Super Frame: My only thought that goes on all the time is.... When/will Disney ever put the 90's Spider-Man animated series onto DVD & Blu-Ray? They released every other Spidey animated show i think onto dvd except for the 90's complete series aswell as every 90's Marvel show besides this and The Incredible Hulk. Are they afraid of losing money? Cause i doubt they're gonna lose people from Disney+ even if they buy Marvel animated shows.

So much so that they adapted stories from the comics with iconic stories like the Venom Saga, and The Night Gwen Stacy Died this show followed what I call the original Marvel timeline which lasted from 1961 to 2007 ending with the infamous Spider-Man story One More Day Spectacular like BTAS with Batman did it's own thing taking small inspiration from the comics rather then adapting them like the 90s Marvel shows which along with the Marvel vs Capcom games during the 90s adapted the OG Marvel timeline the real one in my opinion.

One great episode I always remember is when Jonah Jameson had to go and play like a real Journalist/Detective himself. I would pay a lot to see Simmons going by the more complex stuff of Jameson, financing the creation of supervillains and Spider Slayers against Spidey for the "greater good" and even something akin to the issue where he was blackmailed by Hobgoblin and had to publish all about the Scorpion's creation and his role in it.

I still think it mostly holds up. The animation is dated (duh, it's a show nearing 30 years old), but is visually very clean and appealing with it's character designs. And the quality of the animation is still pretty high compared to other cartoons of the era. The arguably more praised X-Men series from the same time doesn't look nearly as good as this does.
The executive censorship is more obvious to the adult eye, which is a bummer. but the storytelling is strong enough that censored violence isn't always noticeable.
I love how the show embraces the soap opera tone of the comics. When you get down to it, Spider-Man is a melodramatic soap opera. And I'm not saying that to be dismissive or insulting.
There are always big emotions, big reveals - BIG DRAMA BIG ACTION BIG EVERYTHING. This show captures that aspect of the comic perfectly.
As a kid the ongoing, serialized stories of this show had me hooked. It felt properly big and epic and engaging and even all these years later I still find the ambition of the storytelling to be impressive for the time period and it can stand up to the more nuanced cartoons of today.
Spectacular is the more nuanced show, sure. But I honestly find this one more entertaining. And I can't not read the comics without hearing Barnes in my head.
He's kind of my ideal Spider-Man over all of them to be honest.

You touched on something that I mentioned in my comment
Spider-Man the animated series was literally a soap-opera for children
If you miss one episode you definitely were lost
I was so thankful that the X-Men would have the previously on with cyclops's voice to catch up on what happened
Also the Spider-Man universe was so connected that all of his supporting characters were pivotal to the main storyline
      I name-dropped a few in my comment
But I just remember one more is rocket racer
I recall as a black kid seeing representation like that was such a thrill
Specifically because I had never even heard of that character before until watching the TV show
Or when they had a three-story saga with the secret warriors, who fought with Captain America and Red skull
Or the even better secret wars with the beyonder and Madame web
Talk about a Saturday morning where you were glued to the TV and could not wait until next week to find out what happens 😅😅❤

Honestly, after MJ “died” that’s where the story should’ve gotten. Slowly but surely they get together and by the time MJ “returns” it doesn’t matter anymore, Peter and Felicia have gone thru too much to end their relationship. It would make a great lesson: it’s our experiences that bond us, not always our upbringing.

One of the main things that I absolutely loved about this series is how everything was connected very naturally. Of course when most of the superheroes in marvel take place in New York City it is easy to do team-ups
However the way the story flow Spider-Man and Peter Parker were both able to team up with Captain America, the X-Men, Daredevil and even the fantastic four
His supporting characters also helped the storyline flow naturally
Such as the storyline with Felicia Hardy and Michael morbius
How that story flowed into him becoming a vampire
That story also float and sue her becoming the black cat
That also flowed into them teaming up with blade on multiple occasions
There were stories that included not only Mary Jane and Aunt May
But the crossover episodes with the X-Men and even introducing major comic book story lines like secret wars
Or introducing characters from the 1960s
Specifically speaking about the 7 secret warriors story arc that got some include Spider-Man and Peter Parker's friend and co-worker Robbie from the newspaper
This was just a great show all

I actually liked this more than spectacular Spider-Man I still love spectacular Spider-Man in fact I got the DVD set and I’m still pissed that it got it cancelled (thanks Sony and or Disney) but I grew up with this show and I loved watching it as a kid and I love watching it as an adult on Disney plus hell a lot of Spider-Man stories have been taken from this show here are some examples
The Otto Octavius and Peter Parker student and teacher relationship in “dr Octopus armed and dangerous” was used in Spider-Man 2 and in Spider-Man ps4
The 2 part finale paved the way for stuff like the shattered dimensions video game, the spiderverse comics, the critically acclaimed into the spiderverse and no way home (unless they’re only bringing the villains back)
The alien costume was used in spectacular Spider-Man, the venom movie and a tiny bit in Spider-Man 3 (they didn’t go to space and the symbiote was obviously shoved in because avi arad said so)
The Norman Osborn and green goblin split personality thing seen in enter the green goblin, goblin war and turning point was used in the first Sam raimi movie
And as minor as it was Peter losing his powers in Spider-Man 2 was seen in the insidious six episode
Also the Spider-Man constantly talking every single second I thought was worse in the 2017 cartoon I seriously was yelling “shut up” at the tv screen because Peter going on about science sh🐬t in the first episode or he’s going on about how he doesn’t want the symbiote to hurt aunt may like dude we get it keep it to yourself it never bothered me here but in the 2017 cartoon it’s kind of annoying

I watched and loved this show as a kid, but it had one very unfortunate downside... I came to think of this older post-high school Spider-Man as what he should be, and it took until seeing Homecoming to realize this. See, for as much as I claimed to love the character, I never got as into any of the movies or TV shows as much as I did this cartoon, and seeing baby-faced teenage Peter dealing with school drama put a big highlight on why. I just don't care for stories about a younger Peter. He can still be fun as Spider-Man, but this was the version I also loved as Peter Parker. At this point, I don't know if there's any chance of that changing, and it's a bit sad considering it older Pete isn't something a lot of people seem interested in using these days. So for that, I will always love this series, warts and all.

This era of Marvel shows had a bit of a pacing problem, I find. The dialog is too fast and the plot points hit rapid fire levels at times. It could be due to being made for kids (and the worries about experimental aspects of shows like this at the time) or maybe the way I watched them was sped up, but it feels almost unwatchable for me sometimes. Other times it's soothing to just let an episode play, but even then they feel short, despite having a 20 minute run time.
I still love these shows to death, but this is an issue I've been having with all of them. Does anyone else have this problem, and if so, how did you watch the show? I really want to know if I've somehow been watching them at a higher speed.

    The characters are designed well.
I liked how they stretched out on all the classic things Spidey goes through
Losing his powers, Venom, black cat, spider-monster
And how every villain’s backstory was told, it made villains seem more believable for their actions.
    It does show its age.
I like how Animated Series feels more adult than Spectacular Spider-Man. Less jokes, more regret/what if. It makes the overall scenes more serious/dark. If I were to rate Animated Spideys it would go like.
