    A true masterpiece. Fantastic ending. This journey has been an incredible experience, thank you all so much for tagging along for the ride. (Yes I know Agro is a girl but I accidentally referred to her as a ‘he’ at the end.)
    Also, please read the description for those wondering why I kept looking at my camera during the cutscenes.

    People often say "I wish I had never played [game] so I can experience it for the first time." For me, Shadow of the Colossus is the only game that I can always go back to and immediately feel that same wonderment as I did back in 2008 when I first played this on a PS2. Favorite game of all time, hands down. That ending especially left me so emotionally drained.

    This is my favorite game, and probably will be forever. The way it messes with not just your emotions but your sense of morality, and toys with the idea that all things have both a light side and a dark side. As you kill each colossi Wander absorbs the dark side and Mono absorbs the light, Wander is surrounded by shadow shadow people and Mono is surrounded by doves, and in the end you are the bad guy, not Wander, not Dormin, not Lord Emon, you the player. I truly love this game.

  • @sebastiancawsey5024
    @sebastiancawsey5024 2 года назад +14

    I remember having so many ethical and psychological debates during my first playthrough of this masterpiece. Especially around the mid-game. At first I'm playing this as a player, after defeating a few colossus, I find myself debating on the consequences of my actions, in game, while riding to the next colossus, testing my resolve, arguing over the moral right to kill these magnificent colossi, even weighing the girl's resurrection against my own dedication to complete these trials. The vast emptiness and wonderous scenery of this forbidden paradise gave you real pause and time to be reflective or pensive throughout the game. Something very few games can do.
    Those feelings and conflicts with our conscience made us connect with Wander on such a profound level that we were completing this quest; not as us playing as Wander, but us being Wander.
    I'm sure we were all tearing when Agro returned at the end.
    More so than Wander's reincarnation/rebirth, I was most surprised that Dormin; who we had believed to be a demon so terrible, his spirit was split into 16 pieces to be sealed away, having such resentment and spite against his imprisonment, KEPT HIS WORD. A villain... honoured his end of the bargain by resurrecting Mono. Making me believe Dormin is not as wicked as he was made out to be.
    Which just started up another inward debate about who was truly evil. The villagers, Dormin, Wander, Mono?
    But this is just my own opinion. Still, one of the most incredible games ever made.

    Ever since I played SotC on the PS2 way back in the day it’s sat comfortably as my favorite game ever. But I never thought it was a game that would make for good let’s plays. Because there’s so much empty space and silence, I thought having someone else fill it up with their thoughts would ruin it in a way.
    I’m happy to say that you’ve proven me very very wrong. This was a wonderful series and you’ve absolutely done this game justice. It was clear early on that you were absorbing it and really trying to think about what the game was trying to do. This is a game you can only experience for the first time once, but seeing you struggle and triumph over each colossi, take in the mysterious landscapes and wonder at their purpose, and slowly grow attached to your one and only companion was as close as I’ll ever get to experiencing it blind again.
    Shadow of The Colossus is a one of a kind game and I think you’ve shown a lot of new people just why that is, as well reminding us returning players.
    You’ve done a great job with this series Ele, can’t wait to see what you do next.

    I was so sad that Wander could not meet with Mono again as how he was before turning into a baby, I still remember how emotional it was to see Agro coming back, this is the kind of game that you never forget, it's so well done, even if the game is short and has not a lot of narrative, it's still so strong. Time for some Ico now, it's more of a puzzle game like The Last Guardian, I'm looking forward to it. :)

    Hello NukaEle. I am writing to you from Chile, Latinamerica. I've always liked this game, but a lot. I played it when I was about 11 or 12 years old and didn't understand much of things. He didn't quite understand why Wander did what he did. Then I grew up and just like Wander I know what love is, I know what it is to defeat giant Colossi and overcome some of the most difficult tests of your life. I know what a loss means and to wish the best for someone when you have to separate, just as Wander separates from his love and Agro from him, everything, everything so that they are well. This game is a masterpiece as you say and to this day, at 26 years old, I am still in love with this game. I love everything. Thank you for sharing your adventure with us. Thank you. I don't speak your language, I speak Spanish and I understand little of what you say.

    The first time I ever played Shadow of the Colossus was in 2006, days before the game release in English, and in that time the game was really amazing and unique, even with so many games for ps2.
    Through the years I've forgot the feelings of a first time adventure in SOTC, seen you play made me remember the difficulties I had to find the solutions to defeat the colossus, and the feelings of seeing Agro fall in that bridge; that end is still special for me, even after so many years, It is the conclusion of a big work of art made of music, images, metaphors, and connections between the player and that universe, indeed one of the best games of all times, thank you for sharing your first experience playing SOTC with us.

    I wouldn't necessarily take the view that Dormin was evil. It was upfront and did state that the price would be high, and it did keep its word by resurrecting Mono, plus it did effectively give Wander a second chance at life too. So i don't think it's as black and white as it seems.
    If you ever do decide to play Ico, the connection to Shadow will become immediately apparent beside the fact that it is its prequel.

    • @DemonLordSparda
      @DemonLordSparda 6 лет назад +9

      It's hard to tell who's good and evil and I love that. Wander knew the lands he was traveling to were forbidden and dangerous. He was specifically seeking Dormin to bring Mono back. Dormin states it can do that if Wander defeats all the Colossi but the price will be high. Wander doesn't care at all, he's single minded and selfish in his goal.
      Emon and his guards arrive to make sure "Evil" doesn't escape. However Dormin accuses Emon (possibly humans in general) of severing its body into 16 pieces, which is the event that forced earth, stone, sand, and other things to become Colossi. The Colossi were not native to that land, and they all had a piece of Dormin in them. Also Emon knew of Dormin (hardly surprising, he's a shaman of Wanders people and Wander knew of Dormin), and we know for a fact Mono was killed. It's suspected she was sacrificed by Emon for some reason, but either way Emon may not be the good guy despite sealing away "evil".
      Dormin is clearly a deity of some kind. Dormin is associated with shadows and controlling the dead. However Dormin never lies, and Dormin fulfills its end of the agreement with Wanader. No one knows what occured to make humans split Dormin into 16 pieces to seal its power. The best guess is that some bad event occurred or some humans viewed Dormins dominion over the dead as dangerous or scary. Humans had to have lived in the Forbidden lands for quite a long time for them to build those massive structures. Was Dormin there the whole time as Humans built and lived? Was it a group of zealots who rebelled against Dormin? We will never know anything outside of the Forbidden Lands having been lived in long ago.
      The only innocents in the story are Mono (ya know, probably) and Aggro. Everything else is drenched in mystery and someone conflicted viewpoints on the whole event that was Dormin being split into 16 pieces. It's fascinating to think about, and it's a shame there aren't some more clues. But damn it's pretty complex for a relatively short game with limited story elements.

    I played this when it first came out on PS2 back in the day. (Hell! was it really 17 years ago?) I'd already played "Ico" by the same game designer, so I expected a lot from Shadow of the Colossus, and my hopes were fulfilled in more ways than I could have expected.
    I loved the way the emotion came over you when Agro was lost, and then again when he returned, but the emotions I felt more were the feelings of regret, ultimate defeat and (surprisingly) guilt at the end of the game. I can't honestly say I've ever played a game before where the things I've caused the playing character to do, have left me with any feeling of guilt, let alone the immense feeling of guilt I felt at the climax of Shadow of the Colossus.
    It's certainly the best game EVER on any Playstation in many senses, not least in terms of atmosphere, and I'd still be playing it today, if a) I hadn't lent it to my niece's son when he got a PS2 for Christmas, and b) if a couple of years later, the little bugger hadn't sold it with his PS2 when he caught the Xbox bug!
    There's a school of thought that says that "Shadow of the Colossus" is actually a kind of prequel to "Ico" - that the baby that's left behind after Wanda has gone is actually Ico, that he's raised to adolescence by Mono and then escapes from the forbidden land, only to be the boy with horns that's captured and imprisoned in the same castle where the princess Yorda has also been imprisoned by her mother. If you haven't played Ico, you should try to get a copy compatible with your particular PlayStation model. It doesn't have quite the depth of Shadow of the Colossus, but there's a similar atmosphere throughout, and the puzzle solving aspects of the game are very intense.

    I got this game for ps4 without having played the original as I was too young when it came out. The ending killed me emotionally and I cried too because it’s so tragic. I’ve been getting all the trophies and aiming for the platinum and it honestly gets me more than it did the first time. There are only now 2 games that have made me full on cry which are sotc and last guardian. This game is a masterpiece and a true classic, now I understand why everyone says that and to think a game could never make me emotional lol I take that all back now haha. Keep up the good content. You’ve gained a new sub 😀

    Truely a fantastic game. I remember playing it on the PS2 back in the days but I've never completed it.
    Watching you playing it really made me wanna play it again. Many of the colossi are really awesome and some were very challenging to beat. You probably agree there.
    One thing's for sure it always felt wrong to kill them all. Maybe some "internal rage" made it a bit easier but it felt wrong nonetheless. :)
    I never expected an ending like that. The best thing after all in my opinion was that Agro survived, badly injured maybe but she survived. It made me feel way better in the end.
    thank you! see you next time.

    I discovered this videos maybe a year ago, but I must say I can't help coming back to it because it was so moving, true emotions captured on film.
    I may have raged a couple of times because you didn't got the habits of a gamer in previous episodes (searching for the vitals without the sword, seeing a path to climb on a colossi but not getting it, etc.), but that last episode killed me (in a good way).
    Thank you.

    Every time I play the game now, after having completed it originally in 2005, then 2011 and now in 2018, I roam the map and see parts of the land that may have included deleted Colossi. Just this feeling alone is both haunting and mysterious, in a good way. The fact that there are old screenshots/videos of the deleted Colossi endorse these feelings and become somewhat true. One of my all time favourite games ever made. And it's unbelievable that this was initially a PS2 game, and better than a lot of PS3/PS4 games out there today! With the new remake/remaster whatever you wish to call it, the game has aged very well.

    There are fan theories galore about the connection between this game and Ico, the first game in the series. Shadow of the Colossus is a prequel to Ico, or at least precedes it in the timeline. And in Ico, you play as a young boy with horns. That's not to say the boy is Wander, but surely he is connected in some way.

    • @8bitdee
      @8bitdee 6 лет назад

      There are no plot connections between the games, only THEMATIC connections. The creator has said so. The same way that same name locations, same character names, chocobos, etc. are found throughout all Final Fantasy games. They're all completely different games in different universes, but they all maintain certain themes that connect them; it's what makes them a Final Fantasy game.
      It's the same with Ico, Shadow, and Last Guardian. They're just connected by the same themes that makes each one a Team Ico game, but that's it.

    • @deathbyslipknot
      @deathbyslipknot 6 лет назад +7

      Hey faffywaffle, how about you stop spreading false information? The two games do take place in the same universe, as confirmed by the director Fumito Ueda.
      *"Wired News:* Is there any connection between the worlds of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus?
      *Fumito Ueda:* There's no specific connection as far as a timeline. But, both games exist in the same world.
      *WN:* But you've said the baby we see at the end of Colossus is the first "baby born with horns" referred to in the backstory of Ico.
      *FU:* Yes. I wanted to give some idea to the player, after you complete the game, that there was a connection to Ico. That's why I put in the baby with the horns. If somebody goes all the way through the game, I wanted them to be rewarded."
      Source: web.archive.org/web/20060629071507/www.wired.com/news/technology/0,70286-0.html
      And if that's not enough "Yes, users have thought that Shadow of the Colossus is a prequel to ICO, and that’s my idea as well." - Fumito Ueda
      Source: web.archive.org/web/20060903065641/www.gameinformer.com/News/Story/200602/N06.0216.1853.30213.htm
      Both games also use the exact same fictional language. Everything points to SotC being a prequel, with ICO taking place at least a couple hundred years later.

    • @ianluzdub
      @ianluzdub 6 лет назад +3

      But Ueda also said that all his games are part of the same universe. It means they share a timeline... maybe thousands of years from one another , but there are more than thematic connections..
      The rings in the desert of the 13th colossus ( Phalanx ) are exactly the same rings in Ico's Castle. There are TLG and Ico's easter eggs in the ps4 version of SotC...

    • @ianluzdub
      @ianluzdub 6 лет назад +4

      actually , Ueda has part in the remake... he sent Bluepoint some notes and suggestions of things he wanted to do in the original version , but didn't...
      I honestly believe that the Sword Of Dormin was his idea... maybe the golden relics weren't , but i believe the sword was..
      and i think that this ''goat mistery'' is VERY Ueda's style...
      let's wait and see.

    Subscribed to this channel immediately after watching 36:13 and 1:11:44. Your reaction to Agro was so honest and make this channel to be one of my favorite gameplay channels.
    When I played the "Agro Jump" part, I realized that Agro can't make it. But before she fall into the water, I feel that she try her best to "throw" Wander to a safe place. Agro is a good horse.
    Dormin finally keep his words and bring back Mono. Maybe he is an evil, but he is not completely bad. Many bad guys will never keep their promises after they used someone, but Dormin did.
    And finally, the last colossus Malus is very "handsome"!

    did you ever get around to Ico? It's so good! Wander is reborn but starts the lineage of the cursed bloodline which has remnants of the fall. In Ico boys with a cursed fate and born with horns are a sacrafice to an evil queen. Ico is a descendant of Wander born with horns, so SOTC is a prequel of sorts. (None of this is spoilers, it's just the basic set-up on the box). Also, interesting facts about SOTC are that it's heavily influenced by Christian and Alchemical stories. Dormin is Nimrod backwards. Nimrod was a King of Babylon, who was considered evil and had to do with the building of the Tower of Babel. The central temple in SOTC is to resemble the Tower of Babel and like Dormin, Nimrods body was said to be divided and cast to far ends of the land and sealed with protective spells. Knowing the story of The Tower of Babel helps to describe much of the allegory behind this tale which is as old as time and repeated in myth and history throughout many civilizations. This is about birth, death and reset. Peace
