rusty, interior did desintegrate alot, but it was still fit. Only had tranny refurished once. Today, when I see a Sierra, I always turn my head.
We were amazed by Sierra when it was launched in South Africa in 1984 - Back then all it's competitors were still angular boxes, and here came a shape and styling nearly out of a Buck Rogers episode! Production shifted from Port Elizabeth on the East coast, to Pretoria in the late 80's. The XR6 models issued to SA Police Flying Squad units only ever had some niggles with that M9 gearbox, but apart from that, it was a machine! The 1.6 L Kent and 2.0 Cologne models were very competent too.
It was never a great car...but it was a Good car that served a purpose...had a 1986 xr4x4i 2.8 same with the Rover R8 214sei I owned in 1999...far from perfect but both punched above their weight back in the day
Had a 2.3 litre V6 Ghia back in the day. Great car.
The beautifulst Car ever ❤️

Very good car, both beautiful and rough same time.

I own one Sierra. Its a 1988 2.0 115 hp and it still drive like new. This still goes 200kph on the autobahn.

El Shuwix took my 89 2.3d to 265000km , slow as anything but tough and still missed, never had a Ford since they just don't build anything I'd want.

Right on first curvaceous car.
A good spec mk1 Sierra is still a pretty thing today,I had a c reg xr4x4 in the early 90's but always coveted a friends 4x4 ghia estate...
LIGHT YEARS ..Ahead of its time.
Spot the mistake at 2:37 - that is an Escort Mk.III dashboard, not a Sierras!
Such a beautiful sedan. Much more progressive than anything we see today, with that grilleless nose and those huge windows.
Beautiful car,very avant garde
I wonder how aerodynamic the car is compared to modern stuff like the latest Mondeo? I reckon it is still pretty good.
wow I had no idea these were actually made of clay, such a clever solution to prevent rust etc :-)
Sounds like the narrator is Simon Taylor.
SIERRA XR4I TOP AUTO 🇩🇪❤

один недостаток-прогрев зимой, а так машина огонь, 3 года езжу и очень доволен.
Картонка. Или выкидывание вискомуфты и установка электровента от нивы
