  • An overview on how to set up a Wi-Fi zone in your Ford vehicle equipped with MyFord Touch. When using your 4G smartphone and/or a USB air card, you can follow these instructions to set up a Wi-Fi zone inside your Ford which can handle four additional laptops, iPod touch devices or tablets. Especially good for parents who allow their teenagers to access Facebook or the internet on monitored Wi-Fi zones. See your MyFord Touch section in your Owner's Manual for additional details or contact your local Ford dealership for assistance.

    My router came with a 20 value passphrase. the MyFord Touch is only allowing a 10 value security key. How can I change from security key to passphrase?

    Well,yes some Ford vehicles will have additional ports - these are intended for plugging audio, such as a mp3 player, to be accessed through the Aux setting. It dies not allow importing video or your phone screen.

    Can you advise which 4G internet sticks are actually compatible with the Ford system? I cannot find a list of compatible devices anywhere. In my internet research, I found several cases of sticks that did not work. In most cases, the user received the message "Sync cannot recognize the inserted usb device." I would like to purchase a stick with service from one of the providers (ATT, Verizon, etc.). I am driving a 2013 Explorer Limited, while my wife drives a 2014 Edge Limited. Thanks.

    Excellent tutorial.... except: The biggest issue right now is there is no list as to which USB devices are actually compatible with the MyFord Touch system. Of all the available devices on the market, I have only heard of a few that are actually compatible. I discovered this AFTER spending well over $100 on a device.

    I'm sorry you have to call Sync a scam... it actually predates the iPhone... it's a complex system that has to work with dozens of different devices. if you want to call a scam, why not pick on Chevy... you have to get a monthly contract to have cellphone access in their vehicles just to access wi-fi... Ford wasn't trying to get to the internet, they were looking to offer a way to share the main cellphone's tether with wi-fi devices that might be in the car... so drive safe.

    Ben's comments was on USB devices... I primarily use stored mP4a and mP3 music stored on. Clean USB flash drive. Most independent USB devices have their "agendas" (such as an .exe file or some sort of advertising). Those functions (albeit nice for some) really isn't the focus of the Sync system.

      Hey Vincent Great tutorial! This is the first helpful thing I've found. I've noticed when I connect my device via Bluetooth and go to turn on PAN that it is grayed out and I cannot select it.
      Was also wondering if you know if there is a way to get an audio file index through bluetooth stereo as you can do in the USB media player.
      Thanks for all your help

      Also was wondering! My 2013 flex came with everything but the GPS is there a way to get a GPS app on my ford touch without purchasing a new console system?

    • @HFord57
      @HFord57  10 лет назад

      Aaron Bowman The Sync system (when using the Media Source as Bluetooth) does not have enough bandwidth to give the user the feedback of song title, artist name and so on. When you select USB as the Media Source and have that information accessed by plugging your phone into the vehicle' USB port, or if you had the appropriate digital audio files saved on an USB flash drive (plugged into the vehicle's USB port, then you could get the audio files indexed and voice-accessible.

    • @HFord57
      @HFord57  10 лет назад

      Aaron Bowman Sorry, there isn't a pretty way to "Upgrade" to SD-card based mapsets for the navigation. You can subscribe to Sync Services (see support.ford.com for more details) and get voice-activated turn-by-turn navigation. Of course, many smartphones have access to any number of Apps that have GPS navigation, but Sync was not designed to allow the random "playback" through the vehicle sound system. Nor would the Sync System display the smartphone-driven map view onto the MyFord Touch screen. There's too much proprietary phone protocol blocking that access.

    • @HFord57
      @HFord57  7 лет назад

      I'm not sure I understand the question... if you have a MyFord Touch system (or a MyFord), you will have a USB port in your console. You won't need a USB thumb drive to create the Wi-Fi. You will need to have a bluetooth phone.

  • @mct133
    @mct133 10 лет назад +3

    Why would I set up my phone as a hotspot so I could share the connection through the vehicle? Why wouldn't I just use the phone hotspot? I don't understand the benefit.

    • @HFord57
      @HFord57  10 лет назад +2

      Good question... I would saw that some parents may want to "extend" their 4G phone hotspot by setting up Wi-Fi in the vehicle on long trips so passengers could use pads, laptops or iPod Touches to access the internet. And yes, you could also use your phone...

    • @mct133
      @mct133 10 лет назад

      Vincent Hennigan It's still redundant. The phone is a hotspot, no need for the vehicle to turn my hotspot into a hotspot. I can see the value of the USB Internet stick sharing, though. Although I find it more useful to take the SIM card from a USB Internet stick and put it in an old phone and use it as a hotspot. Ideally you could link the vehicle to your hotspot and then load apps like GPS or Songza or an email client.

    • @HFord57
      @HFord57  10 лет назад +4

      As I was saying, you're right! Occasionally I'll run into a driver that needs to create a hot-spot in a vehicle for someone to use a Wi-Fi for internet access for a laptop or pad. They may need to be able to take/make calls while driving a distance while someone else needs to check e-mails, etc. I'd say that's a pretty rare occurrence.

    • @TrashPandamonium

    • @HFord57

      It's free to open an account and register your vehicle at support.ford.com The site will let you know what software version you should have and give you instructions on how to download to a USB flash drive. That drive can be downloaded into your vehicle (they give instructions). However, you would have to access the internet via desktop or laptop to get to that site.

    • @jbjb4253
      @jbjb4253 8 лет назад

      +Vincent Hennigan I saw that on a Ford RUclips video also. I was hoping to not have to keep the vehicle running for over an hour. I just bought a 2013 used/certified Edge so hopefully it will be up to date. How much do the updates actually change the system and it possible to go from sync2 to sync3. also how can you find d out if the navigation is up to date?

    • @HFord57
      @HFord57  8 лет назад

      The updates substantially change the operating system (and the overall graphics and usability). Yes, a download usually takes about a half-hour. And, with the update to 3.7.1 I believe you would have to go up to the A-4 Nav card. The cost of a Nav card if not a warranted item. They can be pricey at full retail (more than $150.00) but you can usually find them on E-Bay for less. Your support.ford.com website should show the Nav card you should be using with the appropriate Sync upgrade.
