Donner Circle Looper - how good could a $90 import looper pedal actually be?

Donner sent me this looper and I'm honestly shocked, IT'S PRETTY DAMN GOOD!
The features are there, the sounds are good and most importantly, it's affordable, not affordaboard affordable but still, its the price of most one button one knob finger sized loopers.. Am I missing something here? Is this as good as I think it is?

This has become my favorite pedal because it's so much fun... that I'm playing daily now. That right there, makes it worth every dime! Thanks for the Vid... it kept me from having to read a boring manual!
It sounds like it has all the features of the Boss RC-5 but at half the price - cheaper even than the RC-1. The Boss has a few advantages - 99 storage banks vs 40 with this, and 13 hrs total storage vs 160mins, but overall it seems very comparable.
At first I was annoyed you didn't know how the pedal worked before making the video, but slowly realized that's actually a good way to do it...we get to learn as you learn it... pretty brilliant!
The look in your eyes when you selected metal at 4:53. I am getting this looper tomorrow. Thanks for taking the time to review this looper.
I'm really liking this thing. Like you pointed out, there's a lot there for $90! I really like the BPM counter and the visual loop so you see how long your loop is. The drums are way better than the rhythm in my Boss RC3 and I just have to guess with tap tempo. The more I see of this Circle Looper, the more I'm thinking of getting it.
Are you still living it? I bought my son one for Christmas.... really thinking about buying myself after revisiting this vid.
Take note....it does auto save. And you can easily change tempo of all the drum presets via tap or direct bpm entry...which is handy for synching tempo with other rhythm devices.
Both rotating knobs are 3 way press knob to change bpm, style, volume (drum side) / memory, volume, fade out time (looper side)...its a great value.
Got mine new for $80...use it every day.
Question about the Donner Circle- If I'm recording/dubbing in say Memory slot 1 and it's playing back, am I able to then record to memory slot 2 while 1 is playing?
@@ArceezRCno.
@@ArceezRCyou Need another looper fot that.
Nice job Ryan - great demo and loved the surf sounds!
Bought one. Now I can play guitar after everyone else perishes in the apocalypse, until my glasses break that is.
YES!!! Circle Looper's beats per minute sync "close enough" so we can easily hit the looper button and the loop "quantizes" or stops on the bar, or close enough it does NOT hiccup and get further off with each loop cycle (on some Beat Buddy beats ONLY, because Beat Buddy beats get recorded with human drummers, so they too are not as accurate as digital. Who cares? Record the Beat Buddy into the loop! TAKE NOTES OF CIRCLE LOOPER DRUM AND TEMPO for your loops, in case you need to recreate, or move slots. Seems circle looper's software handles the metadat about its beats and tempo, so write things down to edit .WAV loops in Audacity for loundess, EQ, etc. and import new WAV files into the clooper. Circke Looper uses 24 bit, and Boss RC-3 uses 16 bit, so pay attention when you edit/export/save/create the file in Audacity, for example. I love my Circle Looper! I did cover the looper button with a cap to avoid mistakenly hitting it during a step to Stop, which avoids going into Record mode and polluting your backup loop.
nice looper. and I like the idea of a looper shoot-out, being someone who was considering a looper for the first time. also that surf jam in there and that ending are both on fire.
Great video sir! I’ve just ordered one of these based purely on the amount you enjoyed this pedal. Excellent stuff!
Dude that was a great review and awesome playing, you made up my mind on this pedal! great job
Just sold me one . Can't wait for it to get here. I can see it being a great addition for my small setup to keep me playing while I'm away on business and a great addition for my main board back home
I hope you use this in all your future videos when you demo stuff now! Playing along to something is always a million times more fun!
I really like and appreciate the manner in which you review this product. As an excitable and enthusiastic but slightly rubbish guitar player, I’ve been looking at this type of product for some time, but was getting the impression that this was far too technical a gadget for me.
But your review was very very good - and my confidence grew. So now I’m thinking, for about £90 it’s probably worth a punt.

In english thank you very much
that jazzmaster is just too beautiful damn
Loopers are fun and great for live playing but my Zoom R24 is the best for looping ideas. It has 24 tracks and they all can be looped, you can program your own drums on the included drum machine or use the presets, you can apply effects to your loops and then you can import it all into your daw and it is all in time and ready to produce. My frustration with loopers is that I get these cool loops and then I can't manipulate the individual parts.
Quite cool, but the R24 is ~$500, even the R8 is ~$300, the Circle Looper is ~$100, personal preference I guess
@@choppytde6030 The R24 is a songwriter's best friend, I own 3, but yes they are pricey.
For the price of the R24 you could easily get a used ipad, a fitting audio interface, all the looper and drum apps you could dream of, AUM, Cubasis (DAW) and maybe find a midi foot switch if you really dig the pedal experience
Your saying that your 500 dollar looper is better that the 100 dollar looper? Who would have thought?!?
@@wentle1985 Ok, unfair comparison but if you want to develop loops into songs quickly and easily it´s a good investment.
That tune you were playing with the dance beat was dope!
Bought mine a week ago. Very satisfied, for me I never used that fade out it's pointless, and the screen is quite small compared to the pedal. Also I'd like to have an overall output control along with the level and volume control for each looper and drum machine cause even at 1 some drums are still too loud for my environment and the looper section.
Rowin beat loop
Pretty sure I saw in another vid that you can change the volume of the drum beat.
0:50 the face of a man having a good time
Great demo, seems like a really good value pedal. You know it's good when you start feeling yourself and get super creative like that!
Ordered one of these today based off of your review and the amount of fun you had. £78 delivered . Can’t argue with that !
Ive had mine sitting in a draw. Watching this im getting it out to try
Thanks for tje inspiration guy
Hey brother, how did you get that awesome bass sound on your guitar? A separate pedal?
Great demo Ryan. This was fun!
Once again showing me stuff I NEED TO HAVE!!! I ordered one of these just now. Can't wait to get it. ( I also bought a Cuvave Fuzz, when you reviewed that.
No rude and nasty comments today. That seems to be a great looper for the price! You having fun with it just made me want it even more. Great Job, Ryan!
some of the best demos on youtube we see all the options keep up the great work and playing
Great review, liked how much fun you were having. I never really liked the name "drum buddy', so couldn't even consider that one. This one, yes!
That's pretty cool. I was searching for a drum pedal. But this is way better. I've already got the Donner Dark Mouse and Donner Yellow Fall and love those. So I think I'm gonna order this one too. Or do you have something else to recommend? Thank you for making the videos. I love them.
Love that Jazz Master. Thanks so much for making this video, I'm buying one of these things right now! I can see how something like this could really help expand your playing and practice time.
Great unbox/review.
Just bought a spark and think this will be the perfect addition.
Dude, with the Jazzmaster you’re like a surf king!!
I am interested in this pedal and I have never heard you jam like that. You should do that more often 👏
amazing review Ryan. This thing is a game changer
Great video Ryan. Love your content.
I think this is one of the best looper pedals I've seen, and I don't mean "best for the price ". It truly sounds great compared to some more advanced and pricey units I've experienced. Anyway thanks for the great video and keep on keeping on.
Cheers from Alberta, Canada. David.
I bought an entire pedal board (7) for 80 bones. This was included. Learning it now! Nice vid
Tell me more, tell me more 🎶
Today is 4/8/22 and I just got this for $87. It's still possible. Gonna take couple days to get here and I'll test it then. I still have my 1st looper. It's a Boss RC-1 and still works like it's supposed to. But this looks like a lot of fun. Unlike the Boss which doesn't save anything.
What kind of adapter power supply do you have?
@@MsAppassionata A Boss 9v 2000mV center negative adapter. It fits a 3 out daisy chain which obviously I don't use on this. But in my opinion is cool is I use this on 1 of my practice amps set up with bass and put together drums and bass track. And another amp with guitar to get sharper on rhythms and lead. Great way to practice alone. And fun. With all these drum beats can really go out there where my band mates don't wanna go
@@sparkyguitar0058 Thank you.
Ryan your face was a picture when you clicked onto the Metal drum beats, nearly as bad as mine!! Really good review and ideal for musicians who want and need a looper with beats, makes a great practice tool.
So does it all run to your guitar amp? Also where in the chain do you put this so that effects don't mess with the drums?
I personally like effects on drum loops i have 2 loopers putting them on both ends of my chain if i want something effected or not. Being at the very beginning will effect everything and the very end you will retain clean drums
I bought the cheaper donner looper three weeks ago. You just sold me on this upgrade, amazing value.
Same, i got the triple looper for just 30 bucks, but being able to sync loop length to a certain bpm is definitely worth the extra 60 bucks
Great demo, review and playing … sounds great.
Okay so let me see if I got this straight cuz I've never used one of these before, but I have ordered one and it's one its way. A couple questions if I may...
- Can you only record like, guitar tracks on this thing and that's your loop? Or can you plug it into your PC and upload other stuff for it to loop, like say... a specific drum or guitar track?
- I'm guessing from what I've seen that the thing can play more than one loop at a time...?
Real men don't read instructions. We just struggle for 3 months trying to work the bloody thing out!

Great Review! Thank you for showing us the way "MOST" of just tear open the box and plug it in and start clicking. I have one and I love it! WHAT IS THAT GOLD S TYPE HANGING OVER YOUR RIGHT SHOUDER?????????? I believe I need that color gold in my life!!!!!
I really enjoyed your review on this pedal. I'm waiting for mine to arrive now. They had it marked down for Amazon Day.
I still use mine often. its pretty great imo.
So, I may or may not buy one of these loopers... but this guy who did a demo? Big fan :)
Lmao, hearing Ryan randomly bust out some Snoop Dogg cracked me up :D
I got mine but for some reason guitar is very muted when run through the pedal…have to turn drum level down to like 4 with volume pot all the way up on the guitar…what am I doing wrong?
Using 9v 300mA
two questions I have:
1) can it run off a 9V battery or does it have to be plugged in?
2) say you record a clean backing track, then turn on your overdrive to play lead over, will the looped recording also become overdriven, or will it stay clean?
i doesn't not have an internal 9v battery clip. if you run your overdrive before the looper the looped recording will stay clean.
They actually have a similar version as a mini pedal without some of the features. Sells for about $65. Very happy with it.
What are those some features?
No drums or presets. Just a basic looper
I have one of this mini. 3 tracks. Really good. Kicked the Ditto mini of TC Electronics in the butt.
BASS player here, Donner Triple looper is my first and only looper, 60 CAD for a 30 minutes looper with a nice indicative screen, for the price, you cannot loose!!!!!
@@_Edson__ mine plays back what I recorded a bit slower does yours?
Very good review! Enjoyed it a lot. I am working on something with Donner Pedal for upcoming videos...good stuff now I know I want this...SUBBED by the way
You can slow or speed the drums up or down to suit your needs. It's really cool 😎
Thanks! Just ordered one🎉
how do you shut it off? you have to turn off the power to it? very good video, I just got one for Christmas and I learned quite a bit here. butttt!!! How does it shut off?😃
Entertaining video. What model Jazzmaster? Sounds great.
Thanks man for your review, very helpful! What about the sound quality of the looper? Is it pro for recordings for example if I output one line to the sound interface?
Does it have any latency? Thanks bro
I’m on a looper hunt This seems like a very cool looper to own Still hunting. But I kinda like this. Thank you for the demo bro
I dont understand why most of the looper pedals position the indicator lights right near the switches so they cant be seen when your foot is switching or hovering over top of the switch. I have the DiTTO2 (and lights are also hidden when stepping on the pedal). It's really been nothing but problems, and now it's not canceling, erasing, or starting on demand. So, perhaps this $90 Donner may be worth a try. The Boss 10R is (currently) about $360 and the RC500 about $400, but when buying a looper, consider ease of use and the Boss RC's look like they can get pretty complicated. I'm also going to look at the JTC NUX Pro at $170.
Great video, and Thank You.
I still use this looper despite having other options. Some people have reported them not lasting long but I haven’t experienced any failures yet. I think the presets really do it for me because I treat it like a scratchpad .
Great demo Ryan. Quick question, can you adjust the drum tempo? I see there's a tap feature on the bottom left foot switch; is it for that?
yes you can, you push in the drum knob to get the the time control.
@@60CycleHumcast Thanks! Just ordered one.
The only way I can think of to improve this would be the ability to route the drums and instrument to separate channels. Is Donner designing pedals now, or just getting first dibs on something OEM?
Was wondering the same thing 🤔
being able to slip drums to a separate amp/pa would be brilliant.
I have one and it’s an incredible value proposition. What it could really do with is the multiply function that the Gibson Echoplex, Boomerang iii and Ditto+ have. I’ll be keeping an eye out to see what Donner do next: this pedal and the smaller one (Triple looper?) are a breakthrough in cheap pedals.
@@ValveSpecial what's the multiply function?
I know this question is a year ago. I don't know who did it first but this is the exact Loop Pedal of a China based pedal company called "Flamma". It is the Flamma FS21. Same exact features and controls but on a slightly different enclosure.
4:53 moms looking through her teens search history be like
Love it! That fuzz at the end is nasty 🤘
Does this have an internal flux capacitor? If so, I will being buying it.
This is my first pedal. I have been playing acoustic for about 2 years.
Is there any way to load up country, bluegrass/ Irish drum beats ?
Does the drum beat save with your loop in the memory slot?
yep
@@60CycleHumcast thank you. An Amazon reviewer said it would not save the drumbeat with the loop. Good to hear it does.
Awesome review! Thanks!
That's quite the collection behind you. What is that one possible seafoam color with like 6 knobs on it?
I just got one of these yesterday - having a blast with it - it didn't come with a 9v AC adapter, which I had to go out and purchase.
I freaking love this looper it's exactly what I've been looking for. I have the boss rc1 and it's way too limiting, I'm selling it and buying this
Can this be used solely for the drums in conjunction with my BOSS rc 30 loop station ?
your actually having fun playing with it !!!
Okay, I got mine and figured out real quick that I can upload MP3 tracks to it from my PC. Great. I've done that and it works, although I need to figure out how to lower the level of the thing so it doesn't distort.
Anyway, All I need to know now is... how can I rename the files when they are on the looper? Even though the MP3 files have a name when I upload them, all the thing says is MEM.1, MEM.2 MEM.3, etc. Is there a way for the looper to display the actual track name?
Looks like an affordable option for the feature set. Where in the pedal chain would this be best? My amp does not have a loop chain (that might be a future upgrade) ; I haven't used a looper before, but I have a o/d and a distortion pedal. Would this fit best after the distortion pedal ? I've read articles that seem to conflict; either at the start of the signal path and at the end. My thought was at the end. What would be your suggestion ?
I always put a looper at the end of my pedalboard
6:52 Ryan getting his Snoop Dre thing on 😂 I like it 😜
When he tested the Fade out... When it worked he laughed.... and that laugh was on time. Lol
Would love to see the review when you get your head around the looper great review thanks just bought one of these
Been using mine for a week or so. I had their other deluxe one and it would freeze every once in a while but so far this one has been solid. Has non standard time signs too.
I have just got one and running it with a line 6 spider IV 75 amp and can work out how to change my effects without it interfering with the drums too. How have you managed this?
A little late to reply to you friend… but unfortunately when you’re plugged into the looper your giving your guitars direct path into the looper. So if you change amp settings. The looper will change too. The only good way to eliminate this is if your amp has an fx loop.
Dang I need one of those. My Ditto is limited and getting old. Donner has got some cool pedals and guitars for the $.
The amazon link for this pedal says "Currently unavailable.
It's available now
LOL!!!!! Ryan in the beginning: “This seems really involved, guys! Seems like there’s a lot going on! Am I going to have to read the manual? Am I going to be smart enough for this thing?” And then by the end: “Now that I have it figured out, I’m excited!” It’s that moment when you realize: Yes, it is a little bit more complicated, but in the end, you find it is perfectly logical, and that the added complexity is actually worth it!
I'm interested in buying one of these for improv work in live performance -- do you think this will be good in a live setting? x
Dude your face at 4:53 had me cracking up
Anyone has been able to use the software? I connect it via usb but nothing happens, it just says no device detected.
Thanks for the video! Question; can you speed up or slow down BPM OF the loops?
You officially mastered jazz
U mean he played the wrong note twice?
Anyone know if the import and export function allows for import of drum tracks or is that only import in relation to the looper side of things I.e., your own guitar parts?
Great video - thanks for sharing!
Does it quantize such that if your footwork is off by a few milliseconds, it will round to the nearest bar?
You can control the bpm as well .... so skill level is accommodated.
the look on your face when the drums and loop didn't sync. Priceless. I think that as a drum accompaniment this is pretty great for the price.
Your face when the metal drum loop played :D :D
What's on the floor board? Stock vibrato system on that JM? Thank you.
His face when that Metal loop came on! 🤘🏼😂
Cool ending.what pedal please?
Is this still a recommended budget stereo looper?
So with the stereo in and out, will it let you run a bass in to the looper and out to a separate bass amp? Or keys to it's own amp, or a different guitar into a different rig?
It has separate left and right stereo inputs and outputs. So yes, you could do what you are saying, using the left and right channels as two mono tracks.
Seriously considering it. Will use your link when ready
Out of stock!
Can you help before i buy PLEASE "4 minutes of recording time per track" means 2 mono tracks (stereo) of 4 minutes not every memory bank has it's own 4 minutes I'm right ?
Looks like my RC5 is getting returned for one of these. Thought I'd really invest in something for my first proper looper.
Buttons are too fiddly and it's too over-engineered for my liking, this is way more like it for my tastes
Hi, what did u dislike about the rc5?
I am trying to find the right one for myself.
