It is the scene after defeating Gortash that made me feel Samantha Beart to win best actress. It is so charged with emotion, both when she is a companion and when you are playing her as an origin character.
@@CuriouslyKay Yeah. Cried several times myself when playing Origin Karlach. Both when she alone at night and convince herself to go on. And visiting parents graves. And killing Gortash.
I was listening to this in the background while working. When Karlach said "I'm dying. I'm going to die", I involuntarily started tearing up. God I love this character so much. Such great writing. People looking over wondering why the old dude is shedding tears while doing spreadsheets.
So close to the finale... oh no, I don't want this playthrough to end, I enjoy it too much! Also, Samantha Béart went all the way with Karlach's monologue.
Tbh, Orin's backstory makes me SO sad, when you dig into it a bit. She was a child whose only desire was for SOMEONE in her life to love her, but she was just a target or a tool to all the people who raised her and molded her into this horrible murderer who only received the barest scraps of affection when she gave into the nightmares and impulses her blood forced onto her. And then in the end her only reward for that loyalty is to have her soul destroyed to create the Slayer If she had just been raised by someone like Jaheira instead, who has seen a Bhaalspawn resist their nature and become a hero...? Ugh, it gets me emotional Gortash and Ketheric also have sad backstories, but hers really hits me hard for some reason (I also think there's some really cool stuff to say about them as foils for the party members, who also have tragic backstories of abusive authority figures which could understandably drive them to the same dark place as the three Chosen, but over the course of the game the player can influence them to either give in to that or to resist it and escape the cycle of abuse for a better future)
Is there a way to prompt her to talk about her past? I wanna put in more time to see more of gortash and Orin in my next playthrough but don’t know how to get them to be introspective lol
@@CuriouslyKay There is a journal about her near the murder tribunal and also you can speak with dead the bodies behind her battle arena, including her mother's. Finding those first gives you new dialog options when you confront her And Gortash's backstory you mostly get from his family who run one of the shops in town
@@CuriouslyKay if you do a dark urge run, it'll be the perfect opportunity to dig into both Orin and Gortash as characters! Without giving too much away, both of them will become more important to your story on a personal level on a durge run
Samantha Beart did such an amazing job as the voice of Karlach, I was in complete awe when I got to this part and heard the raw emotion behind those lines. Truly remarkable
I agree about the Orin and Gortash (and their avatar forms) fights being a lot easier than Ketheric Thorm (and the Apostle of Myrkul). While the Apostle fight would probably have been easier at level 12, neither Orin nor Gortash had anything quite as devastating to the unprepared as the Apostle's bone chill aura and basic "melee" weapon attacks being wide AOEs on a narrow platform. I'm loving your videos!
Yeah on a gameplay level, orin and gortash were pretty easy. Ketherics fight was so much more cinematic too! It was so much fun watching the avatar of myrkul come out of nowhere, there should’ve been something like that for them
@@CuriouslyKayoh dang, he’s been away for so long! I’ve just entered the Shadowlands in my playthrough & I actively have him out w/ me! (He helps w/ passing Survival checks to find hidden items). maybe it was a glitch in your game?
Man I hated Gortash so much I killed him last. And to make it worse for him, I Otto’s Irrisistable Dance’d him and Hold Person’ed so an Enlarge’d Karlach could absolutely dumpster him. He couldn’t do a thing hahaha. It’s what he deserved.
Yeah gortash is so nasty. It was pretty funny to watch him freak out thinking we had some kind of deal though, like he forgot I trashed his steel watch 😭
@@CuriouslyKay I think he was just desperate at that point. His fellow Bane cultists did attack you on sight, but because you got past them and he's used to getting his way through his words, he tried using his silver tongue one last time.
If you sneak around Orin to her chambers before the fight and speak with her mother's corpse, you can find how many layers of messed up her storyline truly entails. This also gives you an interesting alternate ending to the final encounter with her, which I found the most satisfying. I find it absolutely amazing how many things you can learn about the antagonists of the game that are pretty well hidden and most people won't find, and yet can give you a whole new perspective on their stories.
I remember you saying you’re going to do a dark urge play through. Will you be uploading that? I don’t want this series to end. 😢. Also, I’d love to see Minthara in your party, I love her as a companion and her voice actor is amazing.
Idk if these are pre-recorded, but if they aren’t: before the final part of the game, make sure all companions have the correct clothing settings in terms of showing helmets or camp clothes. In my first playthrough, important cutscenes were covered by dorky helmets for some characters 😅
Halsin's romantic confession was meant to be triggered way earlier - like very early in Act III (typically on the first or second long rest after entering Act III), but i guess for your playthrough he was taken by Orin before he could do it at the proper time. i don't remember you asking him about past lovers back in Act II when you were getting to know him, so it's funny the game is registering it as if you did lol. but fun fact: Halsin is polyamorous. the player can date him and Astarion at the same time, or him and Shadowheart. none of the others are open to sharing though 😆 i kind of wish that the Orin capture wasn't scripted to happen so soon in Act III. my first playthrough was 80 total hours, and i swear i went about 20-25 of those hours without Gale around because he got taken, and i knew going after Orin was endgame content. when i rescued him, it felt like i hadn't seen him in ages and i hated missing out on any dialogue he would've had throughout all the quests 😭
Oh that makes more sense. Halsin seems cool but if anyone else had been taken I probably would’ve done Orin much sooner, I’m pretty sure nearly everyone else had some kind of quest still so I got pretty lucky with it being him
@@CuriouslyKay ugh yes, i hadn’t done Gale’s quest at the Sorcerous Sundries shop before he got taken so that ended up being the very last thing i did right before heading into the final fight and it felt sooo out of place. like _we have all the Netherstones and the Orphic Hammer and the Elder Brain is about to attack the city but WAIT! we need to go by a cool wizard shop to yoink a book first!_ 🙃

Instead of heading towards Orin and the captured team member, if you circle around the room clockwise you’ll find a crack in the wall that leads to the bedroom. There is something you can cast speak with dead on in there… afterwards try speaking to Orin. Do with that information as you will 😊
Watching your series and realizing imma have to do these fights again in Tactician fills me with unholy dread (lmao) you're super entertaining- I'm enjoying this series quite a bit
Great play through, you're about there! Wasn't sure if I'd like it at first because of editing out some gameplay. But you know what? I've tired of watching others streams because they're tooooo long. And i love your dialog and emotion. Love to see the difference in our playthroughs. Awesome job, keep it up!
Omg I second that! Would recommend a durge resist, since you can keep karlach/wyll but I’d watch either durge resist or evil durge series. You’ve been one of my fave streamers to watch play this game!
wish karlach's storyline had included more quests like shadowheart and astarions :( that moment always makes me tear up her story always gets to me lol
halsin's proposal really is... something. in my latest playthrough he did it even though i NEVER initiated any of the dialogue with him that gets to know him better. he said something along the lines of "you took care of me in the way a lover does, not a friend" and i was like??? SIR??? his "romance" barely exists at all, even for people who are into him otherwise, because it feels really forced how he does this despite the player barely interacting with him at all. he also reveals to have a bit of an odd perspective on "nature" when you talk to him more, implying it's essentially unnatural to be "beholden" to someone else (monogamy), apparently completely unaware of the fact several animal species mate for life. but i digress lol
Yeah as much as halsin seems cool, I just didn’t really use him a lot. Everyone else was so deep into their stories that he kinda fell into the background It did make him randomly confessing really funny though, like it’s right before the final mission and me and Lae’zel are practically married lol
that bug that orin turned into both hits pretty hard but also is ugly as hell. Karlach's story is so fucking sad, i was also on the brink of crying aswell when she spoke after gortash's death/slaughter (good riddence)
Karlach’s monologue always DESTROYS me. I’ve been wondering if she took inspiration from Ten’s goodbye from Doctor Who, because it definitely has a similar feeling. Also I’m still disappointed that we can’t cheese the murder tribunal by casting Feign Death on Valeria.
It's either almost or actually impossible to avoid Halsin thinking you're flirting with him. I got so annoyed by it I ended up installing a mod (playing on PC) that shows what dialogue flags different lines set, and it turns out there are situations where every single line you can say to him counts as flirting. The only thing you can do to avoid it is not to talk to him at all. Even if you do that, he's written assuming that you did flirt, so it barely matters if you managed to avoid it. Very annoying...
