    Dopamine Enigma Unveiled seriously blew my mind. Learning about dopamine optimization and detox completely changed how I approach productivity and focus. Has anyone else here tried applying these techniques? The section on unlocking peak mental performance was a game-changer for me!

      Tyler Carlson brother. I have been fighting this battle going on 7 years. I realize everything we have been taught(I've been taught). was not correct. This video and a Tedtalk by the name Everything You Know About Addiction is wrong. I believe using both these systems together is the correct tool. Olympic athletes have 5,000 thoughts a day and "normal" whatever that is has 70,000. that's showing us clearly when observing your thought which creates a temporary void and supposedly gets lengther as real mindfillness is practiced, has a profound affect on our physical, mental, and emotional systems. HAS TO BE, TALENT ALONE DOESN'T MAKE THEM GREAT. Then you have connection, we have huge rise of anxiety, depression, and mental illness more than ever. What else do we have? No authentic connections anymore(this is what holds true to me). You are strong brother and you will win!

    Paraphrasing Gurdijef "Inner demons are like dogs chasing you, the more you want to escape them, the closer they get to you, but once you stop, just stop and sit down with no distraction whatsoever, they loose the fire you've been feeding them by constantly running away. Then you just watch them go one by one, disappearing into the void". Another great video Leo.

      Sometimes people have a dream about being chased by a shadow figure. Sometimes they take a courage, stop a ask the shadow why it chases them. And the shadow says: "because you are running" ... which is th essence of the problem. We create the very issues we are escaping from, sitting still may reveal that.

    The think the greatest addiction people have is the addiction to thinking. Thats why observing the thought patterns, cravings and "inner demons" is the key to neutralizing the effects. When I began meditating I was able to really tone down my mind and allow more space in between my thoughts. This promoted a more balanced state of being and a peaceful state of being. What Leo suggests is a great tool as well.

    Been addicted to hard drugs the last 6 years - this video really made me aware I’ve been addicted to external stimulation my whole entire 24 years of life due to the environment I grew up in. I always have tried to fill the void. Whether it’s food, tv, computer, etc. I’ve always felt like I needed to feel “more”. I can honestly say this video made me have an epiphany. I know to tackle this head on, the ROOT cause is needed to be brought into light. I’ve made some very stupid choices and put myself in many sketchy situations because of my addiction to wanting to be stimulated by any & everything I find that I enjoy. I thought of myself as a “mother who could do both and maintain both lifestyles” ITS IMPOSSIBLE. The double life will eventually collide and when it does finally clash.. it clashes hard. And without warning. I know now that I cannot be a “good mother” while being on these stupid drugs that literally do nothing but give me energy to go out and do all these compulsive behaviors. I recently tried the needle for the first time ever a couple weeks ago. And felt nothing but guilt. I cried when ever I looked at my innocent sweet 4 year old son when I got home that night. I never wanna feel that feeling again. Today is my last time dancing with the Devil. I’ve been locked in a prison and now I realize I had the key the whole time. METHAMPHETAMINE - I’m not letting you take me, I’m not letting you take my sons childhood experiences away, I don’t need you. I never did. I will be able to overcome this challenging time in my life. I can fight my cravings. I can do it. Thank you so much for posting this video. I’m already about to go outside and bust all my glass pipes. I’m done.

      Hey fellow momma bear , I hope things have gotten better for you. I hope you spend every moment you can with your son. I hope you stay far from those needles. My heart goes out to you truly, I can relate to so much of what you have gone through and when it comes crashing down it sucks it really fucking sucks. I have a daughter who is 5 and did the whole double life thing and ruined my family, my future and my self as a whole. The guilt is overwhelming at times and I think maybe that’s why I still reach for drugs is to make that pain stop? Even though that’s how it started in the first place. It could be a never ending cycle for sure. Anyway girl I know how hard it can be dealing with all of these things and I’m sorry I know it can be lonely and shameful at times too. Unfortunately my family isn’t close or supportive so I really lean on my best friend who is and I think having that support person has got me through the tough shit. Take care XoXo .

The fear is an important part of every addiction and sustains it. You can only break that fear by facing it. Stop, sit and watch hat happens. Great inspirational moment when you succeed for the first time. Then you know you can stop !!

  • @zabelicious
    @zabelicious 7 лет назад +239

    "All addictions are emotional immaturity" Yes!! Finally someone who says it. Of course people are not going to sit still in an empty room and do nothing, it's not a natural state unless you are meditating. People crave connections.... connections with others and/or with nature. That is what can fill the void. Stillness is not the problem, lack of connections is the problem. Seems to me that early age trauma is often the driving force behind most addictions because the brain development was arrested due to an inability to cope with stressful situations. A child cannot understand why he cannot feel safe and/or is not taken care of as he should. He thinks there is something wrong with him/her. This must be unlearned, dispelled and addressed. We see this time and time again with the most hardcore case of addictions. The inability to self-soothe is very strong because one did not have a chance to learn how to do it in other ways then by self-satisfying immediate needs. It comes from a survival mode type of learning. Many good points but missing some elements.

    • @timg544
      @timg544 6 лет назад +13

    • @Vonliten
      @Vonliten 6 лет назад +17

      Indeed, I miss some important root cause elements. A lot of addicted people search distraction and are escaping from negative thinking and feelings. Whenever they are alone, sitting still, there negative thinking will arise. Learning to deal with negativity is not a 'I sit still for one time' moment. But will take a lot of inventories, practises and transforming your negative experiences into positive ones by forgiving. Making your wise and loving voice stronger and your judgemental ego less strong.

    You made me understand by saying fear of emptyness. Life had been hell since childhood abusive parents domestic violence now 28 years old i struggle with addiction drugs/tobacco/gambling. It all started when my dad died...6 months later my girl left me with my 4yo daughter and i havent seen jer since. Its been 2 years. Later my mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer and she died 4 months later. After that the suiciadal thoughts started. So i went to therapy and al l that stuff but it didnt change
    I started to numb myself by smoking weed and isolating myself. After the first attempt i started making music.now 8 months after that i still find myself struggling. And the gambling begins. Stuck with this fear of emptyness. Thank you for your video.

      You should rethink that. Becoming spiritually aware, more so than being self-actualized as in Maslow's self-actualization.
      I'm a psychologist, but what he calls " new age" is a spiritual awakening, you will find a higher purpose & get in touch with your "higher self" that resides in all of us.
      Death is NOT a void! People would be committing mass suicide if they knew what was on the Other Side.
      LIGHT, pure unconditional love, peace, bliss, & all knowledge. I have seen the Other Side & so have many others.
      I didn't remember all the knowledge, because that would remove our purpose for being on earth. It's to discover our divine selves & LEARN. When I learn it's more like remembering now. But challenges & problems are still there, to teach me the lessons I'm meant to learn.
      And I learned my purpose for being here. So I work on that daily, but I look forward to death.
      Much love❤❤

    End the stigma. I am a recovering opiod addict. During my active addiction, I was working to get high, and getting high to work. Homeowner, licensed driver, and only true parental figure to the child of my ex-girlfriend. Nobody knew about my addiction except my dealer. I hid it well, and it never stood in the way of my responsibilities.
    I was arrested as a result of an unlawful search, which resulted in me losing my job for my employer to save face, and being forever painted as a worthless junkie. I've never stolen anything or broken any laws outside obtaining drugs. Never got loans, never asked for one penny from anyone. My arrest outed my addiction to the public eye, and stigma makes them believe I'm something that I have never been. I'm the same person I was before, during and after my active addiction. I am not a monster, I am not a junkie, I am human. 32 days clean following a 10-year buprenorphine addiction. You are strong. You are not alone. You are loved. You can do this, one day at a time. One love❤️

I've now been clean 7 months. My 8th stint in Jail is what got me clean originally but spirituality is what's kept me clean. Since I connect addictions to my drug addictions I've never put much thought into any other kind of addictions I may have, but now I see I am very addicted to cigarettes, and also addicted to anything that will distract me from myself. boyfriend, RUclips, my phone) I've never given much thought to it though until now. So glad this video brought it to my attention! Cus I know from experience if I'm not dealing with my underlying issues, emotions than it will eventually lead me back to drugs. Addiction can be so difficult to overcome. It hardens the heart, making it so easy to give in over and over again. I tried to resist by myself, but I would end up falling back into the same cycle. Shame makes you weak and vulnerable, so you just give in to experience some false happiness. That said, the only thing I found that broke the chains of addiction is being close to Jesus. The flesh is weak, but God has the power to permanently break every addiction. Even if you are in disbelief, call on His name today. If nothing else has worked so far, give Jesus a chance. Whether you know it or not, Jesus loves you so much that He gave up glory in Heaven to manifest in this world to die for the sins of everyone...if He did that for us, what makes you think His perfect love couldn't break your addiction? I can attest that praying on a daily basis, having a relationship with God, and staying in His word will lessen the power and influence that addiction has over you. Fasting can help break the chains as well. If you are truly deep in addiction and cannot escape, I implore you to trust and believe that Jesus can set you free. Call out to Him. If you walk in the Spirit, you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh (Galatians 5:16).

    I did sit in a room alone without distraction-just this morning (had wisdom teeth extracted 2 days ago). I was afraid for the first few seconds, and afterwards, I realized I was okay, and that I am the same nothingness that I've always feared.
    I observed the sensation of pain in my jaw, and I smiled, because I have the gift of knowing what pain is, and feeling all of these senses. I am so grateful for pain and fear, they allow me to see a new spectrum of color.

    Everyone seems to blow videos like this out of proportion and assume nihilism and depression is the only answer. Not even close. It's really quite simple, just become aware of yourself. Aware of what motivates you and drives your personality since your personality is shaped by your addictions. No one is telling you to cut them all out. You can have whatever vice you like, as he mentioned (still play video games) as long as you've come to a point where you are also happy and content just sitting in a room quietly with no external stimulus. We are the universe fucking experiencing itself. This thought alone should be enough to enjoy what is.

Going to give it a shot as I’ve been trying to find more positive things that will replace my more harmful addictions and I already knew that wasn’t exactly the right answer. This sounds much more correct. I’ve been replacing addiction after addiction majority of my life and I’ve repeated behaviors over and over. This should be the first thing they tell you in any drug/alcohol therapy.

    Addiction is about pain it's about hurt its about medicating a wound that you got from childhood or relationship and that you're not able to cope with the pain cuz of pain is too great and so the addiction sues you it medicates you it helps you to feel better but the thing is you go through the same revolving circle of the pain and the routine and things get worse when you keep using I know because I am an addict and I know what it feels like but to let go and surrender to God no matter how painful it is is probably the best way to go and also to get support from a support group it's not about emptiness for me it's not it's about pain hurt insecurities anxieties and there's always some circumstance or issue for that reason it's not necessarily emptiness

    What we do gives us our identity, when we stop doing, we loose our identity, thats when we enter the realm of the abstract, usually we go back to what we know, unless the abstract is the door into the void, nothingness. Then if we are lucky we can reboot and recommit to a new identity by changing what we do.

    As a 20+ year meditator I have to say that Leo is the perfect translator of Eastern spiritual concepts which can sound very arcane to the Western mind. I find myself feeling "busted" and "called out" on several occasions. I recently quit marijuana after a two decades long run and what he says about getting familiar and comfortable with just sitting there in a room, making friends with emptiness, doing nothing, is truth and nothing but the truth! Looking forward to watching the rest of your videos. Very inspiring.

    WOW! What a penny dropping-moment!
    Had I learnt this when I was an adolescent could have resulted in an entirely different life. This should be taught at school as a CORE subject.
    ‘THE’ CORE SUBJECT!
    Such and incredibly simple yet profound concept. My addicted life has never looked more wonderfully surmountable. 30+ years of being held back by this but somehow knowing deep inside that this is the beautiful truth..the TRUTH..that with spiritual labour I can mature and finally grow into my true self. I’m excited.
    Thanks Leo and Actualized, you are a treasure!

    The only time I ever was able to just sit with myself was when I released the tension in my muscles through breathing exercises. I just breathed out and held my breath and tried to scan my body and focus on the feeling of excitement. This then caused my abs and then my legs and then my whole body to spasm. And then immediately afterwards all the tension went away and I felt lightweight and incredibly flexible again. I'm going to be honest, people get addicted not because they aren't trying to control their emotions, but that their emotions are just in such an overdrive that they no longer have the ability to control themselves. They become a slave to their desires, but not of their own choosing. Addicted people are traumatized people. What they need is love and a good massage, not more accusations and guilt piled upon them.

This "Realization" of my true identity has set me free!! Often people call themselves losers or no good or stupid or gay etc... list goes on but I've learned that these are false identities created by the ego!! You are who Divinity (God) says you are and you are healed and cured and whole and complete, it's just a matter or realizing who you really are!! No more false identities!!

      I think a healthy balance is normal. i agree with both systems and you can actually perform both and see what yields YOU the best feeling. I know that connecting can seem logical, but the new idea of stillness and simplicity deep inside me feels correct. Yogananda said you have to shut off all distractions to hear God. I'm sure God could make himself loud as he does through the paradox that is yelling at you that something isn't right for you. I say let your body give you guidance and you'll find it in you. ;) I hope that makes sense brother. Know with conviction you can overcome anything.

    I've also let go of an addiction to cigarettes.
    My husband is recovering from drug and alcohol addiction so it is my priority to find healthier habits.
    The silence technique clicks though because my husband was in detention centers as a child, and heavily medicated. He spent a lot of time alone in confinement and I believe that caused trauma leading to him constantly needing something to occupy his time, to distract him.

    you find that by day 3 , 4 5 plus..
    that lack of sleep the unstable moods of highs and lows .. physical discomfort that is just pure sickness it burns you out zaps your strength
    minutes are like hours and hours are like days and you know you have weeks to go before you feel normal again..
    being mindful is not enough as your body tries to recover and correct its normal biological functions that opioum has corrupted and imposed itself .
    being present is underestimated

    I was addicted to porn for nearly 15 years.
    This addiction seriously impaired my relationship with others, daily activities and perspective on women.
    And I tried everything I can to stop and get free from it but was not able. I had mild depression, fatigued everyday and was enslaved by the images/guilt.
    I blamed the internet, media and my lack of self-control and felt regretful for wasting my time, energy and effort.
    However, when I got on my knees in prayer and repented earnestly to Jesus Christ and I no longer felt the strong, impulsive urge that I had before.
    Though I had brief relapses. I always sought the Lord and not once did Jesus condemned me when I repented.
    His unfailing love and amazing grace will be with you if you open up your hearts completely to him.

    Addict in recovery here. Everything he says about sitting is true and is at the heart of spiritual practices across disciplines. I don't think he's done dilligent research on 12 step groups, however. I'm a member of a 12 step program and can say emphatically that the path of our steps is not about merely conquering addiction. The lifting of the obsession to use/drink/engage is actually a side effect of practicing the steps and helping others.
    The steps are designed to regain our true selves and become the type of person he describes as "emotionally mature" and free, mentally/spiritually of external conditions. All the language, save self actualization, that he uses in the video coresponds with the language of those who practice the steps.
