  • To my knowledge this is the only full interview that Tim Curry gave about his part in the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Recorded during the week that the film was released in 1975, he talks about his roll in the film and whether or not he would play the part again! The Interviewer is Mark Caldwell and the Director is Colin Grimshaw. The interview was shot in black and white (the film is in colour)! Clips were provided by Fox-Rank. Fox has (June 2012) reviewed and released any copyright claim on the film footage appearing in this video.
This interview was made by students, not professionals in the TV industry. See my main page (under MORE tab) for email contact details - / colingrimshaw

About six years after this interview took place I saw him as Mozart in the play Amadeus on Broadway. He was absolutely amazing, much better than the guy in the movie, and I was brought to tears during his death scene. There were was one moment during the show when he kind of subtly channeled Frank-n-furter in a way that somehow worked seamlessly with his portrayal of Mozart. It was hilarious and thrilling. Ian McKellan played Salieri and Jane Seymour was Constanze. The whole thing was incredible and the movie was rubbish by comparison. Forty years later and I remember the whole thing like it was yesterday.
Sadly Tim Curry was right to fear that Rocky Horror would be a hard role to follow. He was such an amazing talent and should have had a much bigger career. He also made a couple of albums as a singer and they’re quite good.

Don't get me wrong - he did a great job in the film. He is still the best Frank 'n' Furter to date. But for whatever reason, he chooses to give the impression in this interview, that he possesses no colour in real life. I first watched rocky horror when I was 14. this year I made my friends sit down and watch it and then took them all to a (mostly empty) midnight viewing, probably watched it five times in the space of a month. It's impact keeps on going and now as the queer experience gets so heavily bowdlerized, instead of losing its impact in more progressive times it remains a new and slightly shocking (most always in a good way) experience for anyone who watches it. Not to wax poetic in the youtube comments but I think that's amazing and a guy has to admire Tim Curry for having the balls to do this in 1975.

Unfortunately getting a copy is just about impossible, I don't understand why and I can't afford to pay every time I get nostalgic, I would go broke. One of my favorite things was going to watch it in a midnight showing with my fellow workers, all half my age. I broke all the rules: No squirt gun, water, graffity, etc. By then I was middle age but I didn't care. I knew all the words and the dance steps, great time. And I had a crush on Tim Curry, the sweet transvestite. Great memories. And another not as strong with, of all people, Meat Loaf. One sexy obese guy!

Amazing what this movie did for the Boomer's kids. Basically brought the radically sexy rhinestone mindset to the front, helped to make the eighties and nineties truly great. Today nobody suspects that I was an original live cast member from my fishnets to my blue hair (at that time, we used pen ink to color hair, no "unnatural" dyes available back then) had a jar with over 500 ticket stubs. Now I am vanilla on the outside, but still strut my rhinestone platforms and corset in my mind's eye, helps me to relate to almost anyone.🎶 I feel released...🎶
